Meeting Penguin & The Uncle.
"I rem...member you." Kyo's voice still scratchy and her throat sore and fragile but she refuses to write notes to people every time she has something to say, her eyes observing the male stood beside her bed as he gently removes the tube from her hand.
At least speaking has become slightly easier due to having many drinks of water.
"I remember you too, we held the door open for ya, right?" Penguin's question earning him a subtle nod in response, she knew the word on his hat spoke to her for some reason, she just didn't know why at the time.
Penguin...Penguin and Shachi, wasn't it?
"I'm uh, sorry for checking you out that day." His sudden apology destabilises her however, her brow raising as she quizzically stares up at the boy while he sticks a fresh bandage over her hand where the tube was previously. "We didn't know who you were at the time, y'know?"
Huh? Did they both do it or something?
Her mind was very preoccupied at the time, she had just avoided being hit by a train, it shouldn't come as such a surprise that she didn't realize what the pair was doing when her back was turned.
"We'll...just forget it happened." At least she knows her lover's friends find her somewhat attractive, that's apparently supposed to be quite flattering, although she just finds it rather awkward herself. "H-How long will I be here?"
I need to get back to work.
"Oh, not too long." The boy calmly assures as he refills her plastic cup with water before taking the clipboard from the end of her bed and beginning to read through it. "You're recovering well from having your stomach pumped, we're just keeping you in for another day because the drug given to you is still unfamiliar to us, we wanna make sure it doesn't pose any further danger to your health before sending you home."
"I see..." Her eyes falling closed as she leans back into her pillow, being a patient might grant her a little more rest than she would usually get but it sure is boring.
"Now, it's almost time for your dinner, would you like stewed strawberries or chicken soup?" He questions with an upbeat tone, drawing a curious frown to her features as she glances up at him once again, she'd assume the menu is oddly specific due to her being unable to eat solid foods.
Neither of those things sound appealing right now.
But if she doesn't eat then she'll only stress Law out more.
"...Strawberries."
"Alright, I'll let the nurse know." The young doctor taking her pen from the table and writing her answer along his wrist before returning it, a slight flicker of concern flashing in his eyes as he lowly hums to himself. "Can I ask you a question?"
"You've asked a few...what's another?" Hopefully it isn't one that requires a long-winded answer, the girl reaching for her water and taking a couple of small sips in attempts to soothe the burning sensation in the back of her throat whilst listening to Penguin speak.
"What made you take a drink from a stranger?"
"Hm, stupidity." She admittedly didn't see the woman as a threat, something her father would go ballistic over no doubt, he has always told her that people aren't often what they seem and to be wary of them.
Lord knows he would have plenty to say if he were present.
"Heh, you can say that again." The boy's jest only earning him a subtle pout in return, though he doesn't seem bothered by it, he's probably used to such glances if he's friendly with Law after all. "It was great to finally meet you though, you're a lot nicer than I was expecting."
"Nice?" It isn't often people refer to her as such things, especially not upon first meeting her.
"Yeah, Law didn't say much about you when we asked...I think he's a bit shy." His observation drawing a discreet smirk to Kyo's lips, she knows the man has his moments of fluster but the image of him being like it behind her back also makes her quite proud, most men are said to be very different with their friends but not him, it would seem. "But he did say you were a witty one, we were kinda expecting you to be more mean."
You haven't wronged me.
"Sorry to interrupt," Another voice suddenly sounds, drawing both Kyo's and Penguin's attention to the doorway where a woman with brown curly locks stands, a tall man with blonde hair lingering behind her. "You have a visitor, Miss Dracule."
Her surprise only elevating when the tall man enters the room, a large grin on his face as he stares down at her from beyond his purple-tinted sunglasses.
Doflamingo...?
She doesn't miss the concerned glance Penguin shoots to the man either as he reluctantly exits the room along with the nurse, pulling the door closed behind him and leaving the two alone, much to the redhead's dismay.
"Can I help you?" She calmly questions while setting her drink back down on the table, her eyes studying what little parts of his face she could see, although it only makes his smile grow wider, a somewhat sinister chuckle escaping his lips.
He's tough to read since he hides behind glasses and a grin but his energy doesn't seem at all pleasant, he radiates something strange, she hasn't felt a presence like it before but it makes her rather uncomfortable.
"You sound awful, fufufu...~" His slight insult causing her brows to knit, her eyes focused solely on his shades, she can feel him staring at her so she'll at least try to withhold the weird man's glower. "You were drugged, were you not? By a drink named The Irish Warrior?"
Her brow twitches at that. "How--?"
"Don't worry, it had nothing to do with me." She suspects that there is a point to this, he doesn't seem like the kind to bring up such a topic without reason, he's after something. "Well, not directly, anyway."
"What do you want?" Her husky tone probably makes her sound harsher than intended but with a man like this, a slightly colder demeanour is likely a good thing.
"It's not about what I want, girly." He coos, voice riddled with playful teasing as he waltzes toward her bed, a massive sense of confidence radiating from him - this man has an ego that could challenge Hitler's itself. "It's about what you want. I know where you can find the person who did this to you, I might even know somebody who could...take care of them, if you do something for me first, of course."
I can look after myself.
Knowing where they can be found might be helpful but...
"I have nothing to offer you."
"That's where you're wrong, child." Another giggle escaping the man's grinning lips as he takes a seat on the edge of her bed, her legs shifting away from him slightly though her eyes never leave his face and her expression never wavers, still trying to keep her cold and confident façade as she attempts to stare him down. "You're a curator, you can authenticate things for me, perhaps even if one or two items aren't entirely genuine."
"No." There isn't even an ounce of hesitation in her answer, she didn't even need to think it over.
"Come now, don't be so hasty." Doffy carelessly coos although she can see a frown already beginning to crease his forehead, he's likely glaring at her from behind those glasses of his. "Pawn shops tend not to double check when you've authenticated something so there's no risk."
"That's because we are trusted, we have a reputation for being thorough, a reputation that I will not jeopardize for you." The more she speaks, the more her voice falls into more of a whisper, her tonsils burning with each word but she still holds Doflamingo's stare, not missing how the creases on his forehead seem to multiply with her answer, his smile slowly morphing into a scowl.
"Hmph, I had thought my nephew would have more interesting taste in women." That comment stings slightly, not that she lets it show. The man certainly knows how to hit one where it hurts. "Average-looking and not very smart, do you have anything at all going for you?"
It takes some effort for her not to become visibly agitated by his comments, although on the inside she is both shaken and irritated, he's only insulting her because she pissed him off, she knows that.
And yet, she can't help but wonder if there is some truth behind his words.
"Yes, I have stewed strawberries on the way, so if you're quite finished..." She calmly rasps, her pale hand gesturing toward the door as a small smirk tugs on her lips.
Her smugness doesn't seem to impress him in the slightest however, her brown orbs watching as he rises back to his feet, his expression unreadable as he begins to make his way back toward the door before he finally stops, glancing over his shoulder as his grin returns to his features.
"I almost liked you."
And with that, he leaves just as leisurely as he came.
And she can't help but feel like she just made one hell of a mistake.
What a creepy bastard...
