The Calm Before The Storm
Y/N Creed was a homeless child for most of his childhood. He was freed from the underground AIM laboratory where the Ten Rings experimented on him. After running out of options, he became the partner and friend of one Felicia Hardy aka the Black Cat.
Decided to become a hero, Monster left Black Cat and joined the Program, a team for young heros watched over by Black Widow, where he befriended many members. Though briefly reunited with Felicia, the two once again parted ways to pursue their own paths.
Along the way, Monster found himself in direct conflict with Taskmaster and the Ten Rings. After the lost of his brother figure, Venom, he left with a young Scarlet Witch to find his father, Victor Creed.
Their quest ended up taking them to Burns, Alaska. A town that both exists, and doesn't. It sits in the center of the universe where many Doorways are opened to multiple universes.
Monster recreated his parent's team, the Strikers, by recruiting fellow young misfits. These included Robbie Reyes, Laura Kenny, Tandy Baldwin, Tyrone Johnson, Molly Hayes, Doreen Greene, and a young Loki.
After cementing their place in the superhero community in both actions and politics, the Strikers found themselves being visited by a Laura from a ruined universe that existed long before theirs.
And now, war is coming by way of the Cabal. A team of evil superhumans formed by Taskmaster.
Strikers: Monster, Ghost Rider, Wolverine
--------------
You took a deep breath and slowly let it out.
You repeated the action a few more times while you allowed your mind to go blank.
You needed to focus.
You needed to keep your mind clear.
The forest was quiet. There was no human life around for miles.
It took you a while to find a place secluded enough to meditate. A lot has happened over the last month or so. Or, whenever it was that this alternate Laura appeared.
War was coming. You knew it was. Hell, it's been coming for ages now. Ever since Taskmaster first killed the Old Man.
Ever since you escaped from that lab.
Ever since they tried to use Felica and Cat to get you back.
It was incredible to think that you got involved in this great war only two years ago. When you were just a thief on the streets.
Back shen you had...
Felicia: Y/N?
Your eyes shot open at the voice. No one was near you.
You were alone here.
You were.....alone.
Y/N: Damnit.
You relaxed your posture and released your breath. A lot has changed.
Between leaving the Program, finding your father, rebuilding the Strikers, and even a second mutation, you had been busy. So busy that you didn't even realize it was your birthday a month ago.
17 years old. What a trip.
Still, you had a lot more to do. Enough to keep you busy for a while.
Starting with leading the Strikers against the Cabal.
You got to your feet and stretched a bit. The sun will be up soon. That means everyone should be waking up within the next hour or so.
Should be enough time for you to wall back to the Manor.
Should be enough time to think.
Monster:
Cabal War
Part 1:
The Calm Before The Storm
You sat on the bottom step of the Manor as you waited for the others to wake up. Either that, or for something to happen.
Anything, really.
It seemed like that was all you were doing these days. There's no new Doorways opening and no news on the Cabal. That means that they were either laying low, which you doubted, or they were planning something, which was much more possible.
But the one thing that you couldn't quite grasp was just how far the Cabal's influence reached. Were they everywhere? How many members were there?
When will they attack?
What was their plan? Why did they want you? Could the Strikers really take them?
When will they attack?
Who will be caught in the crossfire? How many innocent lives will be lost? How many prisioners did they recruit after the breakouts?
When will they attack?
When will they attack?
Y/N: When?
Laura: When will you sleep? Soon, hopefully.
You lifted your head just as she sat next to you. She just breathed into her hands to try and keep them warm. You turned back to the view of Burns down the hill.
You both sat there in silence, just enjoying the cold air. The smell of the sea was something that you both could smell well. It was part of your mutation, you ththink.
Laura: You know, as much as you annoy the hell outta me, I'm starting to get worried.
You smiled.
Y/N: Aww. Always knew I would break through that hard, cold, depressing shell of yours.
Laura: I'm being serious.
She turned to you and you realized she wasn't lying. Her face was dead serious. Your smile slowly faded as you sighed.
Y/N: Laura...
Laura: Ever since that other me showed up you've been getting more and more distant. You've been training on your own and going off into the woods and...
Y/N: I go in the mornings so that I don't bother anyone. And I train alone since.....
You looked at her and thought about your next words very carefully.
Y/N: Since....I need to train all my power.
Laura knew what you meant. You were a Godslayer. Someone who had the power to slice up Celestials and old gods. No one on the team could really face you outside of maybe Wanda and Robbie. And even then, it wouldn't be easy.
Laura: I get it. Just.....try to take it a bit easier.
Y/N: I can't afford to. You know that. The Cabal can attack at any time and this Thanos guy could show up when we least expect him. There's no time to take it easy.
Robbie: I agree.
You and Laura turned around to find Robbie standing behind you both. He had a cup of coffee in his hand and was using his flames to stay warm.
Ever since the older Laura showed up, everyone has been getting better at finding new ways to use their powers. Robbie could create flames without fully transforming now.
Laura: You agree that he shouldn't take it easy?
Robbie just shrugged.
Robbie: I agree with whoever I don't have to fight.
He took a sip of his coffee.
Robbie: Speaking of which, Molly and Doreen have been arguing with me regarding getting a teleporter installed at Avenger's HQ. No idea why.
Y/N: Molly wants to steal one of Tony's helmets.
Laura: Why can't she?
Y/N: They're all connected to a very powerful and very large arsenal of weapons.
Laura/Robbie: Noted.
You sat there, with your two co leaders, and tried to enjoy your morning.
X-23: Maybe she should have one.
You all looked up to see the woman who had taken over your training over the last month or so.
You watched her fly down before she slowly changed back to her "mortal" form. She mostly resembled an older Laura.
Y/N: What are you doing?
X-23: I have to use this power every once and a while so that it doesn't fade from staying dormant for too long. Something that you taught me. Or....my version of you.
Right. She was from a world where you went in a similar journey. Although, from what you had gathered, your journey had started to branch off in certain areas.
This other Laura had seen it in your eyes when she first appeared. You were stronger, both physically and mentally, but you were much more damaged on the inside. She slowly started to learn why.
You had lost too many at a young age.
You had given up and sacrificed.
You were Monster, but you were still learning. Still making mistakes.
X-23: Can we speak?
Laura and Robbie looked at each other. Robbie shrugged and offered Laura a hand. Once she was up, they both started to head inside.
Laura placed a reassuring hand on your shoulder as she walked passed you.
It was now just you and this other Laura. Or, X-23 as you called her to not get her confused with your Laura.
X-23: How are you doing?
Y/N: Well. I think I managed ro get enough strength to not have my body get torn apart when I use my Manhattan Armor and...
X-23: I meant mentally. Emotionally.
You looked up at her. You then lowered your head and began to rub your hands together.
Y/N: I'm fine.
X-23: You really expect me to believe that?
You did.
X-23: You were about to tell me about your powers and strength but when I ask about your mental state of mind, you just say "I'm fine" and expect me to believe you. You're more like my Monster than I thought.
Well, you were both Godslayers. Monsters.
Y/N: I'm getting worried. Every day the Cabal doesn't act, every day that we don't stop them, they grow stronger. We don't even know what we're dealing with.
X-23: Criminals. Villains. People who need to be stopped. What more do you need to know?
You didn't even know anymore. You ran your fingers against the rune markings that were still carved in your skin. The only real source of magical power that you had.
Y/N: I just don't want to see anyone I care about get hurt.
X-23: This is a war, Y/N. People are going to get hurt.
You knew she was right. You were young, not dumb. And even then, you had done quite a bit of growing up over the last two years.
X-23: Look, I get it. I had to watch a lot of people I care about die. It's awful, but your team needs a leader right now. So far, you've been doing a hell of a lot better than my Monster. I mean, you got it in with some pretty powerful people.
Y/N: We have teleporters around the world in case there was any threats that could be world ending. Sorry to say, X, but I doubt the Strikers will be needed in Avalon or Wakanda anytime soon. Plus, Thor is still denying us entry of any kind into New Asgard.
Yeah, Thor was still pretty upset over Loki and Amora still. How odd that you used to look up to him. Now, he just seemed like a man child throwing a fit.
X-23: Not everything will go your way. You know that.
Y/N: Of course I do. Trust me, I do.
Laura stared at you for a moment. Her eyes landed on the chain of rings that hung from your neck. The wedding rings to her Monster's wives.
X-23: Is it something else?
You looked at her confused. You realized that she was looking at your necklace. You quickly pushed them back under your shirt before you stood up.
Y/N: No. It's nothing.
You started to walk past her but she followed.
X-23: I don't believe that for a moment. If there's one thing that's consistent with you and my Y/N, it's that you're both horrible liars.
Y/N: Would you stop doing that?!
You stopped and turned back to her. She just crossed her arms.
X-23: Stop doing what?
Y/N: Comparing me to your Monster. I'm not him.
Laura was about to say something, but she stopped when you both smelt something foul in the air. You looked around as you covered your face.
Y/N: What the hell?
Was that sulfer?
Your eyes grew wide as you looked up at the sky.
It was rippling.
Y/N: Holy shit.
You turned to Laura.
Y/N: Get everyone out here and ready to fight! Now!
Laura nodded and headed back towards the Manor. You clenched your fists and brought out your claws before you held them up.
The last time something like this happened, an evil version of Gwen appeared. You had no idea who was going to show up this time.
The clouds began to swirl around before the sky slowly turned to purple.
Y/N: Bring it on.
Your senses went off, but you had no time to react. You were suddenly hit by something powerful flying right through your shoulder.
You cried out and stumbled back as you held the now bleeding wound.
Y/N: Ah!
???: Oh, how cute. I forgot what you looked like before the war.
You looked up to see a single figure standing ontop of a tree. Your eyes grew wide when you saw that it was someone you knew.
Lady Doreen: Hello there, Godslayer~

This Season On
Monster
Y/N: You're being a damn fool! We have to band together before it's too late!
Thor slammed down his mug before he turned to face you.
Thor: You approach me for my help after you allow my mistake of a brother and that evil witch onto your team? And then you call me the fool.
----------
Cat: I never wanted to hurt you. I never wanted any of this. But I chose my family.
Y/N: There was a time I was your family.
You and Cat stood across each other, the storm of gold and destruction was the backdrop of your fight.
Cat: I know. And I still love you.
She activated her staff.
Cat: But I can't let you stop me.
-----------
Robbie: We need to act now or all of New York is going under!
Tyrone: We need Y/N. We need Wanda. We need someone!
Loki smirked as he summoned his scepter.
Loki: Why, my dear friends, you have me.
----------
Saturnyne: You are a wise leader, Creed.
You watched as she walked back to her throne. She sat upon it and looked at your team.
Saturnyne: You have a powerful team as well. So I will offer my aid in exchange for something that I desire.
You figured as much.
Y/N: Very well. What do you desire?
Saturnyne smirked.
Saturnyne: Your hand in marriage.
------------
Taskmaster: You will be the one to save this universe, or burn it to ashes.
You watched as he tapped his chest.
Taskmaster: After all, it was what you were made for.
--------------
The snow suddenly stopped feeling cold. Your whole body grew numb as you stared at the horror that was before you. Everyone else was in shock, covering their mouths and trying to look away.
But you stood there, numb.
You could feel something inside of you crack.
--------------
Robbie: Y/N!
You slowly lowered your hand as the streak of light got closer and closer.
Robbie: I'm taking you down!
You did not say anything. You did not react. You just floated there as Robbie flew towards you.
And just like that, your destiny together began to end.
Because the day you two crossed paths, one of you had met the man who would kill the other.
