Eleven||
I walk inside of the cafe before checking the time to see its only eight thirty. I sigh shakily, rubbing at my eyes, not bothering to put on any makeup because I honestly had no motivation to and didn't really care at the moment.
I walk across the wooden flooring, my eyes searching the area for Louis but I don't see him at any of the tables I dart my eyes to. I was relieved when he asked me to come to the cafe. I more expected him to invite me to a bar or club, since that is more his scene, that I never liked at all. I've always told him I'll never go to a place like that with him. If anything, he's only going with his friends.
I walk over to the counter and sit on a red cushioned stool to rest and wait.
"Want anything?" The barista asks.
"No, just sitting." I say before he nods and walks away.
I suddenly feel someone grab my shoulders, making me jump and whip my head to see Louis. "Hey babe." He smirks.
I internally cringe but externally fight my way out of his hold and roll my eyes as I turn back around.
"You look beautiful, by the way."
"You said you wouldn't make any advances on me." I snap, knowing fully well I look like shit.
"I'm just a friend complimenting you." He says, furrowing his brows as he sits down beside me. "Now, do you want anything?"
"Not really, no." I sigh, shaking my head.
"Are you sure? I'll buy."
"I'm fine, Louis." I say, irritation clear in my tone as I look him in the eyes. "Just get to the reason you invited me here."
He chuckles with a smirk on his lips and turns to me on the stool. "I just wanted to hang out."
"Why?"
"Like old times. Our relationship didn't work out, but maybe a friendship will, right?"
"No."
"Yes."
I roll my eyes. "I'm leaving Louis." I sigh, shaking my head.
"Rauline, please." He says quietly, putting his hand on top of mine.
I pull my tightened fist away from his touch quickly.
"Let me just talk."
I don't say anything.
He sighs heavily and closes his eyes, rubbing the bridge of his nose before opening them again. I notice he's still in his suit from work. "I'm sorry."
My eyes widen just as I suck in a sharp breath of air, making it go down my throat suddenly and I begin to choke. I cover my mouth quickly, feeling my face turning red.
"Shit, are you okay?" I hear him ask before he orders a glass of water for me.
He puts his hand over mine again, making me look up quickly to see the glass of water in his other hand. I take it from him with my shaky hand and gulp the cold liquid down quickly. I sigh heavily when I'm done, putting the glass on the counter roughly.
"What happened?" He asks.
"I was fucking choking." I snap.
He puts his hands up in the air as if surrendering, making me roll my eyes at his playfulness.
"But seriously, Rauline. I'm sorry."
I blink, staring into his eyes before looking away and laughing.
"Louis stop." I say through my laughter. He frowns and blinks, looking taken aback at my reaction. "Seriously, that might have been the funniest thing you've said all night."
"I'm serious Rauline."
"No your not. You know why? Because how many damn years has it been? Your saying sorry now because I left and you can't get any other girl because you are shit at doing that."
His fists tighten.
"Why am I even here?" I chuckle, standing up.
"Because I called you and I'm serious." He seethes.
I nod. "I believe you, Louis." I roll my eyes.
The man stands up, being the same height I am, before he grabs my wrist with the tightest grip I have ever felt from him, so I can't pull away. He pulls me outside into the cold night air and proceeds to walk to the side of of the building before slamming me against the wall, pinning me against it by my shoulders.
I feel the wind get knocked out of me, my heart beginning to race at a rapid pace.
"Who said you can touch me like this." I snap, not breaking my tough demeanor but feeling shaken up by his rough touches. He keeps his expression stone hard for a few minutes before, ever so slowly, his grip on my shoulder loosens and he slowly backs away from me.
"Why have you gotten so frusterating?" He sighs, furrowing his brows.
"I'm stronger." I mumble.
He licks his lips and nods. "Yeah. You are." He smiles slightly.
"So you can't play with me anymore." I snap.
"I never played with you, Rauline!" He yells, pointing at me angrily, our noses almost brushing. His breathing fans my cheeks, making my lashes flutter. He still effects me, but i would never give him the satisfaction of knowing that.
"Fine. Then tell me one thing. Just one thing." I say quietly, leaning my face even closer to him if it's even possible. We would be kissing right now if I didn't retract back slightly. "What mistake did I make to get you to stop loving me?" I ask.
Louis swallows thickly, me watching his Adams apple Bob up and down before I look into his blue eyes again.
I raise my eyebrows as I cross my arms over my chest, expecting an answer from him. I don't know why I want to hear it, but maybe it's because he's been treating me like shit for so long and I don't understand why he has never yelled at me for whatever the hell it is that I did to make him fall out of love with me.
"Nothing." He says.
"What?" I furrow my eyebrows.
"You did nothing." He says. "To make me stop loving you."
I purse my lips.
"Then why have you been treating me like shit?" I spit, scowling.
It starts to drizzle lightly, the cold water hitting my skin as I feel my tear ducts finally begin to break.
"W-why have you been so much quieter than usual and just try and pick a damn fight with me." I stammer, stating the facts. "Why don't you communicate with me?" I whisper.
The man looks at a loss for words. His chest starts to visibly move up and down as he tightens his fists, making his knuckles turn white. He stares down at the floor, strands of his slicked back hair falling to his forehead.
Then he looks up at me.
He suddenly grabs my cheeks and crashes his lips onto mine, and for a second, I give in, but in a flash I push at his chest, making him stumble backwards.
"Stop!" I yell, tears finally streaming. I haven't cried about him for months. Why now? "Friends Louis! Friends!"
"You know you and I can't be friends!" He yells, teeth clenched.
"Then stay away from me! Stop calling me! Stop irritating me."
"I can't, Rauline. Don't you understand that by now?" He asks, laughing bitterly.
The rain begins to pour harder over our heads while wind is whipping around us violently suddenly.
"I can't stay away from you." He says, quieter.
"You don't love me so why, Louis?" I ask, shaking my head.
He parts his lips but bites down on his bottom lip, shaking his head as he flickers his gaze to the floor.
I'm never going to get answers. He's never going to talk to me. We are never going to communicate.
I nod my head in acceptance. "Okay. I'll see you at work tomorrow then." I tell him, sighing shakily, feeling exhausted. He's mentally draining me.
Finally, I walk away from him and back to my car to leave and be in the comfort of my temporary home.
I look to see him walking beneath the canopy in front of the cafe, now soaked from the hard hitting rain, and he lights a cig in the darkness, smoking it.
THE NEXT DAY
"With the biggest passion in my heart, I do not want to go to work today." I sigh heavily, leaning against the door of my bedroom, watching Harry as he stuffs a bagel in his mouth, sitting on the couch.
"Amen to that." He agrees, his mouth still full.
"There's food in your mouth."
He looks at me, furrowing his brows. "And you have red ass hair, any other facts you want to say?" He says, food still in his mouth
I suddenly laugh and roll my eyes. "Okay, snappy." I chuckle. "But give me one." I say.
He throws the pack of bagels to me and I take a plain one out before setting it on the coffee table just as Diane walks out of her room.
"How do I look?" She asks.
"Beautiful." Harry says, jumping up from the couch. "Now can we go now? I have an interview calling my name." He sighs, wiping his hands on his black slacks.
"Oh yeah, real classy. Why don't you get some cheetos and smother it all over your white shirt."
"Keep talking like that and I'll pour cheetos all over that one hundred dollar dress, that I in fact, had paid for." He says, raising his eyebrows threatiningly.
"Oh. I'm so scared."
"Literally, this is how you guys are so late for things." I chuckle at their banter.
Diane sighs. "Yeah your right, lets go guys." She says.
The best part of the whole day is the morning, mostly because we all drive in the same car, Harry dropping both of us off at our different jobs before he goes back home. Although, today he has an interview, that he won't admit, but he's extremely nervous for.
As we drive in the car, Diane is usually singing loudly and especially terribly, but I can't sing myself so I can't particularly tell get her to stop, so I just join in sometimes. Harry stays silent most of the drive though, just listening, and sometimes we even play games. It's amazing how much these two still have their inner child and also act so much alike.
I'm happy for them.
And I like living with them. But I shouldn't depend on their home for too long. They may have plans that I am ruining.
Diane is dropped off first at a TV Production studio leaving me to be dropped last.
"Rauline, I've got to tell you something that's...." Harry trails off, sighing heavily and glancing at me. I look at him intently. "It's really important." He says.
I nod silently.
"But first, um...Diane and I have been dating for three years." He tells me. I furrow my brows. "Do you think it's the right time to...propose?" He asks.
My eyes widen as I let out a loud squeal, making him jerk the car slightly off of the road, but he gets back on track quickly. "Jesus Christ." He breathes.
"That's so cute! Harry being romantic, when does that ever happen?" I exclaim.
He rolls his eyes. "Seriously though, do you think it's too soon? Should I wait a couple of years. You both are girls, ya know?"
"You've just got to listen to your heart Harry. Is she the one you want to spend the rest of your life with?" I say, my heart racing with excitement for them.
I watch as a smile instantly grows on his lips and a light blush paints his cheeks as he stays quiet. "You don't need to answer that, lover boy. Just do it."
He sighs shakily. "Yeah. What's the worst that could happen?" He chuckles nervously.
I smile.
"I mean...she could potentially say no,...but-"
"She loves you Harry." I say, making him look at me as I give him a serious look. "No doubt about it that she loves you." I tell him, reassuringly patting his tense shoulder.
"I guess so." He mumbles, tapping his fingers against his chin.
I smile at him and turn up the radio to begin singing another song, getting Harry to sing with me.
LATER
I sigh heavily, doing another round of giving people mail for the second day on the east wing of the building. My feet are killing me, I choose to wear the wrong shoe today.
I feel myself get a bit happier when U finally reaching the last cubicle, which is Louis', but when I walk in there, he isn't there, making me feel completely relieved.
I place the mail on his cluttered desk before turning around, almost knocking into another body, making me stumble back and fall to the ground. "Shit." I mumble as I look up, seeing an amused Louis standing over me. He stretches his arm towards me for me to take his hand, but I don't take it. I look away and get up myself.
"Are you okay?"
I don't answer, but grab my cart and begin to walk away.
"I'm sorry for kissing you Rauline." He says loudly enough for me to hear. I stop and look at him to see his dark eyes staring back into mine intensely. "Do you forgive me?"
I purse my lips but nod my head. "I forgive you for that but nothing else." I tell him with a frown. He nods his head understandingly.
"Can we try last night again?"
I furrow my eyebrows. "What do you mean?"
"I want to invite you somewhere again and not fight about our relationship. I said we would just be friends. And that's how it's going to stay. I have self control and I'm going to use it." He says, smiling slightly.
I narrow my eyes at him skeptically.
"I'm not playing with you." He says, crossing his arms over his chest. "Never did, never will."
"Fine." I snap, looking away from him. "Where?"
"I'll call you." He tells me.
I sigh heavily, irritated, but I nod curtly and turn to walk away.
