Will POV

Will wanted to say something, maybe some comforting words...but his mouth just hung open. So...Nico was cursed. All because he was born? How sick are these people? It’s not like Nico was threatening them, or had done anything wrong! It made no sense, and made Will angry. He was just a kid! How could anyone be that cruel?!

Will looked back to Nico to see he had turned off the projection, and was simply holding the small ring close to his chest. He was shaking, his lip trembling and tears running down his cheeks. Will wasn’t dumb. Terrible things had happened because of those idiotic monsters...they’re the ones who where at fault! Not Nico, it was never Nico.

“Neeks…” Will said. “It’s not your fault. It was never your fault.”

“But-”

“No! It was those idiotic monsters and their stupid rules! Nico, you never did anything wrong, it was never your fault,” Will said, his last sentence calmer.

“But if my parents had just never had me...my sister, Mama and Papa...they would all be alive,” Nico said, his voice shaking just as much as his body was.

“No, all of this could have been easily prevented if those stupid rules never existed!” Will said. “Why do those rules exist anyway?

“I...I don’t know. Most likely because crossbreeds are more powerful than regular monsters,” Nico explained.

“So they cursed you? That’s just immature!” Will said through clenched teeth. “Isn’t...isn’t there a way for you to be uncursed?”

“I don’t know. I’ve tried regular spells and stuff, it never works,” Nico said quietly.

“But what if we go to the monster world...or something? Surely they have anti-curses and stuff!”

“No!” Nico yelled, his panic clear on his face. “If I ever go back...they’ll do something worse to me.”

“But surely those people are dead already! Nico that was hundreds of years ago,” Will assured, taking Nico’s hand in his own. “Maybe there’s a potion or a spell to hide your scent or something…”

“Will…” Nico said, his voice dying in his throat. “What you’re trying to do...it’s too dangerous for a human. You’ll get killed or hurt. I... you don’t need to risk your life for me.”

“I know that but I will. Just think, if this works, we can save this town. You won’t have to...you know....ever again!” Will pleaded. “I want to do this. I want to help you. Please. Let’s break your curse.”
