she is passion embodied, a flower of melodrama in eternal bloom

IT WAS THE next day after the whole James fiasco, and both sisters were in the hospital. Bella has a broken leg, a busted nose, and a head injury. Maddie, on the other hand, sprained her hand, popped her shoulder out of place, had a small head injury from hitting the mirror, and a sprained ankle. To say they were messes were understated.

Suddenly, there was a knock on Maddie's door and she quickly looked to it just as Charlie walked into the room with a small smile. He held up a coffee cup and a bag of donuts which had the redhead smiling at him in appreciation. But, the smile then disappeared when she saw Renée behind him.

"It's so good to see you, Madelyn," Renée breathed out awkwardly as she stood off to the side, closing the door behind her. "It's been a while."

Maddie nodded slowly and pulled herself on into a sitting position as Charlie handed her the bag and cup. "Thanks," she murmured and took a sip of the coffee. "I'm surprised you know how I like it." She opened up the bag of donuts and pulled out a chocolate one.

He chuckled and palmed the back of his neck sheepishly. "It's kinda hard not to notice with how much you make it."

Renée looked to Charlie with raised brows. "You let her have coffee?"

Maddie pursed her lips, ready for a fight to break out because Renée — once again — didn't like how Charlie handled things. That's all she can remember as a little kid — then always fighting. Sometimes it would be about his affair — which is reasonable — but other times, it'd be over something as simple as not cleaning up their toys.

"Not like he could stop me," she spoke up, taking a huge bite out of her donut. "And it's not like you have any say. You're not my mother, nor will you ever be."

Renée nodded slowly before frowning. "Where have you been these past seven years? We have tried to search for you, and nothing would pop up."

Maddie bit into her donut, but this time much slower. She kept eye contact with the older woman before tilting her head. "I didn't want to be found by you." She noted that both of their eyes widened. "I know you gave up on finding me after a year of 'searching'." She smirked and took a sip from her coffee. "Charlie is the one that never really gave up on me. It hurt me hurt him, but I just... after the crash," after everything, "I wanted to help people. So, I helped Bo— my uncle save people that were in similar situations." That was kind-of a lie.

Seeing as she was attacked by the supernatural and she saved others from the same fate, it wasn't a lie. But, they thought that it meant that she helped people that were in accidents and were disabled.

"You were only ten years old," Renée snapped before closing her eyes and taking in a deep breath. "A child should've and would've wanted their parents. Not run off with some strange man for seven years! You were a minor, and I was your mother, and I had the right to know where you were!"

Maddie rolled her eyes and steeled her gaze. "You were never my mother. Sorry to burst your little bubble, but it's the truth. You might've taken care of me like one, but then you took me away from my father." She glanced to Charlie who was frowning, tears in his similar eyes. "When the custody battle started, I told you I wanted to stay with him. I begged you for days on end, even locked myself inside my room for days, but you didn't care. You took me away from my father like it was nothing, leaving him alone, and making me resent you."

"I didn't know that," Charlie mumbled, running his hand down his face as he tried to not cry. He thought that both of his daughters didn't want to stay with him, that they both would rather live with their mother than to even think of him. It had hurt him, but to hear his youngest daughter say this, it made his heart swell.

Maddie turned to fully look at him, tears in her own eyes. "You always treated me like a princess even though I was the cause of your marriage problems. You never made me feel like a burden. And Bella never made me feel like an outsider in the family. I wanted to stay with you, I fought to stay with you but no one would listen to a stupid eight year old with a speech problem. You were my dad, and I ruined everything by staying away for so long." A tear skidded down her cheek. "I am so sorry."

Charlie's bottom lip trembled a little before he marched forward, and pulled her into a hug, being careful. "I forgive you." He placed a kiss on the crown of her head and tightened his hold on her ever so slightly. "Just make sure to never disappear again. Please. For the sake of your old dad's heart."

She let out a watery chuckle before smiling slightly. "I promise."

"I am sorry," Renée mumbled and they turned their attention to her. "But, he wasn't a suitable parent. The house he lives in had many problems that needed to be fixed, and he didn't make enough money to take care of himself, let alone a child. I did what I thought was best, and I don't regret it."

Maddie rolled her dark eyes. "I don't care. I would've been happy living in a box with him." It's not like she had a suitable living place since she was ten anyway. Between the Impala and nasty motels, it wouldn't have been a big deal to love in a run down house.

"And that's no way for a child to live," Renée continued, taking in a deep breath. "And whether you like it or not, I am your mother and I was worried for you. I loved you — I still love you."

Maddie swallowed thickly. "I think you're just happy I saved your actual daughter from the attacker."

They had lied to them, saying they went to the studio because they were nostalgic, and then was attacked by two guys in hoodie's. And both girls said they fought against them, and that Bella was knocked down the stairs and out of a window by one of them.

Now, the cops are out looking for two guys that don't even exist.

Renée gasped and shook her head. "That is not true! I love you both equally."

"If telling yourself that helps you sleep at night, then good for you." Maddie looked away from the woman and took a large gulp of her coffee.

Charlie looked between them and laid a gentle hand on his daughter's face. "We'll go now and let you enjoy your treat. But, don't tell Carlisle that I was the one that got it for you. Alright?"

The redhead snorted and nodded. "Of course... dad."

Charlie brightened up at that one word. "Oh, before I forget, you have a couple people outside wanting to visit."

Maddie perked up, immediately thinking of Sam and Dean before realizing that neither of them was coming back for her. Sighing, she rose a brow and forced a smile. "Send them in."

Charlie nodded and then they were gone.

A few seconds went by where Maddie was all alone in the room, just staring at the wall across from her with glazed over eyes.

She knew she was being a bitch to Renée and she kinda felt bad, but she never did feel that comfortable around the woman's company. It wasn't because she was cruel or anything. It was because when the woman looked at her, all she saw was Charlie's affair. And seeing as she was literally born two months after Bella, well, it hurt even more for the older woman knowing her husband slept with another woman while she was pregnant.

Maddie understood how it happened — though, she hates cheaters. They had been fighting a lot around that time, not only about his job that didn't make enough money, but also because Renée didn't think Charlie could be a good father. That, and because he had seen her flirting with another man. It hurt him, so he went out to go get a few drinks which turned into a lot. He was drunk, hurt, and when this mysterious red-headed woman came up to him, it was like she put a spell on him, and then the next thing he knows, nine months later, there was a baby girl at his doorstep.

And although it ruined his marriage, he wouldn't change a damn thing because it got him Madelyn. Of course he loved Bella, but Madelyn was the light to his dark. She has always been overjoyed when she came to see him. If she wasn't playing with Bella and Jacob, she was with him. So, if he had a chance to go back and change anything, he wouldn't.

There was a knock at the door which pulled Maddie out of her daze, and she looked towards it just in time to see the whole Cullen family.

"Hey!" Emmett boomed likely, holding up balloons and a teddy bear. "Ow!" He shouted as Rosalie slapped him upside the head with a 'sh'.

Maddie chuckled and looked up at the huge boy. "What do you go there, huh?"

He grinned and held out the items. "I didn't know what you would like, so here."

She smiled lightly and grabbed the teddy bear and bright pink balloons. "Just a heads up — I don't really like pink. Red is more my color."

"I told you," Rosalie hissed towards her boyfriend before holding out a box full of chocolate.

The redhead slowly took it from her with a cautious smile. "Uh... why are you handing me this? Did you poison them?"

The blonde rolled her eyes, but it was surprisingly not in annoyance. "No, I didn't." She glanced at Carlisle and Esme who gave her small smiles in encouragement. "You risked your life and went up against James. And you killed him... surprisingly. I didn't know you had it in you."

Maddie rose a brow. "It took a lot of strength, but hw was too blindsided by his anger and hunger, so it wasn't too hard."

Jasper chuckled lightly as he felt her pride wave off of her. "You're very confident for someone who is in the hospital, darlin'."

She looked over at him. "Well, I killed the asshole, didn't I? I think I have the right to be happy and confident that I killed the fucker who hurt my sister."

Carlisle shook his had at the teenager. He couldn't believe a human took down a strong vampire like James. In his hundreds of years on earth, he has never seen anything like it before. She was magnificent.

Alice smiled brightly and pulled the redhead into a hug. The red head's eyes widened and she pulled back quickly, frowning. "That was weird. Never do it again, please."

The pixie like vampire only smiled. "Hugs are what make people happy."

Maddie pursed her lips and then gestured to her coffee cup. "Coffee is what makes me happy." She then smiled. "And pie. Cherry pie to be exact."

Carlisle made a face at the coffee. "That's not healthy. You should be drinking some water so you can heal better."

The redhead rolled her eyes fondly at him. "I drank plenty of water already." She gestured to the empty gallon that was once filled with water. She had asked Charlie to drop it off so she didn't have to drink the nasty water that the hospital had. "Also, you're not my dad, so I will do the opposite of what you will tell me to do."

Rosalie smirked at that. "You'll do the opposite no matter who tells you what to do."

Maddie smirked at that and nodded. "You're not wrong." Suddenly, a groan left we mouth as she accidentally moved her sprained wrist. "Fuck. That hurts." She breathed in deeply through her nose and then leaned further back into the pillows. "I hate hospitals."

Emmett chuckled. "You're doing alright."

The teenage girl looked over at him with narrowed eyes. "Why aren't you with Bella?"

He shrugged while frowning. "Your mother and father wanted alone time with her."

"Renée isn't my mother!" Maddie snapped before huffing. "I don't even know who the hell my mother is..."

The Cullen's eyes widened in surprise before glancing at one another. "We thought..."

"I'm Bella's half sister," Maddie reluctantly stated with a wince as she felt pain spike up from her ankle. "My mother left me at Charlie's doorstep and took off. I don't know her name nor do I know what she looks like. Well, other than probably having red hair. How else would I have ended up with this luscious color?" She grinned as she ran her good hand through her soft and long hair.

Jasper frowned as he felt her sadness, but, her face remained neutral, not even looking like she was affected by anything that has happened within the last twenty-four hours. Let alone her whole life.

Not only had they learned that Madelyn was gone from Bella and Charlie's life for many years, but also that she knows how to fight supernaturals, and isn't even fully a Swan. They couldn't help but wonder what happened to her to make her into this person.

Maddie groaned again, feeling a head-ache coming on. "Can you guys leave? I just want to sleep away the past few hours. Thanks. Bye." She didn't even give them a chance to say anything as she turned her head away from them, closing her eyes.

Quietly, the Cullen's left the room, turning the light off as they did so. And they all vowed they'd do anything in their power to protect both Maddie and Bella.
