Chapter 27 "Memories"

Zara's POV

I rocked my head back and forth, dancing around my room like a madman. My earbuds were on full blast, blaring a song from Sleeping With Sirens.

My hair wiped back and forth with my head, jumping around my room and throwing my arms in different directions.

The sudden yanking of one of my earbuds brings me from my lyrical high.

"Wow, you have some moves." A familiar voice said. I open my eyes to see Abby standing in the doorway of my room.

"Aunt Abby!" I squeal and she smiles, running up to her to bring her into a hug.

"Hey, baby Zar." She said, squeezing me in a hug.

"What are you doing here? I thought you were supposed to be in Australia by now."

Abby was probably the most carefree person I've ever met, next to me. She's twenty-six and travels the world by herself. I aspire to be like her once I'm out of high school.

"Well I was, but I missed you." I squealed and pulled her into another hug.

"Oh my god, this is great! I finally have someone cool to hang out with." I smile widely and Abby chuckles.

"That hurts." I heard my mother say as she walked in from behind Abby. "I can't believe you don't think I'm cool."

A wash basket filled with clothes sat on her hip and she was wear  a shirt that showed off her growing bump. That's right, she started showing a couple days ago.

"You're my mother, you're never cool." I joke, sitting on my bed.

"Yeah, alright." She rolled her eyes before exiting my room.

Once she was gone, Abby closed the door and sat on my bed next to me, staring at me expectantly with a smirk.

"What?" I chuckle, sitting back against my headboard.

"So, tell me about life. I haven't seen you in ages, we need to catch up."

I roll my eyes. "There isn't much to tell."

As the words left my mouth, the sounds of something rattling could be heard from outside. A couple second later, Finn opened the window and climbed through.

"You really need to keep a latter out for me or someth-" He stopped talking when he turned around and noticed Abby sitting on my bed. "Whoops, didn't know you had a company." He chuckled nervously, shpving his hands in his jean pockets.

Abby turned to me, her eyes wide with a smirk on her face. "A hot boy crawls through your window and you tell me there's nothing to tell?" She whispers, making me give her the Shut-The-Fuck-Up look.

She stands and reaches her arm out towards Finn. "Hi, I'm Abby, her aunt."

"Nice to meet you, I'm Finn." He replied with his charming smile, grabbing her hand and shaking it. "I didn't know you had an aunt." Finn said to me.

"I actually have three, two biological and one is a close friend of my parents." I inform him and he throws his hands up in the air.

"Well, I feel excluded." He jokes, sitting down my bed next to me.

Abby quickly takes her seat back on my bed and stares at us expectantly.

"Why do you keep looking at me like that?"

She's starting to creep me out.

"So, are you guys together?" She asked abruptly, causing my eyes to grow wide.

Finn and I share a glance with each other and I could feel my cheeks heating up.

"W-What? Us? Pshh, please. I wouldn't go out with him if he was the last guy on Earth." I manage to spit out, my heart beat getting faster.

What's happening to me?

"Y-Yeah, she's like a little sister to me." Finn says, making me snap my head in his direction.

Little sister?

Abby raises her eyebrow at us and smiles, but much to my relief, she changes the subject.

"So, what happened to your hand?" She asks Finn, her gaze settled on the bandages around his right knuckles.

"Oh um, I got in a fight at school." He told her.

Before he went to the principal's office, I made him swear never to tell anyone about what I told him the night before. Not even my parents know about Parker, and I want to keep it that way.

"Zara, looks like you got yourself a bad boy here." She teases and I have to resist the urge to smack my forehead with my palm.

"She hasn't got any boy." Another voice said, causing all of us to snap our heads towards the door. My father stood there with his arms crossed and his eyebrow raised. "I don't remember you walking through the front door, Finn."

Finn smiled innocently and let out a nervous chuckle.

"Sorry, sir. It won't happen again." He told my father, who continued to stare at him.

He didn't believe him for a second.

"Well, since you're here, might as well come downstairs with all of us. Lunch is ready."

~~~
"Wow, Mrs T, you're absolutely glowing. You're totally rocking the baby bump." Finn exclaimed with his ever so charming smile as we entered the dining room.
Finn got a week long suspension from school for the fight so he hasn't seen my mother in a few days.
"Save the sweet talk for someone who will buy it." My mother told him, her own smile tugging on her lips. "But thanks anyways."
Finn and I take a seat at the table while my mother finishes setting the plates down and Abby and my father take a seat across from us. My mother places a pot of Mac and Cheese in the middle of the table and a plate of hamburgers.
Everyone begins taking their servings and digs in without hesitation.
"Oh, I just remembered." My mother exclaims halfway through lunch.
She stood up from her seat and exited the dining room. She returned a couple seconds later with a large cardboard box in her hands.
"Woah, Belle, you know you're not supposed to be carrying heavy things." My father quickly stood up nervosuly from his seat and walked towards her to grab the box.
"Jay, it's like one pound, I got it." My mother chuckled while my father just watches her place the box down on the floor with caution. "I found a box of our old highschool things."
My father's face lit up as he walked around the box.
"Man, I haven't seen this thing since graduation." He said as he began to dig around the box.
He soon pulled out a little black frame with the glass smashed. He admired it with a smile.
"Why did you put a broken frame in the box?" I ask, totally bewildered at my father.
I knew he was sentimental about some things, but not like this.
He turned the frame towards us to reveal the picture inside. It was a black and white picture with a blob in the center. I notice my mom's face light up.
"Oh god, James. I can't believe you saved the frame." My mother chuckled, covering her mouth with her hand.
I shared a confused glance with Finn and Abby.
"This is the first sonogram picture of you I got." My father finally told me.
"Why is the frame broken?"
Both my father and mother chuckled. "My girlfriend at the time saw it and threw it on the ground."
Ah, Ms Fuck Me's mother.
My mother reached into the box and pulled out two blue pieces of rectangular shaped paper.
"What are those?" I ask and my father started to burst out laughing when he saw what they were.
"These," My mother started "Are two tickets to the Winter Formal for sophomore year."
"You kept your tickets?" Finn cut in, chuckling under his breath.
"Actually, those are Megan's and I's tickets." I raise my eyebrow.
"You and aunt Megan were a thing?" I exclaim, completely dumbfounded.
My mother laughed. "No, but I thought they were."
"I'm so confused." I shake my head, looking between my parents.
"Long story short," My mother said, stepping around the box to wrap her arms around my father, who put his hands on her waist. "The Winter Formal was the first time we told each other how we feel about each other and now we couldn't be happier." She said, her eyes never leaving my father.
"That's right, mon amour." My father said before leaning down to kiss my mother.
"Ah, please stop with the PDA. We're trying to eat here." Abby cuts in, her nose scrunched up in disgust.
My parents chuckle, before they kiss again.
I furrow my eyebrows as I spot something in the box, so I stand up and grab it.
"Why did you put a magazine in here?"
The front cover said Show Off Your Summer Body with a picture of a thin blonde girl in a pink bikini laying in a pool floaty. I felt Finn standing behind me now, looking over my shoulder at the magazine as I flipped through h pages.
"Woah, look at the babe." Finn says as I stop on a page, pointing out a small brunette girl whose hair reached her chest.
She was wearing a blue bikini and licking an ice cream cone by the beach.
My mother come around to my right and peaks at the page, her cheeks turning pink.
"That 'babe' happens to be me." She said, and my jaw dropped.
"Mom, no!" I gasp, turning back to the magazine.
Now that I look at it, that girl looks eerily similar to my mother.
"Holy shit, Mrs T, you were hot!" Finn exclaimed, and I elbow him in the ribs.
He let out a low howl of pain.
"I mean, " He moaned, catching his breath. "You're still hot."
I roll my eyes and elbowed him again.
"I didn't know you modeled." I said, looking at my mother as Finn moaned in pain.
I always knew my mother was beautiful and always thought she would make a lot from moeling, but I didn't know she actually did.
She smiled timidly and picked at her fingernails. "It's not really something I like to remember. My mother forced me into it after my father died so she wouldn't have to work."
"After she got pregnant with you, she tried to force me into doing it too." Abby cut in, leaning her head on her elbow that sat on the table.
"So you stopped modeling because of me?"
"Honey," My mother smiled, pushing a strand of hair behind my ear. "You saved me from it. In fact," She stepped back and wrapped her arms around my father's torso. "You brought me and your father together, and that's something I'm forever thankful for."
I smiled as I they kissed again, the smiles never leaving their faces.
