My favorite movie from each year I've been alive: Part 1
I saw this on TikTok. It will be two parts because I'll hit the image limit. Also half of this list will just be my comfort movies.
1996
In all 366 days of 1996, only one movie matters. I am so proud to have been born in the year of a genuine classic.
Honorable mentions: Absolutely none
1997
Good Will Hunting won by default because I hadn't really seen any others.
1998
This genre-bending extraordinaire explored Barney without walls. It was nothing short of a contribution to the film industry.
Honorable mentions: Halloweentown, Life is Beautiful
1999
My relatively unpopular opinion is that I like the first one best but this still deserves a slot in the best of 1999 because it's completely iconic.
Honorable mention: The Sixth Sense
2000
I love this movie enough to watch it several times and therefore it wins without contest.
Honorable mentions: The Emperor's New Groove
2001
This movie expanded the Little Bear Cinematic Universe in a way that broke barriers otherwise unknown for the beginning of this century.
Honorable mentions: Spirited Away, Monsters Inc, Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
2002
Perhaps this is not your cup of tea. Well, this is not even "my" Spider-Man. But it's so camp, so classic, and it started it all.
Honorable mention: The Rookie
2003
If I so much as hear a few bars of the soundtrack I will tear up inside and for once I'm not actually joking. This is actually in my top five movies of all time.
Honorable mentions: Barbie in Swan Lake, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
2004
You may question this choice in a year that was actually full of good movies but I say—watch it and never will you question again.
Honorable mentions: Barbie in The Princess and the Pauper, The Incredibles, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
2005
This is another movie where you can play a single note from the soundtrack and I'm finished. If you asked me to watch this literally right this second I would be down.
Honorable mentions: Corpse Bride, Pooh's Heffalump Movie, Because of Winn-Dixie
2006
2006 had a few hits like Little Miss Sunshine, The Pursuit of Happyness, etc, but I have not seen those and everything else sucked so much I am presenting Eight Below as my favorite of 2006. However I did truly love this movie when I saw it a few years ago.
2007
You've ratted your last touille.
Honorable mentions: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Bridge to Terabithia, The Game Plan
2008
This is visually stunning and deserves the top spot even though I almost picked College Road Trip
Honorable mentions: College Road Trip, Beverly Hills Chihuahua
2009
I can't figure out if this came out in 2008 or 2009 exactly but I have seen embarrassingly few movies from 2009 so here we are. This is infinitely better than The Little Mermaid.
Honorable mentions: Hotel for Dogs, Princess Protection Program
2010:
2010 has two winners. I will not be taking questions at the end.
Honorable Mention: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One
2011
I felt like an adult when I went to see this.
Honorable mentions: Hugo, The Help (I'm sorry), Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, The Muppets
2012
2012 was kind to me
Honorable mentions: The Impossible, The Hunger Games, Brave, Wreck-It Ralph, Life of Pi, The Amazing Spider-Man
2013
I adore this movie and will not be defending myself at this time.
Honorable mentions: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Monsters University
2014
It was SO HARD to pick for 2014 but honestly this may be in my top ten movies.
Honorable mentions: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies, The Lego Movie, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Imitation Game, The Hundred-Foot Journey
