cute. but devilish inside

THE BLACKS' HOUSE was a small wooden place with narrow windows, the dull red paint making it resemble a tiny barn.

When Maddie got out of the truck, she saw Jacob walking out of the barn.

"Hey, guys!" Jacob's excited grin stretched wide across his face, the bright teeth standing in vivid contract to the deep russet color of his skin. He rushed up to the sisters and hugged Bella before turning to the redhead who backed up as she saw him about to hug her, too. He stopped and frowned a little. "Where the hell have you been, locas?"

"We... brought you something," Bella said as she went to the bed of the truck and pulled the tarp off the two rusting motorcycles.

"Wow. Scrap metal. You shouldn't have," Jacob said, not knowing how to react to the beaten-down motorcycles.

"We saved it from the junkyard. I think they'll probably cost more to fix than they're worth but then I thought that if I had a mechanic friend to help us out..." Bella explained, looking up at Jacob.

Plus Charlie is the one who is forcing us to come here — Madeline thought bitterly. She knew how to work on vehicles just like Jacob, but because of them lacking friendships, Charlie told them to go to Jacob's or he'll take the motorcycles from them.

"Me being the mechanic type friend?" Jacob questioned. "Since when you two are in motorcycles?"

The redhead scoffed lightly. "I have always liked them, just never had one of my own before." Unless the one she stole from Bela counts. But it's not like that the woman needed five motorcycles, especially with the money she had stolen from Dean.

The brunette sighed a little at his look. "It might be completely stupid and reckless, but—"

"Yeah, it's completely stupid and reckless." Jacob agreed with a nod. "When do we start?"

The older sister looked at Jacob, surprised by his agreement. "Now, please." Jacob went to take one of the motorcycles out from the truck. "Be careful, they're really—" Bella stopped talking when they saw Jacob unloading the bike swiftly from the truck bed easily. "Jake, you're like, really buff. How can that happen? You're like, sixteen. I don't get it." She casted a look to Madeline who was now staring at him in slight suspicion.

"Age is just a number, baby," he told Bella as he started wheeling the motorcycle into the garage. "Aren't you like forty now?"

"It feels like that sometimes," Bella replied as the sisters followed Jacob.

IT WAS A few days later when the sisters walked into the barn to see Jacob already working on the bikes.

The sisters were now dressed a little more appropriately; Maddie was wearing a black tank-top that had a cherry above her left breast with blue jeans, black Doc's that had cherries painted all over them, and her long red coat. Bella was wearing black high-waisted pants, a red t-shirt that had a Harry Potter quote on it, her signature black converses, along with a long black coat.

Maddie walked over to the radio and turned it up before banging her head to AC/DC.

Things were beginning to look up. Ever since they started going to Jacob's regularly, even without working on the bikes, the sisters starting feeling a little more at ease. Bella was still hurting badly and groaning harder everyday, but Maddie decided to ignore that part of her life for now. She swallowed back the pain and anger that the Cullen family had caused because at this point, she should be used to people leaving her. And honestly, there is a little comfort in goodbyes because everyone has left her at some point.

Though, this time was a little different. They left on their own free will, not by death. And that was what truly hurt her the most. But now, she is trying to move on by doing the only thing she knows how to do — bottling up her emotions for a later date.

"So, I was thinking if we're gonna do this everyday, and hopefully we will, we have to, like, fit some homework in there somewhere," Bella suggested to Jacob. "I don't want Billy thinking we're a bad influence on you."

"You influence me? Please." Jacob scoffed.

"We're older than you," Maddie pointed out, smirking as she sat down beside Bella. "So that makes us the influencer and you the influence." She flipped her long red hair behind her shoulder, leaning back. "And let's not forget, I am a bad influence."

Jacob shook his head at her. "My size and knowledge base actually makes me older than you two," Jacob said, turning around to the sisters. "Because of your general paleness and lack of know-how," he said before turning back to the motorcycle.

The redhead rose her brows and leaned forward. "Excuse me?" She rose to her feet and slowly approached him. "Jacob, love, I am the one who picked out these bikes knowing they would take a while to get up and running just because I wanted a little challenge. You're the person our dad wanted us to go to for help—" she put air quotes around the last word, "— or else he would make sure that we wouldn't be allowed to have them." She gave him a dirty look. "And if we were to go up against one another, I could take you in both brain and brawn. So, take a seat back and learn not to underestimate us Swan women."

Bella smirked and clapped her hands. "She sure told you, Jake."

Maddie dramatically turned around so fast that her hair flew over her shoulder before she sat back down beside her sister. "Now, get to work so we can make fun of you having trouble with the engine, alright?"

Jacob stared at her with wide eyes, his mouth opening and closing in shock. "Damn. Alright."

"Yo, Jake, you in there?" There was a knock at the door which made Bella jump in surprise.

Jacob smiled reassuring at her. "No, it's okay. It's just my boys," he assured as two tall, dark skinned boys strolled into the garage. One was slender, and almost as tell as Jacob. His black hair was chin length and parted down the middle, one side tucked behind his left ear while the right side swung free. The shorter boy was more burly. His hair was so short it was almost a buzz. "This is Bella and Maddie. Guys, this is Quil and Embry."

"I'm Quil Atera," one announced, obviously trying to impress the sisters, especially Maddie.

"Hey, guys. I'm Embry, Embry Call," the other said with a smile and waved with one hand, which he then shoved in the pocket of his jeans.

Maddie nodded and looked them up and down, humming. They were cute, but she wasn't about to start something yet, especially when her heart was already vulnerable as it was.

"So the bike building story is true;" Embry said, taking his eyes off Maddie once she glared at him.

"Yeah, I taught him everything he knows," Bella joked as she stood beside her sister, holding her hand tightly.

"What about the part where you're his girlfriend?" Quil questioned, grinning as he looked between them.

"We're just friends," Bella clarified, shaking her head. Jake is a really nice boy and cute too, but he wasn't her type. And plus, she's still having trouble getting a particular boy out of her mind.

Embry laughed and looked at Jacob. "Ooh burn."

"Actually, remember I said she's a girl and a friend," Jacob told his friends, emphasizing the words.

"Embry, do you remember him making that distinction?" Quil asked, smirking.

"Nope." Embry laughed.

"So, you have girlfriends? That's awesome," Maddie quickly said, saving her new friend.

Jacob laughed. "Right. Quil's actually taking his cousin to prom."

"Yeah, that's still a riot. You want funny, Black? I'll give you funny," Quil said before him and Jacob started play fighting around the garage.

Madelyn laughed and crossed her arms, grinning from ear to ear. She was so happy to be here with Bella; she wouldn't know what to do right now if she had no one by her side. Bella was the one person in this town who knew most of the truth about her traumatic life, and she wouldn't want it any other way.

Embry approached the sisters and stood beside Maddie. "I got five bucks on Quil."

"You're on," she told him, watching the two fight.

TWO MORE WEEKS went by and soon it was Madelyn's eighteen birthday. She wasn't that excited about it, because it was just like any other day. It was nothing special. Especially when she doesn't have everyone she loves beside her, celebrating in some stupid way.

One year, on her sixteenth birthday, Dean and Sam had taken her to a strip club, and that went downhill pretty quickly. They had given her her first alcohol beverage and didn't think about how she would be as a drunk. She was shouting about how beautiful all the girls were and throwing all the money she had at them. At one point, she had gotten on the stage and started doing some dances which included the stanky-leg. They had soon gotten kicked out — literally. It was one of the best days of her life.

Now, Sam left her, Dean disappeared, Bobby was dead, along with Jo, Ellen, and Ash. All she has now is her father and sister, and Jacob. And one of them was working till the late hours of the night and might not be able to come home to celebrate.

Though, he had woken her up early with a present and breakfast in bed before leaving. He had gotten her a necklace that had a bullet amulet. It was see through and had a sunflower in it. She had cried happy tears at that fact because when she was little — before the bus was attacked and she left — sunflowers were her favorite flower. Along with the neck clad was a silver bracelet with a cherry charm on it.

Now, she was on her way to Jacob's, sitting in the passenger side of Bella's truck, fiddling with the necklace and bracelet, a small smile on her face.

Bella glanced over at her sister with a small smirk overtaking her features. Her sister has been through so much for so long and deserves to have an amazing birthday, and that's exactly what Jacob and her had planned for.

As they pulled up to Jacob's house, a trail of roses — her new favorite flower — could be seen leading to the Garage.

Madelyn glanced over at Bella with narrowed eyes, but the brunette simply ignored it, turned off the truck, and got out, leaving the redhead no choice but to follow.

The two sisters walked up to the garage, and right at that moment, it slid open to reveal three grinning boys. "Happy birthday!" They all shouted and was holding different things in each of their hands.

Embry was holding a teddy bear along with a jar of cherries. Quill was holding a big rose between his teeth along with a dozen red balloons in his hands. Jacob was holding up a camera as he took a picture of her standing there in surprise.

The whole garage was covered in confetti and red strips of paper hanging everywhere. Music was playing faintly in the background, and there was a bunch of objects with cherries painted on them all around the building.

Bella giggled slightly at her sisters slacked face and nudged her forward slightly. "Go on. They won't bite."

"Much," Quill winked which earned a snort from Embry.

"He's all bark, no bite," the other boy commented as Jacob sat down the camera and picked up a small box.

"Here, this is for you." He grinned and held it out to her.

Madelyn looked between the three of them, their presents, to a grinning Bella, and then to the box Jacob held out to her. She slowly took it from him before opening it. It opened up to reveal a music box. But, instead of a ballerina turning in a circle, it looked to be a biker chick with a black leather jacket that had a cherry on it.

"I made it. It took a while seeing as I didn't know how to carve, but—" He stopped talking once he saw a tear drop from her eye. "Maddie...?"

The redhead sucked in a breath and turned around quickly, wiping away any trace of the tear that had escaped.

Sure, the Winchester's, Bobby, and Cas would give her presents and allow her one beer for her birthdays, but it was never like this. She never had friends that went out of their way to decorate a whole building for her. It made her heart clench at the fact that she has friends now and there was no dangerous situation separating them.

While hunting, they barley had anytime to celebrate anything thoroughly and she understood that, she did. But, to be appreciated like this made her want to break down in content.

"Mads?" Bella whispered worriedly, beginning to walk toward her sister with a frown.

Quickly, the redhead turned around with a bright smile taking over her features. "Thank you guys so much!" It felt weird, being happy and not having to worry about someone dying, but she liked it. She wishes it could always be like this. "Let's get this party started!"

Soon, the day went by quickly.

They had spent it dancing to loud music, coming up with their own handshakes, eating lots of candy, and just having a good time.

It was the best birthday that Maddie has ever had and she would never trade it for the world.

BELLA WAS CURRENTLY driving the truck out to a meadow to test out the motorcycles while Jacob sat in the passenger seat. It had been about another week since Maddie's birthday.

The ride had been silent until Jacob spoke up, "If I told you I couldn't have fixed these bikes, what would you have said?" He questioned, glancing over at Bella and then back at Maddie.

"Are you doubting your mad skills?" Bella wondered, keeping her eyes on the road.

Jacob scoffed. "No, definitely not. I mean, they'll run fine. It's just... maybe if I was smart, I would've dragged out the rebuilt a bit."

"If you told me you couldn't fix these bikes, I would say that... that's really too bad, but that we're just gonna have to find something else to do," Bella replied, earning a smile from Jacob. She then smirked. "Plus, Maddie would've been able to do that all on her own. So, it wouldn't have been too much of a lost."

Jacob snorted. "Except for the fact Charlie would've made you get rid of the bikes."

"Yeah... there's that," Maddie agreed with a small smile.

Bella smiled before noticing a group of boys at the edge of a cliff. "Is that Sam Uley?"

"Yeah. Him and his cult," Jacob answered after chuckling slightly.

Bella's eyes widen when she saw the group fighting and pushed someone off the cliff. "Oh, my god." She quickly pulled the truck to the side of the road and immediately got out, looking at the cliff. "Did you see that?"

Maddie chuckled while smirking. "They're not really fighting, Hells Bells. They're cliff diving."  Jacob nodded in agreement. "Scary as hell, but a total rush."

"A rush?" Bella wondered, tilting her head.

"Most of us jump from lower down. We leave the showing off to Sam and his disciples," Jacob informed his friends.

Maddie turned around and approached Jacob. "You have some kind of beef with them or something?"

"I don't know. They just think they run this place. Embry used to call them hall monitors on steroids. Now, look at him," Jacob said, and the twins looked and saw Embry standing on the edge of the cliff with all of his chopped off.

"That's Embry?" Bella questioned, surprised. "What happened to him?"

"He missed some school and all of a sudden he started following Sam around like a little puppy. Same thing with Paul and Jared," Jacob explained to the brunettes. "Sam keeps giving me this look. Like he's waiting for or something. It's kinda starting to freak me out."

"I miss Embry," Maddie murmured to herself once she recalled how much fun she had with him on her birthday.

It had been a few days later when things began to change and suddenly, Embry and Quill stopped coming around. It had hurt her and put her back in a state of severe depression. She ended up having a mental breakdown to the point Bella was worried that she might leave town and never come back.

Quill and Embry leaving them had hurt both girls more than they thought it would, but at least they had one another and always will.

"Well, you should just avoid him," Bella suggested after a beat, just staring at the boys.

"I try," Jacob said as the two of them watch Sam jump off the cliff, diving straight into the water.

BELLA PULLED THE truck into a meadow field that looked perfect for a motorcycle ride.

Jacob pulled the bikes out of the bed of the truck and placed them on the ground.

Bella looked at the motorcycles and let out a shaky breath, she was a little nervous. "Okay," she said, taking a deep breath before she hopped onto the motorcycle.

"You look scared," Jacob pointed out, standing in front of the bike.

Bella scoffed. "I'm not," she lied, wanting to not look weak. She's been spending weeks with Maddie, training her body to the point she can barley stand up straight. But, this was different. She needed to feel free for a little bit.

Maddie lowly chuckled, shaking her head at her sister. "It's going to be fine. I'll be here if you get hurt." This was the whole reason Bella was going first — because she needs to learn how to ride them.

"Okay." Jacob smiled before placing his hands on hers and showed her the gears. "Brake. Clutch. Gas," he said as Maddie turned the switch on to make the engine rev. "Now, slowly the clutch."

Before she was going to release the clutch, Bella's eyes widen when she saw a ghostly hand over hers. "Bella." She looked up and her eyes widen when she saw Edward's ghostly figure in front of her. "Stop." She let out a gasp when the bike jerked forward.

"Bella?" Maddie asked worriedly as she got closer to her sister, giving her a once over. She knew that look right away and sighed with a frown. "Don't think about... him. Take in a deep breath and begin again."

Bella nodded and did as told. "I'm gonna go again," Bella replied, revving the engine and began to ride the motorcycle.

There was wind that wasn't there before, blowing her skin against her face and flinging her hair back behind her with enough force that it felt like someone was tugging on it. She'd left her stomach back at the starting point; the adrenaline coursed through her body, tingling in her veins.

Bella's eyes widen when she realized that the road was starting a slow curve to the left, and she was still going straight.

"Brakes, brakes," she muttered to herself, and she instinctively slammed down with her right foot, like she would in her truck.

The bike was suddenly unstable underneath Bella, she was going too fast. She tried to turn the handlebar the other direction, and the sudden shift of her weight pushed the bike towards the ground. Bella fell off the bike and rolled, letting out a groan when she hit her head on a rock.

Maddie's eyes widened as she ran ahead of Jacob, getting to her sister right before Jacob did. She grabbed Bella's head and inspected it. "Really?!" She harshly asked, "Are you trying to get yourself killed?"

Bella placed her hand up to the side of her head and let out a wince, she pulled her hand back to see her fingers covered in blood. "Oh, my god. I'm sorry," she muttered. She knew she should've been paying more attention to everything that the redhead had told her about riding bikes.

"You're apologizing for bleeding?" Jacob asked her strangely.

Looking up at Jacob, Bella realized how stupid that sounded to him. She slowly nodded. "Yeah, I guess I am."

Maddie scoffed and helped Bella up into a standing position. "We're going to go home and take care of her head," she simply told the boy before they made their way to the truck while Jacob grabbed the bikes.

Maddie sat Bella on the passenger seat and glared at her. "I know that the bikes were your idea, but if the reasoning behind it was to see him, you're doing it all wrong. Trust me. I would know better about seeing hallucinations of the dead telling you to do or not to do something, but you doing it anyway just to see them even more. Its not going to help and it's only going to get you hurt."

Bella sighed heavily and nodded slowly as her head rung. "I know. I just... don't want to be weak anymore."

"And you won't me, trust me," Maddie whispered to her, giving her a small smile. "We're going to get past this and we're going to be the best versions of ourselves. We just need to find the right solutions."

Bella smiled and leaned forward to give her sister a hug. "I wouldn't know what to do if you weren't here, Mads."

The redhead smiled and hugged her back. "Crash and burn."
