A Modern Family

The Monstsr was welcomed into the Program where he met the Spider, the Spaceman, the Inventor, and the Inhuman. He finally found a place to call home.

Along the way, he met the warrior monk who fought alongside him against two kings of the underground. And with that, the Monster gained another ally. Another friend.

But, he has yet to meet even half of those who would become his family. However, we're getting ahead of ourselves.

First, he had to meet the robot.

Monster:
Year 1

You leaped over the spinning blades and ducked under a firing laser. You then created a ball of fire and threw it at the machine which immediately shut down before it could be destroyed.

You then popped out your claws and sliced through the saw blade that was shot out at you. You smiled and retracted your claws. You stood there proud, before you froze the swinging metal arm that was about to attack you from behind.

Y/N: Heh. Nice.

You smiled, before you were shot by something that didn't trip your senses. You dropped to the ground, unable to move. You slowly turned your head and found Widow standing over you with her hands on her hips.

Y/N: Wyit dkd yao di?

*what did you do?

Widow: Tranquilizer dart. You'll be good in a few seconds.

You waited and found it leaving your system. You slowly pushed yourself up and groaned.

Y/N: Why? Why would you do that?

Widow: To see if you would catch it. You didn't.

Y/N: No shit.

You pulled the dart out of your arm and wondered why you didn't sense it. Maybe you could ask Miles about it later. You tossed it aside as the training simulation powered down. Widow crossed her arms as you walked over to your discarded shirt to pull it on.

Widow: So, how long have you been in here?

Y/N: I dunno. Two hours?

Widow: Not bad, kid.

You smiled at the compliment. Widow signaled for you to follow which you did. No one was going to be stopping by today since there wasn't an urgent mission or any training to do. That meant it was just you and Widow since you were the only ones who lived here.

Speaking of which, it was weird that it was just the two of you. It never even felt like she was here. She would either be in the living room, or God knows where. You were actually sacred that she might be watching you while you slept.

She seemed like that kind of person.

Widow: So I got some news, kid.

Y/N: *gasp. You're pregnant. Who's the father?

Widow smacked your chest which just made you smirk.

Widow: No. I'm not having a kid. I can barely keep you five alive. I could never handle a baby.

You just shrugged.

Y/N: Well, if no one knocked you up...

Widow: Actually, let's talk about that for a moment. You grew up on the streets, right? No real adult supervision?

You nodded.

Widow: So, and you don't have to answer, but, what did you get into? Did you do any drugs or drink or slept around with anyone?

You gave it some thought. Have you? Well, no. You never touched any drug or any alcohol. You also never slept with anyone either. But, you also weren't foreign to the subjects. You did work for a kingpin for a bit.

Y/N: No. Nothing like that. Why?

Widow: I just...I didn't know if you had done something that could affect your head. Or, uh, mental health.

You looked at her confused but shrugged it off.

Widow: Well, as long as you're fine. Anyway, I won't be here for a few weeks.

Y/N: Oh. So I'll be on my own?

Widow shook her head.

Widow: No. You'll be staying with another Avenger at his home. We'll head there tomorrow.

You raised a brow. Another Avenger? Who? Maybe it was Tony Stark. Or Cap.

Widow: Pack a bag. And, I'm guessing you have manners? You do pretty well here.

Y/N: Of course I have manners. I know my forks.

Widow: Your forks?

Y/N: Yeah. Like, the big one. And the other big one. And the little one. And the....scoop one.

Widow: The scoop one?

Y/N: Yeah. The one that you use for, like, soup and stuff.

Widow looked at you to see if you were joking. Oh my God, you were serious.

Widow: Do you mean...a spoon?

Y/N: The fuck is a spoon?
----------
You stepped out of Widow's car, which you didn't even know she had, with your backpack in your hand. Widow got out and walked around as you looked at the house.

616 Hickory Branch Lane. You were in Arlington County Virginia. About 15 miles from Washington DC.

This was actually the first time you have ever be somewhere outside of New York.

Widow: Well, this is the place. Tell me, kid. You know what a synthezoid is?

You shook your head.

Widow: Well, this is gonna be fun. Let's go.

You slowly nodded and followed her to the front door. She knocked and you both waited.

???: Coming.

The door suddenly opened, which surpised you, and you looked at the man standing there.

Was he a man?

Widow: Vision. Long time no see.

Vision: Hello again, Natasha. It is nice to see you.

Y/N: What the hell? What the hell? What the hell~?

You looked at Widow.

Y/N: Please explain what this is.

Widow: Y/N, this is Vision. He is an Avenger and he was generous enough to allow you to stay here while I'm off on my mission.

You looked back at the man who was looking at you.

Vision: Y/N, no alias. You were recently recruited to the Avengers Program. You were also responsible for the raid against criminals Hammerhead and Tombstone. It is a pleasure to meet you.

You looked at him for a moment before you shook his hand.

Y/N: Yeah. You too. Uh, thank you for letting me stay here.

Vision: Of course. Please, come inside.

You nodded and took a deep breath before you stepped inside the house. And you were very surpised to see that it was a normal house. With normal furniture and stuff.

Y/N: The house is....nice.

Did you say that right? Oh God. Were they going to kill you while you slept? Did they sleep? These questions were not helping you calm down.

Vision: Family. Our guest is here.

There's more? How many more? Oh God oh God oh God.

Suddenly, three more people phased through the roof and landed in the living room. While Widow was unfazed, you were internally freaking out. This was all new to you.

Vision: Please, meet my wife, Virginia. My daughter, Vivian. And my son, Vin.

Virginia: Pleasure to meet you.

Vin: Pleasure to meet you.

Your eyes fell on the last member of the family who was staring at you. While the other three synthezoids were smiling, the last one was just observing you. Vision made a noise that seemed to mock a clearing of the throat which snapped her out of her observation.

Viv: Pleasure to meet you.

You looked at Widow who just smiled. Did she not find any of this weird? You turned back to the family and forced a smile.

Y/N: N-Nice to meet you all. Uh, thank you for...taking me in.

You found yourself squeezing your backpack strap tighter. You were just...nervous. Scared? Why did you feel like this? They seemed nice.

Vision: Allow me to give you a brief tour.

So he did. He showed you some stuff he had gathered from his many years as an Avenger. Things that actually fascinated you. A stringless Steinway imported from Wakanda, a gift from Black Panter. One of the famed flying water vases of Zenn-La, a gift from the Silver Surfer. A lighter used to read a map on the night before D-Day, a gift from Captain America. And a clipped everbloom plucked from the side of Mt. Wudagore, a gift from the Scarlet Witch.

You didn't know what any of this stuff was but it was cool.

It also kinda helped you calm down a bit.

But, Vision did tell you and Widow about the Everbloom. Apparently it's pedals could open the gate of time itself. However, what you really noticed was that his wife was quiet. Very quiet.

Eventually, time came for Widow to leave.

Widow: It was nice to see you again. And it was nice to finally meet the wife.

Virginia: The pleasure is all mine.

Vision: Do feel free to stop by again, Natasha. Until you do, we will take great care of Y/N.

Widow: I know you will. Well, I'm off. Y/N, be respectful.

Y/N: Yep. Will do, buckaroo.

Widow looked at you unamused. You just did fingerguns at her to which she rolled her eyes.

Widow: Be good. Bye now.

Widow left the house and got in her car. That left you alone with the Visions. Right. This was happening. You can do this.

Vision: Y/N, do you require food at this moment?

Y/N: N-No, sir. I'm all good.

You stood there nervously as the four stared at you. This was, weird.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Vision: Very well. Vin and Vivian will show you where you will be staying. If you need anything, feel free to let us know.

You gave a thumbs up and the two younger synthezoids walked towards you.

Viv: Follow us.

You nodded and did so. Maybe this won't be so bad. Hopefully.

While you followed Viv and Vin upstairs, Virginia turned to Vision.

Virginia: Natasha and Y/N seem kind.

Vision: Nice. It is proper to say they seem nice.

Virginia: I disagree. "Kind" carries a much more positive attribution than "nice". "Nice" is in fact often used ironically. And I am not being ironic.

Vision: You misunstand. It is the ironic aspect of "nice" that gives the statement its meaning. As "kind" is unironic, to seem "kind" is to imply the potential of not being kind, or of being cruel. And, Y/N does not seem to be capable of being cruel.

Virginia looked at the stairs where you had dissapered.

Virginia: I suppose your are correct. He seems, nice.
----------
Vin: This is the guest room where you will stay. Me and Vivian are across the hall.

Viv: We are here.

Vin: It is an expression.

Viv: Very well.

You watched the two twins for a moment before you tossed your backpack onto the bed.

Y/N: Uh, thanks. Or, uh, thank you.

Did you have to be proper with them? Maybe you shouldn't tell them about this spoon thing Widow told you about.

Vin: I must go retrieve something from our room. I shall return shortly.

Vin phased through the door, leaving you and Viv alone. This was kinda awkward.

Viv: Are you pleased with our home?

Y/N: Uh, yeah. Yeah it's, really nice. Really....homey.

Viv: I see. What would you like to do?

What did you want to do? What was there to do? What could they do? Honestly, you didn't want them to feel like they needed to entertain you.

Y/N: Whatever I guess. What are the options?

Viv: We can play a board game. We can watch a movie. We can engage in kissing. We can talk about current day topics. We can....

You felt your face heat up. Did she, say what you thought she said?

Y/N: I'm sorry. What was that last one?

Viv: Talking about current day topics? Very well. What are your opinions on...

Y/N: N-no. The one before that one.

Viv: Engage in kissing? Is that what you wish to do?

Y/N: N-No! Uh, no, thank you. Um....no.

Viv: Would that make you uncomfortable?

Yes.

Y/N: It's just, we don't really know each other. And I'll be staying here for a while and I don't want to make things, awkward.

Viv: I understand. Then why don't we play a board game? We have Candy Land.

You shrugged.

Y/N: Sure. I have no idea what the hell that is, but it sounds fun. Who doesn't like candy?
----------
Turns out, playing a boardgames against synthezoids was a bad idea. They were literal walking computers who destoryed you easily before you could even get six spots in. It also didn't help that you had no idea what this game was.

Vin: I win.

Viv: I demand a rematch.

Vin: Do not be a sore loser, sister.

Viv: I am incapable of being sore. I suggest we get Y/N's council.

Vin: I agree.

The two looked at you.

Vin: Shall we play again?

You nervously shifted.

Y/N: Uh, sure?

Viv: Was that a question?

Y/N: No?

Vin: You are stating this as a question.

You looked at them and slowly smiled a bit.

Y/N: What are you talking about.

Viv: That was a question but posed as a statement.

Y/N: No it wasn't?

Vin: How are you doing this? I do not understand.

You just laughed a bit.

Y/N: It's just the way you say it. Say a question but make it a statement. Say a statement, but say it like a question. It's simple. Like using a spoon.

Viv: What does a spoon have to do with this topic?

Y/N: Nothing. Just, uh, making it clear that I know what a spoon is. And that I've always known what a spoon was.

You nervously looked around before you lowered your head.

Vin: That is good to know.

You smiled a bit. Maybe things won't be so bad here after all.

Oh how wrong you were.
