The Long-Standing Legacy

"Eunha, look stop," Taehyung said, getting annoyed at her disturbing behavior. She had begged him to take her to his house because she wasn't 'feeling well'. She made up the excuse that she couldn't go to Jimin's house because he was working late at night and he couldn't be there to take care of her. Taehyung called his personal driver and took her to his house, but all she tried to do was get in his pants.
"Come on! You and Jimin are so annoying! I came to have fun and you are being so boring." She pouted, trying to get his attention. Taehyung was drunk, but he kept his mind clear enough, knowing that she was using him and he didn't like that. Not only him, but his own friend.
"He is your fiancé! If you don't tell him what you're trying to do with me, then I will," he warned. "Now leave my house."
Eunha suddenly stood up. She was mad and he could tell. She grabbed her purse and walked to the door, slamming it shut once she left.
It was five AM when Eunha arrived home. This time later than last. She walked up the stairs and found her fiancé in bed, sleeping. She felt nothing when she saw him, plus she was just annoyed. Upset with how her day turned out, she went to one of the guest rooms and took a warm night shower. Then her phone buzzed, and she scoffed when she saw the name on the call.
"What is it?"
"We need the money. Now," said the voice. The man on the other side of the call sounded anxious and worried.
"What the fuck are you talking about?" she asked. "I just rescheduled the wedding a few hours ago. It's next month. I'm trying to hurry it up. What do you want now?"
From the other side of the call, the young man was looking through multiple papers as he looked for the important information that he had read a few minutes before the call. He was sweating, and he was panicking. "There's this fucking lawyer trying to sue Kang & Co. I don't know what's happening. He came out today in the news and said that Kang & Co. is hiding a terrible secret and that he was going to reveal what it was. He said he was going to gather all the evidence possible to destroy everyone involved."
"A fucking lawyer? Suing us?" Eunha asked in disbelief.
"Yeah, Byun something. I saw the document this morning. I-I don't know why, but his name sounds familiar."
Suddenly, she dropped her purse as she realized something. She knew very well it had to be Baekhyun. He was a lawyer, and he was surely planning on ruining her life after realizing she was going to get married soon. She also realized something. Byun... Byun...A... Byun Ara?
"The Byun family," she whispered as chills went down her spine. "The Byun family! Byun Baekhyun, Byun Ara, B-Byun Haneul! The Byun Haneul!"
"N-No, it can't be them. It just can't. It really just can't. Yes, he died at the hospital, but it has nothing to do with us, right?"
"No. He died because of a car accident. It was not us!" she yelled. "If Baekhyun wants to sue us, then let him be. He won't get far. Trust me."
"But what about her? Ara. Do you think she remembers?"
That was when Eunha realized something. She had completely forgotten everything about Baekhyun the day she had brought him over to her house. It was not the first time she had heard his name, and definitely not the first time she had heard Ara's.
"Wait a minute—it's her!" Eunha yelled, interrupting him. "Byun Ara. The fucking maid! This entire time, it was her. Fucking shit. She's after us. She's definitely after us!"
She threw her phone towards the wall in anger and let out a scream of frustration. Repeatedly, she tried to remind herself that everything she was doing was for a purpose. She wanted the money immediately, and she kept manipulating herself, saying that she was doing what she needed to do—she was doing a good job. She reminded herself of that every time. Now that she was so close, she couldn't waste her time. Money meant a lot to her. It really did.
But now Ara showed up. She had returned.
Eunha grabbed her bathrobe and walked towards Jimin's room. She opened the door and looked at him. He laid in bed, peacefully. Eunha walked to the side of the bed and got under the bedsheets. She laid next to Jimin and watched him sleep. For a second, for just a split second, she felt guilty seeing his innocent face. Then her eyes grew cold once again.

The next day, Jimin woke up and saw his girlfriend next to him. It was weird to him since she would be gone early in the morning sometimes and come early just to leave again. It was a repetitive cycle. She was only at home when she had nothing to do. Well, when she had no one to do.
"Hey baby, how are you?" she asked, kissing his lips. It had been a while since Jimin had shown any sort of affection to her, but she didn't notice a difference. However, Jimin made it very obvious that something was wrong. It didn't matter if she knew he was full of anger or if she thought he was just stressed from work. He couldn't hide his annoyance anymore.
"I'm good. Why so happy?"
"Oh right, I rescheduled our wedding. Instead of in two and a half months, it's going to be in one month. Happy babe?" She smiled while Jimin was just shocked. When he wanted to get married sooner, it didn't happen, but now she wanted to get married as soon as she could and it made him wonder why. It made him wonder if she was losing time. If she needed more time to do something. If she was even doing something at all.
"And one more thing, baby," she said as she slowly unbuttoned his shirt. "Byun Ara."
Jimin turned to her, confused. That was the first time she had ever mentioned Ara at all. She never even took a moment to acknowledge her presence before, but now she even knew her surname. It gave Jimin a weird sensation, and it surely was not a good sign.
"I want her out," she said. "I keep finding stuff in the house that isn't ours, babe. For example, the other day I found a shirt underneath the bed in the guest room. I think she's bringing other men over. What if she's having sex with them in our home? Doesn't that disgust you?"
Jimin glanced at her serious face and almost blurted out, laughing. He couldn't believe what she was saying. He couldn't believe that she would project the things she had done onto Ara. It made no sense, and it made him want to laugh. Caught, and yet she still blamed others, which made the whole situation even funnier for Jimin.
"Are you sure about this?" he asked, and she nodded her head immediately. "Well, I guess I'm going to need to catch her in the act. It's only fair to have proof, no?"
Hearing that made Eunha a little nervous. She looked at him, confused, as she was unsure about what he was trying to say. It made her worried at the same time.
"I'm going to place a camera in the living room to see what happens. Just in case," he said, making Eunha back off him. She never even knew about the camera that he had recently installed outside of his house. She never even looked up to where the camera was, so there was no way she could have known. Watching the footage of the camera felt like watching a reality show on the screen. It entertained Jimin so much.
"I-I don't think it's necessary," she said as she suddenly switched topics. "Babe, last night I was out drinking with some friends after work and your friend Taehyung showed up. Seeing him there made me feel so uncomfortable."
Jimin looked at her a bit perplexed as he was wondering what she was going to say about his friend. He also wondered why Taehyung didn't tell him about the encounter, but he just shrugged it off, thinking he was probably drunk because of Eunha. It was an occasional thing that Eunha would seduce Jimin more when he was drunk, so he already knew what to expect from her. She had to have done the same with other men.
"He was treating me weird yesterday. He invited me to his house and tried to touch me! I was so scared. I can't remember anything because I was drunk, but what if he did something to me? Do something about it, baby."
Jimin sighed, knowing she was just avoiding the topic from before. He knew it had to be the other way around, so he didn't even question it further. All he did was tell her he would talk to Taehyung about it soon. He then stood up and started getting ready for work.

It had already been a while since Ara started working for Jimin and her salary was giving her a good amount for her tuition. Now that winter break was almost over, she wondered if she was going to need more time to study or if she was going to stay working as a maid for Jimin when her classes began. This time, when she went over to Jimin's house, Eunha was the one who answered the door.
"Did he not tell you?" she said. "You're fired."
She slammed the door behind her and glared at Ara as she got in her Aston Martin and drove off. Ara stayed there, confused, wondering if her words were true or not. She grabbed her phone and called Minji, but she was busy with a modeling photoshoot and couldn't pick her up. She didn't have Jimin's phone, and she didn't even know if he was at home—which he wasn't. Desperately, she even called Jungkook, but he was busy with work. He was worried, however, so he called Jimin and he sent his personal driver there to open the door for her.
"Hello, Ms. Byun. I'm Mr. Lee. Mr. Park said to leave you this message," the man said, giving Ara a folded paper. She took it and thanked him as he opened the door for her and allowed her inside. When she opened it, she saw a phone number with a message written on it.
"Here's my number, just in case you ever need to call me directly. Sorry for what happened. Eunha told me to fire you, making up some bullshit excuse. Ignore it. You're welcome to stay working here. It's my house, after all."

"Can you pass me those documents, please? The lawsuit against Kang & Co. I need to see something," Jimin said. Namjoon grabbed the file of papers and realized something once he saw a familiar name.
"Jimin, the lawyer who brought forward the lawsuit is the Byun Baekhyun," he said. Jimin was confused, wondering what exactly about him, but then he realized he had met him before. "Byun Baekhyun. The very well-known lawyer and business executive who is also Ara's brother."
Jimin knew who the man was and believed that he had extreme courage to bring forward a lawsuit against Kang & Co. He wondered why, however. Namjoon wondered the same, but he knew something that Jimin didn't—he just couldn't mention it. He didn't want the memories coming back. He couldn't relive it again, so he just stayed silent. Jimin kept thinking to himself as he then grabbed onto his phone. He was about to call Ara, but he didn't have her number saved, which is why he had sent his personal driver with the letter. He wanted to have some form of communication with her in order to prevent any hassles. That was when a random phone number started calling him, so he answered.
"Hello?"
"Hello, it's Ara. A certain Kim Taehyung came to see you today. He said Eunha met with him last night. She tried to—"
"I got it," he said, interrupting her words. "I figured. She tried to tell me something completely different."
A moment of silence went by through the phone. After hearing what Eunha tried to do with Taehyung, Ara started getting more and more upset with her, even if it wasn't her place to be in. Even Eunha's own fiancé had enough of her.
"Your brother, Byun Baekhyun," he said, breaking the silence. "Do you know he wants to sue Eunha's company?"
Ara stayed silent. She had never been involved in her brother's work and affairs, so she knew nothing. She didn't even know of Eunha's company at all. The lawsuit surprised her and it shocked her that her brother was suing Eunha. She wanted to know more, even if she had vowed to never get involved in any of Baekhyun's cases at all.
"Lawsuit? No. I haven't heard of anything. He never tells me about any of his cases. He likes to hide them from the world until the very last minute."
Jimin nodded. He was even more curious now about the Byun family. Even more than before.
"He's suing Kang & Co. and I want to be prepared before anything happens, so it won't affect my company as well. Can you send me his contact information? I want to meet him again."
Later that same day, Baekhyun cleared his schedule to meet with Jimin at his office. As soon as he received Jimin's call, he knew it was his opportunity. He couldn't waste the once in a lifetime chance of meeting the Park Jimin in his office for work. It was every executive's dream.
"Why are you doing this?" Jimin asked. He leaned back in his chair and crossed his legs. He rested his arms on his chair as Baekhyun stood. Despite Jimin's immense power, Baekhyun wasn't afraid of him. He just admired him. After all, Baekhyun had influences too, so he stood tall and straight as he looked at him.
"That day we met, I was supposed to be there as a one-night stand," he replied. "That was when Ara called me to leave the house. She was hiding behind the corner of the living room, seeing what was happening. Thankfully, it stopped before anything could happen."
Jimin nodded, knowing that it all made sense and coordinated with Ara's version of the story.
"I'm suing Kang & Co., but it's not because of Eunha's affair," he said. Jimin sat up and placed his hands on his desk as he felt intrigued by Baekhyun's words. He looked at him confused as he had thought that Baekhyun was suing Eunha for some sort of punishment. He didn't expect there to be any other reason. That was until Baekhyun said, "Kang & Co. killed my father."
Jimin sat there in silence. He was interested in the lawsuit and even more interested in his story. He acknowledged what the young man said and signaled him to sit down. Baekhyun pulled the chair that was near the desk closer to him and sat down as he placed his suitcase on his lap. He opened it and brought out a photograph in order to hand it to Jimin.
"Byun Haneul. He's my father," he said. "He was the founder and CEO of the Byun Corporation until a reckless driver in a hit-and-run attacked him. He lost his ability to walk and had to stay in the hospital for a week. Every day, he was getting extremely better, until he suddenly stopped breathing. His death made no sense. That hospital was from Kang & Co."
"So you believe they just left your father to die?"
"No sir," Baekhyun said. "I believe they were the ones to kill my father that day. Not the hospital, but someone involved with—or even—Kang & Co. itself."
