There's Always A Catch, Isn't There?

I'm so sorry for the wait just trying to figure out where this story is going. I really hope you like it! I don't own any of the characters in this fanfic.

Nico POV

The other humans stared at the elf-like one, some in disbelief, others in amusement. Nico blinked, trying to turn his eyes back to their usual dark brown. He knew he looked scary, covered in the dead monster's remains.

"You saved us!" Will said happily, standing up in his bubble and smiling so bright the sun itself would be envious.

Then Nico realized- Will was smiling at him. The sea monster. It made Nico's stomach flip, and suddenly, he had a feeling in him that he almost didn't recognize. Almost.

"Th-thank you," said another boy, one with Asian features.

Nico put on his blank face, which was quite the contrary to how he was feeling inside. "Of course. I can't have you dying, can I?"

"Well if you didn't want us to die then why are you starving us and keeping us prisoner?" asked a girl with dark brown hair done to a braid down her shoulder. Nico had to admit, that human was brave to speak up to him like that, though he would never actually do anything to them. Unless they were really annoying.

Nico had to think about her question. He couldn't let them leave. Something about this group of teens was doing something to him, making him less of the monster that's been eating away at who Nico really was. Though the girl did have some good points, if they died of starvation, what would be the point of keeping them down here?

But he just could not go back to how it was before. Crying himself to sleep every night, wishing the pain would end. He thought of ways he could stay with them. He could go into town every night and bring them food. That would work, but he certainly didn't want to keep these people away from their families forever. He didn't want to separate them the way he had been separated from his family.

He continued thinking, until he thought of an idea. He sniffed the air, took in the scent of the humans. He waited, and nothing happened. He wasn't hungry, he didn't feel like he was losing control of himself. He continued thinking, if he wasn't drawn to a human's scent around these teens, then he just came up with an idea that solved both of their problems.

He turned back to the humans. "I'm not going to keep you prisoner, you will all get to go on land some time either today or tomorrow," all of the human's faces broke out into smiles. "Ah, ah, ah, but here's the catch: You're taking me with you."

Their smiles all faded.

Will POV

Hearing that Will and his friends would be able to go home soon, that was great. Having to take the supposedly human-eating monster with them, not so much.

Don't get him wrong, he was totally all for the fact that Nico might not be as terrible as he seemed. But taking him on land? What would he even do? How would you hide his dozens of tentacles? Or his fangs? Or his claws? Or when his eyes turned red? Will wasn't typically one for suspecting the worst from people, but what if it was all a plan just so he could eat more people?

He decided to keep calm, he didn't want to anger the boy, even though he doubted Nico would hurt him. "Um, just asking, don't you think people would notice that you're not...um, human?"

Nico rolled his eyes, and snapped his fingers. There was a bright flash, and suddenly, instead of the boy with tentacles he saw earlier, it was just a regular boy. His top half still looked the same, but now he'd lost his fangs claws, and anything else remotely supernatural. He even had human legs...

With no pants.

Almost instantly, every teen in the room averted their eyes.

"I can change my looks at will," then, seeming to realize that Will and his friends were either looking away, closing their eyes tight, or had their head in their hands, his voice changed to one of curiosity. "What?"

"Um, pants?" Hazel said, completely turned around, fanning her face.

Will could practically feel Nico rolling his eyes. "Right," he said boredly, Will heard another snap, and another bright light. "Alright. You may look."

Will turned around to see Nico in plain black skinny jeans. He wasn't wearing anything else, though. He was still gorgeous.

He heard the boy mutter something about humans being "so odd" and "jeans are terrible. How do people stand them?"

Will still wasn't a hundred percent sure on what was actually happening, but got the jist of it. They were going back home, but so was Nico. Whether that was a good thing or bad thing, well, he has yet to find out.
