Independence.
Kyo's eyes scan her new bedroom as she sets the bucket of paint down, a thoughtful frown etched into her features while she ponders whether or not one bucket would be enough, Ace already dipping a paintbrush into the colourful liquid before lightly smearing it onto the wall.
He had agreed to help in exchange for a cheeseburger so he will be painting the borders whilst Kyo colours the rest, she intends to have this job done before her nightshift begins.
"Was Hawk-eyes upset when you told him?"
"I haven't told him yet. I want this room set up before I do."
Procrastinating, that's the word for what she's doing right now.
She will tell her father eventually, sure, she can never keep anything from that man for too long but the idea is still quite terrifying.
Hell, he hasn't even seen her tattoo yet, she has managed to keep that hidden from him thus far.
Pouring some of the paint into a tray before grabbing her roller, she begins to pull her weight on the decorating, she has many plans for this bedroom. Fairy lights being one of them, she never got to have fairy lights inside her room at home since the castle walls were too hard for her to hammer nails into and she was too embarrassed about the little decoration to ask for any outside help.
She likes to appear tough and independent, needing help to hang fairy lights is the complete opposite of that.
It isn't much of a reassurance that she's also on a time limit; she has to make her room look as though it has been lived in for over a week and yet, she doesn't even have a bed in here.
According to landlord Shanks, he had told Lotte she was already moved in as a business move, apparently it would've pressured the brunette into choosing this apartment quickly since she'll think the rooms are being taken up fast.
The logic didn't make much sense to Kyo since there are many apartment buildings in the city so she assumed the brunette would realize that and be patient, but Shanks disagreed on account that his apartments are reasonably priced, unlike most.
Whatever his reason, he had unintentionally shafted the younger redhead, since she'll now have to juggle decorating as well as the nightshift.
"So where's your roommate?" Ace finally questions as if reading the girl's mind, he hadn't been informed about much other than the fact that Lotte's a female. "Is she hot?"
The redhead's eyes never diverting from her task as she paints the wall, the colour is a deep plum and will easily match her dark bedsheets, something that inwardly satisfies her. "I believe she'll be moving in properly in a few days, she has already dropped off a few boxes but other than, I've barely seen her."
More reason to get this job done by tonight.
"Still doesn't answer my question though~" The freckled raven teases, setting down the brush as he completes the last border and reaching for another roller, seems he's feeling productive today.
He had only agreed on doing the borders but if he wishes to help her paint the whole room, well...she isn't about to complain.
His words make her frown however, a thoughtful pout etching into her features as she tries to recall the brunette's face, not that it really helps her. She doesn't have a clue what men find attractive.
Although, Lotte did have nice hair and an interesting style, she knows that much for sure.
"Hm...Yes, I suppose she is quite pretty." She finally admits, a soft chuckle reaching her ears.
"Oh~? That's the first time I've ever heard you compliment anyone, you sure you're not more into women, Kyo~?" Of course he finds any opportunity to tease her, the redhead simply choosing to ignore that as she rolls her eyes, however curiosity soon kicks in.
"Hey, Ace...if you think a lot about a person does it always mean that you're attracted to them?" She has found herself in quite a predicament as of late, that brunette's cousin keeps invading her mind while she tries to work or sleep, the way he said her name troubles her above all else.
Kyo-ya...
Why did he call her like that?
"I mean, it could do, yeah." Ace's voice falling a little serious at the question although that doesn't stop him from doing his task, he's fast at it too. Most of his wall is already finished. "Especially when you're trying to sleep, you might even dream about them."
Her frown deepening at the information as she plays with the idea in her head; she hasn't dreamt about Trafalgar so that's a good sign, she just wonders about him, although she'd argue that could be because she hadn't met anyone like him before.
Yes, he is just a curious specimen, that is all.
"Why? You really think you like your roommate or something?" And just like that, Ace has slapped her out of her thoughts well and truly, she hadn't mentioned Trafalgar to him yet so his confusion does make sense.
Her face burning up as a red hue darkens her cheeks, her eyes filling with irritation and embarrassment at the same time as she snaps her head in his direction. "Not her, you fool!"
Again, that isn't at all Ace's fault, she wasn't as informative as she could have been.
Not that he seems phased at all, he's used to her snapping at him by now, surely. "Oh? You mean me, then~?" He simply jests, turning toward her as he finishes his wall, a dramatic grin spread across his face. "I always knew you liked me deep down~!"
"In your wildest dreams, perhaps." She coldly grumbles, turning her focus back toward her wall while Ace giggles to himself, the boy getting started on the next wall but it would seem she has piqued his interest nonetheless.
"So who is it then? This person you like~?"
"I don't like him, I don't even dream about him."
"Eh? Dreams aren't always guaranteed, y'know!"
She doesn't respond, not immediately anyway, each time Lotte had dropped off a box ever since he hasn't been present - at least not to her knowledge so it's likely she won't be seeing him around as he said she would.
Probably a good thing though, she doesn't need him confusing her this way.
"It's nothing--"
"It's not one of my brothers, is it? Please, don't tell me it's Thatch!"
At this rate Ace will draw himself a worse conclusion than the truth, the redhead silently pondering to herself as he freaks out in the background, only half-listening to him vent about Thatch being too old for her and the whole thing being gross.
"My roommate has a cousin." She finally begins, shutting up Ace instantly and seemingly ending his suffering when she continues. "He was...interesting, that's all, nothing more and nothing less. Now let it go."
Naturally, let it go Ace will not. The boy grinning to himself as he resumes painting the wall, his smug smile never fading as he lets out a playful and disapproving hum. "Oh nooo, what would papa Hawk-eyes say~?"
"Just shut up and paint your wall."
