My Top Ten Tips For Wattpad Books
When someone asked for tips, this is what I gave them. I don't know how helpful they will be, but these are my top ten tips for writing on Wattpad:
1) Always go over your work before you post. It gets really annoying when someone posts something that's full of spelling mistakes and grammar mistakes.
2) Don't be afraid to look things up or ask for help. That's what friends and/or the internet are for. To help you. It's also what I am for, and why I am writing this.
3) If you make the chapter one big paragraph, people might just think, "too much reading." You can write the same stuff in multiple paragraphs to make it look like less, even if it's the same amount. It appeals to people more, I find.
4) Plan things out. This is important. There are so many Fanfics with massive plot holes that leave you trying to figure it all out. Use a word document or post-it notes. My desk is filled with them. Writing notes makes life a hell of a lot easier. You can look back on what you've done.
5) Use all the senses. In many books, people explain what is seen and that's it. You have four other senses, so use them! Explain what the character smells, tastes, feels and hears. More on this later.
6) Show not tell. This might be something that's hard to grasp. But don't just tell the reader what's happening, you have to make them FEEL it. More on this later.
7) Don't be afraid to use a dictionary or thesaurus. I always have one open and use it ALL the time. Its super helpful.
8) Be original with your ideas. Spend a little time thinking over you story and what you can do to make it stand out. There are thousands upon thousands of Fanfictions/Books. What makes yours so special? Find something.
9) Be creative. The cover and summary contribute a heap to what viewers think of the story. If you summary is pretty boring, people won't want to read it. Choose an angle - funny, mysterious, intriguing - and write the summary from that angle to make readers more interested. Don't give away too much, just enough to keep the mystery.
10) Try to update fairly regularly. People start to lose interest if you leave your book for several weeks or even months. Try to keep a vague pattern. It doesn't have to be "I will update at midday on Sunday ever week!" It could be just, "I'll try to update once a week, maybe twice a week, or maybe once a fortnight." Just try to update often enough.
So, I hope this helped you. These are just little things that I find useful; my top ten tips. If you have any questions about these tips, please comment or PM me. I'm open to suggestions and inquires.
