"Fuck this, fuck that, fuck everyone." Diane mumbles, walking into the living room from the front door, glaring at the ground. I look at her with raised eyebrows as Harry walks in after her with a small, amused smile, shopping bags in his hands.
"What happened?" I ask, sitting up slightly.
Diane groans angrily, storming into the kitchen without looking or talking to me. I look at Harry.
"She's just embarrassed." He sighs, shrugging.
"What happened?" I ask again.
He sits next to me to look at the television. "So, we were at the mall, shopping for clothes for our trip to Florida. Diane tried on a dress and came out to show me. She liked it on herself and so did I. But then..."He sighs. "A woman said she was looking for that dress for her daughter. So... Diane told her that there are other stores that sell the dress and the woman said that she checked every place else and there was none. So then Diane said, "You snooze you lose"." Harry says, raising a finger up a wave it in the air to mock Diane, making me laugh quietly to myself. "And they proceeded to fight until eventually the women tore a piece of the dress off of her, and I had to cover her up so she can get back into the dressing room without people staring at her exposed ass."
"Oh shit."
He nods. "Yeah, and we also had to buy the dress."
"But you didn't even tear it."
"Diane was the one trying it on." He shrugs.
"And your not mad?"
"I'm trying to be the one that calms her down 'cause an angry Diane and an irritated Harry doesn't go well together." He whispers.
I smile.
"That was one crazy ass mama bear, Diane." I say as she walks back into the living room.
"Right?" She exclaims, throwing her arms up in the air."Harry is so calm,"
"Diane baby, it's okay. Just make some tea and sit down."
"It is not okay. I hope I see her again so I can shove a damn cactus up her dusty vagina."
"That would be a lot of blood and some police charges. And we don't need that right now." Harry says, standing up, walking over to the girl and putting a comforting hand behind her back. She nods quietly, sighing heavily.
"Sorry y'all. For my anger." She says, walking towards her bedroom.
"Oh Diane, stop." I reassure her.
Harry smiles slightly."Yeah Di, I love your anger when it's directed towards other people."
The dark skinned girl rolls her eyes and turns around to playfully slap Harry's cheek in a gentle manner before going into her bedroom and closing the door in Harry's face.
He shrugs. "I guess she needs some time alone." He sighs, setting the shopping bags on the floor in front of the door. "I'll be in the kitchen eating if you need me." He smiles.
"Mind if I join you?"
"Not at all."
THE NEXT DAY
"In college, I studied business." I tell the woman in front of me, sitting behind a wooden desk filled with documents and a picture of herself in a fancy frame.
"How does that make you qualified to be my assistant?" She asks, quirking up an eyebrow.
"Well, I've got to start somewhere and hopefully work my way up, right?" I chuckle as she stares into my eyes with a frown. But she doesn't smile back, just looks down again, writing something on a clipboard.
"Okay, well, I'm currently working as a waitress." I say. "But I also studied business so I'm hoping I can help with business stuff as well."
"Mail girl then."
I furrow my brows slightly. "Mail girl?" I repeat.
"Yes. You will hand out the mail to everyone in their cubicles every morning at seven o' clock. You will also have to listen to every one of my needs, for example, if I want coffee in my office, I expect it there in less than ten minutes."
I am intimidated by this woman's seriousness but nod nonetheless, wanting this job instead of working at the restaurant. I sigh shakily as a smile grows on my lips and she sticks out her hand for me to shake.
"So, it's a deal?" I ask, grabbing her hand hesitantly to shake it.
"Yes. Be here starting Monday at six thirty sharp."
I nod my head curtly at her. "Thank you." I say.
She nods, looking down silently as she waves me off before I stand up and turn around to leave her office with flushed cheeks.
When I make it outside into the cold air once again, I sit down on a bench to wait for the bus. My hair is whipping around my face, getting into my eyes and mouth.
"Rauline?" I hear someone say. I flicker my gaze to a man walking towards the bench. I narrow my eyes to see through the sun's rays. "Rauline Paisley." He says.
I notice how familiar his face is.
And then I realize, I do know this man, making a smile grow on my lips.
"Niall Horan?" I say, standing up to greet him. He chuckles.
"How are you?" He asks, embracing me into a quick hug suddenly. My eyes widen slightly at the move but I hug back before letting go just a few seconds later.
"I'm good. What about you?" I smile, feeling goosebumps raise on my arms. I glide my hands up and down my forearms.
"Good. Where have you been? It's been ages."
"I've... been here..." I say, trailing off awkwardly, hesitating to tell him the fact I was married for two years then divorced about a week ago. "What about you?"
"I'm great!" He exclaims. "I just got engaged." He grins.
"That's great!" I exclaim, forcing myself to smile. I cross my arms over my chest, feeling my heart begin to race quickly. I knew Niall from college, him and I were great friends but him and Louis didn't really know each other. But Niall and I were just friends and will continue to be. "When did you pop the question?"
"A month ago, Valentines Day actually."
"That's so sweet." I smile.
"So, what's your number? I'm so happy I got to see you again. We should talk more."
"Oh okay, sure." I nod, adding my number to his phone quickly.
"It was so nice to see you again, Rauli. I'll text you later." He says, turning around to walk away just as the bus pulls up to the curb.
I sigh shakily as I wave goodbye to him before turning to get onto the running vehicle.
LATER
A scream suddenly comes from Diane and Harry's room, instantly Harry and I look at each other with widened eyes.
Harry stands up quickly, rushing towards the room, me following quickly behind. And he slams the door open. "Diane?" He says, voice frantic.
"Harry! Guys!" Diane yells, running into the bedroom from the bathroom, a wide smile on her face as she jumps up and down, making the both of us relax instantly.
"What's up?" Harry sighs, walking towards her.
"I got the job as scriptwriter!" She exlaims.
I gasp, eyes widening.
"Fuck yes!" Harry yells.
"Congratulations!"
"I'm so damn happy!"
"We should celebrate!"
"Bake me a cake and call me Diane the scriptwriter because that's my fucking title now bitches!" She exclaims, running into the living room, me following behind her quickly, laughing.
"Harry the baker's got the cupcakes he had bought from the market in the fridge because he knew that something like this would happen soon."
"I bet you just bought those to binge on while you watched a shit ton of movies all day." Diane chuckles.
"So?" Harry snaps, rushing into the kitchen to get the sweet food. Diane shakes her head at the man and looks at me.
"I don't blame him." I shrug, smirking.
"Thank you, Rauli." Harry says, walking out with a plastic container of cupcakes in his hand. "Now let's binge on these and watch a shit ton of movies!" Harry exclaims.
"I'm in!" Diane exclaims.
LATER
NIGHTTIME
Thomas usually fell asleep at around nine. I was surprised to see him asleep last night, but the baby sitter probably just got the little boy to bed earlier yesterday.
It's seven, so I'm hoping that he is awake just so I could see his blue eyes light up and his energy to heighten when he gets excited of someone new in his presence.
I knock on the door before ringing the doorbell once.
It takes a while for the door to eventually open to come face to face with Louis with a t-shirt on and pajama pants. I furrow my brows slightly, confused. "Your home."
He blinks before nodding his head slowly. "Yeah."
"Why?"
He doesn't answer right away, we just glare at each other for a few seconds before he looks down at the floor. "Why are you here?" He asks.
"Thomas. Is he awake?" I ask.
Louis nods silently and let's me inside.
"Where is he?"
"In his room."
I walk towards the stairs and walk up them quickly, rushing down the hallway to the little boy's room before opening the door slowly.
He is on the floor, laying on his stomach as he plays on the floor with his toys.
His gaze flickers to me and a smile lights up his face. "Mommy!" He exclaims, standing up and opening his arms as he runs up to hug my legs. I chuckle quietly and run my hands through his short brown hair.
"Daddy! Mommy is back!" Thomas yells, looking past me and at the door. I turn around to see him leaning against the door frame, smiling down slightly at the small child.
"Did you tell her thank you for the chocolate?" He asks, walking inside of the room.
The boy looks up with widened blue eyes. "Thank you, mommy." He grins.
"Anytime, buddy." I say quietly.
"Are you going to stay here tonight, mommy?"
I purse my lips and force a smile on them. "Unfortunately-"
"Yeah, but mommy has to leave the very next day." Louis says, making me look back at him with the harshest glare I could muster up.
Thomas gasps, making me look back at him. "Really?" He asks, eyes filled with hope. I sigh shakily.
"Yes, but I'm leaving very early tomorrow so you might now see me."
"I'll make sure to wake up early enough to see you then." He says, putting his hands on his hips and giving me a determined look. I chuckle quietly.
"Okay." I sigh, turning around to look at Louis again who looks back at me with hard features.
"What are you going to do now?" Thomas asks.
"I'm going to take a quick shower then maybe we could go downstairs and watch some tv. Sound good!"
"Yeah!" Thomas exclaims before racing past me and down the hallway.
I snap my gaze to Louis and walk up to him. "What the fuck?" I snaps quietly, bringing my face up to his closely. "You know I don't want to stay here." I laugh bitterly, shaking my head in disbelief.
"When I say Thomas has missed you. Rauline, I mean he really misses you. He comes into the bedroom everyday asking to sleep with me because he had had a bad dream and then he asks about you."
My anger lessens slightly. I rub my eyes in frusteration.
"Okay." I sigh. "But I'm sleeping on the couch."
"Fine." He nods curtly.
I walk past him and walk towards the staircase.
"Where are you going?" He asks.
I look back at him. "Back to the place I've been staying to get some clothes." I tell him, furrowing my brows in annoyance.
"Oh okay." He nods slightly.
I lock my jaw and turn around to leave again.
