Black Cat Arc #2
Y/N: Nope. No way.
You paced back and forth ontop of the building as Cat laid on one of the vents. While she was in her costume, which was showing a bit more cleavage than usual, you were wearing a black goodie with your bandanna still around your neck.
Cat: Oh, come on. Live a little, Frankie.
You rolled your eyes at the nickname she gave you. Frankenstein's Monster. Shorten to Frankie.
Y/N: See, you always say that. And I always listen. And every time, we end up with people who want to kill us.
Cat: Y/N.
You looked at her to see that she was giving you kitten eyes.
Cat: Please? For me?
You just looked at her.
Y/N: Nope. Hard pass.
Cat sighed and sat up so that she was sitting cross legged.
Cat: I can't do this job without you.
Y/N: Then you'll just have to not do it.
Cat pouted. Ever since last night, you had been oddly rejective towards her. Like you wanted to do something else. Anything else. It kinda hurt, honestly.
Cat: I need you for this because I trust you. Because you can handle yourself. And because you always want to help people. That's like your whole thing! You're a super softie.
You sighed and looked at her.
Y/N: I don't like this. Any of this. Who even gave you this job?
Cat: A young couple who are in love and hate Hammerhead.
You stopped pacing at the name. You then looked at her. You both looked at each other in silence. Her with a smirk, and you with a scowl.
You still haven't told her about the offer. And she still hasn't talked to you about how she felt.
Y/N: F-Fine. God, this is going to be so embarrassing.
Cat smiled as she tossed you the bagged suit that you would be wearing.
Cat: Well, hurry up and change. Our wedding is going to start pretty soon.
You just groaned as you looked at the tux.
Monster:
Year 1
Disclaimer just so you can understand the situation you found yourself in. This was a fact you learned quite early on. The Maggia are weird. Not just the weird death rays and mob boss kind of weird either. More like the Marriage of the Martyrs kind of weird.
What's that?
That's the reason you were walking down the isle with Felicia towards the alter. She wore her white wedding dress, and you wore your black tux. Crime families on both sides. Guns, knives, bombs, and so much more.
You see, when two families have an on going beef, bad blood boarding on war,the martyrs are married. Two youths, a prince and princess, are brought together on this sacred tradition.
You and Felicia reached the alter where the ceremony started. The two are then married by law and oath. They're reminded of their duty to their family. Of tradition. Of what's expected of them.
The large door is opened by the priest while everyone waits.
Then the newly weds fight to the death to settle their family's differences.
Yeah, kinda weird.
You tore off the veil that hid your face as did Felicia.
Felicia: Never thought my wedding would go like that.
Y/N: I hate tuxedos.
Cat smirked as she took off the dress to reveal her costume underneath.
Cat: I told you it would go off without a hitch. Other than, you know, us getting hitched.
Y/N: One hitch. The only way out of here is through two Maggia families. One of which Hammerhead is apart of.
Cat smirked as she looked at the ground.
Cat: Relax, Frankie. Don't I always have a plan?
Y/N: I may never like them, but you do always have a plan.
Cat pointed at the ground and you got the memo. You bent down and began to lift the heavy stone from the floor with your strength. Cat watched for a moment as your muscle flexed under the pressure.
Cat: Careful, careful...
Y/N: I know!
You let out one last struggle and dropped the stone plate to the ground. You let out a sigh and hunched over.
Cat: Jeez, mister. How'd you get that strong?
Y/N: I...have...no...idea...Jesus.
Cat kneeled down and looked into the dark hole.
Cat: Don't sell yourself short. The Maggia use a Dreadnought to open this thing up. Plus, I liked the show~
She winked at you as you looked down the hole.
Y/N: So, what's down there?
Cat: The secret Maggia catacombs.
Y/N: Huh. Cool.
You both stood up and looked at each other.
Y/N: Ladies first.
Cat placed a hand on her chest.
Cat: Such a gentleman.
She then plunged into darkness.
Let's recap this series of events. You and Felicia/Cat were now kinda married, but not really, and you were now raiding a crime family's tomb.
All this was for a good cause, though.
As you both walked through the dark hall, you held a flaming hand up to provide some light. Cat had a flashlight of her own as well.
You could alsmot feel the note burning a hole in your pocket. And Felicia could feel her heart beat start to calm down.
Felicia: So, I guess we're married now, huh?
Y/N: Not really. Not by law, at least. It's not our names on that paper.
Felicia: O-Oh. Yeah.
You heard the odd sadness in her voice. Before you could ask about it, she stepped on a stone which sunk into the floor. Your senses went off, and you quickly grabbed her and lifted her up to avoid the spikes that suddenly stabbed through the floor.
Cat: Ah! Ah. Nice save.
Y/N: Don't mention it.
You and Cat looked at each other before you set her down and made some space between the two of you.
Y/N: We should keep going.
Cat: Yeah.
She shined her light on the spikes and sighed.
Cat: So we have traps. Scary.
Y/N: But also cool.
Cat: Right? How about you lead the way and suss them out?
Y/N: Right. Just, stay behind me.
Cat: Always.
You reignited your hand and walked forward.
-------------
Y/N: So, tell me the story about why we're doing this again.
Cat: Do you really need to hear this again?
Y/N: Humor me.
Cat: Alright.
You and Cat crawled through a narrow space with spikes all around.
Cat: It's all about the money, Frankie. The Maggia have accounts with Pluto.
Y/N: Pluto?
Cat: Criminal banking organization. So far underground they're subterranean scary.
Y/N: That's always fun.
Cat: Anyways, the only way we can get to those accounts is by getting a special code that's locked away innthe minds of the head of the family, and of course in this dark and scary tomb.
You both emerged to the front of a stone wall which had a series of number inscribed in it.
Cat: Great. Now all I need to do is take a picture of this and send it to the client.
You slowly nodded before you felt your senses start to act up. You looked around confused.
Y/N: Uh, and about that "guardian" you mention?
Cat: Old wives tale.
You turned around and found a large figure standing there.
Y/N: Huh. Looks like the old wife was right.
------------
Hammerhead stood beside his wife and son as he waited patiently for the results of the battle. He was getting impatient.
His phone then went off and he sighed as he pulled it out. He looked at the screen, and saw that $3,000,000 was taken out of his account.
His anger erupted as he looked at the number again.
Suddenly, the doors opened as well. Everyone looked up to see who the victor was, but they were surpised to find you and Felicia standing there instead.
Y/N: Sorry. I think I broke your robot.
Felicia smirked as she pulled out the smoke bombs she had crafted for the job. She thew them into the crowd. Chaos. Oh, sweet chaos.
You picked up Felicia and ignited your feet as you blasted off towards the stain glass windows. You broke through them and landed outside the church.
How funny that all it took to turn a bunch of mobsters into scared kids, was just a little smoke.
Y/N: Okay, time to go!
Cat: Than blast off with me, Frankie!
You ignited your feet and blasted off into the night sky. Another job completed.
-------------
Nickolas: My mother was a martyr. Twice. Victories both times, obviously.
You and Felicia leaned against the railing of the parking garage as you listened to the story of your clients. Two young lovers who were supposed to be martyrs. Well, before you and Felicia took their spots.
Nickolas: Growing up, they told us that to be a martyr, to kill for the family, was the fast track for rank. For a position in the Maggia.
Victoria: My father was a martyr, three times. For him, it was an honor. A way to show your commitment, to repay the family for everything they've given you.
Victoria held Nickolas' hand and smiled.
Victoria: Because you were raised with it, you believed it. Until you're called to wed. And you realize...
Nickolas: You realize you're being told to kill someone you've known your whole life.
Felicia cooed as she fanned over their story.
Felicia: And you both fell in love! Two member of fueding families. Oh, that's so romantic.
Y/N: Hm. Sure.
The two gave their thanks once more before they got into the car and drove off. You sighed as you turned to face the city and Felicia continued to gush over the young couple.
Felicia: That's so cute!
Y/N: We almost died.
Felicia: But it was for love!
Y/N: We almost died.
Felicia: Stop being such a sour puss.
Y/N: We almost....why do I have to explain this?
Felicia looked at you and noticed that you were a bit annoyed. You groaned as you flexed your hand. You wanted to seriously talk to her about the note. The offer. But, you had no idea how to even bring it up.
Felicia: Hey.
She poked your cheek which made you turn your head to look at her.
Felicia: What's wrong? You've been out of it lately.
You looked at her before your reached into your pocket and showed her the note.
Y/N: I ran into Spider-Man. He said...he said that he wants to recruit me for a Program for young heroes.
Felicia looked at the note before she looked at you.
Felicia: What...
Y/N: I was thinking about doing it.
Felicia felt her stomach turn. If you did, you would be leaving. She would be...alone.
Felicia: W-Why?
You took the note back and placed it into your pocket.
Y/N: Because it's the right thing to do. I have these powers and I can help people like what we just did. We did a good thing, Felicia.
Felicia: I-I know. But this is kind of a big decision and...
Y/N: And I've been thinking about it for a long time. I....I can't keep doing this.
Felicia looked at you.
Felicia: Doing what?
Y/N: This. All the stealing and crime and hiding. This is my chance to go and do good. Actual good.
Felicia slowly lowered her head. She couldn't lose you too. You were all she had left. Her only partner. Her only friend. Her only, family.
Y/N: I'm going to call tomorrow.
Felicia suddenly grabbed your arm which made you look at her. Your eyes went wide when you saw the tears forming in her eyes.
Felicia: You can't!
Y/N: Wha...
Felicia: Please! Please....don't leave me.
She began to sob as she clang onto you.
Y/N: Felicia...
She suddenly reached up, and she kissed you. Your eyes went wide at the sudden action but she held you by your jacket. You slowly placed your hands on her shoulders and gently pushed her off.
She looked at you with desperate eyes. She then slowly lowered her head.
Felicia: I'm..I'm sorry. Just...I can't lose you. I love you. Please stay.
You simply stood there as she hugged you. You slowly hugged her back and gently brushed your hair. You then turned to look at the city lights. They seemed much dimmer today.
Y/N: Felicia....I...
You didn't know what to say. But you finally got your answer.
You were holding her down.
Holding her back.
Y/N: One last job.
Felicia flinched at your words. She slowly looked up at you.
Y/N: We'll do one last job, then we'll talk about this. One for the books. A big one. Then, we'll go from there.
Felicia's eyes shifted and Cat let out a shaky breath.
Cat: Talk about emotional buildup. I...I appreciate it. You doing this.
Y/N: I know you do. You both mean a lot to me and I don't want to leave you behind. But...
Cat: I know. I get it. So does Felicia. Just....let's do this last job.
You slowly nodded.
Y/N: Yeah. And I think I know exactly which one to do.
Cat looked at you in surpise before she smiled.
Cat: Yeah. Me to.
Hammer Industries. The big one that you always talked about. Talk about going out with a bang.
Y/N: Alright.
Cat: Alright.
How odd, that you were both smiling...when your hearts hurt this much.
