heart and mind
after our wedding, we had moved out and bought our own house, a cozy two story bungalow with large windows and a lot of extra space. we were definitely planning on having children, but with my job as a computer programmer and yours as a teacher, we never got the time to...you know, make the baby.
today was quite a tiring day, as i wasn't able to fix the code for a new laptop we had in manufacturing. the screen kept flashing lime greens and navy blues, which had us all by surprise.
"what's your plan for tonight?" my coworker - park jimin - asked me, his orange hair as vibrant as ever. he always had a thing for loitering around my office, and no matter how much i had insisted that i was busy, he always came back with some sort of irritating question.
i sighed loudly, locking my office door behind me. "nothing, really. i might help my wife cook for dinner - i think she told me that we'd have guests over today." jimin's skinny black tie was crooked, an equally crooked smile spread across his lips. "do you have any plans for tonight?"
he spent about forty seconds humming in deep thought, before licking his lips. "no, not really."
"alright! see you tomorrow!" taking the chance, i nearly jogged to the elevator, hearing jimin yell something inaudible in return. tapping my foot as i waited for the elevator to arrive, i let out a sign of relief when a small ding! emitted from the elevator. i pressed in the button for the underground parking, leaning against the silver bar in the wall. i steadily breathed through my nose, thinking of you.
we rarely got time together nowadays, but i still love you.
i still love you.
the elevator doors slid open to reveal the dreary parking lot, and i quickly located my car before getting in and speeding out of there, on my way home.

i heard your gentle laughter from inside our home as i unlocked the door, your eyes drifting over to me. you offered me a small smile before continuing to talk to the man in front of you, his dyed caramel hair and the nape of his neck the only thing visible to me. he seemed to not notice me coming in the door, causing you to release a small giggle, leaving him oblivious.
you two seemed to be having a good time, so i quickly excused myself to freshen up.
i heard him laugh from the living room.
his laughter was deep, the vibrato shaking my bones in the best way possible. i washed my face, drying myself off with a towel before rolling my sleeves up, going to finally greet the mysterious man in our living room.
"ah, jungkook!" you exclaimed, rushing over to me and planting a quick kiss to my lips. "meet taehyung. he works with me, he's an english teacher."
and as he turned around and our eyes locked, i felt my world get thrown sideways and my vision reverted to black and white, making me stumble backwards.
i know he felt it, too. the way his eyes widened and blinked roughly, i knew he experienced it as well. if my vision left because him, it would return to him because of me.
when our eyes met for a second time,
my vision returned in lucid shades of crimson, azure, lilac, and golden.
"jungkook? what's wrong?" your tender voice snapped me back into reality, but my eyes didn't leave taehyungs shocked face, not even for a moment. i wasn't sure if i was entranced by his ethereal beauty or if i was too ashamed to meet your eyes.
"sooyeon," i muttered fearfully.
"yes? is everything okay?"
i shook my head as taehyungs mouth opened and closed, much like a fish. i gulped, knowing the next words would shatter one relationship but build another.
"we're just not meant to be anymore."
