#46: Marinette's Extraordinary Playlist
A Lukanette, requested by my girlie, leiana52!!
Soooo this is actually based on an episode of Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist. (It's a fun show that I watch) And it 100% makes sense.
All you need to know is that the main character can hear people's innermost thoughts and feelings through big musical performances. Kinda like a private-viewing of a music video with choreography and the song is always a reflection of their strongest emotions at the moment.
'''''
In this oneshot, Marinette 'takes the place' of Zoey (the main character) and has her superpower of being able to hear people's "heart songs." Nothing else is changed. This does not follow the plot of the ZEP show---only takes place in the MLB universe. The only difference is that Marinette has this superpower.

The song that I used is actually featured in the show in one of the episodes, but not in the same context.
Here's the song if you wanna play it along with the story:

"He doesn't love me." She sobbed into the device. Her cries made it hard to understand any of her words, but she tried her best. "He said he loves someone else and that I'm just a friend."
There was a click as the other person on the call hang up, abruptly.
Marinette felt the tears sting at her eyes and flood down her cheeks. She clenched the phone in her hands---her knuckles were turning white from her grip alone. She hugged the pink pillow closer to her chest.
"Tikki," she whimpered. "Why does it hurt so much? I expected this to happen, but I still feel like I wasn't prepared for it. Is there something wrong with me?"
"Of course not, Marinette!" The small kwami rubbed her shoulder. "You just got rejected! It's normal to feel loss and sadness when this happens!"
At her words, the blunette's shoulders shook harder with renewed sobs.
"Oh no, Marinette! Did I make it worse?!"
"I'm sorry, Tikki," she said in between sniffles. "I know you mean well, but I don't think I can deal with this just now. I'm sorry."
"You don't need to be sorry, Mari. You did nothing wrong."
"Really? Because everything feels wrong to me."
A loud slam came from the first floor and shook the house, slightly. Marinette sat up in her bed, face blotchy and tears trailing down her flushed cheeks. She blew her nose.
"What was that?"
Frantic footsteps could be heard racing up the steps to her bedroom. At last, the trap door was flung open and Luka Couffaine stepped into the room. He whipped around, searching for the poor girl and quickly got to his feet when he saw her staring at him from her bunk. He paused, panting.
"I'm sorry I hung up---I came as fast as I could. Can I come up?" He softly gazed at her miserable face.
She sniffed again and nodded. He stepped across the threshold and climbed up into her bunk bed.
"Hey." He reached out and gave her a hug---holding her close to his warm, lean frame. "Is there anything I can do to make it better?"
Marinette hugged him back, fiercely. Her tears left a wet spot on the shoulder of his jacket, but he didn't seem to mind.
"I don't know, Luka. I just really need someone to talk to or just hold."
"Well I'm right here for you. Always." He trailed his hand over the ends of her loose hair and down to the small of her back.
Even in her grief, she couldn't help but smile a little. It was nice to know that someone had her back, even when she felt like her world was coming apart at the seams. She relaxed into the hug after some time.
After she was all cried out, she started hearing a sound that she wasn't expecting. A guitar. Someone was playing the guitar. But who? Luka was right in front of her and was hugging her---he couldn't be playing anything right now. And her parents weren't home, so no one was listening to any music.....unless.....
Marinette looked up at Luka with wide eyes. She hadn't been expecting to hear another heart-song so soon after the last one. But as Luka pulled away, she saw that he had the same look in his eyes as the other people who had sung to her. He was going to sing. But....what?
"When I wake up," Marinette jumped as he suddenly started vocalizing. Who knew Luka had a good voice?
"Well, I know I'm gonna be---" he continued. "I'm gonna be the man who wakes up next to you. And when I go out, yeah, I know I'm gonna be---I'm gonna be the man who goes along with you. And if I get drunk," he slowly caressed her head. A slow and comforting smile spread across his face.
"Well, I know I'm gonna be---I'm gonna be the man that gets drunk next to you." Luka drew back from the hug to sit back on his knees and to run a hand through his hair. Had it not been for the look he gave her after he messed up his hair, she would have laughed at how dramatic this all looked. But the heated look made her body freeze and her heart flutter.
"And if I grow old, well, I know I'm gonna be---I'm gonna be the man who's growing old with you."
To her surprise, Luka suddenly spun around on her mattress while crouched on his knees."But I would walk five hundred miles and I would walk five hundred more!" His hair went flying as he jumped to his sock-covered feet and started dancing. He did a flip off her bed and onto her floor.
"Just to be the man who walked a thousand miles to fall down at your door."
He gave the stunned girl a wink before continuing his movements around the room. "Da da dat da!"
Marinette gasped as he easily reached the high notes.
"Da da da da! Da da dat da da da diddle la da dat da da!"
She slowly climbed down the ladder, entranced by his heart's performance. Luka smiled and grabbed her wrist, lightly, leading her around the room and incorporating her in his dance.
"Da da dat da! Da dat dat da! Da da da da! Da da dat da da da diddle la da dat da da!"
The music slowed. Marinette could have sworn that a serious light was suddenly glowing in the atmosphere. She looked up at Luka, whose expression had frozen. Slowly, his lighthearted features morphed into one that was so heartbreakingly tender, it made her want to cry. He looked her dead in the eyes and leaned down. She felt her breath hitch as she heard a piano and felt his forehead touch hers. His turquoise eyes were swimming with so many emotions.
He carefully spun her away from him. Her fingers brushed his at the release. His arm was outstretched, like he was reaching out for her, at a distance.
"When I come home," he started to sing again, softer, this time. "Yeah, I know I'm gonna be---I'm gonna be the man who's coming home to you."
His eyes held an unbridled look of adoration.
"And when I'm dreaming," Luka started to walk back up the steps of her bed---taking his time as he did so. "Well, I know I'm gonna dream---I'm gonna dream about the time when I'm with you."
He finally reached the landing and sat down on the mattress. He tucked his heels back under him as he fervently watched Marinette's stunned figure ascend after him.
He took her wrists in his long fingers and gently tugged her closer."But I would walk five hundred miles."
Marinette couldn't help but smile as the guitar strummed in the background. She hugged him, fiercely, and cried. But this was different now---these were happy tears.
"And I would walk five hundred more. Just to be the man who walked a thousand miles. To fall down at your door."
Marinette's previous crying episode over Adrien was all but a distant memory. All she could think about was the message in Luka's heart song.
"Da da dat da." He sang, sweetly. He pulled back from the hug to brush her hair out of her eyes again and look at her with that lovestruck expression.
His eyes searched hers openly. It was like he felt he couldn't stop looking at her. His gaze wandered around her face.
"Da da dat da."
First, he appraised her misty eyes. Then, he moved down to her flushed cheeks and button nose. All the way over to the freckles scattered on her cream skin. At last, he settled on her chapped and parted lips.
He tenderly reached up and ran his thumb along her bottom lip. He flicked his gaze up to her bluebell eyes, one last time.
"Da da dat da."
Marinette tried to focus on regulating her breathing. She had not expected Luka's heart song to be so powerful. And for it to be about her. She nearly quivered at his touch as he continued to stroke her back---oblivious that he'd poured his heart out to the emotional girl.
"Marinette," his chest rumbled where she laid her head against it. "You are an amazing person. You are smart, kind, and beautiful. If Adrien can't see that, then he is a very dumb and unfortunate boy. I've told you before that you are the music that's been in my head since the day we met---but that's not true anymore. Now, you're also the playlist that matches my heart. You're the upbeat rhythm to bring me up when I'm feeling down. And you're the note that resonates when I'm feeling empty. You're everything to me."
"Luka, I---"
"---I don't expect a response, Marinette," he gave a soft chuckle. "I know that you just need to be comforted. But I want you to know that I'll be here for you if you ever decide you want me---friendship or anything else. I'm happy if you just want to be friend, Mari. But," He paused and licked his lips, nervously. "But if you ever decide you want me, I want you to know that you would not get the same response that Adrien gave you. I would do anything to help your heart's song be one of happiness, comfort, and love. If you give me the chance, I want for us to be the song that is written for years and years into the future. Because the timing or rhythm doesn't matter---it's the music."
Marinette's shoulders were shaking with sobs again.
"Marinette? Did I say something wrong?" She felt his heartrate spike in worry.
"N-no, Luka," she wrapped her arms around his neck and looked up to meet his gaze. She smiled through her tears. "No, you just made me realize how stupid I've been." She gave a watery chuckle. "I-I'd like that Luka. I'd like to give us a chance---I just need time, first."
The man beamed at her and pulled her closer to him. "Take all the time you need, Marinette. Just as long as it's what your heart wants."
"It is, Luka. My heart wants you."

WAITTTTTTT. I HAVE AN IDEA.
ZEP fans!! What if Luka actually has Zoey's power?!
Think about it!!
Luka is really good at reading people's moods and plays their hearts' songs for them!! So what if he could hear their heart songs (like Zoey does) and he just deals with it and helps them by showing them what's in their heart and helping them face it!!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaa
