we don't have a lot, but we've got each other
MADDIE GIGGLED — fucking giggled — to something Paul said about him pulling a stupid prank on Embry and Quil. She leaned over in his Jeep Grand Cherokee, and she playfully shoved him on the shoulder, smiling widely.
"Hey, hey! Don't go punching the designated driver!" He exclaimed lightly and smiled widely as she snorted, her smile so wide it made cute little dimples appear on her cheeks.
"Thank you for this, Paul," she told him, turning to stare at him, her smile dampening slightly, but her eyes spoke levels. "I really needed a break from everything, and you gave that to me. Thank you." She leaned over and placed a chaste kiss on his cheek at the exact moment they pulled into the Swan residence. She blushed lightly as he turned his head slowly in her direction, his cheeks turning a light pink. He then tensed slightly and looked out the window. "Someone's here."
Maddie quickly turned around to face the house, her eyes widening and heart pounding as it landed on a familiar sleek black Impala. "Sam?!" She exclaimed and found herself opening the passenger door and sprinting toward the front door on the house. She practically ripped open the door and ran inside, instantly going toward the living room.
She halted to a stop, almost running into a wall. Her dark brown eyes moved from Charlie to Bella, to Sam to...
Castiel, and then...
Dean.
Time seemed to stand still. Only deep breaths, a distance voice shouting, "Maddie", and shifting of feet could be heard.
The green eyed man stood up upon hearing and seeing Maddie. His heart was on a rampage in his chest, his throat aching as he didn't know what to say or do. And then his vision was full of redhair as she bulldozed straight into his arms.
"Dean!" She sobbed into his chest, holding onto his jacket, fingers digging into the material. Her right cheek was pressed harshly into his chest where she can hear his rapid heartbeat. She breathed in his scent and exhaled a small whimper. "Dean... you're here. You're really here."
Charlie looked between his daughter and the man he had just met thirty minutes ago hug. He had saw the tall one — he had found out his name Sam — at the school, but never spoken to him. He had just learned that Maddie had been traveling with them for the past few years instead of being with her mothers brother who died a little over a year ago.
What he didn't know was that Bobby wasn't her mothers brother, she had just came up with the best story she could that he and everyone else would believe. Of course Bella pretty much knows the whole truth, so she knew about who Sam and Dean is, and who Bobby was to her.
But, of course, she was more than shocked when Sam and Dean showed up at their front door step with a guy Maddie told her was an angel of the lord. But she had been more than surprised because of Dean and Castiel being presumed dead. But, it wasn't like she could've said anything because her father was the one who answered the door and wanted to know how these three grown men knew his youngest daughter.
Paul paused in the doorway to the living room, confused, shocked, and a little jealous. He closed the front door to the house and walked further into the room, Sam and Castiel's attention instantly going to him. Charlie was still focused on Dean and Maddie, and so was Bella.
"Okay! What the hell is going?! Who are these men and how do you really know them, Madelyn?" Charlie demanded which broke Dean and Maddie from their hug. He turned to fully face his daughter. "They just told me you have been traveling with them for the past few years. What the hell happened to your mothers brother?"
Maddie pursed her lips, glancing over at Sam, Dean, and Castiel. She gave the angel a smile and a wink, mostly because she almost forgot he was back too, her whole focus had been on Dean. She then looked back to her father who was both angry and confused. "They are my mothers brothers son's," was her simple answer. It wasn't a complete lie seeing as Bobby did look at Sam and Dean as his sons. "And Castiel is their friend." She winked at Dean who shifted slightly.
She hates lying to her father, but he doesn't know about any supernatural being and he's been perfectly safe, so she didn't want to ruin that for him.
"That still doesn't explain why you were with these men traveling and never came by to say hello to me and your sister." Charlie pointed to him and then Bella.
The redhead took in a deep breath. "Bobby... my mothers brother died and after that, it didn't feel right to come back here, so I stayed traveling with his sons, hoping to find myself. I was hoping I wouldn't be such a wreck when I decided to come back to Forks... as you can tell, I am still very much screwed up." Bobby had died nearly weeks before she came back, so she only lied about how far ago his dead was, but it still hurt to lie to her own father who she loves very much.
"You're not screwed up, Maddie," Charlie spoke softly, walking forward to pull his daughter into a comforting hug.
"I am, but it's okay," she told him. She glanced over her shoulder at Paul when she pulled out of the hug. "Someone I care for told me it's alright to be broken, I just have to embrace that part of me and not let it control me."
Dean, Sam, and Castiel turned to stare at Paul who shifted slightly, cheeks heating up. Dean decided to pull out the protective older brother mode, and stepped closer to Paul, eyes narrowed.
"Oh, uh, hi. I'm Paul... Paul Lahote." The nineteen year old boy swallowed thickly and held out his hand to Dean who stared down at his hand with disinterest. "Uh..."
Maddie chuckled, and so did Bella. "I never thought I would see Paul basically shit himself."
"Me either, but it's entertaining," the brunette said, covering her mouth as she held in a snort.
Charlie leaned closer to his youngest daughter, grinning. "I think I like Dean."
Maddie looked over at him with a grin. "You say that now until he starts playing pranks and decides to eat all the pie in the house."
He looked down at her with raises brows. "Oh... like you don't?"
Maddie looked offended while Bella laughed out loud. "I-I do not!"
What they didn't notice was that the Winchester's and Paul was watching the interaction with smiles on their faces.
Paul was looking at Maddie like she hung the moon and the stars, and that she was his entire world.
Dean looked between the two of them, noticing the look, and the way Maddie seems to be way happier than she has in a while. He turned to Paul who's head snapped to him quickly with fear in his eyes. "You did this?"
Paul looked from Dean to Maddie and back a couple of times before shaking his head. "I am not going to take credit for this. But, I will say she's had incredible people at her side to help her see that she's not cursed." Not the Cullen's.
Dean shared a look with his brother before turning to Paul with his hand held out. "Take care of her and we won't have a problem."
Paul instantly gripped his hand. "I can promise you that I would rather die than hurt her in any compacity."
Sam gripped his shoulder. "And we will be here to make sure you hold up on that promise."
While this was happening, Maddie and Charlie was still going back and forth about who annoys the other most while Bella filmed the whole thing on her phone.
