The Scarlet Date
So, against all odds and reason, you did it.
You got a date with Wanda Maximoff.
The Scarlet Witch.
Of course, she might just be being nice but by God we're you going to enjoy it to your fullest extent.
Or, maybe she just wanted to show you what New York was really all about.
Either way, you didn't expect to meet her at her apartment on the Upper East side in full uniform.
Wanda: Are you ready to go, my dear?
You grinned like a fool at her nickname for you.
Y/N: Yep. Uh, where to?
Wanda smiled as she pulled on her crown.
Wanda: Just to Bates Bistro and Bar. There was a murder there last night that I could use your help in investigating.
Y/N: Cool. Sounds like the hell did you just say?
So, maybe not the best first date. But, hey. You get to spend some time with Wanda Maximoff.
That counts for something, right?
Right?
Monster:
Year 1
You walked with Wanda down the streets of New York with your hands in your pockets. You had Venom cover your lower face since you were technically on Avenger business. Or, Wanda business?
Superhero stuff.
Wanda: I know that something in this city is amiss.
Y/N: Isn't something always amiss?
Venom: Kinda why there'ssss about 50 different heroessss here.
Wanda chuckled a bit.
Wanda: Tell me, Y/N, and don't lie. Why did you ask me on a date? I am older than you and an adult.
You blushed a bit. Could you lie to a witch? This was a bad idea now that you were actually thinking with your head instead of your dick.
Y/N: Well....I find you attractive. And, I have a massive crush on you.
Both of those weren't lies.
Wanda: I see. Then allow me to tell you about myself in order for you to get those teenage thoughts out of your head.
Busted.
Wanda: I've had some problems in the past. My life has been a minefield of missteps and, I'll be the first to admit, some mental instability. My power, the ability I got at birth, allows me to break the laws of physics and scientific absolutes. Levitation, transformation, teleportation and such.
That was right. She was often seen as one of the most powerful beings among the Avengers. It was weird to think there was a time where she was their enemy at one point.
Wanda: I often hears the speels I cast be called "Chaos Magic". The truth is, they're far from chaotic. Their power and intensity are linked to the energy of earth and womanhood. Witchcraft. And I have ill-used this power before in the past. That's why so many fear me.
Venom: Make sssenssse.
Y/N: But, you're more than that. Clearly you're working to make up for your wrong doings.
Wanda looked at you amused.
Wanda: Do you believe in second chances?
You shrugged as you neared the bar.
Y/N: Why not? Sometimes, people make mistakes.
The same could be said for Felicia, who was still staying in the tower on Widow's orders.
Though, speaking of cats, you walked past two on your way to the crime scene. It took you a second to realize that one was dead, while the other pawed at it as if to try and wake it up.
It's eyes reflected to show you and Wanda walking away. And for a split second, you thought you saw someone else as well.
A monster with razor sharp fangs and claws as sharp as blades.
Wanda: I brought you along so that you may learn to perhaps, get in touch with your magical side. You will have to deal with it in the future, after all.
You approached the bar where you found reporters waiting for their chance to ask questions and policemen keeping people away. Wanda approached one, a short and chubby man, and got his attention.
Wanda: May I speak to Detective Erikson? He's the lead investigator on the restaurant murder last night, yes?
The man looked at her then at you. He seemed more annoyed than anything.
Cop: Yeah, he's the lead. You got a name, sweetheart?
Wanda: Yes I do, "buttercup". Wanda Maximoff. Although, you may know me better by another name.
-------------
The crime scene was something out of a TV show. Well, one of those late night ones Widow would watch. The table where the murder took place was practically destroyed with a body slumped against the wall. Blood was splattered behind it.
The victim's skin was torn away by the attacker. You could actually see some bone sticking out if you looked hard enough.
Venom: Yummy.
Detective: So here we are at the crime scene, Maximoff, as you requested. Bagged and dusted. Don't know what all else to tell you.
His eyes then landed on you.
Detective: Should he be here? This isn't really a place for a kid.
Wanda just waved off his concerns while you kneeled down to get a better look at the body. It was weird, but you could see more than you think you should. It was like when you met Danny for the first time. You could see a strange glow coming from the victim's body.
But what you couldn't understand, was the fact that this Detective Erikson had a similar aura around him. Wanda had one too, a massive one. Made sense. She was extremely powerful after all. But the Detective didn't have power. At least, that you could detect.
Detective: We got the killer back at the precinct. He claims he doesn't have any recollection on what happened or of his actions, which is the first step to an instant plea, so I don't blame him.
Venom: Interesssting.
Y/N: What is?
Venom: I know humansss have momentsss of uncontrollable anger. Jussst like you did not too long ago.
Y/N: Yeah, and?
Venom: There'sss no way sssomeone could do sssomething like thisss and not remember.
You had to admit that he did have a point. Maybe this is why Wanda wanted to get involved? This did seem like a magical situation.
Detective: Franky, open and shut like this, I'd prefer you use your hocus-pocus to make him explain why he did it. He says he doesn't know what came over him.
Venom: Possssessssion?
Y/N: Sounds like it.
Wanda: He was a bus boy here?
Detective: Yeah. Hector Gomez. Legalized American as of a year ago. Peeling radishes one minutes and then peeling faces the next. Two dead before the staff wrestled him to the ground.
Wanda: This wasn't the first crime like this recently, right? Temporary madness, fearsome assault?
Detective: You look into your magic ball to see that?
Wanda rolled her eyes.
Wanda: Yes. While a gypsy violinist played in the background. Or perhaps I read the newspaper.
You smirked at her sarcasm before you stood back up and walked over to the two.
Y/N: I think I read something about this too. At least seven attacks in the last month.
You weren't going to show it, but you and Venom were actually going to dive fully into this investigation thing. It seemed fun.
Wanda: And both victims were rich?
The detective nodded.
Y/N: A banker dropping off his car before the valet attacked. A woman sitting in her apartment before the maid went mad. But their money was untouched. This wasn't about that, was it?
Wanda shook her head.
Detective: You think there's a magical link in this? Makes sense.
Wanda turned to you.
Wanda: Pay close attention, Dear Monster. All of this is quite obvious if you just look for the signs.
Y/N: The signs?
Wanda nodded as the detective watched her look around.
Wanda: There was something else in those papers. But it's something you have to walk around and see for yourself first hand. Every cat in lower Manhattan has been slowly dying off in a mysterious way. Both strays and pets.
Right. You did read about that. Plus, you did see one on the way here. The one with that weird reflection in its eye. Where these two things connected?
Detective: Yeah, creepy as hell too. They say it's some kind of virus. That magic, too? Cats and witches?
Wanda: Yes and no. Like you say, a virus, of sorts.
Here's a little history lesson, for you. One that you had learned in school briefly and what Wanda told the detective.
In 1730s Paris, there occurred what could only be called a cat massacre. Starving apprentices came to view cats, the pets of their masters, as a symbol of their own misfortune. These boys then systematically slaughtered any cat that they could find. Many hundreds, in fact. Some historians and theorist believed this to be the first ember of the fire that would ignite to become the France Revolution many decades later.
Wanda: However, a witch like myself can see it was something beyond that. The cats were a sacrifice. The idea of their slaughter no doubt put into the minds of those boys by some poor starving witch at the time.
Y/N: A sacrifice?
Wanda: A taigheirm, as the ancient Scotts would call it. The killing of cats in order to control hell, and thereby summoning a Sonneillon.
Sounds important. And horrifying.
Wanda: It's the magical embodiment of envy, hate, the need to punish.
Y/N: And you think one was summoned here?
That would explain the dying cats and everything else in between. And that strange aura? It was still around the detective. You wondered if Wanda saw it too.
Wanda: This is a part of the city where too frequently nowadays the less fortunate are being driven out by the wealthier and more fortunate. Enough so, at least, that the same hateful hex can take place.
You rubbed your chin, inadvertently petting Venom, and gave it some thought. Was that the aura? The envy and hate of this demon? If so, why was it in the detective?
Y/N: So the killers may be innocent after. It's just the Sonneillon's energy spreading from one to the next.
Wanda smiled in approval. Good to know you were following along.
Detective: Wait, this isn't my field of expertise. So, let me see if I got this straight. A magical "hate-virus" has been planted in this part of the city?
Wanda: Exactly. And if unabated, like any virus, it will spread even further.
That would be bad news. Very bad news. If every hateful person suddenly got the motivation they needed to take that step, then it would end in a blood bath.
Detective: But who did it?
Wanda: That is a mystery that would need solving.
Detective: Well, do you know who else has been infected? Who the next killer is going to be?
Wanda looked at you to see if you knew. You nodded and looked at the detective. That aura, it was what remained on the victim after Hector attack him. It was part of the Sonneillon. And it was now on the detective.
Y/N: It's you, Detective Erikson.
The detective looked at you with wide eyes then down at himself.
Detective: What? B-But...I don't feel any h-hate. No envy.
Wanda: You were born poor and you worked your way to the top all the way from the bottom. And although you'd never admit it, you do think "adversely" of those born with a silver spoon.
You didn't blame him. You had nothing until you joined the Program. You were alone before you had Felicia. You were born as unfortunate as they came. You understood the hate and envy he might have felt.
Detective: No, I.....wait. How do you know all of this about me? We only just met!
Wanda lifted her hand, a strange red energy dancing around it much like your flames.
Wanda: Did you already forget, Detective? I'm the Scarlet Witch.
She pointed her arm out towards the detective which lifted him off the floor. You were a bit worried, but you also figured Wanda had a reason for all of this. You had to trust her.
Detective: What are you doing?!
Wanda: Saving your life. I'm sorry, but this will hurt. Exorcisms always do.
She created more magic with her other hand and aimed it at the detective. You watched as the room grew darker and red filled your eyes as it covered the detective's body. Slowly, a green energy began to emerge from it. The same as the aura you had seen.
It wasn't long before a creature was pulled from the detective's body. A hellish bone like creature with horns that was much larger than you and Wanda. It's burnt hands slowly turned to claws larger than your forearm and with teeth sharper than any knife you had seen.
The creature crawled away from the detective and set it sights in you and Wanda. Now the room was a myriad of reds and greens as it growled and paced back and forth to intimate you.
You didn't know any magic, but you did have your own powers to fight back. Wanda, however, was already think of her next spell. Her next attack.
The creature lunged at you and Wanda but you both moved to avoid it. You zapped to the other end of the restaurant before you zapped behind the creature. You stabbed your claws into it's back which caused it to scream out.
Wanda: Monster, pop quiz.
Now?!
Wanda: What spell should I use? A Nomad spell, a Celtic spell, or an Indian spell?
You thought about it. She did say it was old Scottish magic. That would be...
Y/N: A Celtic spell!
Wanda smirked.
Wanda: Good boy.
She focused her power on the demon and began her chant.
Wanda: Here, creature! I evoke the power of exalted Morgan and I order you to....
She suddenly stopped and the creature moved to attack her. You zapped to her and grabbed her before you zapped out of it's attack range.
Y/N: Focus, Wanda!
Wanda snapped out of whatever trance she was in and turned back to the demon. She finished the chant, and the creature let out a horrible scream as it began to fade away.
You watched as the restaurant returned to normal and the magic stopped. The aura was now gone, and no one was hurt.
Detective: Ow. Yeah, that definitely hurts.
Oh. Well, one person was hurt.
-----------
You ended up back at Wanda's apartment. Honestly, seems more like a castle penthouse than anything, if you were being completely honest.
Venom: That wasss the worsssst date ever.
Y/N: Does that count, even? I mean, if so, that was my first date and I'm not too keen on another.
Wanda laughed to herself as she took a sip of her tea. Venom had returned to your arm after eating the cookies while you sat there with a cup of tea of your own. Not quite a tea mind of person, but you weren't going to turn down the Scarlet Witch's tea.
Wanda: I must thank you, my dear Y/N, for coming with me on this little adventure.
Y/N: Yeah, but my question is, why? Why did you bring me along? Danny actually has mystical abilities so wouldn't he have been better suited for this?
Wanda smirked as she shook your head.
Wanda: You must not realize it. Tell me, Y/N, what did you see at the restaurant?
What did you see?
Y/N: A strange aura. I followed it to the detective. It's how I knew he was infected.
Wanda nodded.
Wanda: And do you know why you could see that aura?
You shook your head. You figured it was because you were powerful, like Danny had said.
Wanda: It's because you have an amplitude for magic. You have an untouched potential to cast it.
Venom: And at thisss rate, he hasss ssssomething elssssse that will go untouched. I mean, did ssshe really have to wear that bloussse?
Wanda: You have no guidance on using magic. And so, I would like to help you.
Y/N: You want to teach me magic?
Wanda: In a way. I have books that taught me spells and how to control my magic. I can lend them to you. However, there is a price.
Venom: Hisss body?!
Wanda: I need your help.
You raised a brow. Didn't you just help her?
Wanda: Back at the restaurant, during my chant, I felt something. As if something inside of me had changed. I suppose the best way to describe it would be that I'm wearing two jackets.
Like another layer was there. But, what could that be? And how were you supposed to help?
Y/N: Alright. What do you need me to do?
Wanda: I need you to pull it off of me.
Venom: Sssscore!
-------------
You sat across from Wanda on the floor of her living room. Or, what was suppose to be a living room. Castle apartment, and whatnot.
Wanda had her eyes closed as you concentrated in what the book had said. Wanda had given you a bit of guidance in how to conjure your magic but you were still uneasy on the whole idea.
You took a deep breath and turned your hands over. Focus. That was the key word.
You focused the energy to your hand, like you did with your flames or your frost or even the electricity, and followed what the book had said.
You turned your hands back over and did the gestures correctly, but you hesitated on the last one. You let out a breath and lowered your head.
Y/N: I can't do this.
Wanda opened her eyes and looked at you. You had never done magic before. Why did she think you could get this on your first try?
Wanda: My dear Y/N?
You looked up.
Wanda: Sometimes, you need the right motivation. Either it be saving a life, protecting yourself, or something else.
You raised a brow.
Wanda: If you do this, I will reward you~
And motivated you were. You nodded and Wanda closed her eyes again. You took a deep breath and closed your eyes to try the spell again.
You turned your hands over, focus, turned them back over, focus, and did the gestures. You opened your eyes and found a faint F/C energy surrounding your hands. So, it was working, at least.
Alright, motivation. Let's go.
You reached your hand out towards Wanda, like she did with the detective, and used your other to start pulling off the second layer. It was like working with gloves, in a way. And the way the magic made you feel, it was hard to describe.
It was like wearing a blanket on a rainy day. Like listening to the sounds of the forest as you tried to sleep. It was calming.
You felt something and grabbed onto it. This must be the second layer. You focused and began to pull on it, like you were tearing tape off of a box.
Slowly, carefully, you peeled the second layer off of Wanda as she opened her eyes.
Wanda: That's it. Focus, Y/N.
You struggled near the end, but as you kept pulling, something happened. Red and F/C began to mix and things began to shake. Not a good sign, you guessed.
The candles in the room also began to flicker.
Wanda: What is this?
You had no idea. But you kept pulling. Finally, you got it out.
But then a large blast of magical energy launched both you and Wanda to opposite sides of the room and blew out the candles.
You hit the stone wall and groaned as you hit the floor.
Y/N: Ah. I thought magic was fun.
Wanda shook her head as she pushed herself herself up. You did the same and leaned on the wall as your bone healed themselves.
In the middle of the room was smoke. Magic smoke. Fancy.
Venom: Two demonsss in one day? Rough.
The smoke began to clear, but you didn't find a demon. No. This was something else.
It was a girl.
A naked girl.
Venom: Oh. SSSSSSSCORE!
Y/N: Wanda...
Wanda was already walking towards the girl who was laying there, unconscious. You also started your way towards her, but stopped when you saw her face.
This was.....weird.
Magic was weird.
Y/N: Wanda?
You looked at the girl more closely.
Y/N: Why does she look like you?
Wanda looked at the young girl as she laid there.
There were two Wandas.
Venom: DOUBLE SSSSCORE!
