For the first time in her life, Marinette felt the need to arrive at school as early as possible. She even declined the offer Luka made her about walking her to school during their first-morning phone call as an official couple. It wasn't that she didn't want to spend time with him, but that was her and Adrien's thing, and she didn't want that to change. Not even if he was mad at her for an apparent unknown reason.

Actually, on the subject of Adrien, Marinette didn't want to wait for another second to arrive at school. She needed to talk to him. Marinette wanted to find out what she had done wrong. She couldn't lose Adrien. Adrien was the most important person in her life besides he family, and she would do whatever it takes to fix what she had wronged. Besides, Luka will understand.

Luka sat on his bed, feeling slightly confused. Their first official day as a couple, and already Marinette was blowing him off. He would have thought she would be excited for him to walk her to school, but instead, she was worried about Adrien. Claiming they always walked to school together and how she wouldn't want him to think that their friendship would change. Correct him if he is wrong but shouldn't she worry about him instead of Adrien now?

Luka understood that Marinette and Adrien's bond had become stronger after the trip to New York and even more after Alya and Nino's move but, Adrien had to understand that Marinette had him now. Things will have to change. Adrien had his shot, and he missed it. Now it was his turn, and he wouldn't let go of Marinette that easily. Luka had a plan. He would show Marinette that she had no future with Adrien, even as only best friends.

Marinette arrived at school about thirty minutes before the bell rang. Noticing Adrien had yet to show up, she decided to sit at the school steps and wait for him to arrive. One by one, the rest of the students arrived at Françoise Dupont High School. Yet, there was no Adrien. Looking towards her phone, Marinette noticed there were only 4 minutes till the bell rang, and she began to worry. Adrien was never late, and if he would be late, he would always let her know hours before then.

Feeling uneasy, Marinette quickly dialed his phone. The cell phone rang and rang, and no one answered. Refusing to give up, Marinette hung up the call only to redial his number. This time it only rang once before transferring her to his voicemail. Marinette felt her heart beginning to break. Adrien had sent her to voice mail. He had never sent her to voicemail before. Even if she called in the middle of his photoshoots, Adrien would make sure to answer. He refused to pick up her call, but why? What had she done?

Adrien felt exhausted. He needed some sleep, not that it would actually happen. "Adrien, breakfast is served. Please, come down to eat before you are late for school," Natalie called out while knocking on the door. Adrien thought for a minute. He was not ready to see Marinette. Just talking on the phone took a toll on him. Maybe he could stay home today.

"Natalie, I do not feel well today. May I stay home and rest," Adrien replied, faking a cough. "Of course, Adrien, as you wish. I will pick up your schoolwork later." "Thank you, Natalie." At that second, his cellphone rang. The contact named princess appeared on his phone. Adrien watched it as the cell phone rang and rang. He couldn't answer. Adrien couldn't talk to her yet. He had to get his feelings together before he did.

Adrien let out a sigh of relief as his phone stopped vibrating. But that relief was short-lived as his phone began to ring again. Once again, his princess was calling, except this time he couldn't watch it ring. Quickly he pressed the end call button, not allowing it to ring anymore. Adrien felt guilty. He had never sent Marinette to voicemail before. He cared about her too much for that to happen, but it was so difficult.

Marinette hung up the phone and clenched it tightly. Adrien was acting unfairly with her. But she would not allow him to push her away during his time of need. Something was going on that was difficult for Adrien to talk about, and she will find out what it was. Marinette would be there for him no matter what. At that moment, the bell rang, signaling for everyone to get to class. Picking up her stuff, Marinette looked around one last time in hopes of seeing Adrien running in, but he wasn't there. The bluenette sighed and walked to class. Arriving at her seat, she decided to send him a text message before class began.

"Hey, Kitty. I waited for you at school, but you never showed up. Is everything okay? Please text me."

Marinette then held on to the phone, hoping to get a response from Adrien. Something, anything at all. All she wanted was a glimpse of hope that he was okay and that she could fix this. Luckily her prayers were answered the instant Adrien replied.

"Hey, Mari. I will not be at school today. Last-minute photoshoot, sorry."

Marinette looked at her phone again. Mari? No princess, or M'Lady. Come to think of it, Adrien hadn't called her Mari or Marinette since they New York. It was always Princess, M'lady, or even Bugaboo because of her love for Ladybugs. Something was definitely off here. Marinette had always loved when Adrien called her by his one-of-a-kind nicknames. If it were anyone else, even Luka, she would prefer being called by her name, but with Adrien, it was different, and she hated that he went back to Mari. Why was it all suddenly back to Mari? She would have to find out.

Marinette texted back but was surprised when her message was left on seen and received no response in return. Marinette couldn't wait for school to be over. She was going to go straight to the Agreste mansion. She would confront Adrien today!

Marinette felt like school was going by slower than a turtle. It felt like an eternity long. All she wanted to do was go to the Agreste mansion and talk to Adrien, but it felt like that moment would never arrive.

During lunch, Luka decided to pick Marinette up for an impromptu date. Except, it wasn't like he imagined.

"Marinette, I am so happy we are together. I have waited for this moment for a long time," Luka stated, holding Marinette's hand. "Yeah, me too," Marinette replied, looking at her watch. At the moment, all she wanted was to get to Adrien. She wished to fix things between them and go back to normal. "So, I was thinking. Maybe we could go to the movies later?" Luka asked, hopeful that his girlfriend would agree. All he wanted was to spend all day with Marinette. He wanted to be the only person in her life.

Marinette sighed and pulled her hand away from Luka's grasp. "Um, Luka, I would love to, but- I sorta have plans with Adrien later. We have some things we got to fix. Can we do it later?" Marinette asked. She did want to go with Luka, but she had to fix things with Adrien. He was her best friend, and she hated that he felt the need to hide things from her. "Y-yeah, I guess," Luka replied sadly.

After the couple was thru with lunch, Luka dropped Marinette off at school and walked home upset. Once again, Adrien had managed to steal his girlfriend from him. He had to figure out a way to get rid of that model.

After what seemed like forever and a day, the school was at its last five minutes. Marinette tapped her pencil on her desk to the rhythm of the clock. What was taking so long? Marinette was becoming impatient when the bell finally rang, signaling class was over. Not waiting another minute, Marinette grabbed her things. Marinette was almost out the door when Natalie, Gabriel's assistant, walked into the room.

"Hello, Ms. Bustier. I am Natalie. We spoke on the phone. I am here to pick up Adrien's school work. We apologize for his absence, but Adrien was not feeling well today," Natalie stated, her face showing no expression at all.

Marinette was dumbfounded. Adrien is not feeling well? Marinette thought. Adrien had told her he had a photo shoot. Why did he lie to her? Marinette waited until Natalie had finished and pucked up the homework to proceed to her.

"Hi, Ms. Natalie," Marinette greeted.

"Hello, Marinette. What can I do for you?"

"I- is there any way I can see Adrien. I haven't been able to contact him all day, and it's not like him. I only want to make sure he is okay, please."

"Of course, Marinette. I am sure Adrien would love that. I am going straight to the Agreste mansion. Would you like to accompany me?" Natalie asked happily. Natalie was very fond of Marinette. It was not a secret Natalie loved Adrien as a son, and Marinette made him so happy. Natalie was sure he was in love with her. Marinette nodded, responding to Natalie's Question. "Thank you, Natalie."

Marinette felt her hands' sweat as she arrived at the Agreste Mansion. She was a nervous wreck. Based on the lack of response and distance Adrien has set on them, it was clear that she had done something wrong. She just hoped she could fix it.

"Adrien is up in his room. You may go on up. I will tell Mr. Agreste you have arrived to help Adrien with his schoolwork," Natalie spoke, giving Marinette a wink and handing her Adrien's homework. Marinette gave a smile as she grabbed his work. Natalie was always so helpful when it came to Adrien and her. So much so that Marinette often wondered why?

The bluenette proceeded to walk towards Adrien's room. Her heart pounding louder and faster with each step she took. 'What if she couldn't fix this? What if Adrien decided that he didn't want to be her friend anymore? What if he was dating someone? What if they will get married and Adrien never has time to see her again?' Marinette stopped her thoughts. "Wait, what? Marinette, what are you thinking?" she mumbled to herself. He is your best friend.

Finding the courage, Marinette knocked on his door. "Come in," Adrien called out, believing it was Natalie on the other side of the door. After all, Marinette never showed up without calling first.

Adrien looked towards the door waiting for Natalie to come inside and give him his needed schoolwork. But to his surprise, the door opened, revealing a breathtaking and astonishing bluenette with sad bluebell eyes.

"Hi," Marinette called out, walking in shily. She didn't understand why she was feeling this way, but the thought of losing Adrien after everything they have gone through broke her to pieces. Adrien was at a loss for words. What was she doing here? What was he supposed to say?

Breaking eye contact, Adrien walked towards his bed and sat down, turning his back on Marinette. Seeing her reminded him that Marinette loved Luka and he will always be just a friend. Once again, Adrien held back tears. He couldn't understand why life was so hard. Had he done something in his past life that he is paying for now? What was it about him that made him unloved by everyone? "Hi," he responded almost quietly.

Marinette furrowed her brows and sighed. Almost instantly, biting her lip, attempting not to cry. Adrien had turned his back on her. The blonde had also never done that before. Why was he doing this to her? What had she done? "A-Adrien, what is going on? I have called you all day. You told me you had a photoshoot, but Natalie said you weren't feeling well. W-why did you lie to me? Why are you ignoring me? Did I do s-something?" Marinette asked, her voice cracking often.

Adrien's first thought was. 'Dummy, how could you forget telling Natalie you were sick?' 'You didn't! You didn't tell Marinette that so that she wouldn't be worry and come to see you.' Followed by 'she is sad. I am hurting her, but I can't tell her the truth. How do you tell your best friend that she hurt you because you are in love with her without ruining your friendship? You don't.'

Adrien sighed and placed his face in the palm of his hands. "Marinette, I-" before he could say anything, Marinette, interrupted upset. "Marinette? What happened to princess, or M'Lady, or even Bugaboo? I don't understand what is going on, Adrien! What is it that I did? Why are you trying to change things between us?" Marinette let out as tears ran down her cheeks.

"Because we are done, Marinette! Because that is how things are now!"
