Chapter 1
"This your first day here?"
I looked up to see a wild, lopsided grin plastered onto a handsome face. Bright, enthusiastic eyes sparkled down at me, dusted with a fringe of dark hair that fluttered with the innocent blinks of his eyes. Long and slender fingers drummed to my hummingbird heartbeat on the wooden desk out of what seemed to be a habit. "I've never seen you before."
I snapped out of my momentary daze and nodded quickly, though that wasn't the appropriate response. "I just transferred today," I replied, a little flustered.
"Cool, well, welcome! I hope you like this school." The boy's smile grew even more, and with that, he turned and he departed. His hands found the insides of his pockets, and he strolled away, rolling his head as he did to stretch out his neck. I stared after him, dumbfounded, until he disappeared from sight, leaving the classroom.
Who was that?
"That's Kim Taehyung, the student bodies president," interjected a significantly higher male voice, as if reading my mind. I turned, bewildered, to see a shorter boy with cropped black hair seated in the desk beside me. He wore an expression bordering distaste, but when he looked at me, it disappeared and was immediately replaced by a friendly smile. "I'm Park Jimin."
"Hi..." My mind processed what he had said, and then I cocked my head to the side. "Student bodies? Don't you mean student body president?"
Jimin's eyes widened in alarm and he blushed, realizing his error. "Whoops," he giggled awkwardly, "my mistake. Having the dead bodies of students would be a problem, wouldn't it..."
"Uh, yeah, it would..."
"Anyways, what's your name?" He seemed eager to change the subject. I couldn't blame him. The conversation had taken an unexpectedly morbid turn.
"Lee Sori," I replied, almost as eager to continue with a new topic. "Uh, would you happen to know where the rest of my classes are? I got lost about seven times on my way here, and I'm not interested in doing it again."
I handed him my class schedule, and he scanned it over quickly. A corner of his mouth tugged up, and he arched an eyebrow in surprise. I leaned over, trying to see what had caught his eye.
"That just so happens to be my exact schedule," he commented, handing it back with a pleased expression. "Don't worry, I'll show you around. Just follow me."
I exhaled, relieved. "Thank you!" I gasped. "I was gonna be so lost."
"Yeah, if you have any questions, ask. This is my fourth year here, so I know more than I want to about this place." Jimin raised his eyebrows and widened his eyes in an unfortunate, knowing expression.
My mind wandered back to the attractive student body president. If I had a question, it definitely would be about him. His feline eyes, rosy lips, and suggestive expression had me wanting more, and I was determined to get more than one look again.
"The students here... The groups and cliques are kind of... standoffish, so I would avoid them if I were you," Jimin remarked, casting me an odd look. "Some are friendly, but I wouldn't risk it."
"Why?" I scrunched up my face in confusion. "Is bullying a problem here?"
Jimin tapped his desk madly as he searched for an answer, his eyes roaming across the ceiling. His fingernails were somewhat long, and they clicked on the desk in soft titters. His almond eyes flickered around as he chose how to reply.
"Uh, not really, but they like sticking to their own," he replied cautiously, stretching out his words as he thought of ways to phrase his thoughts. "So just avoid the large packs, and avoid people like Taehyung."
"People like Taehyung?" I wondered why he had anything to do with it. "What's wrong with Taehyung?"
"He just isn't a guy you want to get close to," was all Jimin could muster before the bell rang, signaling the start of the first class of the day. Jimin quickly turned back to the front in the desk, and the school day commenced.
Why isn't he someone I want to get close to? I asked internally, stealing a glance at my newfound friend. What isn't he telling me?

School had just ended, but I'd lagged behind with many other students to continue studying at the campus library. There was much I hadn't understood in class, and so I felt that it was better to just remain at school, where there were people and teachers to ask. With that in mind, I found myself an empty table behind a set of shelves in the corner of the library that wasn't very occupied.
Pulling out my books and binders, I flipped through the pages to find my spot, humming quietly to pass the time. It was a sweet tune, one that was familiar to me, so I hummed it with delighted confidence. When I found my page, I stopped, sighed, and began to read the brain-frying material. The words seemed to bounce off my retinas, and I groaned in frustration.
"Hey, why'd you stop?" I looked up in surprise to see the student body president himself emerge from the aisle between two bookshelves. Of course it was him--no one else I knew had such a warm and heavy tone to their voice.
My cheeks burned. "You heard?" I asked incredulously. "Did I disturb you? I'm sorry."
"No, you were good," he replied, walking closer to my table casually with his hands tucked away in his pockets. "I wanted you to continue."
"Oh." I suddenly felt so awkward in his presence, like I was obviously inferior to him, which I was. "Thanks?"
"You're welcome. So, what's your name? I don't think I ever got to introduce myself this morning. I'm Kim Taehyung." He smiled friendlily, and I felt compelled to do the same, but it felt uglier on me, so I wiped it off my face and replaced it with a mildly pleasant expression.
"Lee Sori," I answered as cordially as I could manage. "I heard you're the student body president?"
Taehyung beamed. "I am," he answered proudly. "I'm also a part of the school choir, which you should join. You have a really pretty voice, you know."
I chuckled nervously. "O-Oh, um, thanks," I said, wringing my hands under the table. "I was thinking about it, but-"
"Sori!" I suddenly found Jimin wedged between Taehyung and the table, an extra-cheery smile painted on his face. Where did he even come from? "I have something really important to talk to you about! Excuse me, Taehyung."
"Oh, I guess I'll see you around, Sori." With a light wave, Taehyung raised his eyebrows and turned, walking back into the aisle and disappearing around the corner.
"Jimin, what-"
"I meant it when I said to avoid people like Taehyung," Jimin whispered, looking me dead in the eye. His irises showed a hint of panic. "He's bad news."
"What are you talking about?"
Jimin sighed. "I can't get into it too much, but just know that he's... manipulative... and takes advantage of girls all the time." His eyes were sky-cast as he tried to find the right words to say to describe the class president, just like before. "Just try to not get involved, will you?"
"O-Okay..."
