Wukong x guarded reader
"Come on, pebbles." Monkey King grinned from his cloud. "You know you can't resist."
Your heart pinched at that. In your mind's eye he flickered to a silhouette of your last ex with the exact same grin when he had betrayed you. You turned away.
"Oh believe me, I can."
Monkey King huffed and stepped off his cloud walking around you.
Your heart skipped a beat as he leaned against the wall Infront of you.
"It's just dinner."
He gave you the most innocent and encouraging smile.
"I won't bite, promise."
You rose an eyebrow at that. He sure was persistent. He'd been asking you out for nearly a month now. Ever since you'd joined M.k for a training session.
You had no fear of the Monkey King...until you saw him. Something about him flustered you. And the last time that happened, your heart had been brutally smashed. You weren't ready to suffer that again.
"And you have a student, remember?" You walked past him. "Shouldn't you be teaching him?"
The Monkey King watched you walk away seemingly unbothered.
"We finished already. "
You huffed.
"Then go...be a bother somewhere else." You huffed and waved a dismissive hand, continuing on your way.
"One last question, pebbles." Monkey King mentioned falling into stride with you.
"Yes?" You sighed.
"What are you so scared of?"
Your shoulders stiffened and you froze midstep.
"What? Afraid? Pfft I'm not afraid." You blew off the question without meeting his gaze.
Monkey King gave you a once over coupled with a concerned look.
"You say that but uh you flinch every time I look at you," Monkey stepped around you.
You jumped slightly and stepped back.
"You smile when I make jokes then immediately stiffen when you realize, you hesitate before you turn me down every time I ask you out, and-" Wukong smirked watching your jaw fall slightly at his accuracy. "You think I don't notice you staring when I'm training the kid?" He rose an eyebrow.
Your cheeks ignited into a massive blush at the revelation. It was true. You had been staring, you tried not to, but frankly it was attractive. You had thought he wouldn't notice, but clearly you were wrong.
"So-" Monkey King tilted his head curiously. "What are you so scared of?"
Monkey King flickered in your vision now. Between a silhouette of your ex and Monkey King. You felt your hands starting to tremble.
Wukong's eyes widened as you turned away.
"I'm not scared." You gritted out between your teeth.
A silence chilled the air between you two.
"Alright, pebbles. But for the record, I'm not him." Monkey King mentioned his footfalls beginning to fade.
A gasp escaped you and you turned.
"Wait!"
Wukong paused and glanced at you.
"Who? You aren't who?"
Wukong sighed.
"M.k told me about your...ex." Monkey King explained sitting on his cloud with frown.
Your stomach churned.
"He said you were touchy about the subject so I didn't mention it," Wukong shrugged. "But then you kept looking at me like I killed your goldfish so I figured it would be important to mention."
You stared at him in shock then folded your arms.
"Let me get this straight. You knew."
"That's right."
"And you continued to harass me anyway?!"
Monkey King stiffened.
"Woah! Wait a minute. I didn't 'harass' anyone. I asked you out multiple times because you always pause before you refuse. Like you want to say yes."
You huffed and turned away.
He walked over slowly.
"I'll never force you into anything y/n. But I want to make sure you aren't refusing something you actually want out of fear." His voice was soft and kind, empathetic even.
You sighed.
He was right. You were being stubborn out of fear. And that was tiring.
"Fine. One date." You agreed finally.
Instantly Monkey King lit up.
"Great! You won't regret it."
