Chapter 2

"What are you doing?"

Sayuri looked at Dazai as he hung upside down by one leg.

"Letting the blood rush to my head so I eventually die," he answered nonchalantly.

"You know that can take hours right. You're gonna be miserable," Sayu replied as she spun a knife in her hand.

Dazai groaned. "I should've figured. And my leg is really starting to hurt."

Sayuri threw the knife to cut the rope that was holding him, letting him fall to the floor.

"Thank you," he spoke as he flipped himself up onto his feet.

"Not a problem. Wanna come with me to the arcade. I wanted my brother to come, but he's got a job to do today," Sayu offered with a smile.

"That sounds fun!" Dazai replied. "I'm in."

"Perfect! Let's go!"

The two were on their way out of the mafia headquarters when they came across Mori walking their way.

"And where are you two off to?" The boss asked curiously.

"The arcade!" Dazai answered.

Mori nodded slowly before letting the two pass.

It had been almost a year since the two had been introduced to each other and it was the biggest mistake he had made for himself, but useful for the mafia inside.

They loved messing with him and other members of the mafia, but when Sayuri was given an assignment, Dazai usually tagged along. They were very efficient, though Dazai had never been given an official assignment. The only reason he was there was because he was the only witness to the old boss's will, leaving his position to Mori.

Mori watched the two skip off to their destination, playfully arguing about who would beat who.

"I told you I was gonna win! That means you have to buy all the food I want from the store!" Dazai announced as they made their way to the market.

While passing a shop, Sayuri stopped. She looked up at a dress in the window before continuing with a sigh.

"You could get it, you know," Dazai said, seeing the look on her face.

"Nah. I don't need it. I've got more important things to buy, you know?" Sayuri replied calmly as she hung her head.

"You're one of the best assassins in the Port Mafia. I'm sure you make enough to be able to splurge on a dress if you want it," Dazai replied.

"I'm trying to save up. I don't want to spend the rest of my life in the mafia. One day, I wanna be free to live my life however I want. Can't do that without money. It's just a dress, Osa. I'll survive without it. Come on," Sayu said as she continued to pressed on towards the supermarket to get the food he wanted.

Dazai looked back at the short satin black dress that had caught Sayuri's eye. He could picture her in that dress and looking like a model. He hummed and kept his step behind her.

As soon as they got to the store, Dazai's eyes sparkled with excitement.

"I would like to make it abundantly clear that bleach does not count as food," Sayuri spoke with a grimace.

"You're no fun," Dazai grumbled.

Sayuri nudged him before grabbing a cart.

Almost a hundred thousand yen later, the two made their way in the direction where Dazai lived. She had only been to his place once. Place was definitely one word for it.

The suicidal brunette lived in an eerie dump, staying inside of a rusty old shipping container. He bounced into his dilapidated home as if it was a normal apartment.

Sayuri looked at the trash scattered around his bed and she sighed as she shook her head.

"You need to learn how to clean up by yourself," Sayuri complained as she put down the bags of food she was carrying. "Living in a dump doesn't grant you an excuse."

Dazai groaned as he sat down on his little office chair that was placed by the desk he had. "That's too much work."

Sayu looked down at her phone and hummed. "I gotta go. Sakunosuke ordered sashimi for dinner and there is no way I'm missing that!"

"Alright. See ya!" Dazai waved with a bright smile.

He waited a few minutes before pushing himself up off his chair. He made his way out of his shipping container on a mission of his own personal choice.

Sakunosuke walked up to the apartment he shared with his little sister and sighed, tired from the job he had take the night before.

He saw a paperbag that was folded in front of the door and he cautiously looked at it closer.

There was a post-it note that indicated that it was for Sayu. It had a little smiley face on it and he slowly reached for the package and hummed.

His ability wasn't reacting which told him that there was no immediate danger.

He brought the bag inside and saw Sayuri in the kitchen dancing to some American music that she had gotten into. Imagine Dragons was the name of the band if he remembered correctly. He could smell the soba that she was cooking up for lunch.

"Hey, Sayu. Someone left you something," Sakunosuke spoke as he set the bag down on the table. "Just be careful. I don't know what's inside."

"Oo! Let's see!" Sayu quickly ran over to the table. "Can you stir that, please?"

Sakunosuke looked over to the stove where she was pointing and nodded, stirring the noodles.

Sayuri looked at the note on the front and hummed before opening the bag excitedly.

She saw some satin black fabric at the bottom of the bag. She quirked her head slightly as she pulled the fabric out of the bag. It unfolded into a dress. The dress from the window.

Her eyes widened as she studied the dress. She immediately knew who it was from.

"A dress?" Sakunosuke questioned.

"Yeah... I told Dazai that I liked it..." Sayuri said quietly.

Sakunosuke chuckled lightly as he shook his head. "Well, go see if it fits."

Sayu nodded quickly before running to her room to see if it fit her. She slipped it on and looked at herself in the mirror. She loved it instantly. She felt absolutely stunning.

She ran out to show Sakunosuke as he was serving up the soba.

"It's perfect! Look at it!" Sayu gushed as she looked down at the form-fitting satin dress.

"Looks good. Definitely suits you. But don't go wearing that in public," Sakunosuke muttered.

"Worried I look too good for people to handle?" Sayuri joked with a grin.

"Yes," he replied. "You're a beautiful young girl. I know you can handle yourself, but you know I worry about you. You're my little sister and it's bad enough that you have enemies because of your work. I just want to keep you safe. I love you more than you know."

"I love you, too, Saku. You mean the world to me," Sayuri said as she hugged him with a smile.

"Now go change so you can eat," Sakunosuke replied after hugging his sister tight.

Sayuri skipped off to her room to change before coming out in a white ribbed knit turtleneck with a black skirt. She smiled at Sakunosuke as she sat at the table.

"Koyo called me earlier. There have been rumors going around that the old boss is back from the dead," Sayu spoke as she picked up her chopsticks. "It's got Mr Mori a bit panicked."

"It would. The old boss still being alive would mean that Mori loses power," Sakunosuke said with a nod.

"I'm not sure what he's gonna do about it, but I'm sure he won't just sit by," Sayuri remarked before he phone buzzed. She flipped it open. "It's Dazai."

"What does he want?" Sakunosuke questioned.

"He told me to meet him at headquarters in thirty," Sayu answered as she closed her phone after telling him that she'd be there. "Gives me time to eat, I guess."

She finished eating quickly before grabbing her suede black heeled boots.

"Just be careful," Sakunosuke said as he cleaned up lunch.

"What's the fun in that?" She remarked with her usually cheeky grin.

Sakunosuke rolled his eyes before waving her off.

"I'm here!" Sayu popped out of the shadows as she made her presence known.

"Took you long enough," Dazai grumbled.

"Hey! You said thirty minutes! I'm early!" Sayuri jabbed a finger into Dazai's chest before peering over his shoulder. "What's Hirotsu doing here?"

"I have my first official assignment from the boss and I asked Mr Hirotsu to come with me. I'm asking you as well," Dazai replied as he held out a silver paper.

"Oo, a silver oracle. You don't need that with me. I'll come, but do you really need both Hirotsu and I?" Sayuri questioned.

"He has the fire power behind his ability, and you have more experience in close quarters fighting than I do," Dazai replied calmly.

"So where are we going?"

"Suribachi City," Dazai answered as a car pulled up.

Hirotsu opened the door to let Dazai and Sayuri slip into the back seat. Sayu gave a quiet thank you as Dazai sat in silence, clearly deep in thought.

The ride was fairly quiet until Dazai finally spoke.

"This is about the rumors going around about the old boss being alive," the brunette spoke as he looked over to Sayuri. "There was a few sightings, but the most recent one was in Suribachi City."

"So we're going to investigate?" Sayu assumed. "And you believe that something will happen."

"What gives you that idea?" Dazai questioned with a tiny smirk.

"Isn't it obvious? It would be one thing if you told me to come with. You go with me on assignments all the time just for fun, but you brought Hirotsu with."

"Alright, I guess that was kinda straight forward," Dazai agreed as he flipped through a red and white covered book.

Sayuri new the book all too well. He had found while they were out one day and he absolutely had to have it. The Complete Guide to Suicide.

Once they arrived at Suribachi City, they all made their way to the sight of the last old boss sighting.

"I'll stay in the shadows," Sayuri spoke quietly to which Dazai nodded.

He watched as she stepped on a shadow and melted away. He began to walk towards their destination.

As they walked, Dazai read his book with excitement.

"They drink metal plating to kill themselves overseas, huh?" Dazai read aloud. "Wait... but it melts down their organ while they're still alive? Yuck. Glad I never tried that. Hey, did you know about that? Mr, uh..."

"It's Hirotsu," the older gentleman answered as Dazai turned to look at him. "I'll keep that fact in mind, thank you."

Dazai continued scouring the page of his book with interest.

"Dazai?" Hirotsu spoke up as he walked towards the boy with his hands folded behind his back.

"Yes?"

"This area is in a state of conflict. You should be careful?" Hirotsu warned.

Dazai closed his book before slipping it into a pocket inside the black jacket that was draped over his shoulders. "How so?"

"The Port Mafia is currently pitted against three organizations. First, Takasekai. Second, GSS. And finally, an army comprised entirely of juveniles referred to as the Sheep, which-"

Dazai's phone began ringing several he cut off Hirotsu. "Boss is calling."

Hirotsu went quiet as Dazai answered the call.

"What's up?" Dazai began. "Mhm. I've learned a few things. Long story short, I've found the whereabouts of the previous boss."

Hirotsu looked at the brunette curiously. Had he really found the old boss? What had he himself missed that Dazai discovered while barely paying attention?

"Looks like he came back. Straight from the pits of hell," Dazai continued to speak with a grin. "Mhm. I'll give you a proper report when I get-"

A black streak slammed into Dazai, driving him into a wall.

"What was that?!" Hirotsu stood in shock.

Dazai looked up as the dust cleared and saw a scrawny ginger stood before him with a foot on his chest.

"Ahh, this is perfect. It's just a kid," the boy mocked with a grin. "They're really scraping the bottom of the barrel, those Port Mafia.

"I think you should know, I really hate pain," Dazai grumbled as he looked up with a cold stare.

"I'm gonna give you two choices," the ginger spoke sternly. "Die now, or die after giving me information. Either is fine with me."

"Kill me now, then," Dazai replied easily. "If you can make it painless, all the better."

"Sheesh. What kinda suicidal punk are you?"

Dazai saw Sayuri out of the corner of his eye as she emerged from the shadows behind the boy.

"He's my suicidal punk," Sayu claimed as she threw a punch, startling the ginger.

She went to throw a kick but he caught her foot and she started floating. She shrieked at first before her eyes widened.

"Osa! I'm flying!" Sayuri realized as she floated in the air above them.

"I'll deal with you after. Now, enough of this chit-chat. Tell me about this 'Arahabaki' you're lookin' for," the boy pressed as he returned his glare to Dazai.

"Oh? Arahabaki? How interesting? So that's the target," Dazai mumbled, his lips pulling into a smirk.

"You've heard about it, then?"

"Nope. Never have," Dazai answered before the ginger kicked him in the face. He could see Sayuri's face puff up and he gave her a look to calm down. "Those who step into the Sheep's territory will be met with vicious retaliation. I see. So you're the King of the Sheep. Chuuya Nakahara, manipulator of gravity."

"Oh, yeah! I heard about you!" Sayuri said from her place in the air, lying on her stomach as she kicked her feet with a grin.

"I'm not their king, alright? But I do have a trump card up my sleeve," the boy, Chuuya, spoke with a grin of his own.

"Oh. You're a cocky, overconfident child. I hate people like you so much," Dazai muttered.

"Oh, yeah? Well, I hate condescending little pricks like you more than anything in this world," Chuuya fired back.

"That's enough of that," Hirotsu spoke up finally as he stood a little ways behind Chuuya, slipping his white gloves off his hands. "Come quietly, or else."

"Oo, I'm shakin' in my boots, old man," Chuuya mocked as he turned towards Hirotsu. "Do you even know who I am?"

"The king of the Sheep, was it?" Hirotsu spoke slowly.

"No, dumbass. I just happen to have a good card up my sleeve."

"The card of power, perhaps," Hirotsu replied with a knowing grin.

"So you're a gifted, too, huh?" Chuuya assumed, steeping towards the man.

"Be careful. This kid controls the gravity of anything he touches," Dazai warned, not moving from his place against the wrecked wall.

"Understood," Hirotsu replied before running at this boy who was opposing them.

Chuuya grinned and pushed himself off the ground before meeting Hirotsu's punch with a kick, only to find himself flying backwards. The ginger landed on a rooftop with a smirk. "Is that all you got, old man? I was expecting a little more. Don't disappoint me now!"

He launched himself towards the ground, keeping himself light so he jump around with ease. He leapt against a wall and pushed himself off before throwing a kick at the geezer.

Hirotsu pulled out a pistol only for it to be kicked out of his hand. Chuuya brought his leg down onto the man's shoulder which sent him to the ground on his knees.

Hirotsu reached up and grabbed Chuuya's shoulder. "It's all over for you now..."

"What're you talking about? I've beaten you," Chuuya spoke with a raised brow.

"You sure about that?"

Chuuya felt a hand on his neck and he stiffened. Sayuri shrieked as she fell from the sky, landing on the ground with a grunt.

Dazai stood behind the boy with his hand on his neck. "You've lost your ability to control gravity now."

"Oh?" Chuuya questioned.

"I'm able to nullify the powers of others," Dazai explained calmly.

"Now, boy," Hirotsu began as he looked at ginger with a hostile glint in his purple eyes. "It's time you faced a reckoning."

Chuuya reacted quickly, kicking Dazai in the stomach and reactivating his ability, pushing himself backwards as Hirotsu used his own ability. He stood on the wall with a glare and Hirotsu looked in shock.

"He got me," Dazai whined as he was splayed out on the ground. "Right before you could use your special ability, he kicked me. Once I let go, he was able to use his powers again."

Sayuri stood there cackling at Dazai. "So he used his gravity ability to fly backwards, and got away unscathed while putting you on the ground ass up."

Dazai grimaced as he looked at Sayuri who was clearly amused by his misfortune.

"I'll deal with you twerps later. Let's go, grandpa!" Chuuya shouted.

Chuuya shot off the wall before there was a purple light that exploded behind them.

The earth exploded and Dazai's eyes widened, grabbing onto Sayuri's hand as they were blown backwards.

Dazai tried to stand his ground as Sayu grasped onto his shirt, the wind shoving against them. In the center of the purple whirlwind, he saw the face of death. The old boss.

"That's him..." Sayu mumbled, but Dazai couldn't hear her over the loud wind rushing through his ears.

"The old boss," Dazai spoke before the wind got stronger. He ducked behind a stone wall as he wrapped himself around Sayuri, waiting out the chaos.

Sayuri clenched her eyes shut, waiting for the wind to stop.
