Secrets (#JWBC)
"Twelve dollars and five cents please," the cashier says in a monotone voice.
"Here," I say joyfully, handing him the exact change. I can't help but smile and Laugh as I take my receipt and leave the store.
It's me and my husband's tenth anniversary of our wedding. We got married when I was eighteen and he was twenty, so we're still pretty young, but I think we'll be together until each of us dies.
This year I got him books signed by the author from his favorite series, so I can't wait to see his reaction. I just bought a bag, tissue paper, and a card for him, so I'm all ready for the big surprise now! I even took off work today without telling him so I could first go out and buy the bag I forgot to get and second come home early to surprise him.
I don't think I've ever not told him when I was coming home early or had a day off. I guess we both got in the habit of telling each other our schedules and even where we're going. I guess we're just both very truthful and still innocent.
I giggle at the thought that Oliver has always been the innocent type and probably will be the rest of his life. His innocence is probably also the reason we don't have kids yet, but I'm ok with that because I feel like once we have a kid I'll just be living a stereotypical life and stop having adventures with Oliver. I sigh and turn the car keys, the car making the strange squeaking noise it always makes before turning on.
As I drive home I try to forget about having kids and focus on how Oliver will react when I get home. Even imagining his reaction makes me giggle and smile uncontrollably.
Before I know it I'm home and I quietly put the books in the bag and sign the card before going up to our apartment. Thank god we're in an apartment right now, if we had been in our old house he'd have heard the car drive in since we couldn't park on the streets in that neighborhood. I quietly put the key in the keyhole and slowly turn the key as to not make any noise. I turn the handle and let it click before I start pushing the door slowly as to not make it squeak. When I'm inside I close the door slowly again and when I close it I slowly let up on the handle until it clicks back in place.
I don't hear Oliver moving around, so I'm guessing that this mission was a success. I tiptoe around the house, stealthily looking for Oliver in every room. Finally, it's only our bedroom left and I know he's in there since I saw his car parked in the lot and I checked all the other rooms.
I throw open the door and let it hit the wall, yelling, "surprise!" loudly while jumping into the room. When I enter the room, though, I become the surprised one instead.
I see my husband army crawling under our bed. his movement suddenly stopping as I enter the room followed by a loud thunk. "Oliver?" I ask, squatting down as to try and see what's under the bed besides my husband.
"Dear, I thought you were at work..." Oliver says, staying under the bed.
"Well I took off the day so I could come back and surprise you."
"Oh... that's very sweet of you honey!"
"What are you hiding?" I ask as I get down on my stomach and crawl under as well. "Did you drop something? I can help you look if you tell me what it is."
"Oh no, no, I'm fine."
"Then won't you come out...?"
"Oh no, no, I'm fine here."
"Come on Olly, I want you to open your present," I say as I swiftly pull myself out from under the bed and begin pulling on Oliver's legs. Due to his light body, it's easy to pull him out and flip him over to his back.
When he's flipped over I see him squinting and covering his face with his hands. "Will you get up?" I giggle as I put my hands on my hips.
"Ummmm... I will if you find my sunglasses"
"Fine," I say, going to the kitchen and opening the drawer with the sunglasses in it. I take one of his pairs and bring it back to him, placing it on his stomach.
"Oh thanks, darling, I couldn't find them," he swiftly puts them on and sighs as he opens his eyes and finally stands up, moving his hands to behind his back.
"They're in the kitchen... and why do you need them? It's not like you were drunk last night," I giggle at the thought of Oliver drunk, "but you did come home late and go straight to bed."
"Oh... um... yep I was drunk and now I have a hangover... oh man does it suck..." he says in a strange voice that almost yells I'm lying.
I laugh loudly and hug him, "ok I know you're not really hungover, so what's going on?"
"Uh... n-nothing?"
"Olly~ you know we should always be trusting of each other. Now please tell me," I say as I hug him tighter, seeing something grasped tightly in his hands.
"I know... but..." he says before I swiftly move my hands to grab the object he is holding.
"What's this?" I ask as I examine it. It's a small silver box, almost like a mint tin, and it has strange designs on it. When I turn it over I hear something move inside, so I decide to open it. Small white objects, like small pills, sit inside. "What are these," I ask as I dodge Oliver's hands and his attempt to get it back.
"They're... uh... mints? Yep! Just regular old mints!" He says, holding out his hand, waiting for me to give it back to him.
"Oh really?! I need one, I didn't brush my teeth this morning," I say, half needing a mint and half not trusting him. I pick one up and place it on my tongue, throwing it around in my mouth.
I immediately spit it out and gasp due to its flavor, Oliver taking back the tin as I run to the kitchen to get some water. "Olly! What was that? It tasted like blood!" I yell, gurgling water and spitting it out.
"Well... uh..." he says, closing the tin.
"Come on... please... I just want to help," I say as I look to him from the kitchen.
He takes a deep breath, "Fine..."
"Well?" I ask impatiently, kind of curious about how he's going to explain all of this.
"I- got- trn- v- pre," I hear due to him speaking so fast.
"Slower please?" I ask gently, walking towards him.
"Fine... I got turned into a vampire," he says still quickly, but this time slow enough so I could hear him.
When what he says actually takes hold in my mind I stop walking towards him, "what?"
"Well... last night when I was walking back to my car, a guy in an alleyway jumped me and but my neck. I didn't know what to do so I just kind of froze. Then these other guys showed up out of nowhere and pulled me away from the other guy. I couldn't really hear what they were saying because I felt very faint but then one of them forced me to bite the other guy's neck and one of them told me to drink, and in my delirium I did... then I kind of blacked out.
"Then when I woke up the guys were still there but not the one that but my neck. Then they kind of told me that the guy who bit my neck was a pureblood vampire and I turned into a vampire too and if I hadn't drunk his blood I would've become his slave or something and go rampaging for blood until the hunters or the other vampires took care of me. And I think they meant to kill me, not like take care of me like a pet I think...
"Well, anyway... then they told me to put these pills in a glass of water and take it every now and then when I feel thirsty and if I need more to go to this address," he takes a piece of paper out of his pocket and points to it, "and they said that if I feel especially thirsty to drink animal's blood. They were also very passionate about not drinking human's blood... it was strange...
"but when I woke up the sun was really bothering me and I felt really thirsty. So I drank a lot of water then tried these weird pull things and it kind of worked as to keep away the thirst but the sun was still bothersome, so I looked for sunglasses but couldn't find any and I was in the middle of crawling under the bed when you came home."
"Wow..." I respond, stunned by what I just heard. "Please tell me it's a prank..."
Oliver shakes his head, "see? This is why I didn't want to tell you..."
Seeing his face I know he's telling the truth, besides he's too innocent to play a prank like this. "I'm sorry... um well... what do you want to do about it?"
"I don't know..."
"Well do you want to stay a bloodthirsty vampire?" I ask bluntly. He shakes his head and begins the twiddle his thumbs. "Then, how about you ask the people at that address if there's a way to be human again."
"Ok... but I don't want to go alone... will you go with me?" He asks like a small child.
"Sure..." I say, truthfully not wanting to go near those bloodthirsty creatures hideout.
"They told me to only come at night though..."
"Oh..."
"Should we go later then?"
"Yeah... um... around 7 maybe?" I say looking at the clock that reads 10:49 a.m.
"Yep," he says awkwardly, pursing his lips.
"Yep," I answer, continuing the awkward silence. "Hey... I have an anniversary gift for you... do you want it now...?"
"Yeah... sure..."
I grab the bag from the floor where I dropped it and hand it to him, still kind of excited about how he'll react. "Woah! Is this The Dancing Dragons series by Luko Lee?" he says as he takes them out of the bag and unties the ribbon tieing them together, "Oh a card."
"Yeah, it is... I hope you like them," I say as he reads the card. I'm the type that writes a paragraph when signing a card, so it takes him a little until he's finished reading.
"Aw... thank you... and I love you too!" we awkwardly hug for a few seconds before he suddenly gets excited, "Oh wait your present! oh, wait... your present..." his tone changing to disappointed.
"Huh? what is it?"
"Well... I um... got us tickets to that new vampire movie... so... I bet I can exchange them if you want..." he says awkwardly writhing.
"No, it's ok. Thank you, Olly."
"Yeah... I kinda got them like a week ago so—"
I cut him off, "no, really. Thank you. I don't care what's just happened but I want to see that movie. I heard it's awesome! let's not let this whole 'you're a vampire now' thing ruin it, yeah?"
"Yeah..." he says awkwardly laughing and turning away, "well, want any breakfast?"
I nod and we go eat the breakfast I had prepared before going out. After eating breakfast we just watch movies and play games, occasionally glancing awkwardly at the clock. For lunch, we ordered Chinese, which we ate in awkward silence while watching a movie. We had to close the windows and blinds because it seemed that he was literally getting sunburned while walking past a window, but I didn't mind it much. After lunch, seven o'clock came sooner than we thought.
Without many words, we both got ready and headed out the door and got into my car. I silently entered the address into the GPS and followed its instructions. The car ride was silent and when we got there we both got out of the car and awkwardly stood on the sidewalk, not knowing where to go next.
"Well... what do we do now..." I say, breaking the silence.
"I'm not sure... let me umm... check the note..." he runs back to the passenger side of the car and grabs the note, bringing it back to where I am. "Ummm... It says that it's the old abandoned house and to take the elevator to the basement. Well... let's go I guess..."
I leave my purse in the car but I bring my phone and leave it in my coat pocket just in case this is all a big hoax. We both walk up to the house and I enter first, seeing that Olly would probably not ever go first. When we enter, we see at the end of the hall is a new-looking elevator, which is starkly different than the rest of the house. We hesitantly walk up to it and press the down arrow, which makes the metal doors open up immediately. We both walk in and I press the button for the basement, the doors closing again and the elevator begins to move.
When the doors open again we are greeted by a hall with renaissance era wallpaper and trim. When we walk in, someone comes out of a door on the hallway. We continue to walk, trying to act like we belong there. As we get nearer to the one who had left the room, he bows, but as we pass, he pulls up his head and looks questionably at me. I ignore it and keep walking, not knowing where to go. The hallway then ends at two large oak doors, and we look at each other, silently agreeing to open them at the same time. When we open them and go inside, they close behind us and we are left to another hallway. I can see the left side of the hallway open up to some larger room, and as I walk closer I see that's it's a ballroom filled with men and women in centuries-old styled clothing.
"Oh, you came so soon," I hear a voice say, bringing my attention to it. It comes from a young and handsome blond man in a white suit. "Oh, and who's this you brought? huh?" he squints his eyes and comes closer to me. After a few seconds, his eyes widen and he backs up.
"This is my wife... she's a human, sorry..." Olly says while laughing.
"Ah... I see now. If you will, please come with me," he says before turning around and walking down the hall in a rather quick pace.
We follow, almost having to jog to keep up with him until he suddenly stops at another set of large ornate doors. "Sir," he says, knocking with his knuckles. The doors open and he slips inside, leaving a crack in the door.
I turn to Oliver, "hey do you know that man?"
"Umm... sort of? he was in the group that saved me. Rather it was three of them. That guy, another guy who looked just like him, his twin I think, and a tall black haired man who stayed back and was silent the whole time."
"Alright..." I say, still hesitant about the situation.
Then, a man bursts out of the two large doors, his eyes wide and his breath shaky, "Rebecca?"
"That's him, the other guy," Oliver says as I begin to stare into his dark blue eyes.
For some reason, I can't look away, but a sharp pain in my head eventually forces me too, making me squat and moan in pain. "Drink this, it'll help," I hear someone say, probably the man who came from the room. A glass filled with a dark red liquid is then handed to me. I hesitate for a moment but drink it as the pains grow worse. The mysterious drink doesn't help, though, all I remember is dropping the glass then blacking out.
When I wake up, I'm in a bed and my head still hurts, but not as bad as before. When I swiftly sit up memories flash into my head of some life that I never recalled living before. A life where I'm a vampire. When I stand up, more becomes clearer to me but the memories still feel like some fake life I didn't actually live.
"Lady Rebecca," I hear from someone in the corner. Daniel. He's an aristocrat, a vampire who's not fully pureblood, but not on the level of a pureblood.
"Daniel?" I say as I stumble forward.
"Oh, so you remember me now?" he says with a devilish smile.
"Where's William?"
The door then opens and he's standing there, smiling at me, which cues Daniel to leave. "Thank god... you've awoken... so you remember that you're a pureblood now?"
ok I finished it! I may have only written this in an hour and have done no editing all and the story may be cringey as fuck and very stupid but oh well! hope you enjoy Yugana_Penrozu
I kind of tried to make it funny but it just turned very cringe and bad at the end
I might go back and make a part 2 or something if you want to know what happens next in this cringe fest 😂
