Chapter 44 "Do You Love Her?"

James's POV

"Alright, that's enough of the gooey shit. You have twelve hours to hand Bella over or she gets it." I could hear the venom in his voice even through the phone.

"Zara-" I try to call out to her, but the line went dead before I could even finish the word.

I could feel my body run hot and in a fit a rage, I grab the phone from the stand before turning around and throwing it against the wall. Megan let out a yelp and Delilah screamed.

My daughter needs me. She's hurt. She's scared and I can't do anything. My princess is in danger and I have no idea where she is.

I stumble my way to the couch as the first tear slips from my eyes before I collapse, holding my face with my hands.

There were no words spoken, my sobs being the only sound echoing in the room.

"Finn," I heard Megan's voice call out from in the kitchen. "You have to have some idea as to where he took her, right?"

There silence for a second. "No, I don't. But I can't just sit around here and wait for the police. We're going to have to take this into our own hands."

I lift my head from the couch to see Finn grabbing a hold of the doorknob.

"Where are you going?" I question, sitting up on the couch.

"To my house to look for clues, would you watch Lucy for me?" He asked, his eyes looked behind me to the girls in the kitchen.

"I'm coming with you." I announce, standing up from the couch and wiping a tear that slid down my cheek.

"James." The broken voice made my heart shatter in my chest.

I turn around in hesitance, afraid to see her face. She has her own tears streaming down her cheeks and her once bright eyes were now dark and cloudy. My heart ached to make her smile.

"I'll be back soon, okay?" I tell her once I reach her, kneeling down so we're face to face.

"I'm scared. What if he-"

"Hey," I cut her off, grabbing the sides of her face gently. "Don't think like that. We're going to have our baby girl in our arms again soon. I promise."

Her eyes dashed between mine. I could tell she was trying to believe me but she was having trouble. A few more tears slid down her cheeks and I wiped them away.

"I love you so much." She whispered to me as her bottom lip quivered, taking in a shaky breath.

"I love you so much more." She squeezed her eyes shut and I kissed her cheek. "Try not to stress, it's not good for our baby." I whisper to her and she nods her head, taking in another shaky breath.

I stand up and turn back around to Finn, who was watching us with curious eyes.

"Let's go." I tell him.

~~~
Finn puts the key in the lock of the front door, twisting it until we hear the little click sound. He shoves the key back in his pocket and pushes the door open. In front of us was a long hallway, rows of doors on either side.
"Where do you think we should look first?" I ask Finn as she shut the door.
"Probably his office. He never lets anybody in there so I'm sure he's hiding something." I nod my head as Finn starts towards the stairs.
He turns a couple of times until he stops at a door at the very end of the hall. He jiggles the doorknob but it doesn't open. I was about to lose hope of getting inside, when he gets on his knees and sticks a bobby pin he had in his pocket inside the lock.
"Why do you know how to pick a lock?" I question as we hear the click sound.
"My uncle is not a good person. I'll explain everything after we get Zara back." I nod and he gets back up to his feet, pushing the door open.
To my ultimate dismay, the room looks normal. The walls were painted plain white and there was a glass desk sitting in the middle of the fairly small room with a laptop sitting on it. Behind the desk was a black leather wheely chair and under it, a black circular rug. Against the wall to the right of the desk, a black file cabinet stood. On the walls hung various paintings of random things, some landscape, some abstract.
"This is not what I was expecting." Finn spoke my thoughts, stepping into the room. "I always thought there was crazy in here. Like stacks of drugs or dead bodies."
It frightened me that he honestly thought his uncle would have those things at all, let alone keep them in the same house his nephew lived in.
"I'll search the computer, you look for clues in the files." I tell him and he nods silently.
I walk over to desk, taking a seat in the wheely chair and tap the mouse to wake the computer up.
The black screen turned into a picture of Bella and Kyle from high school, sitting in the cafeteria. She was kissing his cheek and he was smiling at the camera.
That's not creepy at all.
"How long have you and Mrs Thomas been together?" Finn asks into the silence as he was digging through one of the drawers in the filing cabinet.
"We started dating at sixteen and got married at twenty-six." I smiled, thinking about back at how beautiful she looked in her wedding dress.
"How do you do it? How did you two last sixteen years together?" He was watching me carefully, now, instead of focusing on the files.
"Even though we might seem like the perfect couple, we're not. There isn't such a thing. Every couple fights, but it's the ones that truly love each other and trust each other that last." I tell him honestly and I notice his Adam's apple move.
"Zara could do so much better than me." I heard him mumble, his eyes falling down to the ground.
"Why do you say that?" He must've thought I hadn't heard him because I notice his cheeks turn a little pink.
He was silent for a few seconds.
"I somehow manage to keep hurting her. She trusted me and I blew it because I was too drunk to know what I was doing." He leaned his body against the wall and slid down until he was sitting. "I couldn't even keep her safe from my own uncle."
"Look, I don't know what drunken mistake you made." I took a breath in, thinking the worst. "But Kyle kidnapping Zara was not your fault." I tell him, turning my body to face him.
"But he's my uncle. I should've known or at least had some idea. I could've saved her..." He trailed off, looking down at his fingers.
I click the space-bar on the laptop and appears a text box that said password in small grey letters.
Alright, if I was a crazy, obsessive, thirty year old man, what would my password be.
I type the letters: B E L L A
Not surprisingly, it unlocks.
I quickly open his internet browser and click on his history in hopes to find anything that would give us any indication as to where Zara is.
"Do you love her?" I ask him and he whips his head up, his eyes wide.
"What?" He chuckles uncomfortably.
"Do you love Zara?"
He bit down on the corner of his bottom lip, turning his gaze back to his hands.
I notice that one of his searches is abandoned places near me. The next search is abandoned places in the middle of nowhere.
What kind of search is that?
"No...I don't know...maybe?" He starts to stumble over his words."How would I know if I'm in love? I'm only sixteen."
"Finn, love doesn't have an age restriction. If you two absolutely truly love each other, Zara will forgive you for that drunken mistake. You know why? Because if you truly love her, you will never do something that would hurt her ever again."
I'm not blind, anyone with two working eyes could see that something was going between them. Zara has never been as happy as she has been while knowing Finn. As much as I hate the idea of my princess dating, I wouldn't want it to be with anyone else but Finn.
I look back at the computer screen and see a search that looked like an address, so I click on it.
"Finn, I think I found something." I usher him, motioning my hand for him to come over and look.
He practically jumped from the floor, using the back of the wheely chair so he doesn't fall over.
On the screen was a google maps of an old farmhouse. There didn't seem to be any buildings around it and the grass looked overgrown and dead.
"Didn't Zara say something about an old farmhouse on that call?" Finn pointed out.
"He's always been pretty dumb, let's go." I tell him, closing the laptop before pushing myself up from the wheely chair.
"Wait," Finn stops me before I could open the office door.
He walks past me out of the door and gestures for me to follow him with his hand. We walk into what looks to be Finn's bedroom, considering the walls were painted dark blue and he had band posters hanging on the walls. He walks over to the bedside table and opens the drawer, pulling out a metal object.
"Whoa," I gasp as he hold the gun in his hand. "Why do you have that?"
"Uncle Kyle gave it to me. Look, we can't go in there unarmed. If I know anything about my uncle, it's that he always has his gun on him so you need to take this." He extends his arm out to me, the gun only inches from my torso.
"What about you? Do you have another one?"
He shakes his head. "We only have two and Uncle Kyle has the other one. I'll be fine, it's not like he would shoot his nephew."
He pauses for a second, his eyebrows furrowing together.
"Right?"
