Chapter 32
"How did the surgery go?" BEN asked as I walked into the basement. "And... why are you all bloody?" He added, tilting his head in confusion. I sighed before plopping down onto the couch beside him and telling him everything.
BEN blinked a couple of times before he just sat there, staring at me. "Wow..." He said, breathlessly. "Yeah tell me about it. I guess I at least know I got one power from the surgery but I'm a little scared to find out what else might happen to me. I mean it was experimental meaning that by next week I could dead!" I vented, running my hands through my hair.
"Hey, calm down. We will get all of this figured out." BEN said, rubbing my shoulder gently. I sighed. "Yeah I guess" I said, laying down so my head was on his lap. BEN smiled down at me. Then I realized there was something I had been meaning to ask him. "Hey BEN?" I said, looking up at him. "Hm?" He replied, mindlessly petting my head.
"You and EJ thought I might not be a shapeshifter. So we found out I can copy the abilities of others. But it doesn't add up. After the surgery, I was able to transform into a fox. I guess you could say I just copied the fox but that wouldn't explain how I murdered my dad. I mean I took on the form of something nonexistent. It was just a bunch of things morphed together. If I was copying something, then I shouldn't have been able to be that many things at once, right?" I asked, yawning a bit at the end.
"No I wouldn't say that. If you copied just a part of something and then part of something else, that could work. Like if you copied just my eyes, you'd probably be the same as you are now but with my eyes. So if you copy a bunch of individual things, you'd be able to become what you were when you murdered your dad." He explained.
I nodded my head. "I guess that makes sense. I didn't really think of it that way." I said, yawning again. "Are you tired?" He asked, staring down at me. "I am... but I'm afraid to fall asleep. I might have another vision and it could be a bad one, you know?" I said, staring at the ceiling, unblinking.
"You need to sleep though.... how about I sleep down here with you tonight? Then if you have a bad vision, I'll be right there for you." He offered. I smiled at how much he cared about me and nodded my head in agreement. Then he carried me to my room. I sleepily got changed and ignored the comments BEN made about me changing in front of him. I was too tired to care.
Then I slipped into bed and BEN did the same. We fell asleep in each others arms and I was content. That night, I didn't have a vision and I was very glad about it. Time seemed to pass by fast because before I knew it, I was back at the organization. I realized that they didn't really do much. They mostly just showed up to crime scenes and tried to prove a creepypasta did it.
Or if they weren't doing that they were trying to develop technology that could kill even immortals. Now I have to admit, that was kind of scary but they were a bunch of humans who didn't seem all that advanced. Plus, they didn't have any immortals to test it out on unless they could manage to capture a creepypasta. And they couldn't.
Suddenly a woman approached me and asked me to follow her. She had short black hair that fell to her shoulders and wispy bangs. She seemed to be about 30. She acted very serious, so I followed her assuming it was important. She led me into a room and I instantly felt suspicious.
It looked like the classic interrogation room. Metal table, foldable chairs, and a lamp were basically the only things there. The woman sat me down in one of the chairs and explained that the boss needed to ask me a few questions. I didn't like where this was going.
Josh walked in holding a laptop and a folder. He sat down across from me and the lady immediately left, shutting the door behind her. "What's all this about? Did I do something wrong? I mean I haven't even been here that long..." I said, trailing off. Josh stared at me, his expression hard.
"We finally got access to the security cameras in Janes apartment. We could have gotten it yesterday, but the guy who had the footage was murdered. Anyway, we watched the footage and it's not good. There's a new creepypasta and she's a shapeshifter it seems. She, along with BEN Drowned murdered Jane. Since Jane worked here, we figure it was because they found out about us. We don't really know though because the footage didn't have any audio. But that's what we think it is. To be on the safe side, we did some background checks on everyone here. This new creepypasta might have joined in a while back. Maybe Jane found out who she was and so action had to be taken." He explained. I nodded slowly, my face paling.
"Anyways, so we did background checks. Everyone was good until we got to you. You see, in order to do these checks, we went to everyone's house so we could hold a meeting about all of this. But you weren't home. The people I sent to check on you were worried about you for whatever reason, so they entered your house." He said. I interrupted him. "You mean they broke in." I said, negatively.
"It doesn't matter! What matters is that the house looked abandoned. So we finally got to your background check only to find that you don't exist. Alyssa Waters is dead." He said, sliding the folder towards me. I cautiously opened it up. It was the same report Slender had shown me all that time ago.
"So just who are you?" He asked threateningly. I paled before taking a deep breath to calm down. I needed to think of something fast. Why would someone hide their identity? Then it came to me. "Okay... you're right. I'm not Alyssa Waters. But I'm not a creepy pasta either! The reason I have a fake identity is because I'm kind of on the run... I was in foster care for a long time. I finally got adopted but shortly after, both my adoptive parents got into a wreck. I couldn't go back so I ran for it. I ran into some bad people. We made an agreement. They'd get me all the papers I needed if I did some work for them. I thought they just meant like cleaning or manual labor so I agreed. But it wasn't that. It turns out, I had gotten myself mixed up in a gang. Anyway, I'll skip all those details. Eventually I had enough of it and found the papers I needed, then I got the hell out of there... and now I'm here." I said, really hoping he'd believe my story. Those fucking drama classes I took were really coming in handy.
Josh sat in thought for a long time. He tapped his fingers on the metal table and constantly fidgeted. It was slowly driving me insane. Finally he spoke up. "So who are you really?" He asked. I gulped. If I gave him some random name, he could search it up easily and find out I was lying. Once again, I needed to think fast.
"I need someone who recently moved from another city... both parents are dead..." I thought, trying to think of anyone I knew. Then I realized that I did know someone. Me. (Y/N). They didn't know the name of the new creepy pasta, only how she looked. And I currently did not look like the person they saw. "My name is (Y/N) (L/N). I'm 17 years old." I said, as seriously as I could.
Josh pulled open his laptop and started typing. "(Y/N) (L/N)... parents: deceased... 17 years..." he mumbled, staring at the screen. "Ah. That's all it says. I guess since you're not 18, they can't release any other information on you. And there's no way you could have come up with a fake identity while I was in the room with you, so you can't be lying" he said, stroking his chin in thought.
"Okay. You're good. And now that that's over, you can update me on how things have been going." He said, leaning back in his chair. "Well... I recently had a vision... of the future? After the surgery I had a dream about waking up in the lab and bothering Tyler a whole bunch before I went to see you... and then the dream ended and I woke up in the lab. Everything in the dream happened exactly." I explained, leaving out the part about me killing a guy.
"Interesting... that could come in handy." He said. "Listen... Josh... ever since I started working here I haven't done much at all. I literally just found out today about the tech lab. You haven't even told me what it is we're doing here." I said. I needed information. That's why Slender sent me here in the first place.
Josh sighed, before shutting his laptop. "Alright kid, I'll tell ya. Almost everyone else knows already anyways. We are planning on attacking the creepy pastas. If we can't prove their existence, then we'll just eliminate them. Our boss found out the area they live in, so if a bunch of us patrol, we will surely run into them. Slowly, we will kill them one by one, until one of them finally give away their hiding place. Then we attack. Our weapons are almost complete. This would be a perfect opportunity to test them out. And I think you'd be a great candidate for that." He explained.
My eyes widened. They didn't know where we lived but knew knew the area. BEN, EJ, Jeff and I were probably safe since we didn't live in the mansion. But everyone there was in danger. If someone from the organization caught one of them coming back from a kill or something, it wouldn't end well. I needed to tell Slender right away.
"Wow I didn't realize we made so much progress. So when are we doing this?" I asked, trying to remain calm. "Sometime next week. The weapons will be finished by then. Until that time, I need you to train. The others are already training as we speak. I don't care how you train, just be ready. We're going to war." He said dramatically.
I nodded my head and did my best to get out of there as fast as I could. I didn't even bother going home afterwards, I ran right to Slender mansion. I burst through the door startling the proxies and a few other pastas who had been on the couch. I didn't even give them a second glance before I raced up to Slenders office and threw the doors open.
"Slender! We need to leave!" I shouted, running in. "What is it child?" He asked, tilting his head. "They know we all live in this area. The guy who runs the place figured it out somehow. They plan on patrolling until they catch one of us. Then they're going to use them to find the location of the mansion. They're making weapons that can kill immortals, Slender! They wanna wipe us out! We need to get out of here." I said, out of breath.
Slender tensed up before shaking his head. "I will tell the others. We will pack up as much as we can for now. In the mean time, I may need to have some of us stay with you. I believe you are far enough they will not search in your area. Please make preparations to house as many of us as you can. I will have my proxies find a place for the rest of us." Slender said, standing up and going through his files.
I nodded my head and walked out sadly. When I reached the bottom of the stairs, the others bombarded me with questions as to why I ran in here frantically and so on. I just shook my head and smiled sadly before leaving. I'd let Slender break the news. In the mean time, I needed to break the news to BEN, EJ, and Jeff.
Hopefully everything would work out.
