Loyalty and Hard Work.

'Ship formation is what won The Battle of Trafalgar...'

Kyo's brown orbs skim the pages of the book laid out before her, Law insisted she stays with him for a couple of days since she discharged herself from the hospital early, this way he can at least monitor her.

She returns to work when the couple of days are over.

Sabo had booked a school field trip for an elementary school learning about Napoleon, of course the blonde had no idea what he was doing so he accidentally booked it on her birthday, giving her less than a week to prepare for the tour and undoubtedly making her 'special' day a very stressful one.

Perhaps it's a good thing Ace got her birthdate wrong when planning the party.

Her pale fingers softly turning the page of her book while her free hand is being held by Law's, she has learnt that he struggles to stay mad at her when she shows him affection so she naturally takes advantage of that, especially after discharging herself from the hospital - he was not impressed by it in the slightest but he has since relaxed.

He's even reading a book of his own, her thumb delicately rolling over his knuckles and not at all missing how his grip on her subtly tightens to gain her attention.

"Why didn't you tell the police her name?" His sudden question drawing a curious hum from the redhead's lips, swiftly finishing the paragraph she's on before her stare meets his own, urging him to continue. "Ginrummy's. When they asked if you knew who drugged you, you said no. Why?"

He's an observant one, there's no point in lying to him.

"Because I have plans for her." Her voice still somewhat croaky but at least speaking doesn't hurt as much now, she notices how he frowns at her answer, his brows knitting and lips parting, clearly about to argue with her until she intercepts him. "I won't be directly involved, don't fret."

"What's the plan?" The surgeon tugging her hand when she doesn't immediately reply, stress shining as clear as day in his eyes. "What are you gonna do, Kyo-ya?!"

"Don't yell at me!" Her snappy response silences him instantly, though guilt is quick to hit her for that, he's only worried for her safety after all. A sigh drifting from her lips as she tugs his hand up toward her mouth, pressing a delicate kiss against his tan knuckles in an attempt to calm him before she continues. "It would seem that Sheepshead really is a beer brewer and he is partnered with Ginrummy, they're a struggling business, so Shanks is going to ensure their business fails."

The redheaded male had told her bits of his plan; he's going to get somebody to drug the beer before they send it out, it'll make many people sick but it shouldn't be fatal, the beer will then be tested and the drug uncovered, resulting in the closure of their business as well as their arrests when the cops search their premises to find the same mystery drug they've been giving to people around town.

Of course, he thought it was best she didn't know any further details like when it'll happen or the names of those who will be helping him but that doesn't really matter to her.

In most circumstances she wouldn't agree with putting people out of business but these two have pissed her off twice now; almost getting her hit by a train is one thing but then having the audacity to drug and try to rob her also?

No, they deserve this.

"What does Akagami-ya get out of it?" Law's tone riddled with distrust but at least he sounds a little more composed after her reassurance, the raven leaning across the table to get a clearer look at her face while awaiting her answer, his thumb gently rolling along her chin. "Would he really be willing to help you for free?"

Usually she'd ask him just what he means by that, possibly even getting a little offended since it's clear he's worried about some form of blackmail, however the way he touches her seems to melt her brain into mush, silencing whatever sass she might have had.

Looks like they're both suckers when it comes to affection.

"Hm...I wouldn't know exactly, but it's a brewery and Shanks loves his alcohol. I'm sure he has an ulterior motive but as long as it's helping me, I don't care." She doesn't miss how Law's frown deepens at that, his hand lightly trailing down toward her chest and taking the silver cross hanging from her necklace between his fingers, staring at it closely as he speaks.

"So you're only getting help from Akagami-ya? No one else?" His question earning him a small nod to return, though it does confuse her somewhat, her father isn't present so who else would she be getting aid from? "Because I was told Doflamingo visited you in hospital."

Oh, him.

"Yes, he did offer to help." She immediately admits, she was planning on telling him regardless but just hadn't the chance yet due to other things on her mind. "However, he wanted something in return that I couldn't grant, so I'll instead work with the sources that I trust."

Much to her surprise, that doesn't reassure him at all, in fact his frown slowly morphs into more of a scowl.

"What the hell did he want from you?" It doesn't take a genius to figure out what's on his mind from that point, his golden eyes harbouring a slight flame to them and his voice sounding almost like a growl as his brow subtly twitches.

"Oh, nothing like that." Her tone as casual as always, in fact she could barely contain the small smirk that's trying to etch itself across her lips, he's a protective lover and although she prides herself on being independent, it does feel nice to know he cares; it brings a warm and almost-fluttery feeling to her chest, one that she is slowly becoming more and more familiar with. "He just wanted me to authenticate things for him, even if they were fakes."

Did he really think his uncle would want sex from me? Is he insane?

"Hmph...yeah, I suppose that sounds like him." The surgeon's pitch slowly calming as his orbs return to her necklace, his fingers still caressing the little cross as he sighs. "Just stay away from him, Kyo-ya."

"Funny, my father said the same thing."

"I'm inclined to agree with Hawk-ya on this one."

She observes the raven for a few moments, watching as he releases her necklace and leans back in his chair, bringing his coffee to his lips while his stare flickers down to the medical journal laid out before him.

Of course, he has obliterated her intentions to revise so she merely closes her book before rising to her feet, circling around the table to sit in his lap instead. Her curious gaze shifting down to his journal as she wraps her arms around his neck, reading the first few paragraphs while her fingers idly toy with his hair and a smile tugging on her lips when she feels him leaning his head softly into her chest.

'How drugs effect a patient's heart:

Cocaine - increased blood pressure, stiff arteries and thickened heart muscles.

MDMA - increased heart rate, blood pressure and body temperature.'

Is he still trying to figure out what Ginrummy gave me?

"Are you aiming to distract me, Kyo-ya?" Shockingly, that wasn't actually her intention, she just had the urge to be closer to him.

Of course she isn't about to admit that.

"Perhaps." A mildly playful tone lacing her voice as she presses a gentle kiss to the doctor's hair since it's the only thing she can really reach from her position, she can feel his smirking mouth against the skin of her collarbone, despite his words he appears to be relishing in her embrace, something that certainly makes her heartbeat go crazy. "Are you busy this weekend?"

He doesn't immediately answer with words, instead just releasing a quizzical hum while his fingertips trace little patterns across her hip, seemingly thinking to himself for a moment before he speaks. "I'll be at work from the afternoons until late, if that's what you mean. Why?"

And just like that, her heart stops racing, a strange feeling emerging deep inside the pit of her stomach though she's quick to shrug it off - or attempt to anyway.

"Oh, nevermind, it was nothing important." She had expected him to be busy during the party at Ace's but the confirmation still feels like quite the kick to the stomach, although she still has Lotte and that girl loves a party, surely she'll be able to attend.

If not, there's always the hosts themselves.

"I can take the day off if you--"

"No."
