- chapter 5 -

When Felix woke up the next morning, he was alone in Hyunjin's big bed - or so he thought. He stretched to wake up as he slowly sat up - the sun was already high in the sky, making the snow shine, which had settled over the city like powdered sugar.

Looking around more closely, he suddenly saw the blond hanging half over the edge of the bed, threatening to fall off at any moment. "Oh fuck." he cursed lowly as he pulled Hyunjin into the middle of the bed. But the taller one slept on, unmoved, and curled up tighter in the covers.

Had he taken up so much space that Hyunjin had to lie at the edge?

However, vague memories of waking up in the middle of the night with Hyunjin clinging to him flashed through his mind. But he wasn't sure if that had actually happened or if it was just a dream - after all, the older seemed to have been sleeping almost on the floor.

He finally got up and shuffled first to the bathroom and then to the kitchen. If he had already spent the night at Hyunjin's, he could make them breakfast - or rather lunch, since it was already shortly after 12.

But when he opened the fridge, it looked rather empty - not to mention that Felix's cooking skills were anything but fabulous. After a little more searching, however, he found Tteok, as well as the rest of the ingredients he needed for Tteokbokki - a dish he could make with ease.
So in a few minutes he prepared the food and also put the tableware for eating on the kitchen island and just as he was about to put the Tteokbokki on the counter, suddenly Hyunjin sat sleepily on one of the bar stools.

"Dude! ... you scared me," Felix had to laugh in shock.

But Hyunjin only yawned in response and blinked lazily - oh right, there still was the breakup.... "You've been cooking."

"First of all - Good morning. But yup, freshly made Tteokbokki.", Felix grinned back at him anyway and put some of the food on the blond's plate before taking some himself.

"Thank you, looks really good. Did you sleep well at least?"

The silver-haired nodded as he sat down across from him and gleefully stuffed some of the food into his mouth. "Normal I think. And you?"

"Hmm. Better than I thought," he said with a smile.

Felix almost choked on the rice cake before downing it with water. Because that wasn't typical Hyunjin behavior, at least not after a breakup.

Because the silver-haired could still remember Hyunjin's first breakup - with Jihe - quite clearly. At that time, Hyunjin had mainly cried out to Jeongin and him. That's how he knew that he had never smiled in the first few days, had never even lifted a corner of his mouth to convey any emotions other than sadness and anger.

To be honest, it gave Felix the creeps a little to see Hyunjin suddenly so normal. Even if something warm tingled in him and he wondered whether he would have to throw up after yesterday's beer and Genshu.

He chose not to address him about it. It would probably be stupid to ask someone why he smiled after a breakup when that was a good sign. At least that's what Felix decided for himself.

No further comment was made about the fact that they had shared a bed or that Hyunjin might have clung to him at night. Sharing the bed could easily be excused by the amount of alcohol they had consumed the night before - besides, it wasn't the first time they had woken up like this after an alcohol-soaked night. Moreover, physical closeness had always been commonplace in their clique.

Felix left a little later after eating and a few encouraging nudges on Hyunjin's side. He was glad that he had neither lectures nor dance lessons that day and could simply recover - not only from the last exhausting days and alcohol but also from the confusing thoughts that had arisen after that night. Since something was wobbling in the back of his mind that made him feel a vague feeling of satisfaction that Hyunjin and Jisung were no longer together. But barely had this formed, he stopped abruptly on his way home.

It was already the busy afternoon traffic in Seoul nevertheless he stopped in the middle of the rush on the sidewalk. Ignoring the crowds of people pushing past him, he turned his gaze to the cloudless sky.

Back when Hyunjin had confided in him that he had a crush on Jisung, he had preferably wanted to make him a head shorter. - How could he even think of such thoughts? Did he want to completely ruin their friendship in the clique? - Only to become jealous a short time later of the emerging relationship between his two friends. To make matters worse, he had then developed feelings for Jisung and would have undeniably loved to fight Hyunjin over him.

But that was then, three years ago. He lived in the present, he should not have such thoughts. He did not understand himself.

Felix blinked in irritation when the ringing of his phone threw him back to reality and took his phone out of his pocket. Jisung's name was written in bold letters on the screen. Honestly surprised, he looked at the phone in his hand as the insane feeling that accepting the call would be betraying Hyunjin crept into his thoughts. But, that was nuts - Jisung was as much his friend as Hyunjin.

"Hi?", he finally answered the call and continued on his way towards the bus stop. "Hey Lix...", Jisung's voice was thick and very reminiscent of Hyunjin's shattered state last night. "How's Hyunie?"

The silver-haired had to smile softly when the other asked the question so worriedly and lovingly. "I think, he's doing okay, considering the circumstances. He needs to process all of this and come to terms with this sudden change."

"Does he hate me?", his raspy voice judging, the Australian could already imagine that Jisung wasn't really doing that much better than Hyunjin. "No, he wouldn't be able to do that, he lo-.... he likes you way too much. And I think you know that, too," Felix replied as he boarded the bus, purposely not using the word love.

"Exactly, that's why I'm so worried. My poor Hyunjin-no, I just mean Hyunjin. Oh god, Lix, what am I doing here anyway?" The silver-haired would like to know that too. "What if this was a mistake? What if my feelings just went crazy for a little while? Maybe I should get back together with him? I mean, what if -" "Ah-ah, no what-ifs. Let's not even start on that, okay? Sungie, if you don't have feelings towards someone other than Hyunjin, then this whole thing wouldn't have happened at all. So this thing with Minho is real - real enough to make you falter. And there's no point in covering it up, getting back together with Hyunjin, and doing as if everything is fine. That would only hurt both of you." the Australian interrupted him worriedly.

From the other end of the line, he could only hear a sniffle before Jisung muttered - probably crying - "Did he tell you about Minho? ... Do you have time to come over for a minute?" "I'm a step ahead of you and already on a bus to your place. Are you in the dorm?" smiled Felix slightly into the phone. The college could already be seen flashing from a distance between other buildings. "Yes. You're an angel, Lix. You know that?"

Felix spent the rest of the afternoon with Jisung and Changbin and Chan, who joined them a little later - the three of them sharing the apartment. They watched The Amazing Spiderman together and ate cheese puffs, but during the whole time Hyunjin never once disappeared from Felix's thoughts - the worry about the blond lingered around his subconscious like a shadow.
