The Long Night Arc #1
Y/N Romanoff is the son of one Elise Storm and an unknown man. After his birth, he was taken away and experimented on by a group simply known as the Ten Rings. He managed to escape with the help of the Creator before his death at the hands of AIM and Taskmaster.
He found a home with a girl named Felicia/Cat Hardy and began his career as a thief before he was recruited into The Program, a team of young heroes in the making.
Through his various adventures, Y/N created unbreakable bonds with his teammates and his mentor, Natasha Romanoff. Along the way, he was bonded to a symbiote known as Venom and learned of his true heritage as a Godslayer, a weapon created to face even the gods themselves, and met his mother's old teammates, Moon Knight and Damon Hellstrom.
However, a boy named Cletus Kasady, who was bonded with the symbiote Carnage, joined forces with Taskmaster and captured Y/N. While he was able to escape and stop Cletus's plans to cover the world in Carnage, Y/N lost Venom in the process.
In a state of depression, Y/N decided to leave the Program to find his father after Moon Knight gave him a clue of his whereabouts. Joined by Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch, Y/N began his journey to a small town simply known as Burns, Alaska to find none other than Victor Creed. The Sabertooth.
Y/N is.......MONSTER
-----------------
Heroes: Monster, Scarlet Witch
Monster:
Strikers
You leaned against the truck and looked out at the town. It looked exactly like the postcard your dad sent Moony. You reached into your pocket and pulled it out once more.
You felt a shiver go down your spine. There was something that didn't sit right with the sailor's story. Well, a few things, but he kept saying fall and winter. And, there was snow on the ground.
None of this made sense. Summer vacation had started three weeks ago.
Wanda: So, what are you going to do? Investigate the deaths?
You gave a shrug.
Y/N: I kinda already am. I looked into that boat. Turns out, Langrock wasn't the name of the boat. It's a company. Apparently they're the richest family here. They own the fishing boats, the canary, and a few lumber yards. And they're very generous on their donations.
Wanda: But they're sumgling drugs?
Y/N: Maybe. We don't know for sure. Definitely worth checking out, though.
Wanda nodded. Suddenly, she held up a book. You looked at her confused.
Y/N: What's that?
Wanda: The dock master's log. The crew had one person missing. A man named Steven Washburn. He didn't show up to work.
She handed you the book and you raised a brow. You were curious, but you also didn't even want to ask how she managed to take this.
Wanda: I stole it.
Oh. Well, okay then. Looks like you had your first lead.
Finding your father can wait. Right now, you had a murderer to stop.
------------------
Y/N: Mr. Washburn?
No response. You and Wanda were standing in front of his door at the rundown apartment building. It was about two blocks away from the dock.
You knocked again, a bit harder this time.
Y/N: Mr. Washburn? This is SHIELD. Open up.
You heard some bottles fall over inside before the lock on the door was turned. It opened just a crack and a man looked out. His eyes were shrunken, and he looked tired as all hell.
Steven: Uh, hello?
Wanda: Are you Steven Washburn?
Steven: Um...yeah. But, what the...I didn't even do anything. Why is SHIELD knocking on my door?
You pulled out the badge Widow had given you and showed it to him.
Y/N: Can we talk inside?
Steven just threw his hands up and entered his apartment. You and Wanda looked at each other before you pushed the door open and entered.
The first thing you noticed was the smell of greasy food. The second thing, were the needles and pipes laying around.
Y/N: You weren't at work today.
Steven sat down on a pile of dirty clothes and looked at you.
Steven: What are you talking about? It's Saturday.
Wanda: It's Monday.
Steven: For real? Oh...man. I've been sick, man.
Y/N: Seems you've been sick a lot, lately. I don't want to beat around the bush 'Cause I have some important stuff to do, so I'm just going to cut to the chase. Your crew is dead.
Steven didn't really seem to process that information. He just smiled in a daze.
Steven: What?
Y/N: Your crew is dead, Steven.
Steven suddenly seemed to realize what you said. He looked at you, then at Wanda, then back at you.
Steven: What...like...drowned?
Wanda looked at you as you stared at the spun out man before you.
Y/N: No. Sorry to have to be the ones to break the news. Some had their throats clawed out. Others were apparently beaten to death.
Steven's eyes suddenly went wide.
Steven: Wait, did you...did you say clawed? Holy...holy shit!
He suddenly got up and stumbled towards the window. He pushed it open and leaned out of it to get fresh air.
Wanda: Does that mean something to you?
Steven: Y-Yeah! I told them. I...fucking told them! I knew. Saw it coming a mile away. Ever since I heard about those girls getting murdered, I just knew that it was bad times ahead, man.
So he thinks the murders on the boats had something to do with the women getting killed. And it seemed like he knew who it was, as well.
Steven: Ever since that, motherfucker showed up! God damnit, man.
Y/N: Talk to us, Steven. Tell us what you know.
Steven: I-I can't even begin. I mean, it was a while ago. Nearly three years. T-This guy showed up out of the blue one day and asked for a job down at the docks. It's just how it works around here. He wasn't friendly. Like, at all. He had this look to him.
Wanda: He got a job on the boat?
Steven nodded.
Steven: He never talked to no one. Kept to himself. Even bought a cabin at the edge of town so no one would bother him. I only talked to him once, but I could tell he was an evil son of a bitch. Built like a fucking monster, man.
Y/N: So you think this guy is responsible for all the murders? Why?
Steven hesitated before he sniffed.
Steven: W-Well, cause he cut a guy's arm off.
You and Wanda looked at him in surpise.
Steven: Y-Yeah. One of our guys got stuck on one of the traps. If you go overboard, that's it. A death sentence. B-But this guy, this beast, jumped over to get the guy. Next thing we know, he's being thrown on the deck without an arm. He started saying some crazy shit about claws or something. That was the last day I saw that guy on the boat. Sammy had to leave town, but the other guy, the evil one, he stayed. Now, I've seen a lot of weird shit around here. So much that it's become normal. But that guy....he ain't like anything I've ever seen before.
You looked at Steven.
Y/N: What was his name?
Steven: His name? Victor. Victor Creed.
-------------------
You drove down the road to the edge of town. There wasn't much out here beside the forest and an occasional cabin off to the side.
The story rang through your head as you tried to look for anything out of the ordinary with it. But, you couldn't even begin to tell if what he was saying was true.
The why Moony explained your father to you, it did sound like he had a rough past. He was a killer. A murderer. But he turned himself around and become something closer to a hero.
He saved the man's life.
But he may have also killed those men on the boat.
And maybe even the women.
Wanda: Says here that both of the women were found with their heads missing.
You glanced over to Wanda who was reading the newspaper Steven had given you. The articles were of the murders.
Wanda: That doesn't sound like a bear.
Y/N: It sounds like a killer.
Wanda looked over at you. She placed a hand on your free on.
Wanda: Darling, I'm sure your father isn't the one responsible.
Y/N: I don't know if he is or isn't. We just need to find him and see what he knows.
Wanda looked at you sadly before you turned off onto a dirt road. You drove up the road and noticed a "No Trespassing" sign.
Y/N: Good thing there's only two of us, huh?
Eventually, you pulled up to a drive way and parked the car. You and Wanda hopped out and looked at the cabin before you.
It wasn't anything grand. Just a one room cabin. But what was eye catching, was the several dead deer that were strung up in rows. The whole place smelt of rotting flesh.
Wanda: Your father has a way of life. Not my style, but it's a way of life.
You covered your nose and headed up the small walk way towards the cabin. You stopped and looked at it for a moment.
Y/N: No one's home.
Wanda: How can you tell?
You hesitated for a moment.
Y/N: I can't smell anyone.
Wanda looked at you confused. You rubbed the back of your neck.
Y/N: I never really noticed it back in New York, but I can smell a lot of things. I'm still working on it, but no one is here.
Wanda nodded and looked down. She kneeled down and touched the snow. Tire marks.
Wanda: These are two hours old. Seems to be a bike of some kind.
Y/N: A dirtbike. They don't look too deep. This wasn't my dad. It was someone else. Someone must came here and warned him that the cops might be looking for looking for him. Shit.
You sighed and looked around for a moment. Suddenly, something hit your head which caused a sharp pain.
Wanda: Y/N...woah!
She ducked under another attack. You reached up and pulled out the small object that had hit you. A quarter? But the edge was sharp.
More began to shoot out from the trees as you and Wanda ducked behind some cover.
Wanda: I thought you said no one was here.
Y/N: There wasn't. I can smell, 2 of them. No. 4. No. There's a small group of them.
Wanda peeked around the cover and spotted where the coins were coming from. She casted a spell which caught a few of the coins which seemed to scare the attackers. You then lunged out of hiding and charged towards the trees.
Wait.
These were kids.
Five of them. All of them looked feral almost. Like they haven't been anywhere near civilization in years.
They turned and began to leap from tree to tree. They were fast.
But they weren't a mutant.
You popped out your claws and gave chase on foot. You kept up well enough as the kids tried to get away.
You leaped up and sliced at one of the branches, and one of the kids fell from the tree. You quickly grabbed him and lifted him up as he trashed around.
Wanda quickly caught up to you as the others fled.
Kid: Let me go!
Y/N: Not til you answer some questions. What are you doing here? Do you know Victor?
The kid continued to struggle to escape your grip. You and Wanda looked at each other before you sighed.
Y/N: Alright. New tactic. You like candy?
--------------
You were inside the cabin with the kid sitting in the corner. You had given him the candy bar you had picked up the day before at the gas station.
He couldn't have been older than 10. His hair was long and shaggy and his teeth seemed to be a bit sharper than they should be.
Y/N: You know Victor? We're looking for him.
The kid looked at you suspiciously. You sighed and kneeled down to be at his level.
Y/N: Victor is my dad. My name is Y/N. Look, I even have claws like him.
You popped out your claws but the kid didn't seem to care.
Kid: My pa told me there's nothing wrong with hurting someone if they deserve it.
Wanda: That's an interesting opinion. Why did you attack us, then?
The kid glared at her before he turned back to you.
Kid: This is his home.
Y/N: So you're protecting him? Why?
Kid: He saved my life. He protects us. Ever since pa died, we been on our own. Sabertooth helps us.
Sabertooth? That was his code name back with the Strikers. So this kid did know your dad.
You looked at Wanda and sighed.
Y/N: Do you know where he is now?
The kid stayed silent.
Y/N: Kid...
Kid: Neither of you belong here. Burns isn't nice to outsiders. You got past the spell.
This caught your attention. You and Wanda turned back to the kid.
Y/N: Spell? What spell?
Kid: The one that protects the land. It hides away from the outside.
Wanda lifted her hand and began to move it through the air. She turned to you.
Wanda: He's right. There's a spell over the town.
You turned back to the kid, but he was already gone. There was a missing board in the wall.
Y/N: Shit.
You just sighed and turned towards the door.
Y/N: He's not coming back. My dad either.
Wanda: So what do we do now?
You stopped and thought about it.
Y/N: Find us a place to stay. I think I should talk to some more people.
---------------
Talia: Sandy was a dental assistant. Why you want to poke around people's mouths all day, I would never understand. But she said she liked the work. That she liked the patients. She was a people person.
You sat across from Talia Evans. The mother of Sandy Evans. One of the murdered women. Beside her seat was a photo of her daughter. She was a beautiful girl.
Talia wiped her eye with her tissue as you listened to her story.
Talia: It's been weeks since she died. But it still feels like yesterday.
You nodded. You had just lost someone as well. You understood her pain to a degree.
Y/N: I'm....so sorry for your lost, Ms. Evans. But, did she ever date anyone? Maybe there's a boyfriend or a fisherman or....
Talia nodded.
Talia: She went steady with a few, yes. No one lately....that I know of.
She set her tissue on her lap and looked at you.
Talia: You're with SHIELD, yes? Do you think what happened on the boat has something to do with what happened to my daughter?
You rubbed your chair as you sat up.
Y/N: We don't know. We like to consider every possibility, though.
Even if that meant looking into your father. Talia shook her head.
Talia: When I heard the same thing that happened to my Sandy to that Jessica girl, I just knew something was off. Couldn't be no bear. I don't care what the sheriff said.
You looked at her confused.
Y/N: Why not?
Talia: What kind of....what kind of bear rips off a car door? For a little while I didn't even want to believe that it was her. Because....did you know they never even found a head? Then I saw her tattoo. From her favorite children's book.
Y/N: What did the tattoo say?
Talia: Goodnight nobody.
Talia began to cry again and you placed a hand on her shoulder.
You couldn't bring her back. Just like how you couldn't bring Venom back.
But you can stop this from happening again.
--------------
Wanda: I like it. Cozy. And the bed is just big enough for the two of us.
Wanda laid on the bed and looked over at you with a smirk. You leaned on the desk and looked at the newspaper.
Wanda: Oh, darling~
Y/N: I don't get it. Is this just a killing spree? Or, are all of these deaths really connected? And what about the drugs?
Wanda rolled over to her stomach and posted herself up on her elbows.
Wanda: You really know how to kill the mood.
You turned around and looked at her. You sighed as you rubbed your chin.
Y/N: Sorry. I'm just...confused.
Wanda sat up on her knees and smiled.
Wanda: I know. And we'll figure it out. But not now. We'll take it from the top tomor....
Ring!!!
Ring!!!
You and Wanda looked at the phone that was on the nightstand. You walked over to it and picked it up.
Y/N: Hello?
There was no response at first. Just heavy breathing. You looked at Wanda before there was a voice.
???: Heard you were looking for me.
Your eyes grew wide.
Y/N: Vic....
???: Don't.
Beep!
You held the phone for a moment as theine went dead. You looked at it before you set it down.
Wanda: Who was that?
Y/N: My father.
You gritted your teeth before the radio began to act up. You both looked at it as the static turned to a voice. A deep voice.
???: Hello, dear listeners. It is I. Nicholas Prophet.
Wanda: The Aurora Cult.
Prophet: Time is running out. The Long Night is coming. I feel right now, as the equinox approaches, the same way I felt as a child when being tucked into bed. I had a ritual. A nightly comfort I will share with you now.
You reached for the knob, but it wouldn't turn. If anything, it just got louder.
Prophet: I was drawn, even at a young age, to the night. The mystery and power of it. Even before I could read, I knew the words to my favorite book. I would recite them every night before I closed my eyes.
Wanda: Y/N, something isn't right.
Prophet: One page in particular stayed with me. A page that still fills me with awe and terror and excitement. Because it is the page that awaits us all. A page of nothingness. Of erasure. Of death. A page that is blank, except for two words.
Your eyes went wide.
Prophet: Goodnight....nobody.
