Chapter 3

Top 5 Reasons Why Becoming a Teen Model Is Just an Amazing Offer to Take

5. I will be able to become a teen role model, and have people actually listen and look up to me. I will be an example, and I will be a leader.

4. I get to keep the clothes that I model. I cannot wait to upgrade my wardrobe! I haven't been clothes shopping in the longest time, so I've had to wear things that I've had since 9th grade. I am a junior now. I really don't mind because I know that it could be worse.

3. I have the chance to create new friendships with some of the other models working for Mr. Vogue also. I cannot wait to meet them. I could finally get some friends that I have something in common with.

2. I will be paid a whole lot of money, so I can help support my family even more. I really want to do that now. I get paid for each picture that is put in a magazine, and I also get paid for every copy of the magazine sold. Plus, I get paid even more for doing interviews, meetings, speeches, stuff like that. My family will finally be able to pay the rent every month, and catch up on all of our debt.

And the number one reason why becoming a teen model is just an amazing offer to take?

1. I will finally not be invisible.

Of course I accepted.

Why wouldn't I?

I get the chance to become famous across the US, which means I will earn money that can support my family. Plus, I might finally be known. I could get everything I have ever wanted. And it was all just a signature away.

"Ah, Miss Blanchard! It is so nice to see you again, and not in a hospital bed this time!" Mr. Vogue exclaimed as I walked into his office, with my mom and Carmen pacing behind me.

I chuckled. "Yeah, you too! And thanks again for paying the hospital bill, Mr. Vogue. It really has helped us." I said, motioning to my family.

He smiled. "Not a problem, Miss Blanchard. Please, take a seat."

Tired of standing there awkwardly, I accept his offer and plop down into a velvet rolling chair. Mom and Carmen take a seat in a leather couch towards the back of the room.

"Now, at the hospital you were really excited about this offer, and accepted immediately. I am asking a lot of you. You're going to have to deal with all of the downsides of being famous. I don't want you making a decision that you're going to regret later on." He looked at me with a serious look.

I smiled. "I understand, Mr. Vogue. I can deal with some downsides of things; I've been doing it for awhile now. I just really want to help my family out in any way I can. And I would also like to stop being invisible." I mumbled the last part, and even if somebody did hear it, they said nothing about it.

"Well, okay then, Miss Blanchard! All you need to do now is sign this," he grabs a clipboard with papers attached, and a pen connected by a silver chain to it off of his desk, "and your dreams will all be made a reality." He sent me a slightly chilling smile while he handed the items to me. I return the smile unsurely, and look down at the clipboard in my hands. There were many pages attached to it, but only one blank for a signature on the front page.

I skim my eyes through the words as I flip through them, trying to make sure that I'm not being played. I don't see anything skeptical, so I smile and flip back to the first page and proceed to sign on the line marked with an 'x.'

I look back up once I finish, handing the clipboard back to Mr. Vogue. His smile once again sends chills up my spine, but I simply just shake it off, guessing that he is just someone with that kind of smile. I smile back and look back at my mom and Carmen. They both smile while Carmen gives me a thumbs up and mom makes the okay sign with her hand. I softly chuckle to myself before turning back towards Mr. Vogue, who was putting the papers in a filing cabinet behind him. He had tons of similar papers in there.

"Thank you, Mr. Vogue." I say.

He turns around and shakes his head. "No, no, Miss Blanchard. Thank you!" I smile and nod.

He stands up and extends his hand out towards me, asking for a handshake. I mimic his actions, and shake his hand while smiling. When he pulls his hand back, he grabs a single piece of paper and hands it to me.

I start scanning through it as he starts talking. "On the front is your new schedule starting next Friday. Your work starts at 5 on weekdays and end at 9; because we know that you have school, and you need sleep. On weekends, however, we would like you a little bit longer, just in case we didn't finish things over the weekdays. So your Saturday's through Sunday's will be from noon to 6." He explains as my eyes follow the words he's saying.

"Wow, that's a lot of time off of her hands, Mr. Vogue. Will she get some off time?" Mom asks, emphasizing the word 'some.'

Mr. Vogue chuckles softly. "Of course she will, Mrs. Blanchard. I was just about to get to that point," He turns his attention back towards me, "This is just a layout for the weeks that we have you booked with tons of photo shoots or meetings and whatnot. You will get around 2-3 weeks off every month. But that is not a promise. Sometimes we have sudden plans, and we might need you. And sometimes we might have you all week. It really all just depends on how your career takes off."

"Oh." I breathe.

"So, no, this is not a permanent schedule. This is just a schedule for the weeks that I tell you that you're busy." He smiles, trying to lighten the now tense feeling.

He continues, "And on the back is just a few things that you're going to need to know at the top, and at the bottom are things that you are going to need to do."

I turn my sheet around and glance over the top half.

· Everyone at the modeling agency is very friendly and compassionate. They will help you if you need anything.

· You are not allowed to model any lingerie or revealing clothing until you are 18.

· You will get a say in what you model. So, if you aren't comfortable modeling a certain outfit, don't be afraid to say something about it.

· You will start to be a role model for many teenagers. Make sure that you don't misbehave or make decisions that you'd regret.

I finish reading the list of things that I'm going to need to know and skim my eyes down to the list of things that I'm going to have to start to do.

· You are going to need to start working out frequently, (preferably everyday) so you keep the body shape that we want. Cardio is a big must.

· You are going to also have to eat healthier, and lay off of the sweets.

· You may have to change your style a little bit, for publicity.

· You have to obey the photographer, no matter how awkward you believe the pose is.

"Well, this looks pretty simple. I can do this." I say, meeting Mr. Vogue's gaze. He smiles.

"That's the spirit I like to hear!" He exclaims while laughing. I join in awkwardly, not knowing what else to do. Once his laugh dies down, he looks at me again, "Now, your job starts next Friday. Remember that. And plus, your first week will just be learning the basics, getting the feel of the studio and deciding on different shoots. It will be a pretty easy week." He tilts his head as he smiles. I smile back while pushing the velvet rolling chair back to where it first was.

"Thank you again, Mr. Vogue." I say while slowly walking backwards to my mom and sister. His smile makes me tense up once again.

"It's my pleasure, Miss Blanchard." He starts to bow, but only his left arm does anything. I give a half-hearted smile before turning and exiting with my family.

I had never been this excited about anything in my life. Everyday leading up to that Friday seemed to drag on, yet I was still fidgety and elated in every one of my classes, and everywhere I went. It was very noticeable that I was much more enthusiastic than I was before. I paid much more attention in class and impressed my teachers. I actually talked to some people who might now be some possible friends. When I did homework, I did it with a smile and with as much effort I could put into it. I hung out with Carmen and my mom a lot more, and by doing so I created a much deeper bond with both of them individually and together. I had never been so happy.

And finally, it was Friday.
