MADDIE SPENT THE rest of the night in Bella's hold, and they had soon fallen asleep on her bed. Her head was laying on Bella's stomach as the brunettes hand was in her hair, and the other one was on her back.
On the way to work, Charlie had walked into the room to check in on Maddie, and was both shocked and happy to see the girls getting along. This is what he wanted since his little girl went missing all those years ago.
Hours later, when it was clearly after twelve in the morning, the girls woke up, groaning. Seeing as Maddie was sleeping in a cradled position and had her head on a skeleton like girl, her neck and shoulders hurt.
"God, you need to eat more food," Maddie complained as she pushed at Bella which made the brunette go flying off of the bed, landing with a loud thump. The redhead laughed loudly and rolled over, and seeing as she miscalculated where her bed's end was, she ended up falling flat on the ground, too.
"Karma!" Bella shouted with a giggled as she stood up and jumped on the bed so she could look over the edge. "How was the fall?"
"Amazing." Maddie gave her a thumps up before groaning and laying on her stomach.
Bella sighed and placed her chin in her hands as she stared down at her sister. "Can we go see the Cullen's?"
Maddie shot up at the question and stared up at her sister with wide eyes. "Why?"
The brunette thought for a second before rolling over into her back. "I want to hear it in person. I want Edward to understand, that even though we're two different species, I will stand by him, and I won't tell anyone their secret."
"Why do you want to stand by him?" Maddie asked with scrunched brows, standing up. "It's not like he has been the nicest to you or me. I mean, him and Jasper wanted us to think we were crazy rather than straight up admitting what we had seen."
Bella ran a hand through her hair before she sat up and swiveled around to face Maddie. "Think of it in his and Jasper's perspective. They are vampire's, Mads, and they were scared. Jasper had exposed their family. He were putting them all in danger for saving you."
"So, this is on me?" Maddie began pacing back and forth. Even though she knew that wasn't what Bella meant, she was reeling at the fact that Bell wanted to befriend a family of vampires. Vampires, one of the many monsters she hunts down for a living. "I know they said they're not bad, but I..."
"You have been through a lot," Bella said gently as she walked over to her, and looked her in the eyes. "I understand if you don't want to go. But, I am willing to find out more answers." She sighed and bit her lip. "I like him, Maddie."
"How do you like him?" The red head asked, genuinely. "You barely know him. When you have spoken to him, he lied, said weird things, and stormed out." She shook her head. "I honestly do not understand how people fall in love so easily and foolishly."
"Foolishly?" She asked with a tight lipped smile. "If you cared enough to come for a visit, you would know I never really had any friends, let alone any boys that took any interest in me. The only friend I did have, boys would go through me to get to her. Edward is at least giving me these tingly feelings I have never felt before. So, do not call me foolish for feeling something."
Maddie was shocked by how Bella actually stood up for herself, and then she grew sad as she realized the way her words sounded. "That's not what I meant, Bella, and you know that." She sighed heavily and turned to the full length mirror on the wall. "And for your information, I do know how you feel. I haven't made many friends, and when I did, they either died or I couldn't see them again due to my job." She recalled having a small crush on the one and only Jo Harvelle before the older woman had died. "I have never fallen in love and I don't think I will. I mean, look at me. I am a mess and a terrible person."
"You're not a terrible person, Mads," Bella told her softly and then got an idea that would lighten the mood. "You know what? I will let you dress me up before we go see the Cullen's."
"Who said I'm coming with?" When Bella simply tilted her head, she smirked. "Oh, alright. It's not like I was going to allow your clumsy ass to go to a house of vampires alone."
AS THEY APPROACHED the house of the Cullen's, the sisters looked to each other, swallowing thickly.
Maddie was wearing a high-waited red and black plaid skirt, and a black bralette under a see through black shirt that had cherries on it. She was wearing knee high red boots that had four inches of heel that made her taller than Bella.
The brunette on the other hand, was wearing black and grey high-waisted plaid pants, a white long sleeve with a bold tank-top over it, and black combat boots.
Maddie lifted a hand to the door and went to knock - only after Bella told her to not kick the door down. But, before her fist came in contact, the door opened, revealing Alice.
"I told everyone you were coming!" She squealed in excitement which confused both humans. "I know you have questions, and we'll answer them at dinner."
"Dinner?" Bella mumbled as they followed Alice into the house, up the stairs, and the first opening on the left. It was the kitchen. Big, bright, and beautiful. And the whole family was standing around in it.
"Nice to see you again," Carlisle said as he lightly chuckled at Maddie who simply glared at him. He frowned and noticed how she was favoring her left foot, the one she didn't use to kick Jasper. "Does your ankle still hurt? Maybe I could take a look at it, if you all-"
"No," she stated firmly, shaking her head. "I'm fine."
"Are you sure, dear?" Esme asked kindly which shocked Maddie. She stared at the couple with her mouth agape slightly. She has never met a family as kind as these vampires.
"I am sure," she told her, a little more kindly, but still firmly. She doesn't what to seem weak and give them a chance to hurt her and Bella. "I want to know how you knew we were coming, though."
Alice stepped forward, smiling. "I can see the future."
"You can what?" Maddie asked, shocked.
"It's only if the person has made a set decision," Jasper piped in, his southern draw more noticeable. The redhead turned to him and looked him up and down with an emotionless look on her face, not wanting to give away what she was thinking. But, he could feel her emotions and knew she was both confused and angry. She always seemed to be angry though, so it wasn't much of a surprise. "I am sorry about your foot."
She rolled her eyes. "I should've known kicking an unknown source was bad."
"Unknown?" Emmett chuckled lightly. "I had an impression that you knew what we were and that's why you came on here like a ninja."
Bella decided to speak up, "she wasn't even suppose to confront you last night. We were going to come here in the morning and do it together. But Maddie being Maddie, well, she came here unprepared and hurt her ankle in the process."
The red head rolled her eyes at her sister. "I'm fine." She then gestured to the table covered in food. "So, um... are we gonna eat or what?"
Bella laughed and shook her head at her sister. "I think you love food more than anything else."
"That's not true," Maddie denied before frowning. "Never mind. You're right."
Emmett laughed loudly, the sound bouncing off the walls. "I like you!"
"She's a human," Rosalie whispered harshly to him and huffed as she stared at the sisters. "I don't even know why they're here. Especially after last night."
"Well, blondie, we're here so I can deem you guys worthy. If I think for a second you will hurt a human being, I will end you all. I don't care that my sister fancies one of you. I will do what needs to be done so everyone will be safe." She took a step closer to the blonde vampire. "And for your information, I know how to keep a big secret. So does Bella. So, stop being a brat, and maybe we'll all get along."
Rosalie scoffed but didn't say anything else.
Hesitantly, Bella spoke up, looking to Carlisle, "Maddie says that you guys don't eat food. So, why did you make so much?"
Esme was the one who smiled brightly. "I love to cook but have no one to cook for. So, you two showing up gave me a chance to use the kitchen. Thank you for that."
Maddie walked towards a salad bowl and picked up a cut up piece of cucumber. "It all looks delicious." She shoved the cucumber piece into her mouth and nodded.
Bella shook her head. "How are you still hungry? You just ate breakfast."
Maddie shrugged and looked at the table of food. There was a dozen sandwiches, a salad, some soup, and a pie. "You made a pie!" She shouted excitedly as she stared at the masterpiece. "I'm adopting you. You're my mother now."
Everyone chuckled as they watched her take a seat at the table and grab the pie first.
"What did she eat before coming here?" Emmett asked, chuckling as they watched the red head just grab a fork and eat the pie right out of the holder.
Bella smirked as she began listing everything, "she had a stack of pancakes, and when I say stack, I mean like four with a ton of syrup and strawberry pieces. She also had two eggs, a whole thing of bacon. And when we were leaving the house, she grabbed a donut."
"Damn." Emmett whistled, impressed.
"Is that healthy?" Jasper asked, worried for the girl who seemed to always be angry and then eat too much.
"No, but she doesn't care." Bella shrugged and say down beside her sister, and delicately grabbed a sandwich. "It all looks good, by the way, Esme."
Esme was beaming as she leaned into her husband's side. "Thank you, sweetie. Dig in. And if you want to, take the rest home. It's not like we'll need it."
"Yes!" Maddie exclaimed with a mouthful of pie as she reached for a sandwich. "This is delicious. I think Charlie will love it."
"He will be glad just not having to cook," Bella commented and the girl's both giggled.
Jasper smiled as Maddie seemed to be happy for a few seconds, which resulted in him getting nudged my Edward who was reading his mind. He rolled his eyes and focused on Maddie who happened to look up at him at the same moment.
Immediately, Maddie frowned and narrowed her eyes. "I got a question of you, buddy-boy." Everyone turned to the blonde as he frowned. "And you, too." She pointed to Edward and rose a brow as both boys glanced to one another. "Why were you such jerks to us? I understand trying to get us off our trail, but you - especially you Edward - both kept popping up when we were ignoring you, said some mean and weird thing, got angry, and then stormed off. Just like at the field trip and the hospital. Both were so un-called for."
Bella looked up at Edward with her big brown eyes that sparkled which made him a stuttering mess. "Well, I... I don't know. I just got scared. And with Rosalie's constant nagging, I had no choice."
"Way to throw me under the bus!" Rosalie snapped but then sighed. "It's not my fault I was the only one looking out for this family and trying to see that we would survive."
"I understand that," Maddie spoke up after grabbing a glass of water. "I understand the need of wanting to protect your family no matter what. So, I don't particularly hate any of you."
"But, you hate what we are," Edward spoke up hesitantly, gulping once her dark eyes landed on his form.
"I have just been taught to hate monsters, to destroy them before they can destroy the earth. But, I have met a few good monsters, only as many as I can count on one hand. So, I believe you guys are good. But the moment one of you kills a innocent, or one of you threaten my family or someone I care for, that's when I'll snap."
"We won't do anything," Carlisle stated as he glanced around at his family. "We just want to be left alone and have a somewhat normal life."
Maddie nodded. "Let's hope you stick to wanting a normal life."
IT WAS ABOUT four hours later, and the sisters were still at the Cullen's. They had eaten most of the food, packed the rest, and was currently hanging out in the living room.
Everyone was watching Maddie play a video game with Emmett. The girl was jumping up and down in the seat, hitting the buttons harder than needed be, and Emmett was laughing.
Seeing as Emmett was had fast movements, he was ahead of her. But, even though he was faster, she went at it smarter, which resulted in her killing more of his team members.
"She's really good," Alice complimented as she stood beside Bella who nodded and watched her sister with a big smile. "I take that she doesn't do this often."
Bella bit her lip. "I don't think she ever had the time. It's not like I can tell, though, seeing as I haven't seen her in about seven years, you know, before a few weeks ago."
"What?" Edward looked down at the girl he had feelings for. "What do you mean you haven't seen her for seven years?"
"She was going on a school field trip when her school bus was attacked. And since that day, she was gone. She said she was at her bio mother's brothers house, and then she never came home." Bella knew the real story now, and she felt so bad that she didn't try harder to find her sister. But, deep down, she knows how stubborn her sister is and how she wouldn't have left the Winchester's.
Jasper felt the emotions that rolled off of Bella - anger, sadness, and guilt. Whatever happened with Madelyn, it wasn't good, and it only worried him even more.
"Yes!" Maddie's scream echoed through the whole house and they all turned to her with wide eyes. She jumped up on the couch, dropped the controller, and began dancing. "I won! You lost! I won and you lost! Suck it, loser!" She jumped off of the couch and began dancing widely. "I am the winner, biatches!"
Bella snorted so loud that it physically hurt her chest. This was the happiest and wildest that she has seen Maddie since she's shown up, and it made her so happy and relieved.
Maddie began pointing at Emmett who was amused with one brow raised. "I'm awesome and you suck!"
"I like this side of her," Alice giggled out as they all they watched Maddie ruffle Emmett's hair.
Bella couldn't help but agree, "I do, too."
