36: Anger Prone
And God help anyone who crossed your path. You weren't even killing to eat at this point.
Luckily, the streets were relatively empty, but the death toll was rising. As you and your baby slunk from shadow to shadow, you waited for your prey to come into sight. Then, when you verified that they were alone, your would whip your tail out, piercing their heart and taking it out with your whip-like kagune. That was the only part you were bothering to eat at the moment. Otherwise, you gathered soft organs for your baby and called it good. Bones and fat were too heavy to carry back right now.
Working your way across town, your diaper bag was getting heavy with the pieces of human that you were collecting and you thought about calling it a night, especially as the rain began to pour down.
But you weren't done. Still furious, you went to the rooftops to look for humans vis their umbrellas. Your kagune had an impressive range and even from a few stories up, you were able to pick off the pathetic creatures like fish in a barrel.
It was gloriously thrilling to feel your slick kagune slide through their soft, feeble flesh like butter. You liked the feeling of their thoracic muscles clenching around your ghoulish organ.
You chuckled to yourself.
"You see, Yukizou, Mommy doesn't hunt because it wouldn't be fair. My range is so great that the humans wouldn't, or I suppose don't, know what hit them. That's the only thing I thank my mother for. That and I suppose introducing me to your awful father. Can you believe him? Having the audacity to almost cry in front of me? He was always more of a ghoul than I was." You pushed your hair out of your face, happy that the rain hid your own tears. "I hate the humans, Yukizou, but I hate the ghouls too. I hate everyone but you right now. No one understands us."
For a few hours, you just jumped roof to roof, collecting organs of unsuspecting victims. You only took shelter when you began to feel a slight chill and your bag felt a bit heavy.
"Fine, fine, fine. That's enough. At least a dozen people, I'm sure. The news will have a ball." You wiped at your eyes, still upset. "Let's go home."
Yukizou was already asleep, but you spoke to him anyway. It was just an awful night. It was nights like these that made you want to go back to your mother, just the smallest bit. But of course you both couldn't and wouldn't do that.
As you walked home on the streets, you realized your shirt and the wrap that held Yukizou to you were covered in blood. You sighed, thinking about how you would get that out.
Approaching your house, you noticed a dark figure looming on your steps. Carefully, you melted into the shadows, about one hundred yards back. You whipped your kagune out and sent it flying at the figure silently.
And then it spoke.
