Pet's Peeves In Writing #2: The "Perfect" Person

This is the second in a series of writing rants. What I'm gonna say is based off a few things I've seen people do, including Think_Insiration's "Zia's Blog of ... um, something!!" xXTheDragonRidersXx's "DR's blog of Writing (...and other things)" Parogar's "Haters Gonna Hate" and a few others.

This is basically going to be a short [yeah right] collection of things I hate as a reader. If any of them apply to you, please try not to take offence. Like I always say, use it as constructive criticism. Build upon it. I know I'm not the greatest writer, and this is not intended to offend, but some of these ... *sigh* You'll see.

If you don't want to continue reading, by all means, you don't have to. This may offend, but every word is true..

The "Perfect" Person

I have actually seen a few rants about this, and I have ranted to people [and myself. Don't judge me!] about this topic, and it is one of my most hated. The so called "perfect" person. This person has perfect looks, a perfect personality, knows what to say when, often has phenomanal powers that makes the more powerful than the real powerful main character; is perfect, in short. Let me say this in the nicest way possible ... THESE PEOPLE DO NOT EXIST!

As bad as this can be in an original, its worse in a fanfiction book. If the author of a particular book series (or TV show, or movie, or anything) decides that a specific character is as powerful as they get, why would you make a character more powerful?? That's like saying, "[Author], I think your powerful main character is stupid. Therefore I am going to go completely overboard and create a character ten times as powerful AND be awesomely perfect at the same time so all the readers out there can be super jealous of my powerful AND perfect character that doesn't even make sense!"

^^ What?

And people who look perfect or/and have a perfect personality are either some strange Frankenstien-like concoction or a robot. There's no such thing as the "perfect person." Get that through your head now.

This sort of thing infuriates me, because its stupid and so many people do it.

If you're having trouble creating a character, heck, ask me. I have a Character Storage Bin where I make characters when I get bored, including a personality, appearance and backstory. Let me get this straight; every character needs at least one personality and one appearance flaw. At least. Okay, here's an example from my Character Storage Bin [please do not use this character, as they belong to me and are legally mine]

Name: Alice Jenkinson

Gender: Girl

Age: 16

Appearance: Alice has choppy, straight blonde hair with strands of light brown just passed her shoulders. Her skin is light but not incredibly so, and she's quite short with a splash of freckles across her nose. Her eyes are dark oak brown.

Personality: Alice is an active girl within her community, and can often be found doing volunteer work. However she often takes on too many jobs and stresses herself out. She is quick to anger and hates being made fun of. She's one for world peace, but isn't afraid to throw a punch if you insult her, her friends, or her family.

Backstory: Alice grew up a single child with her mother after her father died in the army. This made her determined for peace and harmony. Her mother was a environmentalist and encouraged Alice in her endeavours. Alive was often bullied at school for being a "nerd" or for the odd volunteer jobs she did.

Weapons (if any): n/a

Other Details: Alice is a vegetarian.

I created Alice not too long ago for this specific purpose. Let's take a look at her.

Personality flaw: She has anger issues. She takes too much upon herself. She's a bit of a nerd.

Appearance flaw: She's short. She has freckles. She's not blonde haired and blue eyed.

See how hard that was? Not hard at all. And she's interesting, with her volunteer work and such.

If you need a character but are finding it hard, PM me. I can do one for anything you want. Give me some details you want included, and I'll cook up an interesting character with some flaws that'll make them seem realistic. If you give me a description of what you want included, I can make a character that MAKES SENSE! Because so many books don't have that, and it's INFURIATING!

If you guys really want me to, I can even make a later section with lists of personality and appearance flaws that you can use to create your own characters.

I'll say it one last time ... THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A PERFECT PERSON!

End of rant.
