Lunch With Law.
Everything has gone so slow today, even trying to get in touch with Sabo.
She'd chalk it down to him merely being hungover since he doesn't yet have a job and although she didn't really see him last night, she'd assume he was also drinking.
Her fingers idly fiddling with the chocolate bar in her hands as she rereads the joke, she had intended on trying to eat it while at work but the second she got into the door, she was bombarded by guests.
There was a school field trip planned for the day, one that her father had neglected to mention so she had to act as the guide, now here she is- planning to eat it while waiting for Trafalgar, attempting to peel the packaging open but she's distracted when she feels a presence arrive beside her, Law looking slightly tired and dishevelled as he sits next to her in the booth.
His closeness certainly stirs her somewhat, she had expected him to sit on the opposite side, her heart feeling as if it were rattling around inside her chest as she forces a confident exterior, smirking up at the raven while setting the chocolate down once again and instead reaching for her coffee.
"You look like you've been busy, Trafalgar."
She notices how he's wearing most of his casual attire above all else; blue jeans and a loose hoodie, although she doesn't miss the black shirt collar subtly poking out from underneath the thick clothing.
Perhaps she did overdress a little for a coffee break, but considering she had to give a tour around the museum today, she'd wager it kind of worked in her favour regardless.
Secondly, she notices the little details in his face, from his close contact and her modest height, she can see his eyes clearly; taking note of the dark circles underneath each orb and how his irises seem to have a little hint of grey mixed in with the gold, she hadn't realized it before.
He's quite beautiful...
"I had to perform a heart transplant today, it was tiring." The raven simply murmurs as his eyes scan the drinks menu, already pointing to the coffee he wants as Makino approaches the table, the woman writing it down before she leaves again. It would seem the doctor is a regular here. "You look like you've had a productive day yourself."
She doesn't miss the slight smirk etched into his lips as his gaze slides down toward her clothes before returning to her face, a deep heat rising to her cheeks and her brain practically melting into mush.
"I had to give a tour today, I've also been trusted to re-design a layout surrounding the Napoleon wars." The raven softly frowning at her information while Makino places the coffee down, only speaking once the waitress had walked away.
"So, to point out the obvious, you're not a night guard." He lowly rumbles although he had already guessed as much prior, earning a small scoff from the girl as she shakes her head.
"No, I am the assistant curator." Her answer notably stirring the man, his dark brows knitting and jaw falling lightly ajar as he processes the information, his thoughtful gaze never leaving her face before he finally speaks again.
"Assistant curator...I thought that job was reserved for Hawk-ya's daughter. That's you?" Apparently he hadn't guessed that on his own, though when he thinks about it, it does make sense. It explains her bond with Shanks, her odd speech pattern, her dark fashion sense and above all else, that stare of hers.
"That's me." She confirms with a mildly nervous smile, Mihawk could be enough to scare him away no doubt but she braces herself for that, her brown orbs watching as Law merely brings his coffee to his lips, taking a subtle sip but his smirk doesn't fade for even a second.
"...I knew you had some surprises in you, Kyo-ya." He conclusively murmurs after what feels like a century, placing his coffee back down but not seeming interested in leaving yet, his cool exterior causing the girl's head to tilt ever so gingerly to the side.
"Does it bother you?" His eyes immediately returning to her face as mild confusion fills his features, urging her to elaborate. "Who my father is?"
"Why would it?"
"Well, most people would find him intimidating..." He doesn't seem to react to her words however, his eyes returning to the menu as he lowly hums to himself. "Especially if they took his daughter on a date."
"Oh? So you see this as a date, do you?"
"He doesn't want me befriending men either."
"That doesn't answer my question." Law's smirk only widening as he slides the menu across the table toward the redhead. "What do you want to eat?" Although his smirk does soon vanish when she slides the menu back over to him.
"I've got a chocolate bar, I don't need anything else." Again he returns the menu to her.
"That isn't gonna fill you up." He can't quite place what's gotten into her suddenly, she doesn't appear uncomfortable and it doesn't seem like she has lost interest in him so he can safely assume she doesn't want the date to end early, a studious flicker in his eyes as he stares down at her.
For once she isn't holding his gaze, her focus instead glued to the menu, her hands softly trembling as she picks it up and begins reading through it. Everything looks so unappealing and when she spots something that does sound nice, it takes too long to cook, her break will be over by the time it's ready.
"Hm...I don't know, what are you having, Trafalgar?" A question she almost regrets asking when he leans into her side, reaching over to point a finger at an item on the laminated paper.
"The chocolate sundae." It would seem the boy likes ice cream, though her mind is much too fogged to even register that, her body stiffen as she forces a small nod of her head in understanding.
Her brain focused solely on the fact that his arm is still currently pressing against hers, his closeness stimulating every single one of her senses, of course she still tries to play it cool despite her pinkened face.
"I will have one too then." She isn't too sure if she'll even like it, she has never tried a sundae before but at least she won't need to explain her troubles with eating this way, it's not exactly something she talks about.
In fact, her father is the only person who knows she struggles with meal times.
Her eyes instinctively resting on one of Law's hands while the other gestures to Makino, the raven being the one to order whilst Kyo reads his tattoo once again, her brows knitting as her fingers lightly reach out to his own and brushes against his inked skin.
The action naturally draws in Law's bewildered gaze, his eyes shifting from his fingers to her face, she isn't staring at him so he'd conclude she isn't attempting to seduce him at all, in fact her stare is glued to his digits.
"What inspired this piece of art?" She finally questions while her thumb rolls along the word, his hand noticeably twitching a little at the sensation as he hums to himself, seeming slightly hesitant but he eventually responds nonetheless.
"It's a reminder. As a surgeon, I fight death every day, but sometimes I need to remind myself that I can't always defeat it." A dark answer but one that doesn't make her flinch at least, her expression calm as she processes his words and her gaze returning to his face. "Why? Do you find it creepy?"
A faint frown etching into her features as she honestly answers; "I suppose it is quite creepy, yes." Not even noticing how the raven stiffens at that before his eyes return to his fingers, she's still toying with them however, a small smile tugging on her lips as she continues. "But I grew up around creepy so it's a comfort to me."
Though it soon occurs to her that she's probably weirding him out a little, she's almost certain that randomly touching one's fingers is considered odd, immediately retracting her hand at that realization.
Great, now if Pa doesn't scare him away, I will.
Little does she know that her answer actually relaxed him a bit, a small hum rumbling in his throat as he gazes down at her with curiosity pooling in his eyes, barely paying attention as Makino sets down the sundaes before making her way back behind the counter.
"What do you mean you grew up around creepy?"
The redhead playfully scoffing at his question before she begins explaining. "Apart from the fact that Dracule Mihawk is my father?" A subtle grin spreading across her lips as Law slides her sundae over to her, the girl automatically scooping up a piece of the ice cream with a spoon while resuming. "I grew up in a castle positioned in the middle of nowhere, it had been abandoned for centuries before Pa came across it and made it into his home. I'd hear a lot of strange noises at night while he was away but over time, I grew used to it."
She hesitates for a moment while leaning in to eat the ice cream, anxiety looming over her as the thought of being sick in front of this man taunts her mind, although she manages to push the worries aside and slips the ice cream into her mouth as nonchalantly as possible.
She had thought it would make her feel unwell but shockingly, it doesn't.
It simply just melts on her tongue, it feels more like drinking a tasty liquid rather than eating food. How strange.
"I see...I can't help but wonder though, if you liked living there so much, why did you move into a small city apartment?" His question is harmless enough, curiosity very evident in his eyes as he consumes a spoonful of the ice cream himself, noticeably not moving from her side though - even though they're no longer looking at the menu, he still remains so close.
He is very warm though...
"Pa and I were beginning to have our differences," She starts off vague, trying her best to put her words into respectable sentences before speaking them. "He got himself a little girlfriend, I got myself a little piercing, you know how it goes. We clashed. I was taught to always pay my own way through life so I couldn't exactly afford my own castle but the city isn't so bad and your cousin is quite amusing."
She doesn't miss how Law smirks at that, the expression almost resembles a genuine smile. "Well, I personally found Lot-ya quite annoying to live with, but it's been a while now so maybe she has grown up. You do seem to have a personality that would fit with hers though."
Kyo merely scoffing as a playful smirk spreads across her lips, instinctively taking another spoonful of ice cream and bringing it to her lips. "So I'm annoying?" She softly teases before taking the sweet treat in her mouth, it's only now that she realizes how much Law has eaten in comparison to her, half of his sundae is already gone.
Do all doctors eat so quickly?
The raven clearly frowning to himself while letting out a low hum in disagreement, swallowing some of his ice cream before he speaks. "I meant that you are a good match-up, not that your personalities are alike." Though once he notices the smirk on her lips, he visibly relaxes, matching her expression as he tilts his head to the side inquisitively. "Do you find yourself annoying, Kyo-ya?"
She had admittedly found it slightly amusing to watch him explain himself, she hadn't expected him to bother given his confidence usually, that was a look of nervousness in his eyes - she sees it far too often when people speak to her father.
But does that mean he finds me intimidating? Why?
She shoves her thoughts aside once again when she realizes how silent she had gone, straightening herself up in her chair as she frowns to herself in deep thought. "I...suppose some people find me annoying, yes, but I don't claim to care much for what they think."
" No, you don't strike me as the sort to care about stranger's opinions..." She doesn't miss the small hint of intrigue in the raven's eyes at those words, his attention slowly diverting back to his ice cream as he finishes the last of it meanwhile his watch begins making a noise, only falling silent when he presses a button on it. "Unfortunately my break is over but I won't mind seeing you again, Kyo-ya."
Seeing me?
"Yes, of course. I have the weekend off so I suppose we could see each other then."
Her suggestion drawing an impish scoff from the raven's lips as he rises from the seat, leaving half of his coffee and the empty sundae bowl on the table as a thoughtful expression fills his face. "Not at one of Freckle-ya's parties, I hope."
"No? Such a spoilsport, Trafalgar." Not that she'd want to attend a party, but she does enjoy teasing this man.
"Here's an idea." Suddenly he radiates confidence, his smug smirk still playing on his lips as he takes out his wallet, grabbing some cash and setting it down on the table. "I have a dog who likes walks, we could take him out together on Saturday, if you're not too busy."
"Oh? You kept that quiet." She tries to ignore the small flutter inside her chest at that claim, she likes to appear cold and tough but animals are one of her weaknesses for sure, an uncontrollable smile gracing her lips as she curiously tilts her head to the side. "What type of dog do you have?"
"Great Pyrenees, his name is Bepo."
"I see. Then yes, we can walk Bepo on Saturday, if you wish."
"12pm?"
"12pm."
Her smile never fading as the surgeon takes his leave, her heart still feeling as if it was tingling inside her chest, though she quickly finds herself feeling quite cold now that he's gone, especially along the shoulder that he was previously leaned against.
A confusing emotion setting deep inside, though it fades when her phone vibrates, the redhead reaching into her bag and taking out the device before reading the message displayed on-screen.
Sabo:
"Yep, I got your camera, caught some good photos too! Wanna collect it after work?"
It looks like her day is beginning to improve, though she isn't sure if she can stomach the rest of this damned sundae.
