Chapter 13

Sayuri left the drugstore after getting some medicine for the day after.

Being an assassin in the mafia meant that she was not gonna risk getting pregnant, especially at sixteen. She wanted a baby, but not for a while.

She looked up at the sky with a sigh. The thoughts of the previous nights activities seared into her memory. She would cherish that feeling forever, unsure if she woukd ever have the opportunity to feel it again.

She took one last deep breath before making her way back towards the Yokohama dump.

She opened the door to Dazai's shipping container as quietly as she could before closing it behind her.

It was nearly pitch black, but with her ability she could easily navigate the darkness.

She found the brunette sleeping peacefully once again, his back facing her. She carefully climbed into the bed behind him with a warm smile, pressing her face to his back as she looped her arms around him.

She let her eyes close as she held onto the boy she called her friend. He was precious to her. She didn't think he would hold much meaning in giving himself to her, but to her, she hoped he knew that her giving up her innocence weighed more than gold.

She could feel his breathing and it allowed her to relax, sleep taking over her body.

Dazai's eyes flickered as he awoke from a dreamless sleep. He could feel someone pressed against his back and he knew it was Sayuri. No one else would have the guts to come into his home and cuddle him while he was sleeping.

He sighed, staring into the darkness that surrounded the two of them. He shifted in the arms of the woman who was holding him.

The movement caused Sayuri to wake from her light slumber. She could barely make out the silhouette of the mafioso, but she knew he was awake.

"I'm back," she murmured.

"I can see that," Dazai replied slowly.

"Liar. You can't see shit," Sayuri teased as she curled against him.

Dazai snorted a laugh before laying in silence for a few moments. "Don't tell your brother, okay?"

"Oh, absolutely not," Sayuri replied quickly as her head shot back. "I still need you around and I don't think you would appreciate being tortured."

"I'm good with not being tortured," he agreed with a nod. He moved to get out of bed, turning on the dim light that hung from his ceiling. "So, did you bring any snacks?"

"Huh?"

"Well, you said you were going to the store. Did you bring any snacks back?" Dazai questioned again, digging through her purse.

"Uh, no. I was a little busy making sure that you didn't get me pregnant," Sayuri snarked with a grimace, sitting up with her legs dangling off the edge of the bed.

Dazai found a stray mochi pack in her purse and pulled it out. "Though you wanted to be a mother."

"Not now, you wacko! And I doubt you want to be a father!"

"Couldn't be that hard, could it?" Dazai replied with a shrug. "I'm smart enough to figure it out."

"Would you just shut up," Sayuri snipped.

He turned to see her staring at the floor with a bright red glow coating her face. His lips pulled into a smirk as he stood up, walking towards her. "Do you not me to be a father? Or do you just not me to be the father?"

Sayuri's cheeks puffed up as she turned her gaze to him with narrowed eyes. "You just don't know how to shut up, do you?"

"Nope," he replied with a grin. He stood in front of her and gently put two fingers beneath her chin. "You know that."

Sayuri hummed quietly, her gaze softening a bit. She just studied his face, her color going back to normal.

"Am I that handsome?" Dazai teased as her eyes caressed each curve of his features. "I mean, I didn't know I was that fun to look at."

"You are the most beautiful person I have ever laid eyes on," she said quietly with a smile.

Dazai froze, having been joking before. Hearing the softness of her tone along with the warmth in her eyes, he had never believed something he didn't believe more in his life.

Sayuri reached up to gently cup his cheek, caressing his soft skin with her thumb. "I know you think everything important to you will disappear, but regardless if you think I'm important or not, I will follow you to the end of the earth. You're never gonna lose me."

Dazai felt his breath catch in his throat, his hands tingling as they started to tremble. What the hell was she doing to him. He had no idea.

"I promise."

He immediately grasped her wrist gently. "Don't make promises you can't keep."

"I assure you, Osamu, I can keep this promise. Nobody's killing me any time soon, and like it or not, you're stuck with me," she said gently.

"You say that, but no one ever stays forever. Death follows me wherever I go. I don't want you to die because of me. I won't let that happen," he said shakily.

"Osa, please, don't cry," Sayu spoke as she moved to wipe his cheek.

He was crying? He hadn't even felt the tears fall, but there he was, trembling as he began to cry.

He was tugged into a tight hug and he felt his cheek, feeling another tear. Where were these tears coming from? He was sure that he wasn't crying, but they weren't Sayuri's tears so they had to be his. Had he ever cried before? He couldn't remember.

He melted into Sayu's grasp, burying his face into her shoulder. He wasn't sure why he was supposedly crying, but feeling Sayu's arms around him made him feel so relaxed.

He wanted to stay in her arms forever, but time is fleeting. There was a knock at the door.

The two stiffened and looked towards the door.

"I'll get it," Sayuri said as Dazai let go of her before moving out of her way.

She grabbed her pistol from her purse, not taking any chances.

When she opened the door and saw a man with blonde long hair that was braided along the left side of his hairline. His hair was pulled into a ponytail that laid over his shoulder with a thin braid going through it. He was in the mafia mailman attire so she lowered her gun without removing her finger from the trigger.

"Miss Oda, Mister Dazai, the boss requests your presence," the man spoke calmly as he put a hand over his chest.

Sayuri looked at Dazai and they both immediately made eye contact. It was the third Monday of the month. Mori was in a conference meeting with the front company investors to make sure profits were steady and other business ventures that came up.

This was a trap.

"Alright. Let me grab my purse. Osa, get your ass ready," Sayuri spoke with a smile.

Dazai slipped on a white button down and threw a tie around his neck before grabbing his coat.

Sayu just grabbed her purse from Dazai's desk and walked towards the door.

The mailman waited for them before escorting them to his car.

While walking, Dazai cleared his throat. "So, are you going to kill us as soon as we get in the car or at a remote location?"

The man stopped in his tracks before turning to the two. He had a murderous glint in his chocolate eyes. His body became enveloped in a faint red hue before the ground he stood on began to rise into the air. As he stood on the broken ground, Sayuri had a moment of realization.

"He can control gravity?" Dazai mumbled.

"I know who you are," Sayuri spoke quickly as she stepped forward.

Both men looked at her in shock.

"Do you now?" The blonde sneered.

"Gravity manipulation," Sayuri replied as her eyes narrowed. "Your name is Paul Verlaine, is it not?"

Dazai's eyes widened, wondering how she came to that conclusion so quickly. Besides, Verlaine was dead. Rando, or technically Rimbaud, had said he killed him with his own hands. He was aware that Sayuri had done some digging on the two French assassins for Chuuya, so it was possible she had come across a description that this man matched.

"Very good," the man congratulated as his glare became playful. "I'm surprised you could tell by my ability."

Dazai stood in silence as he read the situation, contemplating his next move. He was depending on Sayuri to stall for time. They both knew that taking this man in a fight would be idiotic.

"You're after Chuuya, aren't you? That's what Rimbaud was after," Sayuri continued, watching as Verlaine lowered the boulder he had broke from the ground.

"You are quite the clever girl, aren't you?"

"Well, when you spend all your time around a super genius, it tends to rub off on you. Now, I'm gonna ask you this once. What the hell do you want with Chuuya?"

Verlaine stalked closer to the auburn haired assassin with a stone expression. "I want to free him. He has been chained down in this life. We're of a kind, Chuuya and I. Only I can free him from his torment. So I'll need to dispose of you both."

"But you need to kill Mori as well," Dazai finally spoke up. "That won't be possible without inside help."

Verlaine threw his head back as he released a howl of laughter. "And you think that you are to be the one to help me with this?"

"I would prefer not to be killed here like this. I made a promise to someone that I would go out on my own terms. That person made me a promise as well, so if they are to keep their promise, I must keep mine," Dazai replied coldly.

"Then I suppose I'll only need to erase one of you," Verlaine replied with a sigh as he turned his gaze back to Sayuri.

"You won't touch her. If you kill her, I will refuse to assist you," Dazai spoke with a sharp tone as his eyes narrowed. "I still need her abilities."

"How do I know she'll betray the mafia as easily as you?" Verlaine retorted.

"I do whatever Osa says. I could care less if the mafia were to crumble as long as he is safe," Sayuri replied.

Verlaine hummed as he put a knuckle to his chin. "I suppose I could also use your brother as leverage. Give me the information I need, or Sakunosuke Oda dies. Sound like a deal?"

Sayuri's eyes narrowed, but Dazai stepped forward.

"It's a deal. I would shake your hand, but I'm sure you wouldn't allow that," Dazai replied as he shoved his hands in his pocket.

"Not a chance. Though I'm confident I could kill you both without my ability," Verlaine said, copying Dazai's stance.

"Give me twenty four hours. I'll have what you need," Dazai said.

"Twenty four hours. If I don't have that information by then, you both die, along with the other Oda sibling."

"Then we better get to work. Mind giving us a lift to headquarters," Dazai spoke, glancing at Sayuri who was seathing.

He knew that she was itching to kill this man slowly and painfully. Nobody threatened her brother and got away with it, until now that is.

Verlaine let them into the backseat of his vehicle and drove them to the mafia headquarters.

After Verlaine left them, Sayuri released an audible growl.

"Sayu, you need to-"

"Calm down. I know. Let's just get this shit done. What's your plan?"

"I have a plan?"

Sayuri gave him a deadpanned look. "No. You just offered to throw the entire mafia under the bus in a split second for no reason. Of course you have a plan."

"Damn. You really do know me," Dazai teased before he released a yelp as Sayuri swatted the back of his head. "Geez! Just follow me. I'm gonna need all the help I can get on this."
