WAKING UP TO A MIGRAINE seemed to be the least of her problems.
Kayla was back at the school somehow. She'd recognize the place even if she had been sent back to the past.
The Salvatore School or the Salvatore Boarding House, she figured with a small pang in her chest. Her home. But not her home.
Her eyes stared up at the ceiling, the first moment of calm she's had since being out of Malivore and meeting Stefan who if she was right was the same Stefan from the memorial at the school. The one who wrote all those diaries every one at the school had read at least once.
"You're awake" Kayla heard from behind her. She twisted her head from where it was resting in a couch's armrest to see a brunette girl. "Damon explained. Stefan just woke up so it was a matter of time you did as well. I mean, you're human so it made sense that it took a bit more time for you to wake up"
The sweetness and relief that came from her made Kayla want to scrunch her nose in disgust. Great. She sounded like Josie. All soft and kind. Somehow, she preferred Josie's voice than this girl's. Great. She didn't even know her name and she already didn't like her.
"Uhh..." Kayla sat up properly in the couch, throwing her legs to the ground, frowning at the girl, "Where am I?"
The girl walked forward, "You're in Mystic Falls. Virginia" She already knew that. Duh. "My name is Elena by the way. What's yours?"
Elena.
Elena freaking Salvatore was in front of her. Right. How come she didn't recognize the famous doctor from town?
Well, suppose her name is Elena Gilbert now, right? Jeremy's sister. She's met the hunter a couple of times at the school whenever he'd drop a stray - cough, Rafael and Landon cough -. It felt weird knowing what these people were in the future but not knowing them personally. Nor right now.
Kayla cleared her throat, "Uh, Kayla" she stood, woobling a bit on her feet. Elena reached out to her to steady her, a look of concern crossing her face "I'm fine" she said, a bit more harsh than she meant to, swatting Elena's hand.
Immediately, a kicked puppy look appareaed in her face as if Kayla had physically hurt her. Ew. She was definitely Josie but ten times worse.
Elena stepped back, as if realizing Kayla thought she was a stranger who wanted to hurt her. "I'm sorry. I just wanted to make sure you were okay"
"I am" Kayla rolled her eyes. Elena grimaced but gave her a small smile, "Why am I here?"
"You and Stefan are linked" Elena explained "It means that-"
"I know what that means" Kayla interrupted in annoyance. Elena closed her mouth, blinking in confusion "I'm a witch, Elena. The supernatural slang is not new to me"
"Damon didn't mention you were a witch" Elena told her.
Kayla shrugged, "Damon was a bit preoccupied for his brother to give a damn about me, speaking of which..." she looked around, "Where's Stefan? The wicked bitch of the west fried his brain, consequently mine to do some spell"
Elena's eyebrows raised. "Wait. You remember everything?"
Kayla frowned at her. "Duh. Hard to forget when some witch barbecues your head" she paused "If that's what vampires feel when I give them aneurysms. Damn, I pity them"
Elena frowned in concern, "Follow me"
Elena turned around, leaving to one of the hallways.
Follow. Oh, this was definitely something Kayla knew how to do well.
Kayla followed Elena to another room where they saw Stefan sitting by the fire place, his back to them.
"Stefan?" Elena called out.
Stefan didn't move at the sound of his name. Kayla looked at Elena, frowning. Elena's face crumbled as she looked down, sighing.
"What is it now?" Kayla asked, sighing. Literally no one in Mystic Falls had good luck. No one.
At the sound of her voice, Stefan's head snapped up, turning around in the sofa to face them.
"You" Stefan furrowed his eyebrows, pointing at Kayla. "I do remember you"
Elena's eyes widened in shock, looking between Stefan and Kayla.
Kayla stated at Stefan in confusion.
