The Story of The Runaway
Molly woke up with a start. She looked around her room for a moment before she sighed.
Molly: No zombie monkeys.
She threw her blankets off of herself and stretched. She looked at her clock and saw it was 7:00 AM. Time to get ready for her first class of the day. She jumped in the shower and washed herself throughly before jumping out and getting dressed. She walked over to her dresser and opened the top drawer where she kept her hats. Hmm. It felt like a yellow monster day.
She threw on her hat and rushed over to her desk where she turned on her laptop. Sure she was an Avenger now and everything, but she swore to Victor that she would go to college. It was online but it still worked for the former killer.
As she did her work, she looked down at her phone. She reached over and turned it on to look at her lockscreen. It was you and her back in Canada when she was first adopted by Victor. She swiped up and looked at the homescreen. It was of the other Runaways. She smiled. They were now all adults so she didn't worry too much about them. She locked her phone and got back to work.
It was about an hour later when there was a knock on her door. She closed her tab and shut her conputer off for the time being. She only had two classes today anyway. She walked over to the door and opened it to find Robbie standing there.
Robbie: Hey.
Molly: Hi. Come in.
Robbie smiled and entered the room. Molly had noticed that he seemed happier for some reason ever since he came back from vanishing for a week.
Molly: So what's up?
Robbie: The sun.
Molly rolled her eyes at his lame joke.
Robbie: I was bored so I wanted to see what you were up to.
Molly: I was just doing some work for my classes. Wish I was on a mission though.
Robbie smiled.
Robbie: Me to. Things have been oddly quiet for the past few weeks. No Hydra, no A.I.M, no stupid bad guys.
Molly: I just want to punch someone.
She turned to Robbie to give him the puppy dog eyes.
Robbie: No.
Molly: It's not like the Rider can't handle it. I would as Bruce but he's been missing for months now. Even Thor is MIA!
She looked down sadly.
Molly: I miss Thor.
Robbie: Right. Still not happening.
Molly sighed before she looked at Robbie's keys. He had a habit of spinning them around his finger begore catching them. Her eyes fell on a certain arrow charm.
Molly: How's things with Katie?
Robbie smiled.
Robbie: Great. You know, I never thought I would find a girl who could keep up with me. Seems like I'm trying to keep up with her most days.
Molly: I'm glad that the two of you are happy. I hope everyone is.
Robbie looked at his little sister figure as she fell deep into thought. His eyes drifted to the framed photo she had in her desk. It was of all the Strikers on the day you all left to New York. His eyes fell on you.
Robbie: What do you think he's doing right now?
Molly looked at the photo.
Molly: Probably something great.
----------
Valkyrie: I can't belive you took another pill.
Y/N: I can't believe it's not butter.
---------
Robbie: Yeah. Definitely something great.
Him and Molly smiled before Robbie sat up.
Robbie: Have you ever gave dating a thought?
Molly nodded.
Molly: It's weird but, when I was younger I never really thought about that stuff. I thought my Prince Charming would come out of nowhere and sweep me off my feet. After I found out what my parents were doing, I had bigger things to worry about.
Robbie nodded.
Robbie: And now? Anyone catch your eye? I promise to only beat them a little.
Molly: Robbie.
Robbie: Ok. I lied. I would beat them a lot.
Molly: Robbie! And no! I haven't found anyone I'm interested in.
There was a sudden crash outside and the two jumped up. They rushed outside and found Sam face down in the dirt.
Robbie: Uh...
Sam: Note to self, don't try to copy Iron Man.
He stood up and dusted himself off before he took off his helmet. He looked at the pair and waved with a cheeky smile.
Sam: Hey guys. I'm back.
Robbie: Bout time. Didn't know New Mexico was in that much danger.
Sam shrugged.
Sam: Skrulls dude. They were everywhere.
Sam had been away on a two month leave of absence to focus on his Nova duties by protecting Earth against the Skrulls.
Sam: Maybe I should get some rest. But at the same time, I want to play my Playbox 2. I missed having video games.
Molly got excited.
Molly: I'll play against you in Street Kombat! I've been getting better.
Sam smirked.
Sam: You're on kid!
Molly: I'm 18! I am an adult!
Sam messed with her hat as he laughed.
Sam: Sure you are. Come on. I'll beat you with my amazing Rainan skills.
Molly: Bring it on!
Robbie watched as the two of them raced into Molly's living space. He smiled before he realized that this was Sam and that him and Molly were just talking about relationships.
Robbie: What have I done?
---------
Robbie was now hiding behind a wall as he watched Molly and Sam talk as they at lunch in the lounge. He narrowed his eyes at the boy as he tried to hear what they were saying.
Doreen: What are you doing?
Robbie almost screamed at his friend's sudden appearance before catching himself and ducking back behind the wall.
Robbie: When did you get here?!
Doreen: This morning.
Robbie: No I mean, nevermind.
Doreen shrugged and joined him in peeking at the pair.
Doreen: Sooooo what's going on here?
Robbie: I accidentally planted the seeds of a possible relationship in Molly's head without realizing that her and Sam have been getting close.
Doreen: Oh.
She smacked the back of his head.
Doreen: Moron.
Tippy Toe and Monkey-Joe popped their heads out if her tail and looked at him angrily.
Robbie: I didn't know!
Doreen: Luckily I can hear them so I shall help you snoop!
Robbie smiled.
Robbie: Thanks Doreen. Even though you can be batshit crazy at times, you're very useful.
Another smack echoed through the hall.
Molly: And then I got a B on my last test.
Sam: Wow. I could hardly get a C in most of my classes. And that was in high school. I so do not miss that.
Molly laughed as Sam took a bit out of his sandwich.
Molly: I'm sure you could've been a good student if you tried. You're actually really smart sometimes.
Sam smiled.
Sam: Thanks kid.
Molly pouted.
Molly: I'm 18.
Sam: And I'm a Space Ranger. What's the point you're trying to make?
Molly swatted his arm playfully making both laugh. Robbie watched this and glared at Sam.
--------
Doreen: I haven't been to the movies in a while.
Robbie: I was here last night with Katie.
The two were sitting in the very back of the movie theater as Sam and Molly sat a few rows up. They had no idea what movie was playing but Robbie was going to be damn sure that Sam didn't try anything. The pendince stare was ready at a moments notice.
Doreen: Maybe you're looking too deep in this Rob. This is Molly we're talking about.
Robbie: I don't care. This is Sam we're talking about. Sam. I know him from Boys Night and have been his friend for almost three years. I know how he thinks and works Doreen.
Doreen: He's grown up since high school Rob. I doubt he's still the perv we used to know.
Robbie wanted to argue but she was right. Sam did kinda mature in the last two years. Maybe it was his new duties as a Nova officer or even his place in the Avengers. Maybe Robbie was just being over protective.
Doreen: What?
Robbie looked at her confused.
Robbie: What happened?
Doreen: I might have misheard Molly. I could've sworen I heard her ask Sam for a kis...
The two watched as Sam leaned closer to Molly and kissed her. Just like that, the popcorn Robbie was holding was up in the air and the man was lunging over the seats. Time slowed down as Robbie's hands reached for Sam's throat, Doreen leaped forward to stop Robbie from murdering Sam, Molly jumped back in surpise, and Monkey-Joe grabbed a flying piece of popcorn.
----------
You suddenly jerked up as your senses tingled.
Valkyrie: You good?
You looked around.
Y/N: I think, my big brother senses are going off.
----------
Robbie: Back it up a bit here! You two have been dating for how long?!
Molly: 7 months.
Robbie felt like he was going to have a heartattack. After being kicked out of the theater, the four made it back to the base where Robbie was questioning the couple.
Robbie: This morning you said you...
Molly: I lied! Why would I tell you something about this after what you said?!
Robbie: Because you are dating someone!
Sam: That someone is right here.
Robbie: You keep your mouth close until I give you permission to speak.
Across the room, everyone else watched amused.
Felica: Maybe I should step in.
Gwen: Or wait for a bit.
Katie: Maybe we should just let this play out.
Kamala: Yeah. I'm taking notes for a "overprotective brother Robbie" fic.
Miles: You really never stop writing, do you?
Kamala: Nope.
Robbie: I can't believe you didn't tell me about this!
Molly: I mean, no one else knew either.
Gwendolyn: I figured it out three months ago!
Molly and Robbie looked to Sam who shrugged.
Sam: I slip up sometimes. Sorry not sorry.
Robbie grabbed his head in frustration.
Robbie: I can't believe you kept this from me.
Molly: I don't see what the big deal is. I'm dating Sam. So what?! I'm happy.
Robbie: That's not the point here! It's Sam!
Sam: I'm still here.
Robbie: What if he tries something or does something?!
Sam: Dude.
Molly: He hasn't and won't. He knows I'll just kick his ass if he does.
Sam: You're both really pretending I'm not here.
Robbie: Watch your language young lady.
Molly: Why are you being like this?! You're not my dad...
Sam: Thank god.
Molly: And you're not my brother! I'm going to date whoever I want!
She stood up and stormed out while Robbie just stood there stunned by her words. He didn't know why but, hearing her say that he wasn't her brother actually kinda hurt.
Kamala: Wow. Real kick to the nuts. Totally writing this down.
Felicia: I, uh, should do something about this.
Doreen: Me to. I'll talk to Robbie.
Katie: I can if you want.
The girls shook their heads.
Felicia: This might be a Striker problem.
--------
Molly sat on her bed hugging the stuffed Monster plushie she had gotten from Sam as a gift. She wished the real you was here but you were away being a super cool Hero she was sure.
-------
Valkyrie: I swear I've seen that planet before. I think we're going around in circles.
Y/N: Maybe.
Valkyrie looked at you unamused.
Y/N: I've never been to Sakaar. Why am I even flying?
-------
She flinched when she heard a soft knock at her door. Felicia slowly opened it and smiled softly.
Felicia: Mind if I come in?
Molly nodded. Felicia opened the door all the way and entered before closing it.
Felica: You ok? You seemed pretty heated in there.
Molly just sighed.
Molly: Why does he always do that?
Felicia raised a brow.
Molly: He always acts like he's my brother. I'm an adult now. I can make my own choices.
Felicia smiled before she took a seat at the edge of the bed.
Felicia: He can't help it sometimes. You know how protective he can be. Ever since he lost Gabe, he's been without a family.
Molly: I know but, he's not my brother.
Felica: He's not trying to be. He knows you only have one. He just worries. It's who he is.
Molly buried her face in the H/C fabric of the doll.
Molly: Still. I'm happy with Sam. Shouldn't that be enough?
Felicia placed a hand on Molly's.
Felicia: He'll come around. Just give it time.
Molly nodded a bit. Her mind began to flash through everything Robbie had done for her since you took her in. The times she helped him fix his car, the times he would take her out for ice cream after she aced a test, even the times he would let her paint his nails. It finally hit her. He was her older brother. She just didn't realize it.
---------
Doreen: YOU APOLOGIZE!
Robbie: LET GO OF ME YOU FURRY!
Doreen pulled Robbie's arm back even further causing another cry of pain.
Doreen: I'LL BREAK IT! I SWEAR!
Robbie: AHHHHH!
----------
Robbie: Hey kid.
Molly looked up from her phone and saw Robbie leaning in her doorway with his hands in his pockets. Molly looked back at her phone.
Molly: Sam will be here in a minute. You sure you want to stick around?
Robbie sigher as he lowered his head.
Robbie: Look, about yesterday I'm...
Molly: Don't apologize.
Robbie: I am though. Because I was wrong and, ah, another reason you don't need to know about.
His eyes drifted over to the nearby tree where Monkey-Joe was keeping an eye on him.
Robbie: You're, happy with Sam. I should be happy for you. He's grown up since his days as a perv.
Molly looked at him with confused eyes.
Molly: Why were you mad?
Robbie shrugged.
Robbie: Because I, I kinda see you as a little sister. You remind me of Gabe so much that I worry about you sometimes.
Molly actually smiled at that.
Molly: I'm sorry I said you're not my older brother. I thought about it and, you are.
Robbie looked at her surpised.
Molly: All of the Strikers are my family. You looked out for me even after Y/N left. You stayed behind and joined the Avengers just so I wasn't alone.
She offered a smile.
Molly: Thanks, bro.
Robbie smiled back fondly with a tear threatening to fall.
Robbie: No problem, sis.
Molly walked over and the two hugged. Sam walked in and saw this before turning away. Best not to ruin the moment.
Robbie: Stop right there.
Sam froze and turned back to see Robbie glaring at him.
Robbie: If you hurt her in any way, shape, or form, I will pull your arm off and use it to tickle the wound.
Sam gulped before he got an alert on his phone. He checked it and looked viably confused.
Molly: What is it?
Sam: Nova Corp. They want to send me out on a mission.
Molly looked upset.
Molly: Another one? You just got back though.
Sam: I know but, it says that it's about an Earthling.
Molly and Robbie looked at each other surpised.
Molly: Do you think....
Sam: Without a doubt.
He tucked his phone away and looked at Molly.
Sam: I'm sorry but it looks like I'll be missing date night again.
Molly just smiled.
Molly: It's fine. Go get them space cowboy.
Sam smiled and kissed her head before freezing. He slowly looked over to Robbie who was glaring at him he sighed and tried to force a smile.
Robbie: Go, ahead, punk. It's, fine.
It didn't seem like it.
Sam: Good luck on your exams. I'll message you when I can.
Molly: Ok! Stay safe!
Sam: Likewise.
He left the room to get his gear leaving the two foster siblings alone.
Robbie: Maybe, he did grow up.
Molly: Yep. He's much more mature than you guys think. You know he secretly reads Edgar Allen Poe?
Robbie smirked.
Robbie: I do now.
Molly punched his shoulder and the two laughed.
