Ch 40:Planning and Explanations
Gladion's POV
"You have Type:Null meaning that your mother isn't searching for you specifically but for him." Jonathan concluded.
"I came to that same conclusion but why would she want him back? The project was quote on quote, "A failure to the foundation," why would she want that?" I asked. He seemed to be thinking over something, muttering some stuff in Kantonese, no, it wasn't Kantonese. The accent and the wording was very similar but not quite. He didn't say much more for me to figure out the language because he then looked up to me.
"Maybe so, but Type:Null still was made to be a weapon against the Ultra Beasts. If your-if Lusamine were to succeed in opening up the portals, the only thing that would stay in the way of them doing whatever she wanted would be a rouge Type:Null." He said. I took a few seconds to process the wording.
"For that reason she needs them under their control, no make sure there is no outside obstacles." I realized. He hummed.
"Have any of your, 'friends', had any encounters with Aether Paradise?" He asked. For a moment I sat there confused, not really pinpointing who he was referring to but then realized my 'friends' he was referring to were Sun, Luna, Hau, and my sister. A few seconds passed before I replied because I asked myself when did he see them, coming to the conclusion that in reality he had probably seen them with me at some occasion when he was looking after me.
"They aren't my friends, but no. I don't think they have. My sister knows the secrets that Aether holds and she wouldn't plan getting anywhere near Aether. The rest, I don't hang out with them often so I am not sure, but they would have mentioned it at least once since Aether is such a great and kind foundation for Pokémon care." I said, sarcastically doing so at the mention of Aether'd good deeds.
"If they get into this mess then going through with the plan will be harder than we anticipated. Not only will we be placing the operation at risk but their lives as well. Knowing the condition of Lusamine, she would do anything, and I mean anything for things to go her way." He said.
"That is what I am most afraid of. I have seen it happen once. I won't let it happen again." I said while clenching my fists, looking down to the floor. 'You are lying!!!!! You wouldn't do such thing!!!! You wouldn't have been capable of killing her!!!!' 'Shut up you little wretch!!! That girl was a freak and she had death looming over her for many years!!!!'
"I know." He said, snapping me back from my memories. "Which is why they can't get involved in this, so if you can avoid them any interaction with Aether, then do so." He added.
"I will try." I said. Not a moment later did the door open. I turned to see Jonathan's sister and their Zoroark. She was eating a malasada when she noticed me.
"Ohh, Hey Gladion, glad to see you visiting." She said as she gulped down the malasada.
"Uhh, hi." I said. She then glared at Jonathan.
"You could have warned me." She said as she shut the door.
"Ohh Sorry, I didn't know you were the oldest and the one in charge." Jonathan said. 'Well, this is how a sibling fight starts.' I thought.
"I could have bought a malasada for him or something." She said. Zoroark rolled her eyes and went up to me, looking at Jonathan and Lina while they started to argue in Kantonese, well the other language that seemed similar to Kantonese. I gave a glance to Zoroark.
"Do they always argue?" I asked. She nodded. "That will be fun." I brought my hand up to my mouth and whistled. They turned to me.
"So are you guys done?" I asked. Lina muttered something else and indicated Zoroark to follow her to, I am guessing, her room. Once the door closed behind her, Jonathan sighed and looked at me.
"Lina can get...hectic at times." He said.
"I can see that." I said as I noticed a slight change in her attitude. When I met her in the district, she seemed slightly more cheerful but now she seemed a bit, annoyed. The reason behind her sudden change might be because she was in fact annoyed but there was also the sudden change she had back in the district, no one noticed, but I did. She radiated some solemn, but it seemed to shift too much, it was too unstable. She might have seemed natural, but I was sure this was not how she acted naturally. Something must have happened to her that activated this unstable mood swings. "She seems less cheerful than what I remember." I added.
"Me and her haven't really had a great experience with life." He muttered. I raised an eyebrow.
"I don't think it is as bad as mine." I said. He looked over to a candle. The fire reflecting on his purple eyes, letting the history unfold through them as if the fire opened a door into his memories.
"I know your past and I will say that we both, the three of us have suffered a great deal of loss." He said.
"Who have you lost?" I asked before I could stop myself or think though of what I was going to ask. He stayed silent, starting at the fire. For a moment I thought he wasn't going to answer but then he drew a breath in.
"Seven years ago, I was twelve, A-Lina was eight. We lived in the country side, in a medium sized house. No one disturbed us and we didn't disturb anyone. None of us would have guessed what would happen. Ten days before the start of March, there was a fire. I didn't realize the fire until it was too late.
After noticing that it was futile to attempt putting out the fire, I made it my top priority to get my-my sister out. While trying to do so though we found...we found our parents. They had died but not of the fire but by someone shooting them with black arrows. The arrows had pierced their hearts and killed them almost immediately.
Devastated by the death of our parents, Lina had nothing else to do but to yell out her pain. I needed to keep my own pain at bay, knowing that I needed to be there for her and not for me at the moment.
The house was coming down on us. I had to pull Lina up. Zoroark was within a Pokéball, held by our mother, so I took it from her limb hand and went out, pulling Lina against her will. That day we both made a decision that would follow us for the rest of our lives.
We managed to get out but we had nothing. Everything that we ever cherished, all our belongings, our memories went away with that fire. Me, Lina, and Zoroark had to survive on our own, we had to learn to live without anyone but us three only. The hardships of that made us want to die, at least me and Lina both. We were living hell and there was nothing we could do about it to change it to heaven.
Eventually the suffering started to become a norm to both of us. The mood swings of Lina happen because of that. She still can't control her emotions, her emotions control her. I in the other hand was forced to grow up and have the responsibility of taking care of both me and Lina. Zoroark tried to make the weight over my shoulder lighten but when you have nothing, you can't really give anything.
For four years we stayed within our home region but we later decided to come here. We had a promise to keep and we intended to keep it. Here we established this house and made a life here. We stayed within the district, within Ula'Ula. It wasn't until two years ago did we finally realize that you and your sister escaped Aether.
We started to search for you guys but with no luck. After all you aren't really considered a Team Skull member so the grunts wouldn't really talk much about you apart from saying you were the enforcer and you thought yourself bigger than all of them, which I didn't find as evidence that it was you. Lillie was hiding herself in Mele Mele, meaning that we wouldn't have know about her unless the rumor wasn't leaked in here about her disappearance.
After the district incident we finally found one of you. After that it was easy to find Lillie." I stayed silent.
Every word he had said and every emotion he had shown through his eyes, made me realize I wasn't the only one who had problems in my life that could change the course of it. For a very long time, maybe it was partly because of my closure to the world, I thought I was the only one suffering but here is Jonathan and his sister who had to deal with seeing their parents die, killed by an arrow piercing their hearts. If I had seen her body...I don't even know about wether or not I would be here, fighting to halt the plans of Lusamine. I lost likely would have killed myself right then and there.
"I guess we three have a lot more in common than what we thought we did." I said. He smirked, not snapping his eyes from the fire.
"My parents used to say, 'We do have a lot in common, the same Earth, the same air, the same sky. Maybe if we started looking at what's the same instead of always looking at what's different... well, who knows?'" He said. Before I could say anything Lina came out.
"If you boys are done talking about, whatever you were talking about, I have something to inform you. It might interest you as well Gladion." She said as she sat down. Jonathan gave her a questioning look.
"Which are?" He asked.
"I just came from Poni Island. Hapu was there and told me about seeing Diana there about four hours ago or so." She said. I raised an eyebrow. 'Why would Diana go to Poni?' I wondered.
"So? Diana is always running off to Arceus knows where." He said, not really carrying about the information given.
"Well about 45 minutes ago there was a jet with the International Police logo." She added. Jonathan looked at her.
"The Internacional Police? Shouldn't they be over at Johto, trying to keep Team Rocket under control?" He said. There was something within that statement that made him seem angry at them for leaving Johto at such a state but I didn't ask why.
"Some new Dexholders got that covered with the help of three other people." She stated.
"I didn't know Johto had Dexholders now. About time, Kanto and Hoenn already have some, it was only a matter of time before Johto got some since they are so close together." He said.
"Yeah, well that is not important right now. After I saw the helicopter, I heard some frustrated foreigner say that they have been robbed. He had the International Police logo on his shirt. You know where I am getting at, right?" She said.
"Diana stole something from the International Police?!" I exclaimed. She smiled at me.
"You are her brother alright." She murmured. I tilted my head slightly. She soon turned that smile into a frown.
"Whoever is the second person Diana is taking orders from, must be one with resources that would know the International Police was here because no one knew. Actually, I just figured out today and it seemed that they have been here for a while." She said.
"But to the extent to steal from the International Police, that is not just risky, it is suicide. You are technically making a deal with the devil." I said.
"Is either A:Diana is crazy or B:Diana's employer is the crazy one." Linaloe said.
"Did you hear what Diana stole? Maybe that will give us a clue of who she is working for." Jonathan asked. Linaloe shook her head.
"A Kalosian took a hold of that foreigner and started scolding him. There wasn't an opportunity to over hear anymore information than that." She replied.
"A Kalosian? You really don't see them coming here in Alola often. He might also be part of the International Police." Jonathan concluded.
"Maybe, I can figure out who is this secret employer." I suggested. Jonathan seemed hesitant and Lina didn't seem to be at all comfortable with that idea.
"This secret employer seems too dangerous." He murmured. I sweat dropped.
"I dealt with a crazy lunatic at the age of three, I think that I can handle a second one." I said bluntly.
"Maybe so, but this employer of Diana isn't like one I have seen before. This person is wiling to do anything for things to come out their way, just look at what this person makes Diana go through." He said.
"I'll be careful. Plus, it is also my responsibility, to some extent, to protect Diana. If this employer is sending her to death missions, then surely Guzma would make me stop them so his niece can live. Either way, I will have to get into this, wether I like it or not." I said. They looked at each other. Lina shrugged making Jonathan sigh.
"Very well then. In the next mission she has, follow her but be very careful. I don't want you to get hurt, much less get killed in the process." He said.
"I don't intend to die now. I have come a long way, and I'm not going to stop now." I said.
"What about your plan with Lusamine and Aether Paradise?" Lina asked. We looked at her, our eyes asking the question instead of our mouths.
"So you were discussing a plan before I got here?" She asked with a smirk. 'Did she just got the answer to her question out of us?' I asked myself, surprised she tricked us into 'telling' her we did indeed discuss a plan.
"I'm not sure." Jonathan said honestly.
"In about a month." I answered for him. They seemed taken back.
"It should be enough time to get what we need and it will be soon enough to place it into action without making time pass too much. After all, we need to take down Aether as soon and as efficiently as possible." I explained.
"That should be enough time." Lina said as she gave a small glance to Jonathan. He sighed.
"Alright. A month from now we will place our plan into action and place a stop to Aether Foundation's plans in bringing the Ultra Beasts to this world." He said. We all nodded.
Sun's POV
"I will see you later Lillie, I still need to get some stuff ready for my Grand Trial." I said as I helped Lillie down from Charizard.
"When are you taking your Grand Trail?" She asked.
"Not sure. But for sure it will be during this month. I am very confident that I will pass." I said with determination. She smiled.
"I am sure you will. You are the strongest trainer I know." She said. I blushed. 'She thinks that highly of me?' I asked myself. I chuckled nervously.
"I am not the strongest. Luna is." I said.
"Maybe so but I think you are." She said shyly. I was about to reply when I noticed Luna. My eyes widen.
"Luna!" I called. She stopped on her tracks and turned to me, confused and a bit dazed. Me and Lillie gave a glance to each other before we ran over to her, Charizard staying where he was to rest before he flew off.
"Where have you been? Do you know how worried sick I was?" I asked in a scolding manner. She raised an eyebrow in confusion.
"Worried? What for? You know very well I can protect myself, as well as I am always everywhere in Alola." She replied. I gave her a small glare, which I am pretty sure she wasn't expecting since a flash of shock went through her own silver grey eyes.
"You could have at least answered your phone." Lillie said, now next to me.
"My battery died." She defended.
"You should carry with you a portable cha-" I stopped when I noticed how bruised she was and the cut she had on her cheek. "Luna how did you get hurt?!" I demanded. She flinched but soon regained her posture.
"I had a small accident while at work with my uncle." She replied. The quivering in her voice made me think otherwise.
"Don't lie to me. I know very well it wasn't an accident. Luna what the hell where you doing to get hurt this bad?!" I demanded.
"You don't have to know everything about my personal life, Sun." She hissed.
"Don't give me that excuse now, you know very well how I feel about you, so yes, I do care and I have some right!" I snapped.
"Guys, guys, please calm down." Lillie pleaded as she placed a hand on both our shoulders. The tension I was feeling was reduced but not enough for me to let it go just yet.
"That cut, was done by a sharp object. Don't tell me it wasn't because how else will you get a cut? Not only that but I have seen cuts before. I had to deal with seeing them on my cousin when he fought versus that Arrow from Team Rocket. So how did you cut yourself? Or better yet, who cut you?" I asked. She glared at me.
"Guys you are making a scene." Lillie warned.
"No one cut me, nor did I. A piece of wood I was cutting flew off and managed to make a cut on my cheek." Luna explained.
"As far as I know wood doesn't make a cut." I said.
"Guys!" Lillie yelled. I wouldn't have turned to her if I didn't feel a sudden energy of anger. I gulped and turned to Lillie. She was glaring at both of us, a pink hue seemed to surround her. "Stop it right now. Come on!" She snapped as she pulled both of us.
"Hey! Blondie let go!" Luna snapped.
"We will talk about this inside not out here where whole Alola can here you. Now inside!" Lillie snapped. Something in her tone of voice obligated me to follow or I would face the harsh consequences if I didn't. We didn't protest after that and followed her inside the lab of Professor Kukui.
'I have a feeling that this side of Lillie is not one I should mess with or anyone for that matter.' I said as I gave a glance to the blonde female. I gulped and closed the door behind me.
