Chapter 49 "Hello and Goodbye"

"You're such an ass." I shake my head, kicking Finn in the shin.

"Owe, you are so mean to me, Cupcake." Finn grimaces, rubbing his shin.

"You stole the whole bowl of popcorn. Correction, my popcorn from my house." I cross my arms over my chest and lay back against the arm of the couch.

"Actually, this is technically my house too because I'm temporarily staying here and Mrs Thomas said 'my house is your house'." He told me, making a mock girl voice at the end.

I roll my eyes and lay my kegs on his lap as she throws popcorn into his mouth.

"Fine then I get to pick the movie." I grab the remote from the coffee table and start clicking through the channels.

"I am not watching a girl movie. Put on something good." I roll my eyes.

"You pick the movie then I get the popcorn." He pouts and hugs the bowl to his chest. "Then shut up."

He leans over and places the bowl on the coffee table and suddenly I'm lifted up from my spot on the couch and placed on his lap so I'm straddling him.

"How about we just forget about the movie and do something else." He purrs in my ear and begins kissing my neck.

I smirk as he makes a trail of kissing from my neck, to my jaw, to my lips. Our lips move against each other as I wrap my arms around his neck. I bite on his bottom lip softly, causing Finn to release a small groan from the back of his throat.

He moves his hands under my shirt and traces circles on my skin with his finger, sending shivers down my spine. I break the kiss and place my lips on his neck where I start to kiss and bite on his sweet spot.

"Cupcake," Finn groans through his husky voice. "We should stop."

"I don't want to stop." I whisper his his neck and I felt him shiver from under me.

He slides his hands to my waist and pushing me back to his lower thighs, breaking my left from his skin.

"As much as I want to, you know what your therapist said." He tells me through his heavy breathing.

I pout."Oh what does she know? She's thirty and single. She's just bitter she can't get any."

Finn chuckles and squeezes my waist. "You know that's not true and I'm not going to help you defy her. I'm trying to help you get better."

I roll my eyes. "You're no fun."

"You're just bitter you can't get any." He smirks.

I cross my arms over my chest. "Yeah I am and you don't seem to care."

He laughs and leans forwards slightly to peck my lips.

"Hope everyone looks decent, parent coming through." A voice calls from behind us and I quickly jump off Finn's lap and lay back down on the couch.

My mother smiles at us as she closes the front door behind her.

"Hey, what have you two been doing today?" She asks and Finn and I share a glance.

"Just hanging around." I answer her, shrugging my shoulders.

She nods and places her keys in the bowl next to the door.

"I'm going to get started on dinner so don't fill up on popcorn." I nod as she walks into the kitchen.

"I'm just going to...go to the bathroom." Finn stands up from the couch and limps his way down the hall.

I was confused until I noticed the odd lump in his pants. I had to cover my mouth with my hand to keep from laughing.

Once I was alone, I grab my phone from the coffee table and start opening snapchats and watching stories. A loud crash sounded from the kitchen and I practically jumped off the couch.

"Mom?" I ask, peering into the kitchen doorway.

My mother was sitting on one of the kitchen table chairs, a large pan sitting on the floor and a cabinet door hanging wide open. She was slightly hunched over, one of her hands holding her bump.

"I-I'm okay." She takes a deep breath in, squeezing her eyes shut.

"What's going on? Are you in pain?" I quickly run over to her, dropping to my knees so I'm closer to eye level with her.

"Uh-" She takes another deep breath. "I'm fine, baby. I-I'm just having contractions."

My eyes went wide. "You're not fine mom, we need to get you to the hospital!" I scramble to my feet and start towards the stairs to grab the baby bag she packed.

"Honey, I'm fine. I've been counting them for a while. Unless their less their three minutes apart, we don't need to go anywhere yet."

And just as she said that, she let out a small groan and squeezed her eyes shut.

"Okay, that was definitely less than three minutes apart, mom. I'm going to get the bag." She didn't say anything but nod her head.

When I return with the duffel bag, I grab her hand to help her to her feet.

"What's going on?" I turn my head and see Finn standing in the doorway, watching between us with curious eyes.

"Finn, go start the car." He stood there, watching us. "Now!"

That seemed to register in his head because before I knew it, he was running out the door.

I lift her to her feet and walk her out the front door, the baby bag hanging from the inside of my elbow. Once I get her in the back seat, I jump in the passenger seat, next to Finn who starts to drive.

"What's going on?" He asks me again, making a right turn.

"She's having contractions so get to the hospital as quick as possible." His eyes widen and quickly turns left as I take my phone out of my back pocket.

I swiftly tap on my dad's contact.

"Hey, sweetheart, what a lovely surprise." He answers, the echoing sounds of phones ringing in the background.

"Dad, you need to meet us at the hospital."

"What? Why?" His voice was panicked now and I heard shifting coming from the other line.

"Mom is in labor, Finn is driving us right now." I grab ahold of my seat when Finn suddenly swerves the car to make a right turn. "Slow down! I'd like to live to meet my sibling, thank you very much."

My mother was taking deep breaths in the back seat when I glanced at the mirror on the side of the car. Her face was scrunched up in pain and my heart stung for her.

"I'm on my way, and tell Finn to drive carefully!" Was all my father said on the other line before hanging up.

"I'm sorry! I don't know how to deliver a baby so I'd like to get to the hospital before I'd have to." I roll my eyes at him, holding on tight to the handle bar above my window.

"There will be no baby to deliver if you kill us!"

"Will y'all stop bickering up there?" My mother snapped at us, making both Finn and I shut our mouths.

Only two minutes had passed when we arrived at the hospital. Finn and I helped my mother inside, one of us on either side of her body.

The lady behind the desk looked up with a smile, but it quickly faded when she noticed what was happening.

"My mom is having contractions." I told her as my mother let out a low groan, her hands rubbing her bump.

The lady nodded, calling someone down the hall. A mal sure appeared, a wheelchair in his hands. We helped my mother sit down in it and they started to wheel her down the hall.

"Sorry, father only for now." The male nurse told as when we tried to follow them.

I groan, walking over to the line of seats to place my bum on one. Finn sat down next to me, laying his arm over my shoulder to pull me closer to him.

"Everything is going to be fine." He whispered in my ear and I lay my head on his shoulder.

"She looked like she was in a lot of pain. I am not excited for that."

"Are you saying you want to have my kids someday?" Finn questioned and I could hear the smirk in his voice.

I lift my head to look at him, and sure enough, there was a smirk on his face.

"Please, you think we're going to last that long? Because I don't want kids for a while."

He gently pulls my arm towards him and I climb over the chair arm to straddle him on his lap. I wrap my arms around his neck and he places his hands on my hips.

"I sure hope so. I was thinking two boys and a girl." I laugh and he smiles.

"Three kids? I was thinking more like one." He shakes his head.

"Oh please, think about how boring life would be. Don't you think life needs a little crazy?" I raise an eyebrow at him.

"I'm sorry, is being kidnapped, almost murdered, and watching someone die in front of you not enough crazy for you?" He chuckles.

"Three kids, final offer." I roll my eyes.

"Two. A boy and a girl." He smirks.

"You know you can't actually pick the gender, right?" I narrow my eyes at him.

"Yeah, I know that."

"Okay fine, one boy and one girl." I smile contently, leaning forward to lay my head on his shoulder. "So, do you want a brother or a sister."

"Brother, all the way. Having another girl around would be annoying. Plus, I like being my dad's only girl." I run my hand up and down his arm, breathing in his scent to calm me down.

"Where is she?" A different panicked voice asks, making me jump away from Finn, causing me to fall to the floor. "Sorry, didn't mean to scare you."

I look up at my father and narrow my eyes at him. He must be really panicked because he didn't even comment about our compromising position.

"She's in room 224. We're not allowed in yet for whatever reason." I answer him, standing up from the ground and I dust my pants off.

He nods at me, running down the hall. Literally, he ran. I've never seen him run in my life.

I sat down on Finn's lap again, this time so my feet are hanging off his thighs and sitting on the arm rest. Laying my head on his chest, he slowly strokes my hair and we sit like that for a while.

Saturday, May 2nd at 7:58 pm, my baby brother was born.

I waited my entire life for a sibling. I used to watch these kids in the park when I was little and wonder what it was like to have a friend to go through life with. Natalia was the closest thing I had to a sibling, until now.

I was the third person to hold him. His eyes were still closed so I couldn't see his eye color, but he had my dad's nose. He was so small in my arms, I feared I would drop him. He was wrapped in a blue blanket and he had a lot of hair on his head.

I fell in love instantly.

Finn and I were in my mother's hospital room, me sitting on her bed at the end of her feet, holding my little brother. Finn was standing next to me, my father sitting next to my mother on the bed. They were all watching me hold him, slightly smiles on their faces.

I couldn't get enough of this little guy.

"What are y'all going to name him?" Finn broke the silence, placing his hand on my shoulder.

My parents exchanged glances, smiles spreading across their faces.

"We were thinking Noah was a nice name." I look up at them, my own smile stretching my lips.

"I think it's perfect."

"Yeah, me too." Finn added, giving my shoulder a slight squeeze.

"Alright, I heard there was a new Thomas baby born!" We all whip around heads around to the wide open door, my aunt standing in the doorway.

"Ramona?" My father questioned, his eyebrows raised high.

"The one and only." Her eyes fell down to me and her smile immediately brightened. "Oh my God, Zara, you've gotten so big!" She wrapped her arms around my torso, care as to not hit the baby.

"What are you doing here?" I chuckle as she let go to sit next tot me on the bed.

"I heard I finally got a nephew. It's about time, baby Jay. I've been asking for one for years." My father rolls his eyes and I carefully hand off my baby brother to my aunt, despite how much I want to keep holding him.

"We're here." A different voice sings, making us all turn our heads towards the doorway, again.

"Grandma!" I cheer, jumping from the bed like it was on fire.

I haven't seen my father's side of the family in about a year. We usually have 'family reunion' dinner once and awhile, but life has just been so crazy lately.

I wrap my arms around my grandmother, inhaling her signature scent that reminds me of my childhood.

"Bonjour ma famille!" My pull back from my grandmother's warm embrace to see my grandfather standing next to her.

"Grand-père!" I wrap my arms around him now, remembering how much I love his hugs.

"Comment allez-vous, mon amour?" He whispers in my ear, patting the back of my head.

"Je vais bien." I pull back slightly and he cups my face in his hands, giving me a warm smile before kissing my forehead.

"So, Zara, who's this?" I turn around and see Ramona eyeing Finn, who looks slightly uncomfortable.

"Oh, uh." I scratch the back of my neck, walking over to his side to take his hand in mine. "This is Finn, my boyfriend."

"How nice to finally meet a boy Zara brought home." My grandmother stretches her hand out to Finn, who shakes it politely.

"You too." He leaned into my ear and whispered: "I didn't know you could speak French."

"I've been fluent my whole life, and so is my dad and aunt Ramona." I whisper back to him.

"Petit ami mon cul. Ma petite-fille est trop jeune pour sortir avec quelqu'un!" My father, Ramona, and I chuckle at him.

"That's what I said, papa." My father cuts in, his arm pulling my mother close to him.

"What did he say?" My grandmother looks at us, her eyes narrowed. "Victor, if you swore I swear to God-"

She continued her lecture, rambling on about how not to cuss but I couldn't hear her anymore over the laughter in the room.

It's crazy has drastic my life has changed in just the span of a few months.

I look around at all the people that love me, my heart swelling with joy. I hadn't realized until now that I have always been loved. From the day I was born, by my parents and grandparents and aunts. I was just so busy drowning in my insecurities to see that.

And I owe everything I have to Finn for saving me from myself.
