your veins are full of ice water but mine are boiling

AFTER CLEANING BELLA'S wound and stitching her up, Maddie and Bella cuddled with one another in the former's bed. Of course both of them were upset with the way the night ended. Actually, Maddie was furious. She knew she shouldn't have trusted them as much as she did, but she couldn't help herself. They were a nice, almost normal-ish family, except with being vampires.

Falling asleep, Maddie dreamt of Jasper and his golden eyes turning dark before launching at her.

Sh jerked away, her wide eyes glancing around the room to see if Jasper was there, but there was no one.

Sighing, she laid back down and absently ran her hand through Bella's hair, who was still asleep.

THE CULLEN'S DIDN'T show up at school the next day.

Or the day after that.

Edward hasn't contacted Bella which had the brunette on the edge of a panic attack because she thought it was all her fault. And Maddie was pissed, not only because Edward left her sister in a state of anxiety, but also because Jasper hadn't talked to her either. It was like the Cullen's just disappeared off the face of the earth.

The redhead was half tempted to show up to the Cullen house and confront them. But, she reeled it in — the anger, that is — and decided to spend all her free time with Bella to keep both of the occupied.

Of course Maddie wasn't going to let her world fall apart for a boy, especially a vampire.

It was on the third day, after school, that Maddie walked home from school. And that's when she saw him standing under her bedroom window with furrowed brows.

"What do you want?" She asked him harshly when she approached him. Her eyes were hardened, holding no emotion other than annoyance.

"I'm so sorry, Madelyn." He shoved his hands into his front pockets with a deep frown.

"For what?" She crossed her arms, and raised an eyebrow. "For almost attacking my sister? For flinging me into a wall? Or for disappearing for three days without saying anything?"

He looked towards the woods and then at her. "Walk with me."

She scoffed and uncrossed her arms, her hands balling into fists. "Why should I?"

He sighed softly and looked her in the eyes. "Please."

Pursing her lips, she tilted her head side to side before sighing loudly. "Fine. Lead the way." In her gut, she felt like something was off, but wanted to ignore it because she wanted — no, hoped — her life to not be complicated anymore. She just wanted to live peacefully with her sister and father, gain some friends that don't annoy her, and maybe, possibly, fall in love with someone.

Once they walked pretty far into the woods, Maddie felt her stomach twist in knots and she stopped walking. She chewed on the inside of her cheek and focused her attention back on Jasper; whose stony face was watching her's carefully with blank eyes.

He leaned against a tree, still staring.

Maddie shifted uneasily, which was so unlike herself. "Okay, let's talk," she spoke up confidently, and held his stare with an emotionless look to match his.

She stood with baited breath as he inhaled deeply.

"Madelyn, we're leaving," he said emotionlessly. His golden eyes briefly looked away from her dark ones and glanced away before returning faster than she could blink.

"Wait, what?" She asked, the words not processing in her head.

"It's time. How much longer could we stay in Forks, after all? Carlisle can barely pass for thirty, and he's claiming thirty-three now. We'd have to start over soon regardless."

She took in a short breath and took a step backwards, her brows pulling in together. She just looked at him silently. His eyes were cold and almost cruel as they met hers. It was then that the dawning truth hit her. He didn't care about her, just like how the rest of the family didn't. "Oh," was all she could mutter.

Honestly, she wasn't surprised. He wasn't the first person to want to abandon her, nor was he the first one to break her spirits. But, that didn't mean it didn't hurt.

Looking up, she swallowed thickly. "Are the others—"

"They already left," his words cut hers off.

She steeled herself, but she felt like stumbling back in hurt. They couldn't even say goodbye. Emmett couldn't even face her, and here she thought they were friends — best friends, actually.

"I stayed behind to say—"

Pursing her lips, she hardened her gaze and heart. "I don't care what else you have to say, asshole. I don't want anything else to do with you or your stupid family."

"Mad—"

She clenched her fists at her side. "I don't want to hear anything else."

"You're not good for me," he continued on to say, and something flashed in his golden eyes before it completely disappeared. "I don't want to be near you anymore."

Her heart felt like someone was squeezing it, but she wasn't going to allow the hurt to show on her face. So, she kept eye contact, and before Jasper knew it, her fist slammed into the side of his face.

She screamed out in pain, waving her hand from the pain, but she kept eye contact with him. "I don't ever want to see your face again," she spat out.

He stayed there for a second, his eyes wide in surprise before he disappeared in a blur.

In a fit of rage, a scream full of anger ripped through the air as Maddie punched a nearby tree over and over again until her knuckles were profusely bleeding.

Her rage held all the power of a wildfire, you could practically see the flames roaring in her eyes, ready to ignite anything that she came in contact with.

MADELYN HAD STAYED in the woods for a few hours, just screaming and taking her anger out on anything that got in her way. Eventually, her throat was burning and aching from how much she had screamed. It got to the point of sounding like had just smoked three packs of cigarettes.

Slowly, but surely, the red head made her way home, her hair frizzy and tangled up with leaves and sticks. Her hands were aching and she had them clenched tightly into fists, and dried blood was caked on them, making them hurt all the more.

It didn't take her long to get to the house.

People flooded their front yard. Police cars were up and down the street, their bright lights illuminating the night.

Charlie sported her coming out of the woods and ran to her, pulling her into an embrace which she hesitantly returned. "Where were you?" He asked worriedly, pulling back with teary brown eyes. As soon as he saw her own teary brown eyes and unruly hair, his worry grew tenfold. And then, once his eyes landed on her bloody hands, he quickly jumped into overprotective dad mode. "What the hell?! Who did this? What happened?!"

Maddie ignored his questions and frowned. "Who—" She paused and cleared her throat when she heard how scratchy and broken her voice sounded. "What's happening?"

He frowned and shook his head at her. "Both you and Bella have been missing for hours, and no once has seen either of you since school ended."

Looking up, that's when Maddie realized it was night time and the mood was high in the sky. Her frown deepened and looked back to her father. "Bella's still not back?"

He shook his head, more tears of fear and worry gathering in his similar eyes. "No. I was hoping she was with you."

Her gaze hardened once she realized that Edward must've done the same thing that Jasper had done to her, and she turned around to go marching back into the woods.

But, before she could, someone called out, "Charlie! They've got her!"

Everyone turned towards the woods where they could see a figure approaching.

Bella was unconscious. She laid in an unfamiliar pair of arms, her limbs dangling from her body.

"Bells!" Maddie exclaimed and watched as Charlie took her from the man.

"What happened?" Jacob Black appeared next to the redhead. "Is this because the Cullens' left?"

A lump grew in Maddie's throat and she scrunched her face up in anger and disgust. "I'm going to kill Edward." She pursed her lips and watched the shirtless man approach a group of people. "Who the hell is that, anyway?"

Jacob followed her eyes and his own darkened when they landed on the man. "Sam Uley."

Maddie simply just hummed before following after her father who was carrying her sister into the house. Turning around, she faced the large crowd of people and clapped her hands loudly. "Everyone leave before I start throwing shit at you!" And with that, she slammed the door shut.
