Hiereiai(Singular Female: Hiereia, Male: Hierei): A priest or priestess

"Just lay back." A tall golden-haired man soothed. Attempting to guide a panting greenette onto a winged chair.
"No!" The greenette struggled, pushing the man back weakly with her forearm.

The greenette let out a low groan and fell onto the chair. "It can't come now!" She yowled. Now pulling the blonde man close by his robes, contradicting her actions before. "Yagi, it can't come now, it's not time yet! The doctor isn't even in town!" The greenette protested, her hand now strangling Yagi's wrist.

"Everything will be alright," Yagi smiled, using his non-detained hand to rub the other's back. "I will gather some Hiereiai and they'll lead you through a quick and safe birth." He moved his hand up toward her viridian locks, combing through the messy strands.

"I'll go call for them now." He gently removed the woman's tight grip on his forearm and quickly ran to the door. "I will be back soon, please try to hold on for a while longer, Inko." Yagi then ran out of Inko's bedroom, leaving her to writhe in the chair.

Yagi did come back with a handful of Hiereiai and they swiftly moved Inko onto her padded cot. Yagi moved more pillows from his quarters onto the cot, so that Inko could be more comfortable.

"Thank you, I'll be waiting outside." Yagi notified the group of women, already making his way toward the door.

Inko reached out and grabbed his robed sleeve, a feeble attempt to stop the man from walking away.

"Stay, Yagi." She murmured, pleading with the man to sit back down beside her cot.

"But, I'm not allowed to-"

"As a Hierei, to pray that this child will come out healthy." Inko quipped, tugging at the sleeve. Yagi sighed and kneeled beside Inko. "I pray you are in good faith with Metanoia." He jested, moving his hand to intertwine with Inko's sweat lace one, his other made its way into her hair.

Inko let out a low groan and squeezed Yagi's hand, making the man wince.

The room was filled with the cries of a newborn, the tired pants of a new mother, and the hushed and scared whispers of the Hiereiai in the room.

After minutes had passed, Inko called out to the group. "Can I hold my child?" Her voice was scratched and worn from the whole ordeal. The Hiereiai looked back at her agitatedly, but then Yagi came out of the small circle with a small blanketed baby in his arms. Inko expected him to be smiling, crying even, but his face was turned into an almost horrified expression.

Inko hesitantly reached her hand's out to receive the child when Yagi neared.
"Is..is something wrong?" She stressed, scanning Yagi's expression.

Yagi didn't respond-no one in the room did- he carefully handed Inko the newborn, his horror was replaced with an almost sorrowful look.

Once he gave the child to Inko, it had stopped crying. And that's when Inko began to panic, there had to be something wrong with the child, if there wasn't, none of the Hiereiai would have acted so disengaged.

She quickly pushed the blanket off of the baby's face, hoping that her firstborn hadn't drawn their last breath.

"Yagi! You scared me half to death! What's your problem!?" Inko hollered, swatting Yagi's arm. The baby had big doe beaming parakeet green eyes and freckles littered their adorable face.

"Is it a boy?" She looked over at Yagi, who was still out of it. His eyes were glued to the infant, his usual tranquil sapphire eyes were stony. "Yagi..?"

"It's a boy." One of the Hiereiai confirmed coldly, she was cleaning her hands off with an already stained cloth.

Inko grinned and looked back at her son lovingly. "Hello my, Izuku," She cupped his small face. Izuku gurgled and looked up at his mother. "Wel-"

Inko let out a shriek and almost threw her child. "The-there.." Her throat tightened and her tongue stopped moving, out of a corner of the blanket, a small basil green snake poked its head out.

Izuku, who was startled by his mother's outburst, began to cry.
Inko slowly reached and took the blanket completely off of the infant's head, and they're attached to his scalp were what looked like hundreds of little ophidians.

"Yagi- what happened..?"

After the birth of Izuku, only Yagi came to Inko's room. The woman had been bedridden for the last couple of nights, there were some complications with the birth, and she was still in a state of shock.

Inko had Izuku's crib moved to the farthest corner, away from her. She refused to look at him, he was a monster.

"Inko?" Yagi called as he opened the door. "Can we talk?" He walks into the room and gently shuts the door behind him. "It's about, Izuku." Yagi sat down on the floor next to the cot.

"Okay.." Inko nodded, keeping her head down, and picked at her fingers.

"The other Hiereiai and I were talking about what we should do, and we thought that it would be best if we sent it to a camp."  Immediately Inko's head shot up to the cradle in the corner. She was afraid of what the child could be, but a camp? No. There was no way she'd ever send anyone to one, let alone a baby.

"Yagi..a camp? That's the absolute best option?" Inko doubted this was her child, her blood. "The others are beginning to grow scared," Yagi took Inko's hands into his, pulling them close to his chest.

"They are convinced that this is a bad omen, a curse." Yagi looked at the crib in the corner of the room as well. A tense silence formed, Inko wasn't sure what she should do.

The greenette pulled her hands out of the man's grip and shakily used them to help herself get out of the bed. Yagi, who was still staring at the crib, hadn't noticed Inko hobbling over to the infant. Her legs screamed at her with every step she took, but she kept creeping towards the corner.

"Inko!" Yagi had finally snapped out of his trance and quickly moved to Inko's side. He reached out to stop her and guide her back to her bed, but the woman pushed him away. "Let me walk." Her voice was small but demanding, she continued to stumble to the crib. Not letting Yagi slow her down.

Yagi kept his distance but stayed by her side, ready to catch her if she fell or collapsed. But the two made it without any incident.

Inko stood in front of the crib, looking down into it. Izuku was asleep, his face calm as he released soft snores, and Inko's pain seemed to wash away.

Carefully, Inko reached down and picked Izuku up. The infant seemed to lean into his mother's hold, and one of his tiny hands grabbed a fist full of Inko's chiton.

Inko studied the baby, the small Snakes on his head were sleeping as well, and under them, you could see little hairs growing. She couldn't help but let a smile form on her previously upset face.

Inko didn't look away from Izuku and she called out to the man, "Yagi," The blonde stepped forward and glanced down at the child. "I think I would like to keep this child." Inko finished, looking at Yagi. His face morphed from astonished to a restrained smile.

"If that is what you want, then I will not protest." Yagi then left the room, and Inko frowned, it pained her to see her friend unhappy but, Izuku was her child. And she would fight for him to stay in her arms.
