Dad raised his hand to hit Sam again. His blow connected with my brother's chin, snapping his head back.

"Stop it!" I shrieked.

"You're being a very bad girl!" my mom yelled, coming from behind and kicking me.

"Shut up! I don't want to hear your sh*t anymore!" I yelled, looking up from my spot on the floor.

"Kati! Help!" Sam wailed, his cry for help cut off by my father slamming his foot into the young boy's face.

I pushed my mom off of me, getting up and limping to the kitchen. My mother followed me. As she tried to hit me again, I thrust my arm forward. The hand holding the knife sank deep into her chest.

She slumped against me, blood dribbling out of her mouth. I wrenched the knife out of her ribs and walked to my dad. I sank it in to his back as he tried to hit Sam again.

The dagger went into his muscle down to the hilt. "What're youdoing?" he slurred, trying to get it out. I stabbed him again, and he fell.

Sam started crying as I pulled the knife out of my father. "Don't worry, Sammy. It'll be okay," I soothed, hugging him to my chest. "They can't hurt us anymore."

He curled his knees to his chest, which was bruised from my father kicking it. "B-But where will we go?"

"I'll find a place. Don't worry, I'll protect you."
