Later in the evening, the ponies of Ponyville have gathered at the town hall, waiting for the festivities for the Celebration of the Summer Sun to begin. Sunshine stood next to Twilight, who has Spike on her back, along with Rainbow Dash, Applejack, and Pinkie Pie as Fluttershy prepared the choir of birds to sing while Rarity stood on the central balcony, ready to close the curtains. to reveal Princess Celestia's appearance.

While everyone was waiting, Pinkie was telling Twilight a lot about what Sunshine's job as Sheriff of Ponyville is like.

And to the surprise of all the ponies, the Moonmare appeared in front of Sunshine, causing almost all of them to recoil in fear. Nightmare Moon took a closer look at Sunshine's necklace.

Nightmare Moon: Well well well, so you have his symbol, I'm surprised to see his firstborn in front of me.

Sunshine: What are you talking about?

Seeing that the stallion in front of her didn't know anything, Nightmare Moon laughs wickedly.

Back at the Golden Oak Library, Twilight puts to bed an unconscious Spike who doesn't want her to get involved with Nightmare Moon. She then runs back to the library while Twilight was throwing books around looking for the information she was looking for.

Twilight: Elements of Harmony, Elements of Harmony, yuck...how can I defeat Nightmare Moon without the Elements of Harmony?

Rainbow Dash: What are you talking about? What "Elements of Harmony"? How do you know about Nightmare Moon anyway?

From the beginning Twilight was hesitant to tell them the truth about the situation, but she had been reminded that Sunshine trusted her and that she would know what would do the right thing.

Nightmare Moon: A magically talented unicorn like you shouldn't be in a place where your actions aren't appreciated. But under my guidance, all of Equestria will bow to us.

The mare manifested herself in front of Sunshine, while the aforementioned said nothing.

Suddenly, there was a loud rumble and the ground below the Mane 6 cracked as Nightmare Moon's mist receded from the cliff. Pinkie, Rarity, Applejack, and Twilight fall down the slope while screaming as Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy avoid the fall by flying with their wings.

Rainbow Dash: Fluttershy! Quick, we have to help them!

Fluttershy: Oh dear! Oh dear!

Twilight, Rarity, Pinkie, and Applejack scream as they fall down the slope that leads to a large cliff. Rainbow Dash saves Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy saves Rarity, Applejack managed to save herself by grabbing onto a root, but Twilight continued to slide down the slope and soon ended up hanging off the edge of the cliff.

Twilight: SOMEONE HELP ME!

Applejack quickly grabbed one of Twilight's front legs to keep her from falling.

Twilight: Applejack! What should I do?!

Applejack: Let go.

Twilight: Are you crazy?!

Applejack: No, I'm not. I promise you will be fine.

Nightmare Moon's mist saw the Mane 6 leave and quickly flew forward to find the next danger to prevent the Mane 7 from getting close to the Elements of Harmony.

Rainbow Dash: And once Pinkie and Rarity were saved, WOW! . . Fluttershy and I go round and round and BAAM! I caught you at the last moment!

Twilight (deadpan): I know, Rainbow Dash. I was there when it happened, you don't need to-

The Mane 6 saw in front of them a creature that was a hybrid between a lion and a scorpion appeared before them.

Twilight: A manticore! We have to pass it!

The manticore tried to attack the Mane 6, but Rarity kicks it in the face with her hind legs.

Rarity: Take that ruffian!

Manny Roar then let out a loud roar that messed up Rarity's mane.

Rarity: My mane!

Applejack was about to join the rest in attacking the manticore, but Fluttershy caught her attention.

Fluttershy: STOP!

They all listened to Fluttershy and looked at him confused. Fluttershy approached the manticore and it seemed ready to attack Fluttershy. The other mares were about to intervene, but they saw that Fluttershy had pulled a very thick thorn from one of the manticore's legs.

The Mane 6 continued their way through the Everfree forest.

Rarity: My eyes need a rest from all this disgusting crap.

The moon was then blocked by the tree cover, making all the ponies' vision dim.

Rarity: Not so literally.

As the Mane 6 were busy trying to get through the darkness, Nightmare Moon's mist surrounded them and seeped through the trees.

Twilight: The ancient ruins could be right under our noses and we wouldn't even know it.

So someone accidentally bumped into Twilight and it was Rarity.

Rarity: I'm sorry.

Applejack: Oh wait, I think I stepped on something.

Fluttershy screamed in fright.

Then more growls were heard as more trees showed scared faces and they were all growling at the Mane 6. A trio of Pegasus ponies appears with two stallions and a mare in the middle of the trio wearing dark colored flight suits and goggles with yellow lenses with Cutie Marks that are skulls with wings.

Shadowbolt Leader: We're the biggest air team in the Everfree Forest, and soon to be the biggest in all of Equestria, but first, we need a captain. The most magnificent-

Rainbow Dash: Yes.

Shadowbolt Leader: The bravest flyer in all the land.

Shadowbolt Leader: We're searching...you.

Twilight: Don't mind them!

Shadowbolt Leader: Well? What do you say?

Rainbow Dash thought for a second before coming to a decision.

Rainbow Dash: I. . . Thank you! For the offer, I mean, but I'm afraid I have to say no.

Rainbow Dash tied up the bridge and then flew off to join her friends, causing the Shadowbolts to grit their teeth before turning into purple mist and flying away.

The Mane 6 then arrive at the Castle of the Two Sisters and upon entering they see a certain stallion trying to get out of a dome of magic that was keeping him locked up.

Twilight: But where are the elements of harmony?

Sunshine, noticing the presence of her friends, was alarmed.

Sunshine: Girls, it's a tra-

A familiar purple mist flies right in front of the group surprising them. An evil laugh was heard as the mist turned into a figure and out of it came Nightmare Moon.

Nightmare Moon: And to think that six ponies would overcome all my obstacles. I am almost impressed. But even so, I will not allow anypony to use the Elements of Harmony against me.

The mares were very scared of Nightmare Moon, Sunshine desperately tried to escape from her prison.

Sunshine: I won't allow it!

Nightmare Moon: Silence!

Nightmare Moon fired a bolt of magic from her horn that shattered the dome and hit Sunshine, pinning him to a wall.

Mane 6 (terrified): Sunshine!

The after mentioned fell unconscious to the floor under the bewildered gaze of her friends.

Nightmare Moon: And to ensure my victory.

Nightmare Moon sees some stone orbs that were in a statue and shoots lightning at them to break them into pieces, surprising Mane 6.

Twilight: NO! THE ELEMENTS!

Nightmare Moon: Did you really think that any of you could defeat me? No one, not even that weak unicorn can beat me! I have destroyed the Elements of Harmony and now you will never see your princess or your sun! The night will last forever!

Twilight was about to fall into despair, however she looks at the rest of the Mane 6 and especially the unconscious Sunshine, remembering the words he said.

Sunshine (in Twilight's mind): That's what friends are for, right?

Twilight remembered what Sunshine said and realized something, causing her to smile. She then stood up and looked at Nightmare Moon with determination in her eyes.

Twilight: Do you think you can destroy the Elements of Harmony just like that? Well, you're wrong, because the spirits of The Elements of Harmony are right here!

The rest of the Mane 6 then faced Nightmare Moon from behind Twilight with the same look of determination that she wore.

Saying that, the fragments of the Elements of Harmony began to react and floated into the air.

Items floated above and around Mane 6 but that was it as nothing else seemed to be happening which made Nightmare Moon laugh and confused Mane 6.

Twilight was confused at first, but then she looked at the unconscious Sunshine. Twilight then remembers how they met, interacted and how he supported her even though she was a stranger, with those memories she just smiled and looked at Nightmare Moon.

Twilight: Not exactly Nightmare Moon. Legends say that there used to be a Guardian who protected the elements of harmony, and "Only the light of the 6 hearts of harmony will reveal its guardian", but it is no longer a legend. Sunshine, who became my first friend today, stood up for all of us and tried to protect us on his own, even if he had to risk his life. He is the legendary protector...The Guardian of Harmony!

Then something unexpected happened when the 6 elements of harmony let out a flow of magic that headed towards Sunshine, surrounding it and slowly starting to rise into the air.

A small tornado made from the power of the elements surrounded Sunshine.

Terrified, Nightmare Moon fired a powerful magical beam trying to stop the stallion, but the after mentioned had disappeared in a flash of light.

He then reappeared in front of the Mane 6 with a golden glow surrounding him, which when it disappeared, Sunshine was shown wearing a golden armor with some crimson plates, and in the center a plate that showed the symbol of his Cutie Mark (The armor is like Shining Armor, only without the helmet).

Sunshine opened her eyes which were illuminated by a whitish hue.

Sunshine: We'll give you your due Nightmare Moon, Harmony style.

The Elements of Harmony begin to glow brightly as Mane 6 and Sunshine float into the air and a huge rainbow-colored beam shoots up into the air and then heads towards Nightmare Moon.

Nightmare Moon: NOO! NOO!

Rainbow lightning engulfed Nightmare Moon and then everything turned white.

Within moments, the Mane 6 was back on the ground and began to rise.

Sunshine (confused): Wh-what? What happened?

But suddenly he is knocked down to the ground by the Mane 6.

Mane 6: Sunshine!

Sunshine (smiling): Wow, hehe, don't worry, they're going to take my breath away.

Twilight: We were very worried.

Rainbow Dash: We thought we lost our friend.

Sunshine: But I'm here, everything is fine.

Twilight noticed the armor Sunshine was wearing.

She had light fuchsia gray fur, a light rainbow mane and tail (in the colors light cerulean, light turquoise, very light cobalt blue, and pale heliotrope), pale light grayish magenta eyes, and her cutie mark is a stylized sun.

Twilight: Princess Celestia!

She gasped as she got up from the ground and saw Sunshine in front of her, who had a frown on his face.
