Nico POV

Nico cried in his cave. He banged on the walls until they shuddered, on the edge of breaking. He screamed and shouted, he killed anything that moved.

He was angry.

He was frustrated.

He was miserable.

He was alone.

And most of all, he hated himself. He wanted to rip himself to shreds, he wanted to lie on the floor and die. He wanted to bruise, to bleed, to feel any sort of pain. He just wanted it all to end…

He just wanted to leave...go far, far away and never come back. He wanted to stop suffering. He wanted to die, he wanted to disappear and become nothing. He just wished he’d never been born.

All those hundreds of years ago...those monsters were right. His whole family would have been safe, they would have lived, if he’d never been born.

He put them into danger. It was all his fault. He’s ruined their lives and he’s gotten to live. It wasn’t fair. Why did they have to die? It should’ve been him. He was the burden. He was the evil one. He was the murderer.

He was a curse to anyone and everyone around him. If he could just die…

He cried out in anger. Why? Why?!

He just wanted his questions answered. Why did the universe hate him so much? Why was the world against him? Before...before they died, he’d never done anything bad in his life. His parents were always nice and caring.

And Bianca…

None of them deserved this…

That’s when he heard movement in the water. His head snapped around, and he saw a figure in the entryway.

A human.

He reached out one of his hands, and a single one of his tentacles stretched out and grabbed the figure.

His eyes turned red, but not because of hunger. No, no, he was angry. So, so angry. And this person was an idiot for coming down here.

He pulled the person closer, and the closer they got, the odder they seemed. Something about the way they smelled, their figure, the way they held themselves.

It all felt familiar.

And finally, when he pulled the person completely in front of him, he recognized them. They were wearing swim gear that covered most of their hair, but those sky blue eyes were so obvious.

Nico only faltered for a second, his eyes only flashed back to brown for a moment, before it all came back full force. He squeezed Will with his tentacle harder, hearing him wince in pain. But the blonde haired human didn’t struggle against him.

“What are you doing here?” Nico demanded, his voice somehow echoing throughout the cave. His face was curled into a snarl.

“I-I came to find you,” Will answered, gasping for breath. His face was covered by his swim gear, but Nico could hear him perfectly.

“What do you care!?” Nico yelled. He threw Will against the wall. The human groaned, his breath ragged. “You are foolish to risk your life!”

“I’m not scared of you, Nico,” Will said through shuddering breaths. He cried out painfully as Nico threw him against another wall once again.

“Are you scared of me now?! You should be scared! I-I’m a monster!” Nico yelled, tears streaming from his red eyes.

“Nico, stop it, please,” Will yelled, holding his sides, his face contorted in pain. “This-This isn’t you. You need to calm down please.”

“Why should I?! What would that help! Everyone already knows I’m a murderer...It’s my fault…” his voice faltered once again. But then, he growled furiously. “You never wanted to help me. You’re scared of me aren’t you? Aren’t you?!”

“I’m not scared of you,” Will said, his voice strong despite him being weak.

Nico screamed in anger. Why was Will lying to him? He...he never really cared, did he? At least that’s what he told himself.

He swam up close to Will.

“Tell me why you’re not scared of me. Prove it,” Nico growled.

“You won’t kill me,” the blonde said, his voice ragged.

“And how can you be so sure I won’t?” he snarled.

“Then do it. Kill me right now,” Will said confidently, like he wasn’t asking for a death wish.

“I-I…” Nico didn’t know what to say.

Could he ever really kill Will...the one person who’d been nice to him in over a hundred years? It would be so easy...then how come it seemed so hard.

Before Nico would answer fully, he felt Will hug him.
