i wanna contribute to the chaos

MADDIE FOUND HERSELF doing something — once again — she thought she would never do. And that was bonding with supernatural creatures. Last time she did this, she ended up hurt. But, she found herself doing it again, anyway. This time though, she's going to be more cautious because she didn't want to put her heart on the line anymore. Especially not right now.

But, she allowed herself to hang out with the pack at Emily's house so she could hear them out, and get a good feel for their intentions.

It's been two days so far and she hasn't found a flaw with them — well, other than their anger problems — but they were nice. Plus, most of them were teenagers meaning they are still learning how to control themselves, but yet, there hasn't been a problem.

So, now, after spending a few hours at Emily's, as Bella and Maddie decided to walk home instead of getting one of the boys to drive them, Bella had suddenly gotten an idea. So, now they were walking in the opposite direction of their home, and trying to find a meadow he-shall-not-be-named took Bella to.

Bella stayed silent as she walked up the path to the woods. She seemed to be in a hurry to get there, but Maddie noticed her look around a few times, appearing to be lost.

"Do you even know how to get there?"

"No..." Bella hesitated with a sigh and a glance back at her sister. "I'm trying to remember."

Madelyn cursed under her breath, wanting to go home and take a nap, but no, her sister wanted to cling on to her ex who literally broke her.

Finally, after what seemed like forever, they broke through a small clutter of trees and a smile lit up Bella's face. "This is it."

Maddie looked around with an eyebrow raised. The meadow was pretty, sure, but she still didn't see anything special about it.

Bella walked towards a small patch of flattened grass and crouched down next to it.  "It's where he took me right after I found out he was a vampire," she admitted after a few seconds of silence. "I know I should be mad. I am. But, he was the first boy who made me feel special and whole. And I know that it wasn't healthy to depend on him as much as I did, but I can't — couldn't — help it. Now, all I have is memories and I guess I can live with that." She looked over at her sister who slowly took a seat on the ground. "With you by my side, I know I will be better. We will be better. Together."

Maddie couldn't help the small smile that appeared on her face. "Together."

They sat together in a comfortable silence for a few minutes, just soaking in the sun for what felt like the first time in forever.

But, the moment was ruined once Maddie got a sensation that she only got when she felt like she was being stalked. A chill went down her spine and the hairs on the back of her neck stood up. Quickly scrambling to her feet, she went in a full circle, trying to spot the person or monster that was currently watching them.

"Maddie?" Bella asked hesitantly as she slowly stood up in confusion.

"Bella, Madelyn."

They spun around quickly to face Laurent who was walking into the clearing, smiling widely at them.

Instantly, Maddie pulled Bella behind her and kept a hold of her arm just in case he tried to pull anything. Her free hand inched toward her gun at the back of her waistband. She knew bullets wouldn't do much, but it would stall and they might be able to get away. "What do you want?" She asked through clenched teeth.

The dark-skinned vampire smiled at the sisters, "I didn't expect to find you two here. I visited the Cullens house, but it was empty. I'm surprised they left you two behind. Aren't you sort of pets to them?"

Bella scowled at him. "They went on a trip. They'll be back soon."

Madelyn's features hardened even more at the mention of the Cullen family who broke their hearts and trust. But, she was proud of her sister who thought quickly and came up with a lie.

"Mm, where did they go?" He taunted, causing Maddie to bite the inside of her cheek. He turned all his attention to the brunette. "Do they visit often, Bella?"

She blinked quickly. "Yeah, absolutely. All the time. I'll tell them you stopped by. I probably shouldn't tell Edward though, he's pretty protective."

"But he's far away, isn't he? And Jasper?" He looked at Madelyn, a mischievous glint in his red eyes.

"Why are you here?" she asked, changing the subject. It appeared that Laurent wasn't aware of who she is and how she was the one who actually killed James.

Laurent sighed, a little disappointed that they didn't want to play his game. "I came as a favor to Victoria. She asked me to see if you were still under the protection of the Cullens. She feels it is only fair to kill Edward's mate, seeing that he killed hers. An eye for an eye."

Bella began to grow panic, but hid it really well on her face. The only thing that would give her away is her heartbeat. It was one of the things Maddie hasn't taught her to control, yet. "They would know who did it," she countered, swallowing thickly. "And if not the Cullen's, then my sisters very powerful friends." Of course she knew that Maddie's friends who were pretty much her brothers, didn't know anything about what is happening.

"Oh, but I don't think they would. After all, how much could you guys mean to them if they left you here unprotected?" He mocked Bella, a smirk on his perfect features. Maddie gritted her teeth, as Laurent stepped closer to the pair. "Victoria won't be happy about me killing you. But I can't help myself, you're so mouthwatering."

"Laurent you helped us," Maddie countered, her words coming out raspy. "Why would you be helping Victoria now?" She recalled how he warned them about James.

"Don't be afraid." he said simply as he raised his hand above his head. He was now directly in front of them, his eyes moving quickly between the sisters. "I'm doing you a kindness. Victoria plans on killing you both slowly, painfully, whereas I'll make it quick. I promise you will feel nothing." He opened his mouth, baring his teeth and Bella visibly tensed up.

"Hell to the no!" The redhead all but shouted, pulling out her gun and firing at him mercilessly. She hit him between the eyes, in the neck, in the stomach, and in the dick. All over the place. She didn't care.

When she finally ran out of ammo, Laurent slowly stood up, his skin a little cracked, but overall, there was not much damage done.

He turned all his attention on Maddie in bewilderment. He tilted his head and studied her, clearly he had underestimated her. "Huh. That was unexpected but entertaining all the same."

She tucked away her gun and pulled out two daggers that she had personally made out of steel, so they were heavier than she was used to, but would work better on Cold Ones. "You should leave. Or else."

He smirked and regained the composure he had before her attack. He took a step forward, and so did the redhead, twirling the daggers threateningly in her hands.

"Maddie!"

The girl in question glanced to her sister to see the older girl's attention on something else. Still keeping Laurent in her peripheral vision as she looked over at what had her sister smirking.

The redhead couldn't help but chuckle in amusement and turned her attention to Laurent who now looked a little afraid. "Well, it looks like you're in for a treat." She then grinned at the joke she made without even realizing it. "Or well... you'll be the treat to my new friends." She rose a brow at the vampire as the wolves marched up to the girls, standing protectively to their side as Sam went in between them and slightly in the front.

A wolf sounded like it snorted so she looked to her right where a grey wolf stood beside her. She knew it was Paul by the color of his fur and the color of his eyes. She sent him a wink before turning her attention to Laurent who looked between them. She missed Paul's wolf looking away at the effect the wink had on him.

"I don't believe it," Laurent whispered in astonishment.

Sam in his black wolf form snarled and took a closer step toward the nomad. He — as the alpha — barked at the pack, seeming to have given an order before they all stalked towards the vampire.

"Hey, dickwad, you should probably run. It'll make the chase better!" Maddie called out to Laurent who then turned his attention to her, his eyes narrowing.

And in a blink of an eye, Sam was thrown away and Maddie was suddenly grabbed and flashed in front of the group, Laurent holding her by the neck from behind.

"You think this is a game?" He hissed as he lowered his mouth to her ear, smirking as he saw the snarling wolves and a glaring Bella. "Newsflash, human, it's not. If I don't kill, Victoria will and she will relish in your blood and cries of pain. It'll be fun for her. Oh, how she will only be angrier if you kill me... her only friend."

Yelling loudly, Maddie twisted the dagger in her hand and slammed it backwards into Laurent's stomach. He hissed and gripped her wrist tightly with one hand, squeezing so hard she let out a scream in pain. He smirked and then threw her to the ground harshly just as he saw the wolves advancing.

The next thing anyone knew, a grey wolf was on Laurent, tearing into him viciously, not caring about how wild he looked.

"Maddie!" Bella screamed and ran toward her sister, pulling the redhead away from the flying body parts, tucking her into her body protectively. "It's okay. You're going to be okay," she comforted her younger sister as the both of them watched as Laurent's body pieces fell to the ground and suddenly, his body was caught on fire by Sam who was now in human form and naked.

"Fuck me," Maddie groaned, biting back the cries that wanted to leave her lips. Even though she could tell that it wasn't completely broken, it was definitely fractured and it was bleeding — Laurent's nails had dug themselves in her skin apparently.

"Madelyn!" Paul's pained voice shouted as he ran toward them, naked but not caring. He was only worried about the redhead in Bella's arms. He bent down and took a look at the arm she was clutching to her chest. "Crap!" He ran his fingers through the hair that fell in front of her eyes and tucked it behind her ear. "We can take her to Emily, she knows how to tend to wounds."

Bella opened her mouth, ready to mention going to a hospital when her sister shot her a glare with a shake of her head. The brunette sighed but nodded. "Okay, but—"

"I'll carry her," Paul hurried out, gently but easily picking Maddie up from Bella's arm, cradling her to his chest protectively. He noticed the look Bella gave him but he ignored her and began trekking toward Emily's.

ONCE MADELYN'S ARM was covered in bandages and held up by a splint, and she had taken pain medication, they all stood around her. She knew they were waiting for an explanation on why she was so ready to fight a vampire and why she had fired bullets at him.

"So..." she smacked her lips together with raised brows. "Do you have any questions?"

Sam rose a brow at her nonchalance. "How are you even alive right now? A regular human would've been killed but you fought against that thing." He recalled seeing her shooting the Cold One and then stabbing him even as though she wasn't even fazed.

Maddie sighed and glanced to her sister who was gripping her good hand tightly. "I am no regular human," she countered and then grimaced at her wording. "The day I went missing all those years ago, my school bus was attacked by a monster — a Wendigo, and I was saved by some guys. That was when my world turned upside and I became a hunter. A supernatural hunter," she informed and watched various expressions take over their faces. "I was taught how to protect not only myself, but innocent people."

"So, you're like us?" Jacob asked with a tilt of his head, glancing at Paul who wasn't taking his eyes off of his imprint.

The redhead had to stop herself from making a weird expression, and then thought about it for a second. "I guess. But, in my case, I don't have magical powers that help me out. It's just me, my weapons, and brute force." She shrugged and then winced as pain flared up her arm.

"If you're a hunter, why did you hang out with the Cullens?" Embry asked, wincing slightly when she narrowed her dark eyes at him.

Sighing loudly, she said, "they were the unknown and nice." She hated how her mouth dried up as the words left her mouth. It felt weird to say anything remotely good about those assholes. "And because throughout my years of hunting, there has been some nice monsters that want to try and live as normally as they can. That's what the—" she shook her head, "— they did or well, still are trying to do, I guess."

"Then why do you resent them so much?" Jared asked and them avoided the look she gave him by picking at the muffin he was nibbling on.

"Because I'm tired of people leaving," she stated with a deadpan stare. It was true. Somehow them leaving on their own free will and not by dying, hurt more. She doesn't understand that logic, but that's how it is.

Paul opened his mouth before he could even think, "we aren't leaving anytime soon." His brown eyes widened as everyone turned their attention to him, and he blushed deeply. "I—" his heart was thumping loudly, "I mean, we, um — our basic instinct is to protective our Rez and the humans. That is — that is what I meant." He swallowed thickly, glaring down at his shoes. He never has stuttered like this before and it's both embarrassing and stupid as hell.

Maddie tilted her head at him before her lips twitched up in amusement. She then shook her head, turning away from him even though something deep within was telling her to get closer to him. Clearing her throat, she asked, "any more questions?"

Quill slowly raised his hand, but quickly put it back down when the redhead snorted at him. "Uh... why did you come back to Forks? Why not still be out there hunting down monsters that kill people?"

Maddie couldn't help but flinch as memories flooded her black eyes. "A lot of bad stuff happened, stuff I would rather not talk about. Especially to people I barely know." She glanced over at Bella who sent her a small smile, showing that she was still there for her and always will be.

Emily smiled, seeming to understand what Maddie didn't want to say. "We aren't going to force you to tell us anything you don't want to. Whenever you're comfortable — if you are — you can come to us. We won't judge." She offered both girls a motherly smile. "You two should get back home, Charlie will be worrying soon."

"Okay," Maddie jumped down from the counter she was sitting on and took on a deep breath as the movement made pain shoot up her wrist again.

"Bye," Bella said with a small smile as the sister duo left the house, still holding hands.

Sam turned around to face Paul, his eyes narrowing. "You need to tell her the truth soon. Everyone in this room could see her looking over at you every minute. It was like she couldn't help it. Usually humans don't feel the bond, especially this early on, but it seems like Maddie is special. The sooner you tell her, the better."

Paul swallowed thickly and watched Maddie and Bella's figures disappear into the woods.
