Chapter 2 | Worthless

Patton had missed out on two Sander Sides videos and everyone was worried about him. That wasn't his main goal... but that's what seemed to happen. Virgil had tried to reach out to Patton on multiple occasions, but to no avail. Patton tried so hard to make it seem like he was okay, but the words that Thomas had said whorled around in his head. He didn't help at all, he was... worthless. He stared at himself in his childhood mirror. What is wrong with me?  He thought. His thoughts grew darker and darker, he was suddenly very, very, depressed.

He didn't think anyone knew what he was going through. All the self-depredating dad jokes were made as an outlet for someone to help him. It was a silent attempt of a cry for help. Virgil interrupted his thoughts as he knocked on the not so happy father figure's door.

"Patton... it's Virgil," he said quietly.

Patton continued to look down, ironically, having an inner battle with himself, on whether to open the door or not. Virgil, however, became increasingly worried for Patton and picked the lock. Patton quickly wiped his ever flowing tears with his beige cardigan. Virgil saw Patton and immediately hugged him.

"Are you okay?" he asked, genuinely worried about his... dad.

"I'm fine, why would you worry about a mistake like me..." Patton said, meaning for it to be a joke, which Virgil did not find very funny.

"What are you talking about? You aren't a mistake. Is this about what Thomas said about you not helping?" Virgil suddenly realized why Patton had become so distant from everyone.

"Never mind... I think you should leave now," Patton sighed softly.

Virgil was shocked, but nodded. He let go of Patton and left the loving sanctuary. Virgil grew not worried, but terrified. The dad-loving joke master was not happy like he appeared. He thought that it must go deeper than what Thomas had said two videos prior. Then he wondered why Thomas and the other sides didn't feel depressed like Patton did. Was it Virgil's fault? No! This story isn't about him!

Patton stared at his now closed door. Had he been to harsh on his dark strange son? He was just upset, and yet he didn't want anyone to know he was. He knew he needed to show up in the next video or he would be bombarded with questions. If he was okay and if he was coming back. The comment section was already flooded with comments of them wanting their cat loving dad to come back. Was he ready though?

Whether the other sides wanted to admit it or not, they missed Patton. He was the light that no one could provide, but him. He was the balance everyone needed. Although no one would say that out loud. Thomas as many would think otherwise, was feeling the effects of the absence of his morality. Every decision he made was because of him. He felt guilty for what he said.

Honestly, no one knew if Patton was coming back.
