but whatever you do, dress to kill

MADELYN WOKE UP with a start, grabbing at her throat. Looking around her room with wide eyes, she took in everything and slowly calmed down. Once she realized she wasn't in her nightmare anymore, she laid back down and sighed heavily.

After a few seconds of staring up at her bedroom ceiling, she got out of bed, and walked towards her bathroom. She stripped down to nothing and decided to take a scalding hot shower.

Inside the shower, she scrubbed at her body, trying to rid herself of her nightmare, desperately wanting to get rid of any reminders of when she was in hell. Her dreams always started out the same - she was tied up in the air, wires coming out of every part of her, and every once in a while, a demon would come in to torture her. They would hurt her so bad that she would pass out, and once she woke up, they started it all over. It was a never ending torture session for those few months she was on there. And she can't seem to get rid of the memories.

Once out of the shower, she got dressed in black ripped jean shorts, a velvet crop-top with strings that criss-crossed in the back, a black leather jacket with a big red rose on the back of it, and then velvet colored knee-high three inch heels. She brushed and dried out her hair before straightening, and pulling her hair up into a high pony tail.

She sat down at her vanity and began her makeup. She decided to do something simple, just some red sparkly lipgloss, used her eyeliner to do a cat eye, mascara, and then put in a pair or simple red earrings. With that, she was done getting ready.

Slowly making her way downstairs, she walked into the kitchen to see Bella and Charlie talking. "Morning," she murmured as she walked over to the coffee maker.

Bella shared a look with Charlie and snorted loudly. "It's one in the afternoon, Mads."

The red head turned around and rose a brow. "Really?" She hummed when they both nodded. "Huh." She went back to making her coffee, making it extra stronger seeing as she has never slept this long before.

Bella walked over to the fridge, grabbing Charlie a beer while he cleaned his gun.

Maddie looked at the gun with slightly narrowed her eyes as she lifted her coffee mug to her lips.

Placing the beer in front of their father, Bella bit her lip before speaking, "I got a date with Edward Cullen."

Maddie choked on her coffee and had to sit it down so she wouldn't spill it. "You what?" She crossed her arms and stared at the brunette. "When did this happen?"

Charlie cleared his throat loudly. "He's a little old for you, isn't he?"

Maddie snorted and quietly began tapping her fingers on the small kitchen island. "If only you knew," she murmured under her breath.

Bella shook her head, sending her sister a warning look. "No. He's a junior and I'm a junior," she defended and tilted her head as her father barely looked up from the gun. "I thought you liked the Cullens."

Charlie looked up at that. "And I thought you didn't like any of the boys in town."

"I don't like anyone, really," Maddie spoke up as she picked up her mug and took a large gulp, not caring as it burned her tongue.

"Edward doesn't live in town.. technically," Bella stated the truth because the Cullen's didn't live on the border of Forks, not directly in the town. "Come on, please. He's right outside."

Maddie placed her mug on the counter a little to harshly as her eyes widened. "He is. Why?"

The brunette shot her a look. "To pick me up. Were you not listening?"

She tilted her head. "I was. I just didn't think he was here already, and that the date would even be today because it's suppose to rain tonight."

Charlie looked at his older daughter with narrowed eyes. "He's outside right now?"

Bella nodded. "Yeah. He wanted to meet you... officially."

A sigh left his mouth as he looked at the gun in his hand. Maddie began to smirk as she recognized the look; Dean used to do the same thing to any boy or girl that would flirt with her. He loaded the gun slowly. "Okay. Bring him in," with that, he latched the gun and grinned.

Bella looked to her sister who had a proud look on her face. "Be nice, please, he's a nice guy." She then gestured to the red head. "If he wasn't, I'm pretty sure Mads would've ripped his head off already. Trust me."

Bella walked towards the front door where they couldn't see from the kitchen, and they both looked to one another.

"He's good... for now," Maddie promised as she sipped her coffee and her father nodded with a small smile.

When Bella came back, not only was Edward behind her, but so was Jasper who smiled over at the red head.

"Cheft Swan, I'd like to properly introduced myself, I'm Edward Cullen," he introduced himself with a nervous smile that made Maddie snort. It was funny to see a vampire afraid of a human.

Charlie said a small, "hi," to him before gesturing to Jasper. "And you are?"

Jasper gave a timid smile to the Sheriff. "I'm Jasper Hale, sir. I'm here to pick up Maddie."

The red head spat out her coffee in shock and turned to the blonde. "You're what?" She then furrowed her brows. "Me? Why me?"

Jasper chuckled lightly and he gave her a smile that made her legs feel like jelly. Her weaknesses was a pretty boy with a great smile. Also accents, but that was something else entirely. "I thought it would do you good to have some fun, too. Plus, Emmett really wants to hang out with you again."

"Emmett?" Charlie asked, looking to his younger daughter with a raised brow.

Maddie's eyes widened comically. "He's taken!" Was the first words that left her mouth which made them chuckle. "We just played a video game which I totally beat his ass at. It was so fun!"

"Yeah, she jumped on the couch and did weird dance moves, all the while calling Emmett a loser," Bella commented with a smile.

Charlie watched his youngest daughter hold her head high with a big smile. He smiled too, happy that she was finally feeling at home, and that she has made friends.

Jasper gave the girl a smirk, liking the energy he was getting off of her. At that moment, he totally forgot that last night, Edward told them that he can't read her mind either. It was different than Bella's, though, because he can hear like a static noise, but nothing else.

"We won't keep them out long, we'll be playing a game of baseball with our family," Edward spoke up after a moment, reaching over to grab Bella's hand with a small smile.

"Baseball?" Charlie asked, glancing to Maddie, knowing she had liked the game before she went missing. "You still like the game, right, Mads?"

The red head gave him a soft smile. "Of course, Charlie." She winced as she felt bad for calling him his name. "I haven't played it in awhile, but I know the basic concept still."

Charlie slowly nodded before looking at her outfit. "Do you want to change first?"

She looked down at her outfit choice and frowned. "No. Why?"

Edward rose both of his eyebrows. "Well, you're in heels and shorts."

"Yeah... so?" She asked with crossed arms as she glared up at the tall vampire.

Bella shook her head. "Don't go there, Edward. She will literally argue for hours. She will not change her outfits for nothing. Plus, she can probably still kick your ass with those heels."

Maddie smirked. "Probably? I know I can."

Charlie chuckled loudly and looked between them. "Well, you guys better get going before the storm starts."

Edward and Jasper shared a look before nodding. "We promise to keep them safe, Charlie."

Their father looked at the boys with narrowed eyes. "You better or I'll shoot you both."

"I'll do it for you, dad," Maddie stated with a smirk before walking towards the door. "Come on. I really want to hit something."

And with that, they got in Edward's car and left.

THE SKY ABOVE grew darker as Edward's car came to a stop beside a huge open field.

Maddie sat in the backseat and looked out the window at the Cullen family, feeling a tightening in her chest.

She used to play baseball with Bobby, sometimes even when Sam and Dean came for a visit when she was younger. Obviously, once she learned how to take care of herself properly on the field, the less she stayed at Bobby's. But, when she was there, she loved playing baseball, so to see a huge family - even a vampire family - it made her heart hurt.

Getting out of the car, Maddie looked up at the darkened sky and frowned. "So, why are we going to play baseball in the middle of a thunderstorm?" She questioned, twirling the end of her pony tail around my finger.

Dropping her hair, Maddie tucked her hands into the back pockets of her black cargo pants, letting her gaze wander around the field

Bella had her brown hair thrown back in a french braid. Though, she had argued for a long time before she allowed Maddie to do it. She thought it wouldn't look good on her because her face was plain. But, the red head disagreed, and once it was done, Bella liked the look.

"You'll see." Alice grinned as she walked over towards them with Jasper by her side.

The blonde haired boy grinned at the red head. Finding him cute - even though her brain screamed at her that he was a vampire - she waved back sarcastically with a smile.

Thunder suddenly rolled across the sky and a smirk took over Alice's features. "It's time!"

Esme grinned widely and clapped her hands. "I'm glad you guys are here. We needed umpires."

"She thinks we cheat." Emmett laughed as he walked past the three females.

"I can see you cheating, Em," Maddie retorted with a snort before pausing. She just gave him a nickname which meant she was attached. Fuck. Imagine Dean seeing her right now, he would be so pissed.

The vampire playfully glared at her, before slowly jogging over to his position on the field. "Call them as you see them."

Bella and Esme crouched down by the home plate, while Maddie just stayed back to observe them all.

Rosalie stepped up to the plate, and got in position to bat. Alice narrowed her eyes and hiked her leg up, before throwing the ball.

Maddie watched with an amazed expression as Rosalie's bat met the ball, causing it to fly into the woods. "Now I see why you need the thunder!" She shouted loudly with a huge grin.

"That's gotta be a home run!" Bella said in astonishment.

Esme shook her head. "Edward's very fast."

Maddie was sure Rosalie was going to get a home run - she couldn't see Edward. But suddenly she saw a ball fly in from the forest and land into Esme's hands right before Rosalie's foot touched the base.

"You're out," Bella called out and winced as Rosalie shot Bella an ugly glare.

"Come on, babe, it's just a game!" Emmett shouted at his girlfriend, holding his hands up.

She rolled her eyes, and walked over to Maddie with the dirty glare on her features still.

Maddie rose her right brow back at her. "Nice hit, blondie. But, here's so advice, get rid of the stinky attitude, and then maybe you'll have some actual fun."

Carlisle was up next and winked at his wife who blew him a kiss. Maddie thought it was sickly cute, and it looked like Bella found it adorable.

Carlisle's bat hit the ball and he took off towards first base. She watched as Edward and Emmett both jumped for the ball, and she whistled loudly when they crashed into each other as Carlisle made it back to home plate.

Jasper moved up to bat next. He grabbed the baseball bat and started twirling it around like a professional.

"Show off," Maddie commented and he gave her a flirty wink which made her smile. Of course she knew he was suppose to be the enemy - or at least that's what Dean would say - but she couldn't help it. This group - this family - of vampires makes her feel more alive than she has felt since she got back from hell and Bobby's death.

Alice raised her leg and threw the ball, it blurring towards Jasper. Before any of them knew it, Jasper hit the ball just as thunder rumbled. Mads watched in awe as he ran to each base, trying to get to the home.

As fast a lightning bolt, Emmett ran off into the forest and after the baseball before Jasper could get a home run.

Before anyone could blink, Emmett was back and he threw the ball at Esme who was positioned at the home mat.

As easy as pie, Esme caught the ball just in time for Jasper to slide onto the mat.

Jasper stood up in a flash, an actual smile on his lips, and Maddie's lips involuntarily lifted. He had one of those lopsided smiles that made her heart do flips.

"You do know you lost, Jasper," Bella mused as she looked up at him.

"I know, darlin'." He nodded and walked towards Maddie who lifted her hand for a high-five. He chuckled and gave her one which made her smile brightly at him. "How are you enjoying the game so far?"

She shrugged and stuffed her hands in the leather jacket pockets. "This is the first time I have ever seen a supernatural group play a baseball game, so I think it's amazing. By the way, your form is amazing."

He smirked down at her. "I know it is, darling."

Maddie blushed slightly before turning her attention back to the hand as it was Edward's turn. Emmett was waiting to run, bouncing on the heels of his feet in excitement, looking like a child at a candy store.

Alice threw the ball with more force this time, but Edward easily hit it and began running for home run as Emmett zoomed towards the ball.

"Stop!" Everyone instantly stopped in their tracks and turned towards Alice who raised her arms with wide eyes. "They're coming."

Maddie's mind flashed to the recent deaths in town. Several people had been drained of blood. Whoever was approaching had killed them. Of course, after spending the other day with the Cullen's, she knew it wasn't them, but she has still been looking into it.

Edward and Maddie quickly rushed over to Bella seeing as she doesn't know how to fend for herself.

Edward went to pull her hair out of the french braid, but Maddie stopped him. "If her hair is down and a breeze comes through, they will immediately smell her scent. Keep her hair up. It will be easier to mask her scent." She masked her slight fear with a calm look as she grabbed her sister's hand.

"You lose something?" One of the three figures, asked.

There were two men and a woman. The man with blonde hair wasn't even wearing a shirt. His arm was wrapped around the redhead's waist. They tried to mask it, but I could see they were in love. The dark skinned man in front was the one I couldn't quite decipher. He cared for the other two, but he also held himself like he wished to be the leader.

"Yes." Carlisle stepped forward first, his body tense. The man in front threw the ball towards Carlisle who easily caught it. "Thank you."

"I am Laurent," he introduced himself before gesturing to his friends. "This is James and Victoria."

"I'm Carlisle," Carlisle hesitantly smiled back. "This is my family."

"Hello," Laurent spoke, his red eyes sparkling.

Maddie clenched her jaw as she looked between them, seeing the clear differences between the Cullen's and the nomads. And it wasn't just the red eyes, it was the way they held themselves.

"I'm afraid your hunting activities have caused something of a mess with us."

"Our apologies." He didn't care in the least. "We didn't realize the territory had been claimed."

"Yes, well, we maintain a permanent residence nearby," Carlisle commented with a head tilt. He was very calm, which Maddie soon figured out was probably a dangerous thing. She has seen the calm before the storm before in Dean and it's never a good thing.

"Really?" Laurent looked to James who had been staring them down, more specifically Isabella and Madelyn. "Well, we won't be a problem anymore. We were just passing through."

"The humans were tracking us, we led them east." They looked to Victoria who spoke up, "You should be safe."

Carlisle huffed before breathing in deeply through his nose. "Excellent." How can one have so much control?

Laurent forced a laugh. "So, could you use three more players?" No one spoke and the air became more tense. "Come on. Just one game."

"Sure." Maddie and Bella stared at Carlisle. Was he crazy? "Why not? A few of us were leaving, you could take their place. We'll bat first." He threw the ball towards the small coven.

Victoria caught it and smirked, her gaze locked onto Maddie for some reason. "I'm the one with the wicked curveball."

As Edward, Bella, and Maddie turned to leave, a breeze blew by them, allowing their scents to travel towards the nomads.

"You brought dinner and a snack? How nice of you." James stalked towards them, but the Cullen coven blocked his path. They crouched and began hissing at each other.

Maddie clenched her jaw and glared at the nomads. "You should leave," she warned, her voice loud and clear.

"A human... telling us what to do." Victoria laughed before turning to the only other red head with a heated glare. "How amusing."

"I can see that the game is over," Laurent spoke up, holding his hands up as he backed away slowly. "We'll go now." James and Victoria backed up as well, still slightly crouched.

When they were completely out of their sight, the group rushed back to the Cullen's house.
