Chapter 8
I dangled over Taehyung's lap, my hair brushing against the floor from the sofa we were sitting on in my apartment. My mother was still at work, and she wouldn't be home for another three hours, assuming that there was no traffic. Taehyung drummed his light fingers over my exposed stomach, where my shirt had rolled up in my attempt to backbend onto the floor.
"Sori, if you fall and crack your head open, I won't be able to convince your soul to come back to your dead body," he chuckled. His fingers were cold against my warm skin. I flinched at his touch, though I had gotten used to the drastic difference between our body temperatures a while ago.
I pulled myself back up to a sitting position with a groan, the back of my thighs still on top of his. I swung my legs off his so that I was in a regular sitting position again. The TV was playing some obscure drama with horrific acting, but it was still fun to watch.
"How does that work?" I asked. It had been three months since I had found out that Taehyung had a supernatural ability to compel others, yet I still didn't understand. "You just say something and people listen?"
Taehyung scrunched up his face. "I've... never thought about it," he admitted. "If I want something, I just put extra power in my voice, and it just happens."
"Kidnap T.O.P for me," I attempted, though my voice came out sounding like a constipated chain smoker. I coughed at the end, choking on my own rasp. Taehyung snorted.
"Shut up," he responded, and I felt my vocal cords shut down. With eyes wide with panic, I swatted at him in annoyance. "Alright, alright, speak."
"You piece of-" I began as soon as my lips unsealed.
"See?" He was grinning. "It only works with me."
"What the hell," I grumbled. "I wanna be a monster too... Could I get a vampire to bite me?"
Taehyung laughed. "What for?" he asked. "What would you gain from it besides having to hide it from the rest of the world?"
"For starters, I wouldn't have to hide myself at school," I answered with a sigh. "I could fit in. Plus, I'd have all these sick abilities, wouldn't I? I'd be better than a normal human."
He ruffled my hair playfully. "Oh please, Sori," he said. "You have it good as a human, you just don't know it. And anyways, Jimin would kill me. I promised him that I wouldn't ruin you."
"Ruin me?" That was odd wording. Was being inhuman really that bad? "What's going on between you guys, anyways? You seem to hate each other, yet you can still talk and agree on things."
"I have nothing against him," Taehyung replied indifferently. "The only reason that we argue is your safety. As long as you're okay, we're okay."
"Me?" I buried my face in my hands. "I'm not that important, am I?"
"Do I need to remind you that you're the only reason Jimin exists?" Taehyung chided. "You are his literal world, don't forget that. He'd do anything to defend you."
"And you?" I raised an eyebrow. "You're willing to go through an angelic bodyguard just for a girl?"
He shrugged. "I always get what I want," he replied casually. "There's no reason to stop now."
I rolled my eyes and shoved him lightly. Way to put it like that. Taehyung just giggled and rolled out of the way from under me, cowering at the other end of the sofa. I stared at him in half adoration and half confusion. There were moments like these when he acted like the opposite of a mind-controlling monster. Those moments were adorable.
"Taehyung," I laughed, "are you sure you're not a were-puppy?"
He started to bark and grovel into the sofa, and I shrieked out in shocked hilarity. I covered my face with my hands as I cracked up, and Taehyung began howling and pawing at the cushions. What an idiot.
I agree, said Jimin from inside my head with a high-pitched giggle. What an idiot.
Get out! I shouted internally, hitting my head for good measure.
Taehyung eyed me warily. "You okay?" he chuckled, raising an eyebrow.
I coughed. "Y-Yeah, I'm fine!" I answered.
