The Beginning 3/3

You opened your eyes at the beginning of a new day. It was now Friday. 4 days since you suddenly remembered memories of things that never happened. Or, maybe they did. You still weren't entirely sure. Things were still a blur but now you saw Laura and Robbie in your dreams. Clear as day.

Robbie: Bout time you woke up. Come on. Let's grab some coffee before class starts.

You looked over to your roommate and best friend. Robbie Reyes. The Ghost Rider. Formerly possessed by his evil Uncle's spirit before he defeated it and became a Sprit of Vengeance.

Y/N: Yeah. Let me get dressed first.

To recap this crazy week, you discovered that the weird dreams you had been having may not be dreams at all, you found out you had a bunch of powers, Laura and Robbie were revealed to have powers, you fought and killed a strange creature, and you were now about to take a test in math. Talk about a hectic week. So, yeah. You kinda needed coffee.

You and Robbie found yourselves walking through the courtyard toward the cafe. Ever since Robbie rediscovered the Spirit within him, he has joined you and Laura in training. Now you had a much better grasp on your power and you even taught yourself some new uses for them.

You both ordered some coffee, both of you had been drinking it black, and dragged yourselves towards the school. Along the way, Laura found you both and snatched your coffee away.

Y/N: Hey!

Laura took a big drink from it before she passed it back to you. She then shivered.

Laura: Ah~ That's the stuff.

You looked at what remained and groaned. You quickly drank the rest of it before you turned it to ash. Laura shot you a look and punched your shoulder.

Laura: Stop using your powers so carelessly!

Y/N: What does it even matter? It's not like anyone else is around to see me. Besides, what if seeing us use our powers helps other people remember these dreams to?

Laura: That's way too much of a risk. We don't know who even does have these dreams.

Robbie: Laura's right. Until we understand the situation better, we shouldn't be so relaxed about this.

You just sighed. You knew they were right but you still didn't see the point in hiding all of this. Maybe you should. You never knew who was watching you, after all.

As the three of you walked to class, you were unaware of the two separate figures watching you.

???: So, he remembers. This just made things a whole lot more fun.

The figure in the tree laughed to himself as his blood began to boil. He bit down on his thumb, drawing blood, with a smirk.

The other watched from around the corner. Her eyes stayed on you.

???: So, it's not just me?

Monster:
Lost Memories
-------------------

Widow taught class as you took notes. It was weird but, you weren't as excited for class as you once were. Instead, you just wanted to go and train some more.

The words "Superhero Syndrome" came to mind. No idea why, but they did.

Gwendolyn: Psst....

You simply held out your notebook. Gwendolyn took it and looked at you but you were already looking out the window. Ideas for new moves and training techniques ran through your head. Along with them, any memories you could see. Some with Robbie, some with Laura, some with both. Everyone else was a blur. Static.

Gwendolyn just shrugged at your odd behavior but this didn't go unnoticed by desk neighbor, Felicia, or Tandy. Both girls looked at you while you smirked.

Widow: And that's class. Everyone remember to do your homework over the weekend. I'll have your test results on Monday. Have a good weekend.

She stood up and got ready to leave, but she quickly threw a book across the classroom. Sam yelped before he ducked so that the book was flying towards you. You just smiled and caught the book without any effort.

Y/N: I'm pretty sure this counts as abuse toward students.

Widow just smirked.

Widow: Just making sure you were paying attention. See you twerps on Monday. Stay out of trouble.

Widow walked out of the room and you looked at the book. You've never seen this one before. "Frankenstein".

???: Strong, sharp, and hot. Quite a Frankenstein aren't you?

You blinked at the memory and sighed. This was seriously getting annoying.

Doreen: Woah! That was so cool!

You jumped at Doreen's sudden appearance next to you which caused you to throw the book into the air. Sam slowly raised his head from his desk, only to be smacked in the head by the book. Sam dropped his head back on his desk with a groan.

Doreen: Have you been working out? You haven't been using any protein powder, have you? That stuff is made to be addicted.

You just awkwardly smiled.

Y/N: N-No...I don't think it is.

Once again, Doreen begged you to buy her lunch to which you agreed to. Of course, Viv asked to join you. Of course, you said yes.

Tandy: Yo, Y/N!

You handed Doreen her food and looked over to Tandy. She was sitting with Tyrone, Nadia, and Viv today. You walked over with a wave. Viv took her seat and you looked at Tandy.

Y/N: What's up, Tiny Dancer?

Tandy: Don't call me that. You coming to the meet today?

The meet? Oh! The swim meet! So much has happened that you had completely forgotten about it. Ever since Nadia and Tandy joined the swim team, you made it a point to attend all home meets. Even some that were close. Today was one of the home meets.

Y/N: O-Oh. Yeah. Totally. I'll be there.

Nadia: Really?

You nodded and Tyrone noticed Nadia's cheeks grow a bit pinker. Even though she would never admit it, she tried her absolute hardest when you were there to watch. She always did her best.

Y/N: I'll get the pom poms and everything.

Tandy just scoffed and looked away.

Tandy: Put on the uniform and cheer for us like a real cheerleader.

Y/N: Don't push it.

Tyrone: I'll save you a seat. After that, we can go get some dinner at the Cafe. It starts at 5:00.

Y/N: Yeah. Sounds like a plan.

You talked to them for a bit before you returned to your seat. You sat down but your were surpised to see Felicia eating on her own. You took a quick look around the class and saw that Kate was gone. Must've gone out to get food with Robbie.

Y/N: Yo.

Felicia looked up from her phone and smiled.

Felicia: Hey. Did you get food.

You nodded and held up the sandwich in the plastic wrap.

Y/N: What's up? You seem oddly quiet the last few days.

Felicia just waved it off.

Felicia: Just trying to focus on school for once. What about you? Suddenly you're Mr. Cool Guy.

You just shrugged.

Y/N: I guess I'm just more awake. More, aware.

Felicia: Any particular reason?

Y/N: I've been training more. Working on my mind. Body, too. Figured it was a good time to start getting healthy.

Not a total lie.

Felicia: Is that why you and Laura are always around each other?

You looked at her as you took a bite out of your sandwich.

Y/N: Hm. She's been teaching me some judo her dad taught her. Some meditation techniques to.

Felicia smiled at you. Normally by now she would've teased you or made some kind of remark. She's really calmed down lately. Maybe something happened?

Felicia: That's good. I'm glad you're doing something that's good for you.

Y/N: Thanks. You still do yoga, right? How's that going?

Felicia: Good. It helps me relax. Especially after a hard day.

Y/N: I bet it does. Maybe I should give it a try.

Felicia: I'd be happy to teach you a few things, if you'd like. I could use a new partner now that my best friend is focusing on archery club.

You smiled and gave it some thought.

Y/N: Yeah. Sounds nice.
------------
Laura: Again!

Robbie: We've at this for two hours!

Y/N: He's burnt my arm, like, four times now!

Laura: You think the enemy cares?!

The three of you were once again on the rooftop of the school training. You had long since ditched your shirt and jacket while Robbie was still trying to get a hang of the Spirit. His chain laid on the ground next to him as he tried to catch his breath. Laura was just standing off to the side with her arms crossed.

Y/N: What enemies?! No one has tried to attack us and there aren't any reports on people running around with powers.

Laura: We have to be prepared for anything. You're the one who said you wanted to be able to fight back.

You winced when you recalled that conversation. Thinking back on it now, you should have picked your words better.

Robbie: What are we supposed to do exactly? Be superheroes? This isn't a comic book.

Laura: Doesn't matter. Go again.

Y/N: I have stuff to do. The Swim Meet is in half an hour.

Laura: Going to go cheer on your girlfriends?

Y/N: THEY'RE NOT MY GIRLFRIENDS!

Robbie sighed as he reached down and picked up his chain.

Robbie: Y/N is right. We all have stuff to do. I gotta work on my car before I forget what I was doing with it. Plus I promised Kate that I would help her with her English homework.

Laura looked at the two of you and shook her head.

Laura: Whatever. You two are so pussywhipped it's not even funny.

Y/N: Hey now....

Suddenly, something loud echoed through the air. The three of you walked over to the railing and looked out towards the city. Smoke was beginning to rise over the buildings over near China Town.

Y/N: That looks bad.

Robbie: An accident?

There were a few more loud echos which caused you all to suddenly worry.

Laura: Is this, an attack?

Robbie: What do we do? What if they have powers like us?

You gripped the railing hard enough to bend it.

Y/N: Doesn't matter. We have to help.

Laura: Are you crazy?!

You turned to her and the two flinched. Your eyes had a new fire in them. A new determination.

Y/N: People could be in danger. We have these powers so why the hell don't we use them for good?

Robbie and Laura looked at each other before Robbie sighed.

Robbie: Whatever. Let me grab my keys.

Laura: We'll need to cover our faces somehow. Can't let our identities get out.

You looked at your two friends and saw the same fire in their eyes. Slowly, you smirked.

Y/N: Then, let's go.
-----------
Nadia: Where is he?

Tandy looked up from her stretches to see that the shorter girl was looking over at the bleachers. Tandy's eyes fell on Tyrone, who was sitting alone. He was mindlessly looking through his phone but you were missing.

Tandy just returned to her stretches.

Tandy: He'll be here. The meet hasn't even started yet.

Nadia: I know but, he's usually early. You think something came up?

Tandy: No, Nadia. I'm sure he's fine. Hell, he might even drag Robbie along. Look. At least Tyrone and Quentin are here.

Nadia looked at the empty spot next to Tyrone before she sighed.

Nadia: Yeah. You're probably right. I'm sure there's nothing to worry about.
----------
Laura: Okay, this is pretty sick.

Robbie: I've missed the hell outta this!

The flaming car sped down the street towards the rising smoke. Laura took the passenger seat while you sat in the back. The closer you got, the worse the smoke looked. It really looked bad.

Laura: Okay, who's responsible for....

???: LET THE WORLD KNOE WHO DID THIS! THEY CALL US, THE WRECKING CREW!

Robbie turned the corner and four large men came into sight. One in green, one in white, one in yellow, and one in purple.

Robbie: We got ourselves some big boys to deal with.

Laura: Yeah, but you know what they say.

You smirked as you pulled your scarf over your mouth.

Y/N: The bigger they are, the harder they fall.

You launched yourself through the open window and ignited your feet. You blasted off towards the one in purple, the leader you assumed, and popped out your claws.

Y/N: Hey, you bullies!

The man turned around just as you slammed into the man's gut. The man went flying back as you landed on the ground. Robbie drifted the car to a stop and he and Laura stepped out as well. The three of you stood before the men.

Green: Who the hell are you?!

Robbie: The people who are gonna kick your ass.

Green: Yeah? You think you can handle my chain?

The green guy pulled out a large metal chain with a large metal ball attached at the end. Robbie just smiled as he pulled out his own.

Robbie: Depends if you can handle mine.

The two leaped at each other as you blasted up. You spotted the purple man getting back up and blasted yourself down to slam into him again. Laura popped out her claws and took a deep breath. The bandanna around her face made it a bit hard to breath but that didn't matter.

She charged forward at the man in white as he brought out his crowbar.

White: Bring it on, you bitch!

He slammed his crowbar down but Laura blocked it with her claws before she broke the hold. She then reached up and kicked the man in the jaw.

You rolled away from the man in purple just as the man in yellow charged at you. You turned around and slammed a frozen fist into the man's helmet.
---------
Announcer: Hello and thank you all for coming out today. Today is a very special meet between Midtown High and Visions Academy. We have quite the exciting line up for you all today. Now, allow me to introduce....

Tandy took her eyes off of the announer and looked over to Nadia. She seemed nervous. She always was before a meet. Tandy looked over to the stands to see that Tyrone was still alone. Tandy mouthed, "where is he" but Tyrone just shrugged. At least Quentin was here.

It wasn't like you to be late. Maybe something did happen.
--------
Green: Stay still so I can crush you!

Robbie dodged another swung before he grabbed onto the chain over his head. His hand heated up as the fire spread all the way to the man's hand. He let out a scream and let go of the chain which Robbie gladly took.

Robbie: New toy.

Laura, meanwhile, was still fighting the man in White. He swung the crowbar at her and she decided to take the hit. As the metal stabbed into her, Laura swung up her claws. The metal blades cut into the man's cheek which caused him to cry out in pain. Laura then leaped up and spun around to deliver another kick. This time, a metal blade appeared from her foot.

The blade stabbed into the man's shoulder which sent him to the ground in pain. Laura stood over him, victorious.

Purple: Stop moving!

Yellow: I'll crush you!

You flipped backwards to avoid their attacks before you landed. You reached out your arm and summoned some flames before you threw a ball of fire at the two men. While Purple dodged it, Yellow wasn't so lucky. He went flying back while you coated your arm in electricity.

Purple: You little....

Purple suddenly found himself bound by a large metal chain that burnt into his skin. He looked over to see Robbie standing there. He gave a two finger salute as you leaped forward with your charged fist.

Your knuckles collided with the man's cheek. The ball of energy erupted and knocked the man out cold. The three of you stood there among the four defeated men as civilians all gathered around. Soon, cheers erupted as many people pulled out their phones and started to take pictures of you and your friends.

Robbie: Uh, we should go.

Laura: I agree with the flaming Halloween decoration. This could get worse if we stay.

Y/N: Yeah. Besides, it's almost....

Your eyes landed on a nearby display which showed the time.

Y/N: I'm late.

Robbie and Laura looked at you as you grabbed your head.

Y/N: I'M LATE!
----------
Nadia did her breathing exercises as her race drew near. She looked up at the stands and saw two familar faces. Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne. Her father and step mother. That made her smile, at least. Right next to them was Viv too. Her nephew must be busy with his work at the university.

Her eyes then drifted over to Tyrone and Quentin. They were still sitting there on their own. No sight of you yet.

Tandy: You're up next. You ready?

Nadia looked at the taller girl and nodded. Right. She didn't need you to do her best. She just needed herself and her friends. Then again, they included you, too.

Nadia took her position at the edge of the pool and pulled down her goggles. Deep breaths now. She closed her eyes and relaxed her mind.

Y/N: GIVE THEM HELL, NADIA!

Nadia suddenly opened her eyes at your voice. She looked back over to the stands to find you, Robbie, Laura, and Tyrone ready to cheer you on. True to your word, you had a pair of your school's pom poms. So did Laura. So did Robbie.

Nadia looked over at you for a moment before she smiled she retook her position with a determined look. The whistle was blown, and Nadia dove into the water.

You watched her glide through the water at speeds you had never seen before. The four of your cheered her on along with her family and Tandy. She reached the end of the pool and flipped over to return.

She raced towards the end and ended up going neck and neck with one of the girls from the other school. Your heart was pumping from excitement as you watched Nadia near the end. At the very last moment, Nadia gained the lead and won.

You, Quentin, and Tyrone jumped from your seats and screamed out in excitement while Tandy jumped up with a squeal. Nadia pulled herself from the water and caught her breath as she processed everything. She felt so light going through the water. It was like she was flying.

Y/N: YEAH, NADIA!

Tyrone: YOU GO, GIRL!

Robbie: Good job!

Laura: You did great!

Quentin: H-Hell yeah!

Nadia's eyes landed in you and you saw the biggest smile ever as she pulled off her goggles. She raced over to you and jumped on you which you welcomed. Your clothes were getting wet but you spun her around anyway.

Meanwhile, Hank watched you with narrow eyes and a groan.

Janet: Be nice, sweetie. He's just a friend.

Janet then turned away with a smirk.

Janet: Or so I'm told.

You set Nadia down and smiled as you realized your clothes were drenched.

Y/N: That was awesome. Sorry I was a bit late. Uh, traffic was hectic.

Robbie: We went out to get you and Tandy some gifts.

You smirked as you pulled out two roses. You felt bad about being late but luckily one of the people watching the fight was a flower vendor.

You handed her one of the roses with a smirk and a wink.

Y/N: You killed it, Pym.

Nadia blushed as she took the rose. She looked at it before she giggled awkwardly. You just smiled before you looked over to Tandy. She was next. You gave her a wink and held up the rose.

Tandy: Damn boy. He doesn't know what he's doing.

She just smiled.

Tandy: One of the reasons we love him, I guess.
-----------
It was now nighttime at the Cafe as you sat among your friends. Tandy had won her race as well but Visions didn't win overall. Still, everyone was in high spirits. After changing and visiting with her parents, Nadia found you and the others in the crowd. Together, you all headed to the Cafe.

Robbie: Just saying, that last race was bullshit. Gerald totally won.

Tandy: Yeah but he started too early.

You took a drink of your (Favorite Soda) and smiled. Today was yet another long day but in the end, you were here with your friends.

Tyrone: Yo....the hell?

You looked to your left and saw Tyrone looking at his phone. You took a peek at it and your eyes went wide. It was the video of your fight against the Wrecking Crew. Has it gone viral?!

Nadia: Woah. That, that's real. Like, people really using powers?!

Tandy, Viv, and Quentin pulled out their phones and looked at the video. You, Robbie, and Laura looked at each other for a moment.

Quentin: T-They're like super h-heroes!

Tyrone: No way. It looks like something out of a movie.

You quietly sipped on your drink before you felt a hand tap your shoulder. You looked behind you and found someone standing there.

Riri: Hey.

Nadia: Riri, have you seen this?!

Riri: Seen what?

Viv held up her phone and Riri watched the video. You watched her for a moment before her eyes suddenly turned to you.

Riri: I didn't. Looks pretty cool though. Anyway, can I talk to you?

Everyone looked at you. You just shrugged.

Y/N: Sure?

Riri: Good. Follow me.

She left without another word. Everyone sat there for a moment before you got up.

Y/N: I'll be back.

You headed out of the Cafe and followed Riri around the back. This was a little odd for you. Riri was a science student who often spent time in the labs. You never really talked to her or hung out with her outside of class. Her wanting to talk to you kinda unnerved you.

Y/N: So, what's up?

Riri crossed her arms and leaned against the wall.

Riri: You've been having the dreams to, right?

Your eyes grew wide as Riri looked at you through her bangs. You froze up for a moment. Now that you were thinking about it, you saw Riri to. In the dreams. Those memories. Was she....

Riri: So I was right. You remember them to.

Y/N: Remember them?

Riri: Those memories. About a week ago, I only saw Laura. Then I saw you. Then Robbie. I pieced it all together when I saw you burn that coffee cup this morning.

So, someone was watching you.

Y/N: Yeah. I remember some of them. But, what was your power?

Riri sighed before she held up her hands.

Riri: I didn't have any.

Y/N: WHAT?!

Riri: I think I was an inventor. When I think about it, I had on this suit of armor. Red and yellow. I think that's what I used.

You tried to think. A suit of armor. Iron...heart....Ironheart.

Y/N: Ironheart!

Riri smiled at the name. The two of you looked at each other and smiled.

Y/N: Riri.

Riri: Y/N. So what do we do now, chief?

You smiled at the title.

Y/N: Now, we gather the others.
--------
Laura: So this entire time, you were one of us to?

Riri: Seems like it.

The four of you were on the roof of the school yet again. Night had fallen over the city and curfew was in an hour. Robbie and you hung to the side while Riri and Laura talked.

Robbie: Who would've thought Riri was a hero to?

Y/N: Not me. She always seemed to, nerdy.

Robbie: Says the biggest dork I know.

Y/N: Eh. You love me.

Riri and Laura turned back to you.

Laura: So, what do we do?

Y/N: That seems obvious. We fight.

Riri: Fight?

Y/N: There's bound to be more people like those guys today. Creatures too. If we can get our memories and powers, they can to. We can't let them hurt innocent people.

Robbie: So, what? We're a team now?

You just shrugged. Of course, you guys needed a name. For some odd reason, one floated around your head.

Y/N: The Strikers.

The three looked at you as you thought out loud.

Riri: What?

You looked up at them and spoke with more confidence.

Y/N: The Strikers. I think that was a team I was on. Robbie too.

Robbie thought about it before he nodded.

Robbie: Sounds about right. I faintly remember.

Riri: The Strikers? Kinda has a ring to it. I won't be much help without that suit, though.

Laura: We can worry about that later. For now, I'm dead tired and I need sleep. Today was rough.

You felt the same way. You could use some well deserved sleep.

Y/N: Alright. Let's call it a night. We can train over the weekend. I think we earned some rest.

The four of you stood there together, united, but this didn't feel like the first time. This felt like something you had done many times before. Oddly enough, you felt like you belonged here.

Y/N: Strikers, dismissed.

The four of you laughed and headed back into the building to return to your dorms. Unbeknownst to you, two figures watched the whole thing.

The two men stood side by side on the clock tower in the middle of campus. The figure in white narrowed his eyes at you while the figure in black crouched down to watch the other students below.

Black: I guess he found out, huh?

White: Yeah. This could be a problem. We should report it.

Black: Yes. We should.

White looked down at Black.

White: Are you suggesting we leave this be?

Black: For now. If things get too out of hand, we can always step in. Give them a nudge to the right direction.

White: No. We all agreed to do everything we can to prevent him from finding out about the Snap.

Black: No. You all agreed to it. I lost by voting. He deserves to know what happened. They all do. You and me both know it was matter of time anyway.

White looked down at you and your friends. You seemed so happy here. He really didn't want to do anything to ruin it. He wanted you to live your best life. That being said....

White: Fine. We won't interfere.

Black: Really?

White: Yes. However....

Black: Always a but with you.

White: However, we also won't led them to the answers. If they learn anything, it'll be by their own discovery. That's my compromise. No room for argument.

Black looked at his partner before he sighed and held out a hand. White shook it.

Black: Fine. I'll still keep my eye on them. For now, they should learn things on their own. Hopefully, if anything happens, they all remember.

White watched you walk towards the dorms for a moment. He finally turned away and shot out his grapple hook.

White: I'm sure they will. We did, after all.

With that, White swung off. Black watched your for a bit longer before he smiled.

Black: I can't wait to see what you do next, you little nerdsss.
-----------
You walked alongside Robbie towards the boy side of the dorms before you felt a hand grab you. You stopped and turned around which prompted Robbie to do the same.

Laura: Hey, can we talk? Real quick?

You looked back to Robbie who just shrugged. He headed ahead without you which left you and Laura alone.

Y/N: What's up?

Laura: I just...I just wanted to say thanks. For taking this as seriously as you have. And for not thinking I was crazy.

You just shrugged.

Y/N: We're kinda in this together. Besides, you're my friend.

Laura smiled. In the moonlight, she looked beautiful. Then again, you seemed to be surrounded by beautiful people. Suddenly, Laura wrapped her arms around you and hugged you. You were caught off guard, but you eventually hugged her back.

Laura: Seriously. Thank you. For the first time in a long time <sob> I feel so happy.

Your eyes grew wide at the sound of her crying. Instead of saying anything, you held her tighter. You understood what she meant.

For so long, you life seemed to be on repeat. Wake up, go to school, eat, sleep, repeat. You never realized it before everything happened, but you didn't feel like your life had meaning. Now....

Y/N: Thank you, for being by my side.

You and Laura stayed like that for a moment.

Felicia dryed her hair while Kate listened to her music on her headphones. Felicia was now dress for sleep but Kate had decided to dye her hair. Felicia was a bit hesitate about going grey, but it came out good.

As Felicia walked to her bed, she happened to look out her window. Imagine her surpise when she saw you and Laura. Honestly, her stomach dropped.

You finally let go of Laura who also let go of you. She wiped her eyes before she took a deep breath. She then punched your chest.

Laura: You tell anyone about this, you're dead.

You just laughed.

Y/N: Yeah. You have my word. Besides, why would I want to share this with anyone else?

Laura hit you again but neither of you could stop smiling. Once you both calmed down, you looked at each other. You reached your hand out and rubbed her head before you playfully pushed it away.

Y/N: Go to bed. You need sleep.

Laura: <Ha>. You're one to talk.

Y/N: Goodnight, Laura.

Laura: Night, Dork.

With that, you both headed in for the night. By the time you made it to your room, Robbie had already taken a shower and was in bed. You followed soon after and once again found yourself staring at the plastic star covered ceiling.

Robbie: The weekend is here.

Y/N: Yeah. Two whole days of trying to figure things out.

Robbie: This....doesn't suck.

You both laughed.

Y/N: No. No it doesn't.

As the two of you laid in your beds, you smiled. For the first time in years, you finally felt like yourself. Like you knew what you had to do. Like you had found purpose.

Elsewhere, in the middle of a field long since forgotten by time, a complex stood there. Vines grew along the walls and the once chrome metal was nearly rusted away. The faint "A" logo was almost entirely covered by the plant life that was retaking it's place.

Inside, a monitor blinked.
