𝐀𝐏𝐏𝐋𝐄 𝐏𝐈𝐄 𝐋𝐈𝐅𝐄 𝐄𝐐𝐔𝐀𝐋𝐒 𝐍𝐎
it's all a bit tragic, really, isn't it?

FOR THE PAST few days, Maddie had spent them trying to get used to the normality of Forks.

She had been staying at Charlie's a lot, sitting in her room doing nothing after school, and on weekends she would spend them having long walks in the woods.

She still wakes in the middle of the night from her night terrors, sometimes even screaming herself awake. She's lucky that neither Charlie nor Bella hear her when she does.

Neither Edward or Jasper had been showing up to school. Maddie didn't know why, but she didn't dwell on the though too much.

Maddie was livid to find out about the supposed animal attacks happening near the area. She believed that the Cullen's or something like them were behind them. She knew, deep down, no matter how they appear, they weren't human. They just couldn't be.

She had spent most of her time in the past few days, whilst the two Cullen's were away, doing research. She had come up with a few theories, her main being that she believed they were some new type of vampire species.

Throughout school days, Maddie spent her time actually interacting with other students, more specifically Angela. And by interacting, that means only a few words here and there along with waves and nods.

She wouldn't go as far as saying she likes them, but she got along with Angela because she was really nice to her. She made Maddie feel normal and like she belonged, even though that was far from the truth. She would always put Maddie's feelings into consideration and listen to her.

The next day, Maddie walked beside Bella silently into their biology class, she paused for a second when she noticed Jasper sitting at a empty table.

As she walked towards the table, the only other empty seat besides the one beside Edward which Bella already took, she was curious on where the brothers had been. But, she knew it was none of her business, so she wasn't going to question them, especially since she didn't like when people questioned her about her life.

Maddie sat down in the stool beside Jasper, keeping her eyes towards the front of the class. She was hoping that he wouldn't try to start a conversation.

Luckily, he didn't, so the rest of the school day went splendidly. But, she had noticed the weird looks he was sending her, and the way a wave of calmness would hit her out of nowhere which had her more tense than to begin with.

MADDIE STOOD BESIDE Bella's truck, waiting for her, silently tapping her fingers against the rusted orange hunk of junk.

She had decides she would give her half sister some alone time with Edward upon seeing a genuine smile on her face when she was talking to him earlier. She wanted her sister to have some sort of happiness, especially since she, herself, can't have true happiness due to her life style.

Maddie is cut from her thoughts by the sound of a loud screech. It sounded as though metal was scraping against metal, and she quickly turned around to only come face to face with a black van skidding towards her.

Her breath got caught in her throat as she let out a strangled cry. Her eyes widened when flashes of her bus crashing came to the front of her mind.

She was too busy in her moment of panic to her the scream ripping through Bella's throat or the way everyone's eyes widened at the sight.

The van has steered closer to the frozen girl, when suddenly, a strong force knocked her back against Bella's ugly orange truck. She was pinned to the ground, an arm wrapped around her waist. Looking up, her wide dark eyes landed on gold ones that was attached to the one and only Jasper Hale.

She stared up at him, her breathing heavy, her eyes wide in panic as he pushed his hand out, pushing the van away. His hand leaving a large dent.

Maddie stared at the dent in disbelief, many things flashing through her mind, but the one thing that was at the top of it all, was that she was literally inches from dying. Again. She had died once before, of course she had, she's basically a Winchester, afterall.

Suddenly, the terrified screams of other students filled Maddie's ears. Amongst the screams, she could hear Bella's.

Maddie sat up, pushing Jasper away from her, gasping for breath.

"Calm down, darlin'," he whispered softly, trying to calm her down, but even his powers weren't working. She was still panicking, many close death moments flashing through her mind, reflecting in her eyes, making him even more worried.

"Maddie!" Bella cried out, finally reaching her sisters side.

Jasper quickly backed away and jumped over the space between Bella's truck and the van.

"Are you okay?" Bella asked, her brown eyes wide. "Maddie, are you okay? Maddie! Are you hurt?"

Maddie stumbled up to her feet and placed a hand over her fast beating heart. She quickly turned around, tears falling down her face. She took one step and tried to walk away from the accident when her legs gave out, and she suddenly fell to the ground.

"Oh, my god!" Bella gasped out, scrambling towards her sister. "Maddie!" She grabbed her sisters head, sobbing as her sister looked up at her with wide, panic filled eyes. "Somebody call an ambulance!"

Maddie turned her head to see the accident that she was just involved in, when suddenly, everything turned dark.
